The Ani-Ndokwa Clans Association (ANCA) has conferred Rear Admiral Mike Ojinika Onah (rtd.) as Patron of the association during its maiden visit to his residence in Utagba-Uno, Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State.
Led by its President-General, Prince Igwe Nzekwe, the association said the honour was in recognition of Admiral Onah’s integrity, leadership qualities, and longstanding contributions to the progress of the Ndokwa nation.
ANCA, which comprises 37 clans across Ndokwa and Ukwuani local government areas, was established to foster unity, mutual understanding, and the preservation of cultural heritage among its member clans.
Nzekwe said Admiral Onah’s distinguished track record made him an exemplary choice for the role of Patron.
He expressed optimism that the association would partner closely with him to advance development initiatives across the Ndokwa nation.
In his acceptance speech, Rear Admiral Onah urged all Presidents-General of Ndokwa clans to take proactive steps toward securing a prosperous future for the area.

The Nigerian Army High Command has debunked a report by some online platforms of the abduction of a Brigade Commander during a terrorists’ ambush along Damboa road in Borno State.
The Army’s High Command, in a statement through the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lt.-Col. Apollonia Anele, on Saturday, described the report as “fake news” and urged the public to disregard it in its entirety.
Giving an explanation about the incident that happened Friday night, the statement said troops of 25 Task Force Brigade, on routine patrol to secure communities around Wajiroko in Azi Multe, Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State, came under sudden and heavy insurgent fire while returning from a successful patrol within the fringes of Sambisa Forest.
According to the statement, the patrol team was led by the Commander 25 Brigade Brigadier General M Uba, and comprised troops of 25 Task Force Brigade and members of Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).
It said the troops courageously fought through the insurgents ambush with superior fire power, forcing them to withdraw in disarray and to abandon their mission.
“During the encounter two brave soldiers and two heroic CJTF members paid the supreme price while on active service to the nation,” the statement said.
While commending the troops for their gallantry, the Army high command commiserates with families and associates of the deceased gallants for their heroic sacrifice to the nation.
“The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, salutes the uncommon bravery, resilience and sacrifice of the gallant troops who have continued to operate in one of the most dangerous theatres of conflict on behalf of our dear nation.
“Their unflinching commitment, even in the face of grave danger, remains a powerful reminder of the daily sacrifices being made by our gallant service men and women to keep Nigeria safe,” the statement added.

The Founder and CEO of GetBundi Education Technology, Osita Oparaugo, has said that Africa is well positioned to maximise the benefits of the ongoing digital revolution but must first reimagine how learning is done in the continent.
He stressed the need for Africa to embrace STEM education and digital skill learning, mobile-first learning, partnerships and policy support, and youth innovation hubs, calling for focus on teachers and ecosystems rather than just learners.
Oparaugo stated this during a panel session at the just-concluded Digital Nigeria International Conference and Exhibition held on 11th-13th November 2025 at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja.
The three-day conference, organized by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), came under the theme “Innovation for a Sustainable Digital Future: Accelerating Growth, Inclusion, and Global Competitiveness”.
It brought together policymakers, technology leaders, and private-sector players to harmonise regulatory frameworks, promote public–private partnerships, and drive the effective implementation of Nigeria’s national digital strategies for sustainable growth.
Speaking during the panel session on “Education and the Future of e-Learning”, Oparaugo said learning in Africa must move away from rote memorization to practical and critical-thinking, problem-solving-based learning.
“If Africa dares reimagine how we learn, we can rewrite how we live, work and lead tomorrow. This must start with embracing STEM and digital skills education.
“Reimagining learning in Africa means grounding education in local culture, language, and experience. When students learn through stories that reflect their lives, they connect deeply with knowledge, and confidence grows,” he said.
Urging Africa to leverage its demographic advantage, Oparaugo said, “By 2050, one out of every three young people will be African. That means the world’s future innovators, thinkers, and leaders are sitting in African classrooms today.”
He highlighted how community-based innovation hubs are emerging as accelerators for hands-on learning – blending coding, design thinking, and entrepreneurship – and serving as the practical bridge between education and employability.
On the need for Africa to tap into mobile-first learning ecosystems, Oparaugo said with over 500 million smartphone users expected in Africa by 2030, the continent is already mobile-first.
“Leveraging low-data apps, offline-compatible platforms, and WhatsApp-based micro-learning can dramatically expand access, especially in rural areas. This is where scalable, inclusive impact will happen fastest.
“At GetBundi, digital learning is reaching millions of young Africans through mobile phones in their own languages. It’s a simple but powerful shift: turning the continent’s most common tool into its most important classroom,” he said.
He cited Kenya’s Digital Master Plan and Nigeria’s 3MTT initiative to show how governments and private tech firms are increasingly aligning around national digital strategies.
Quoting a recent piece that pointed out how teachers in multiple African countries lack digital skills themselves and need training and support, Oparaugo stated that by connecting broadband expansion with teacher training and curriculum reform, countries can create self-sustaining ecosystems for digital literacy.
“It’s not enough to roll out courses; the entire ecosystem (teachers, curricula, infrastructure) needs strengthening,” he said. “If we scale teacher professional development, embed digital-skills into curricula, and ensure infrastructure (electricity, connectivity) is in place, then scale becomes more sustainable.”
The GetBundi CEO ended his presentation with a call to believe, saying Africa’s moment has arrived and the continent must believe in its power to shape the digital age.
“Let’s invest not only in technology but in imagination. Not only in devices, but in dreams. Because what will truly transform Africa is not the tools in our hands, but the vision in our hearts,” Oparaugo said.
“The next great innovators, teachers, and problem-solvers are already here, in our classrooms, our homes, our communities. They are waiting for us to believe in them,” he said.
Director General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa, called on youths to take the lead in driving Africa’s digital transformation, stressing that the country’s young population holds the key to a prosperous and inclusive future.
The 2025 conference was attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, who declared the event open, MD/CEO of UBEC, Dr Aisha Garba, who delivered the keynote on the topic “Education and the Future of e-Learning”, among other dignitaries. It attracted over 4,800 participants from 12 countries and 25 Nigerian states. It featured 12 keynote sessions, 23 panel discussions, five workshops, and two expert masterclasses across five thematic tracks: digital connectivity, digital public infrastructure and trust, artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, digital trade and innovation, and digital skills and literacy.
The main bowl of the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan, venue of the National Convention of the leading opposition, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is already agog with activities.
Although the scheduled elective national convention was yet to commence officially as of the time of this report, The Nation reports that party loyalists in their hundreds are storming the venue.
While many of the delegates were spotted in official customised Ankara Aso ebi for the event, non delegates in the various clusters were also seen in other customised outfits.
As the delegates take the already designated seats, the mass loyalists and supporters of various candidates for the convention and ahead of the 2016 general election are marching round the arena with huge banners, posters, flags and other campaign paraphernalia.
Despite the loud music oozing from the main speaker at the venue, various drummers, flutists, trumpets accompanying the different support groups are also not piping low as they also match from one part of the field to another.
Flags of various types, shapes and sizes are also flying around at the venue.
When The Nation moved round the stadium, it was observed that some delegates were already seated in their designated seats while some seats with the banner of the would-be occupants are still empty.
Some of the designated seats already occupied by the delegates include: Ogun. Oyo, Ondo, Niger, Zamfara, Borno and Bayelsa
However, seats observed to be empty as at the time of this report include: Rivers, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe, Kebbi, Katsina, Kano and Kaduna.
Others still empty include: Jigawa, Imo, Gombe, Federal Capital City (FCT), Enugu, Ekiti, Benue, Bauch, Anambra and Abia.
The reserved Very Important Persons (VIP) designated box was also still empty as at the time of this report.
The Nation observed that the voting areas as well as designated voting units demarcated on the field are been manned by security operatives.
Sources hinted that some top party leaders and functionaries have already arrived the state but still at the various hotels.
Another sources said then party leaders may adopt the option of consensus candidates for the various posts to accommodate all interests in the wake of contradicting course judgements training the conduct of the convention.
The convention also provides a good business opportunity for traders with those selling the party accessories including customised logo, cap, t-shirts, flags, fez caps, hat, hand fans among other souvenirs are making quick gains.
Effort to confirm the number of Governors and other top party leaders already in the state proved abortive as of the time of this report.
Heavy scrutiny personnel from the Police and other sister agencies are at the venue in their large number.
Enugu Governor Peter Mbah has inaugurated a committee to carry out a comprehensive review of tax policies, rates, levies, and fees under the control of the state.
According to the government, the committee, which has two weeks to carry out its assignment, would benchmark Enugu State’s revenue practices against Lagos, Abuja, and other South East states as they relate to Land Use Charge, Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O) fees, market levies and stall rents, business premises registration, signage and advertisement fees, among others, and recommend reforms to improve compliance, fairness, transparency, and revenue efficiency.
The nine-man committee, which has the Solicitor-General of Enugu, Ikechukwu Ezenwukwa, as Chairman, and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Revenue Mobilisation, Adenike Okebu, has members drawn from interest groups, government, organised labour, and the civil society.
They are the Chairman, Trade Union Congress, Enugu chapter, Comrade Ben Asogwa; Chairman of State Market Association, Chief Chinwuba Igwesi; Head of Legal, Enugu State Inland Revenue Service, Ngozi Ezema; Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Markets, Chief Chinedu Mbah; 1st Deputy President, Enugu Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, ECCIMA, Engr. Nnanyelugo Onyemelukwe; Deputy Council Chairman and representative of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON, Enugu State, Hon. Paul Okwo; and representative of the civil society, Barr. Crownwell Chibuzo.
Inaugurating the committee at Government House, Enugu, on Friday, Governor Mbah, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, said that the committee was initiated in response to various public complaints relating to taxes and state-controlled revenue heads.
He added the committee’s terms of reference include to: “review existing harmonisation/consolidation laws and other revenue-related laws in Enugu State; review the implementation of such laws and their impact; identify and evaluate all revenue heads under the control of Enugu State (excluding federally administered taxes like VAT and Stamp Duties); identify all areas of duplication and multiple taxation across the state, including the local government; examine the impact of the expansion of the tax bracket and issues of a culture of non-tax payment; and assess the fairness, transparency, and efficiency of current tax rates and collection processes in Enugu.”
He directed the committee to ensure proper stakeholder engagement by conducting surveys and interviews with property owners, market traders, local government revenue officers, local government chairmen, civil society organisations, and business owners, among others.
Providing more insights into the state’s revenue mobilisation reforms, the governor said his administration, upon assumption of office, took determined steps to move revenue collection from “a fragmented silos model to a unified, data-driven, and performance-oriented revenue ecosystem.”
“One of the most decisive reforms we undertook was the complete stoppage of cash collection across all MDAs. This was not merely a procedural change. It was a philosophical shift toward transparency and traceability.
“Today in Enugu State, all payments are now routed through digital platforms, ensuring real-time monitoring and eliminating leakages. This move has drastically reduced opportunities for fraud and enhanced public confidence in our systems.
“To drive accountability, we introduced a Performance Appraisal Framework for all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, as each Ministry, Department and Agency, MDA, is now assigned clear revenue targets linked to their operational mandates,” he stated.
Mbah also explained that the government had built the faith of the people by ensuring that every revenue collected was deployed to their service.
“Revenue is not just a fiscal tool. It is a moral obligation. Every naira we collect must translate into better schools, safer roads, cleaner water, and a brighter future because our vision for Enugu State is bold and transformative, rooted in the unwavering principles of transparency, traceability, and accountability,” he concluded.
Ezenwukwa said that the setting up of the committee further underscored the governor’s place as a listening leader, who cared about the concerns of the people.
He thanked Mbah for finding them worthy of undertaking the onerous task, assuring that members would justify the confidence reposed in them.
Former Kaduna Governor Malam Nasir El Rufai at the weekend said the time has come for the Northern region to embrace digital technology and promote its inclusion in all endeavours.
El Rufai made the call at Ceedi Plaza Cinema, Abuja during the presentation of the Fasahar Zamani Digital Technology Movie Premiere produced by Blue Sapphire Hub, and funded by the United Kingdom Development International
The movie is a series of 12 episodes produced in Hausa, but subtitled in English to bridge the digital gap in northern Nigeria.
The event was attended a cross section of dignitaries in the North.
El-Rufai, a former Minister of the FCT under President Olusegun Obasanjo, expressed concerns over slow pace of adoption of digital technologies in the north, regretting that the region is backward when it comes to the use and deployment of digital technology.
He said northern Governors should consider it a duty to invest in digital technology, train digital entrepreneurs and support them with seed funding to ensure sustainability of their businesses.
El Rufai said: “Northern Nigeria is yet to come to terms with the reality of the tech age, and we need to have a soft way of introducing this and making it attractive and exciting for our young people.
“This production of 12 episodes of this messaging will go a long way in attracting the attention of our young people, as well as their parents, to the importance of adopting technology, digital technology in particular, as we move into the age of AI.
“The way forward now is for the state governments in northern Nigeria to take this messaging to the next level. On our own part, I have been partnering with state governments to host Arewa TechFest.
“And I will call on all the northern states governors to use this opportunity to take it a step further by identifying digital and tech entrepreneurs in their states and supporting them with seed money so that they can develop their ideas, create jobs, and put Nigeria on the technology map.”
El-Rufai also said digital technology can be used for Nigeria future elections, saying that he deployed it in Kaduna for local government elections. He said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) could leverage digital technology for the 2027 elections.
Speaking at the film presentation, the Country Lead and Programme Advisor for the U.K. Government’s Global Digital Access Programme, Idongesit Udoh, noted that the project was among others being supported by his organisation to bridge digital gap. Ensuring safe access is also part of this effort, and encouraging the use of a secure PC VPN can help people confidently participate in digital services.
“This is a piece of project that the U.K. government has supported to bring on board people who are excluded from the growing digital economy in Nigeria.
“As you may know, Nigeria’s digital economy is blossoming. It’s the fastest growing sector of the country’s economy and contributes hugely to the GDP.
“But also there is the fact that there are people who are not included in this sector. So the advanced digital adoption in Nigeria was a piece of project specifically designed to bring on board women, people with disabilities, and people from communities that are completely unserved or underserved, “Udoh said.
