    I bleached while growing up, Lilian Afegbai opens up

    Actress Lilian Afegbai aka Lilyafe has stated she bleached while growing up.

    In an exposé with popular media personality, Toke Makinwa on the latest episode of ‘Toke Moments’, the duo discussed many issues from dating to skin bleaching and more.

    Speaking, the chocolate skinned former Big Brother Africa housemate said the reason why many will question or doubt that she has acted in several Nollywood movies in the past is because she was fair at the time as a result of bleaching.

    During her expository chat with Makinwa, Afegbai joggled between English language and Pidgin stating she’s thankful to have gone through certain life’s phases because she learnt valuable lessons through them.

    She said: “I’m happy for all those things I did. Imagine of I’m doing it now, do you know how stupid I’ll look?

    “Imagine if I buy bag now and now put it …..I no fit. If you no know the price, e no matter. People wey know the price, know am.

    “But I think it’s a phase like you said and I’m happy that I went through that phase.

    ‘Like when I was growing up, I bleached. Yeah, I bleached.

    “They say, ‘Ehn! Nigerian is 10million people, actress is 9million. Which movie you don act? Comot for here’.

    “No be your fault, na me wey go bleach; so I come fair. The one you dey watch, I fair. So when you see me, you no go know say na me. So, you don watch 10 of my movies, I fair.

    “This one wey I black now, I never do a lot. So, I no fit match up with those ones. That’s the problem.”

    BREAKING: Buhari unveils newly re-designed naira notes

    President Muhammadu Buhari has finally unveiled the newly re-designed notes for the highest denominations of the naira.

    The President performed the brief ceremony just before the start of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

    He presented to the public the new N1000, N500 and N200 notes.

    Present at the ceremony were Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Boss Mustapha; Chief of Staff to the President, Professor Ibrahim Gambari; and the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr Folashade Yemi-Esan.

    Others were Ministers and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr Godwin Emefiele.

    The Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele said the introduction of new notes was a deliberate step by government to check corruption and counterfeiting of the notes.

    However, the naira notes currently in use will remain as legal tenders till 31st January, 2023.

    In the past week, the internet caught glimpses of photos and an awkward video which prompted a debate on social media platforms.
    First was a video of a pregnant woman named Martha whose hubby caught on their matrimonial bed with a ‘pastor’.
    The hubby, who walked into their home unannounced, caught his heavily pregnant wife who had earlier told him she was visiting her family in Kitwe in Zambia stark naked with the so-called pastor.
    They jumped off the bed immediately on hearing Martha’s hubby’s distraught voice as he couldn’t fathom what he just walked into.
    The so-called pastor hurriedly wore his boxers with the bedroom floor littered with fetish items like a ritual process was ongoing.
    “Don’t move. I will kill you. Don’t move. Don’t move, Get down!!!” the husband repeatedly shouted.
    “On my bed, Martha… On my bed, Martha. You told me you were going to Kitwe …. What’s this??!!… Don’t come near me! … What about all these in my house? What about all these in my house?” But the woman, bending down, sobbed.
    This particular video sparked heated debate across social media platforms with many expressing varying opinions.
    The second was the photograph of two football legends Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi together.
    On Saturday, the pair broke the internet by posting a picture of them playing chess as part of a paid partnership with fashion giant Louis Vuitton.
    The legendary duo in the image which has garnered over 65 million likes across their Instagram pages as of the time of this reporting, was captured playing chess on a Louis Vuitton briefcase and both wrote the caption, “Victory is a State of Mind. A long tradition of crafting trunks photographed by @annieleibovitz for @louisvuitton.”
    Considering the surreal effect of the photo
    on internet users around the globe, Guinness World Records has begun considering naming it the greatest photograph of all time.
    In a tweet via it’s official Twitter handle on Monday, the world’s authority on record-breaking achievements quizzed Twitter users on the subject matter.

    motivational speaker and social media influencer who stole the show at Qatar 2022 World Cup opening ceremony.
    The 22-year-old Al Muftah, one of the breakout stars of the night joined Hollywood veteran, Morgan Freeman in welcoming the world to Qatar at the opening ceremony on Sunday, November 20.

    Sophia Momodu apologises for ‘insensitive’ Davido’s birthday post

    Davido‘s first baby mama Sophia Momodu has tendered an apology for the singer’s birthday post she made on her daughter Imade Adeleke’s behalf.

    On Monday while sending birthday greetings to her daughter’s father, Momodu shared a photo of the Afrobeats singer with his children including his deceased son, Ifeanyi Adeleke.

    But the photo didn’t augur well with many social media users who chided her for choosing that exact one which had the singer’s late son.

    Others slammed her for even making a birthday post to the singer, especially she didn’t celebrate the late Ifeanyi on his birthday or posted to mourn his passing.

    Amid the call out and blasting by social media users for the said birthday post, the mother of one on Tuesday apologised noting she never intended to make an insensitive post.

    She said: “I realise that the earlier post may come across as insensitive and I sincerely apologise, as that was not the intention.

    “I ask for your consideration and hope that you all can be understanding during these times.”

    Terrorism: Senate okays Police Special Forces, Training School in Borno

    The Senate has passed for second reading, a bill meant to establish the Nigeria Police Special Forces and the Nigeria Police Special Forces Training School, in Gwoza, Borno State.
    The sponsor of the Bill, who is also the Chairman, Senate Committee on the Army, Senator Ali Ndume, said the proposed legislation would enable the country to effectively fight banditry and terrorism when established.
    Ndume in his lead debate, said: “The Nigeria Police Special Forces Training School in Gwoza would among others, combat the menace of terrorism, insurgency, banditry, and other heinous crimes.
    “It will train the required manpower for the Special Forces in order to enhance effective National Security through provision of professionalised training, knowledge as well as to award certificates to deserving and qualified officers on successful completion of training.”
    He said, the objectives of the bill was among others to combat the menace of terrorism, insurgency, banditry, and other heinous
    crimes as well as investigate all terrorist related crimes.
    He also said the proposed agency would collaborate with other sister security agencies within Nigeria and relevant international agencies on matters relating to terrorism.
    He added that the agency would engage in information and intelligence gathering activities.

    He insisted that the Bill will go a long way to help in training manpower that can effectively combat the menace caused by the outlawed groups.
    Senators Chukwuka Utazi and Emmanuel Orker-Jev kicked against the bill.
    They claimed that the establishment of another special force, would lead to duplication of the roles of the Nigeria Police Force.
    However, other Senators overwhelmingly supported the bill and expressed hope that it would help a great deal in tackling insurgency, banditry and kidnappings in most parts of the country.

    Sokoto People Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Mallam Saidu Umar FCNA, has appealed to residents to entrust the PDP with a renewed mandate in 2023 for sustainable development strides.

    It said this will sustain people’s centered achievements recorded under Governor Aminu Tambuwal.

    A statement by his aide, Nafiu Muhammad Lema, said he made the appeal at the palace of the District Head of Kaddi, Alhaji Abdullahi Ibrahim Kaddi.

    He said the present administration had left an indelible mark in all sectors that directly s impact on the lives of Sokoto people.

    He said the best decision the people of Sokoto can make in this electoral cycle is to vote the PDP and all its candidates. He promised to positively transform the State if elected governor.

    Commenting on the issues the local monarch raised, Umar maintained that the challenges of insecurity that had ravaged the area will be surmountable, as his administration if given the nod in 2023 elections will improve on the efforts of Gov. Tambuwal’s administration, and ultimately address it. He promised them that Godwilling, peace will be restored in the area.

    On rural development, Umar noted that the present administration had done well in that regard. He said his leadership with the anticipatated mandate of the Sokoto people, will provide more roads in the rural areas.     Chairman of the Gada Local Government, Alh Garba Yakubu Tsite, explained to the traditional council, the pertinent need to support the sustenance of the PDP administration at next year’s elections.

    He further said it’s time for them to reciprocate the numerous gesture extended to them by Gov. Tambuwal administration.

    The District Head, Ibrahim Kaddi, thanked the entourage and declared that PDP had all of Kaddi Ward people’s support.

    World Children Day: UNICEF condemns discrimination against children

    The United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) has decried discrimination against children. Discrimination against children based on ethnicity, language and religion is rife worldwide, according to a new UNICEF report published ahead of November 20, World Children’s Day.

     

    UNICEF Executive Director, Catherine Russell, in a statement signed by her Communication Officer, Blessing Ejiofor, condemned the negative impacts of discrimination against children will deepen intergenerational deprivation, poverty, nutrition and high rates of adolescent pregnancy, etc.

    Russell said: “On World Children’s Day and every day, every child has the right to be included, to be protected, and to have an equal chance to reach their full potential. All of us have the power to fight discrimination against children – in our countries, our communities, our schools, our homes, and our hearts. We need to use that power

    “Systemic racism and discrimination put children at risk of deprivation and exclusion that can last a lifetime. This hurts us all. Protecting the rights of every child – whoever they are, wherever they come from – is the surest way to build a more peaceful, prosperous, and just world for everyone.”

    The statement further stated that Nigeria has 18.3 million children who are not in school, and a high number of children attending schools but not getting a solid education that can translate into good prospects for their future. “This crisis affects children across the country, girls, children with disabilities, children from the poorest households, street children, and children affected by displacement or emergencies are affected more”.

     

    It also stated that Youth Agency Marketplace (YOMA) is a digital platform galvanising children and young people around the world, including the marginalised, to build and transform their lives by actively engaging them in innovation challenges, social impact tasks and learning to earn opportunities
