Wilson Badejo Foundation decries insecurity, holds annual lecture

The Wilson Badejo Foundation has attributed the high rate of poverty among Nigerians to the ineptitude of its leaders despite the abundant natural resources in the country.
Speaking at a parley to announce the 15th edition of the annual lecture of the Wilson Badejo Foundation scheduled for August 10 at the Nigeria Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) Victoria Island, Lagos, Chairman of the Foundation, Dr. Osaren Emokpae said looting of public funds is responsible for the insecurity afflicting Nigeria.

Emokpae who disclosed that the lecture would focus on poverty and insecurity in the country, said former President Olusegun Obasanjo would be the father of the day while the Special Assistant to the President on Media, Femi Adesina and other top dignitaries will be special guest of honour.

According to him, the lecture focuses on the twin problems of poverty and insecurity with an eminent and erudite scholar-Professor Eghosa Osaghae, the Director General of the Nigeria Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) as the guest lecturer.

Chairing the Occasion is the General Overseer of Foursquare Gospel church in Nigeria Rev Sam Aboyeji.

He said issues based on the misery index in Nigeria compared to other African countries; looting of public funds; Nigeria corruption index compared to other countries; Nigeria life expectancy compared to Egypt and South Africa, among others, were part of the challenges affecting the country.

“The reasons for Nigeria’s high misery index are obvious. Buhari’s economic policies are delivering pain for the majority. Since he assumed office in 2015, the country has witnessed two recessions. In 2020, Nigeria recorded a negative growth of -1.8 per cent. It was -1.6 per cent in 2016. For a country of about 211 million struggling with a GDP of $432.29 billion (2020), this translates to mass deprivation,’’ he stated.

On the looting of public funds, Emokpae said: “Looting of the nation’s wealth has caused gross insecurity today and everyone is feeling the negative effect of it. Ever since independence, the theme of looting, embezzlement and general corruption is not new in Nigeria’s socio-political and economic space.

“At the commencement of the Fourth Republic in 1999, the Nigerian government, announcing a zero tolerance for the looting carnival of her national treasury, set up two anti-graft bodies, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.

“Despite this, the flurry of broad-day plunder of the state’s wealth has continued unabated, especially among politicians and government officials.”

Speaking on insecurity, Emokpae said the country’s insecurity challenges were multi-dimensional, adding that they include, “Boko Haram Islamic extremism; militancy in the Niger-Delta; incessant kidnappings; Fulani Herdsmen crisis; Banditry and unknown gunmen crises in the South-east; ritual killings, and armed robbery.”

The chairman, while commenting on the poverty levels in the country, said the World Bank, in its poverty assessment report titled, ‘A Better Future for All Nigerians: 2022 Nigeria Poverty Assessment,’ stated that the number of poor Nigerians was projected to hit 95.1 million by the end of 2022.

She said: “The light was off, the music was playing, it was dark, the girl was sitting at the edge and covering her face with a facemask”.

She said: “I am done… it comes with disrespect.”

Reacting to Deyemi’s comment, the troll mocked the reality TV star for following a man who never loved her.

She said at her advanced age, Liquorose was unable to recognise when a man was not interested in her.

“Man follower Emmanuel never loved you, you are dull like Beatrice said at your age you couldn’t tell that a man is not feeling you like that you are not even 27 you are above 30 years, we have seen how you look without filters no wonder you have low self-esteem about being used and dumped by so many men,” she wrote.

Deyemi, in Liquorose’s defense, attacked the troll for insulting her.

The movie star queried the troll’s guts to post a derogatory comment on another person’s page.

He said: “Are you flipping mad? What demonic force gave you the right to make this malicious comment on another person’s page?? If you are miserable and unfulfilled kindly keep your pain and evil eyes to yourself and improve your own damn life!!!”

Kanu remains our leader, IPOB insists

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has dismissed as useless and fabricated reports alleging that it has replaced its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu with its head, Directorate of State (DOS), Mazi Chika Edoziem.

The group, in a statement by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful described the report as the handiwork of mischievous elements bent on causing confusion, urging the public to disregard it.

It insisted that Kanu remains its leader while Chika Edoziem remains Head of DOS.

The statement reads: “We condemn the useless and fabricated media propaganda and blackmail from some media houses that IPOB has another or acting leader replacing our indefatigable liberator and prophet Mazi Nnamdi KANU.

“Those peddling this kind these lies are those criminals who zoo gutter media are publishing this to confuse the weak-minded people.

“We want everybody to bear in mind that Mazi Chika Edoziem is the head of IPOB Directorate of State, DOS and not IPOB Acting Leader.

“It is unfortunate that some mischievous elements twisted an unambiguous statement by IPOB where we clarified that in the meantime that our Leader is in detention, the Head of DOS, Mazi Edoziem will be providing direction on the day-to-day activities of IPOB. We never said that Edoziem has become the Acting Leader of IPOB.

“For the avoidance of doubts, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu remains the Leader of IPOB. The entire IPOB family all over the world is loyal to him. IPOB has no Acting Leader. Chika Edoziem is only the Head of DOS of IPOB not the Leader.

Charity Nnaji alleges Beauty bought pagent crown

Actress Charity Nnaji has alleged the recently disqualified BBNaija housemate Beauty Tukura bought her pageantry crown.

She made this claim following the former Level 2 housemate’s disqualification from the reality TV show on Sunday.

Tukura, in 2019, became the 43rd Miss Nigeria after representing Taraba State at the Miss Nigeria pageant at Eko Convention Centre in Lagos.

Her disqualification has continued to elicit reactions from several quarters on social media.
Many have argued an ex-beauty queen should never display such bad conduct, especially in the public.

Beauty was disqualified for several reasons, including not following the game guidelines, micro phone infringement and throwing wigs at her fellow housemate.

She was disqualified after earning two additional strikes on Sunday.

She had been given a strike in the first week of the show for her aggression towards Ilebaye during which she pulled the housemate’s wig.

On Saturday night, Beauty displayed another aggression when she threw her wig and glasses at her ‘lover’ Groovy and attempted to break his microphone because he danced with Chomzy, a Level 1 housemate at the Saturday night party.

Reacting to Beauty’s brief stay in the house as a result of her aggressive displays, Nnaji noted: “If a beauty queen cannot survive in BBN house in less than two weeks in biggie’s house, it’s obvious she bought her crown period.

“Most beauty pageant crowns are being bought nor merited.”
