    Ondo Gov Akeredolu begins 21-day medical leave

    Ondo Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has begun a 21-day leave for medical treatment abroad starting from 7th of June,2023  to 6th July,2023.

    Speaker Olamide Oladiji disclosed this while reading a letter of medical leave from Governor Akeredolu.

    The leave commenced on June 7 and extends to July 6th, 2023 due to public holidays of June 12(Democracy Day) and Eid el Kabir(28th and 29th,June,2023) celebrations.

    Speaker Oladiji said the directed his Deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa to act as Governor while he was.

    He said the Governor assured of his resumption on July 7, 2023.

    The Speaker described the Governor as a lover of peace and an apostle of rule of law.

    Joeboy donates three buses for free Lagos ride

    Singer Joseph Akinwale aka Joeboy has rolled out three danfo buses to offer Lagosians free transportation to and fro specific axis around the metropolitan city.

    The contemporary R&B singer, who recently released his second album, ‘Body & Soul’, informed the move was his way of easing the pain of fare hike following the removal of fuel subsidy.

    On his social media handles, the 26-year-old singer shared posters displaying the routes which the buses are expected to ply from 8am to 6pm for the next three days.

    He also shared a video of the buses with the drivers noting the initiative was all set for people to partake in and enjoy, sending love to everyone.

    “I know the fuel subsidy p is hard on everyone right now so here’s my little way of helpin.

    “For the next 3 days, there will be FREE Body & Soul buses along the following routes between 8am and 5pm. Enjoy the ride, Love you guys,” he wrote.

  • Ayambem reelected Cross River Speaker

    Ayambem reelected Cross River Speaker

    Cross River Assembly on Tuesday elected Mr. Elvert Ayambem of the All Progressive Congress(APC) and the member representing Ikom-2 State constituency as Speaker of the 10th Assembly.

    He was returned unopposed by the 25- members Assembly with 20 legislators from the ruling APC; four from the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) and one member of the Labour Party.

    The election of the Deputy Speaker was also seamless as Mr. Sylvester Agabi also of the APC, representing Obudu State Constituency was returned unopposed.

    Governor Bassey Otu, in his good will message to the Assembly delivered by his Deputy Mr. Peter Odey, prayed for maximum cooperation of the legislature with the executive for quick delivery of the expected democratic dividends to the people.

    Responding, Speaker Ayambem thanked God, his fellow legislators and his political party (APC) for the confidence reposed on him to lead the 10th Assembly.

    He pledged that his Leadership will put the people first in alignment with the agenda of the State Governor.

    He urged his colleagues to put Cross River State interest first in the discharge of their assignment to make the state functional and reposition it to her era of glory.

    Niger lawmakers have elected a former Commissioner of Local government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Barrister Abdulmalik Sarkindaji as Speaker of the 10th Assembly.

    The member representing Gurara Constituency, Mrs Afiniki Dauda, emerged the first female Deputy Speaker.

    Sarkindaji emerged as a consensus candidate when there was no counter-nomination.

    He was nominated by member representing Bida 2, Hon Mohammed Haruna while member representing Borgu Constituency, Engineer Abdulrahman Gambo seconded it. 

    The Deputy Speaker was nominated by the member representing Paikoro Constituency, Pharmacist Umar Nasir (APC-Paiko) and seconded by the member representing Rijau Constituency, Bello Bako.

    Akpabio judicious choice for Senate President – Umana

    The immediate past Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Umana Okon Umana, has congratulated Senator Godswill Akapbio on his election as President of the 10th Senate. 

     Umana, who served as Secretary to the Government of Akwa Ibom State when Akpabio was Governor, described his election as Senate President as a judicious choice.

    Umana said Akpabio’s election was an expression of the appreciation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the contributions of the South-South to the fortunes of the party in various ways, particularly during the last election cycle.

    He also described Akpabio’s election as a national acknowledgment of the significant contributions of the South-South to the economic and political development of the country, pointing out that Akpabio as Senate President represents a big boost to the Akwa Ibom brand in the comity of states of the Federation.

    Umana advised Senator Akpabio to do Akwa Ibom State and its people proud again by using his exalted office to promote good governance that is noted for politics of inclusion, fairness and equity for all. 

    Umana also called upon the new Senate President to give the President and Commander-in-Chief, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, all the support needed to turn the economic fortunes of the country around.

    Umana further congratulated all the lawmakers of the 10th National Assembly for a rancour-free leadership recruitment exercise during the just-concluded parliamentary election cycle.

    Afrobeat singer Davido has broken silence on the death of his son Ifeanyi Adeleke.

    In a podcast interview, Davido discussed how, despite the incident, he was still able to release the “Timeless” album.

    He said many fans anticipated sorrowful songs on his album but he delivered “bangers” instead.

    Davido noted that  even though he overcame the difficult time following his son’s passing, he still sheds tears over it every morning.

    “I look at myself in the mirror and I said apart from it just being about me, I know how many people love me, I know how many people are depending on me.

    “A lot of people thought the album was just going to be a lot of sad songs, we gave them bangers on bangers.

    “My son is dancing and my mom is dancing in heaven. So for people to see that it’s possible to stand up again and be able to work, it’s only God.

    “Those were one of the things that and my wife relied on, God is real. Then everything just aligned back, we performed better, business is better.”

    Guinness World Record announces Hilda Baci new record holder

    Guinness World Records on Tuesday announced Hilda Baci the new record holder for the longest cooking by an individual.

    The GWR, in a statement on its website, said: “Following a thorough review of all the evidence, Guinness World Records can now confirm that Hilda Effiong Bassey, better known as Hilda Baci, has officially broken the record for the longest cooking marathon (individual), with a time of 93 hours 11 minutes.”

    The Nation reports Hilda Baci last month cooked for 100 hours non-stop, breaking India’s Lata Tondon’s 87 hours 45 minutes record of uninterrupted cooking in the process.

    Guinness World Record tweeted:

    “After reviewing all the footage, we’re delighted to announce that Hilda Baci is the new record holder for the longest cooking marathon(individual).”
