Hilda Baci: Speed up confirmation, Moses Bliss urges Guinness records

Gospel artiste Moses Bliss has urged the Guinness World Records to speed up the confirmation of Nigerian chef, Hilda Bassey aka Hilda Baci for longest cooking marathon in the world by an individual.

Moses Bliss, who is the ‘Miracle No Dey Tire Juses’ crooner, said the world is waiting for the pronouncement of Guinness Book of Record to officially seal Baci’s laudable efforts.

He said the unprecedented feat recorded by the 27-year-old restaurateur speaks to the uncanny determination, exceptional diligence and the indomitable spirit of the Nigerian youth.

“Hilda Baci’s mind-blowing attempt is testament to the unwavering resolve of the Nigerian youth to aim for the stars. Baci has carved a name for herself as a pacesetter and a worthy ambassador of Nigerian youth in the comity of nations, pushing the flag of the country positively across the globe,” Moses stated.

“It is satisfactory that Guinness World Records has acknowledged Baci’s effort and said a review is ongoing to crown her with the much-coveted and deserving position but this should be fast-tracked without compromise for laid-down standards. This only is how to reward hard work.

“Again, the Nigerian youths keep proving our naysayers wrong that many good things can still come from our Nazareth. Like Tobi Amusan, Paul Kehinde, Bose Omolayo, amongst many others, Nigerian youths, the female gender especially, are putting Nigeria on the world map.”

It has sought support from the International Monetary Fund, which is expected to approve the first loan tranche of a three billion dollars package on Wednesday.

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission said the tariff hike was due to the net effect of further currency depreciation, inflation, and an increase in the cost of gas.

“Utility companies are under-covering and require an upward adjustment of their rates in order to keep the lights on,” it added, noting that the potential for outages was high.

101-year-old man petitions IGP over son’s abduction in Enugu

A 101-year-old retiree Pa Nicholas Ugwoke has petitioned the Inspector General of Police over an alleged attack in his house and abduction of his 33-year-old graduate son, Kingsley Chika Ugwoke.

Pa Ugwoke, the oldest man in Azuokpe village, Umudim, Ibagwa-Ani, Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State, alleged that some policemen invaded his house, carted away family properties, caused massive destructions in the building and properties inside, shot his son, Kingsley, took him away, and till date his whereabout is unknown to the family.

According to the centenarian, the heartbreaking thing was that till date nobody has told him or members of his family why his house was invaded and destroyed and his last son shot and taken to unknown place.

In the petition which was copied to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and Commissioner of Police, the old man alleged that “on July 11, 2022, a team of armed police officers in 7 Hillux Vans and one Sienna car stormed my house at 9.30am and opened fire on Mr. Ugwoke Kingsley Chika who was wearing only boxer as he just finished taking his morning bath”.

Part of the petition reads: “I am the eldest man in Azuokpe village, aged 101 years (as at September 2022 when petition was written) and the father of Ugwoke Kingsley Chika who is my last born and just graduated from Enugu State University of Science and Technology(ESUT), wherein he studied Microbiology and was working towards his clearance to enable him participate in the National Youth Service Corps.

“While my son Ugwoke Kingsley was awaiting call up letter for the National Youth Service, our village, Ibeagwa-Ani, set up a local vigilante to assist the Nigeria Police in maintaining law and order in our village. He was head of the vigilante.

“Unfortunately, on the 11th day of July, 2022, a team of armed police officers in seven Hills vans and one Sienna car stormed my house at 9.30am and opened fire on Mr. Ugwoke Kingsley Chika who was wearing only boxer as he just finished his morning bath.

“After shooting him between the hours of 9.30sm and 10am, the said team of police officers threw him into a Hillux van as if he was a lifeless wood. They equally arrested three other boys in and around my compound and took them to Nsukka Central police station.

“All these happened without any resistance from Ugwoke Kingsley who was repeatedly crying in a very loud voice, demanding to know what offence he has committed.

“Two hours later, the same team of police officers came back to my house and destroyed my house which I built in 1960 and was only renovated recently.

“The level of destruction in my house was heartrending and mind boggling to the extent that all the glass windows, doors, bookshelves, standing fans, among other things were all vanished.

“As if these destructions were not enough, CG motorcycle, Summec 27000 generator and bags containing my clothes and that of the household were carted away. The worst was that  the diabetic drugs being taken by my sick wife were not spared by these stern looking police officers”, Pa Ugwoke lamented.

He said since the sad incident happened in his house, his family had been going to various police stations in Enugu in search of Kingsley but “no police officer has explained to my family the allegations against my son, Ugwoke Kingsley Chika and his whereabout”.

The centenarian appealed to the IGP to order a thorough investigation into the incident and get to the root of what happened to his son.

When contacted on the petition, the spokesman of Enugu State Police Command,  DSP Daniel Ndukwe said: “I’m sure the petition would’ve been endorsed for investigation. But I’ll have to verify, please”.

I battered my little cousin over inability to recite English alphabet – Nursing mother

A 24-year old woman, Abigail Eguta has admitted battering her 7-year old cousin in Onitsha, Anambra State.

The suspect, both pregnant and nursing mother, said she inflicted injuries on the victim’s body for eating fish she bought for Sunday meal.

She added that she beat him for not correctly reciting the English alphabets (A,B,C,D…).

“Actually, it was not my intention to flog him on the eyes nor to blind him, it was by mistake that the beating extended to his eyes.

“I am very sorry. Please, forgive me, it is the handiwork of the devil,” she sobbed.

The suspect, said to be a biological sister to the victim’s mother, however claimed she was beaten by her husband, a businessman when he returned and saw what she did to the boy.

The Nation gathered that the victim, simply identified as Sunday, was brought to the office of the Commissioner for Women Affairs in the State by some good-spirited individuals who rescued him from the suspect.

The source further said it was barely a year the victim, an out-of-school child, was brought to the suspect said to hail from Ikwo in Ebonyi State, but residing in Onitsha with her family.

The visibly malnourished boy also sustained swollen eyes he could hardly see with, as well as bruises on different parts of his body.

Reacting, Commissioner for Women Affairs, Ify Obinabo, condemned the act, describing it as unjustifiable and unacceptable.

She decried increasing cases of child abuse in the state, regretting that such heartlessness was becoming rampant among young mothers.

“One wonders why many guardians will have the minds to treat someone else’s children who are in their custody as if they are animals, while they pamper their own children,” she said.

While reprimanding the suspect for what she described as ‘wickedness against another person’s child’, Obinabo reassured her Ministry’s commitment in fishing out and legally dealing with such wicked guardians in the state.

She also ordered the transfer of the case to the Anambra State Police Command for proper investigation, after which the suspect will be charged.

The victim has been taken to an undisclosed hospital in Awka for proper medical attention.
