    New Oloworo of Oworo pledges peaceful reign

    The new monarch of Oworonshoki Kingdom Oba Babatunde Saliu has assured his subjects that his reign would usher in the much-needed peace, normalcy, prosperity and tranquillity.

    Oba Babatunde Saliu gave the assurance while addressing some residents of Oworonshoki community and other well-wishers who had thronged his palace to congratulate him on ascending the throne of his ancestors.

    In his first public interaction after receiving his certificate and staff of office from the Lagos State Government on Wednesday June 15, 2022, the new Oloworo of Oworo urged the people of Oworonshoki to be at peace with one another, stressing the brouhaha of the obaship tussle is over.

    Addressing the crowd in Yoruba, the former Kosofe Local Government Vice-Chairman declared that his reign would usher in peace, unity, normalcy, prosperity and tranquility in the kingdom.

    He also prayed smooth conception and easy delivery for the women.

    To the entire sons and daughters of Oworonsoki, Oba Saliu said: “Be at peace with yourselves. There is no more rancour, no more tussle. We are one. We are ready to make peace with everyone”.

    The new Oloworo succeeded his late father, Oba Bashir Oloruntoyin Saliu who joined his ancestors last year.

    Before his ascension to the throne, Oba Saliu was Vice Chairman of Kosofe Local Government, having won last year’s Local Government elections with Chairman, Moyosore Ogunlewe.

    He attended Irepodun Primary School, Sari Iganmu, Lagos and Comprehensive High School, Ayetoro, Ogun State.

    He holds two Bachelor’s degrees in Philosophy and Business Administration and two Master’s degrees in Philosophy, and Public Administration & International Affairs from the University of Lagos.

    Three burnt to death in Bayelsa auto crash

    Three persons have been burnt to death in a fatal auto crash along the East-West Road near Opokuma junction in Kolokuma-Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

    In the accident, which occurred late Monday evening, three persons sustained varying degrees of burns while three others, including a police officer survived with minor injuries.

    It was gathered the accident, which left many motorists and commuters stranded for hours, shut down vehicular movements along the major expressway linking the South-South region with other parts of the country.

    It was also gathered two cars, a Toyota Camry with plate-number LS 529 KY and a Mazda 323 with plate-number GBB 532 XA had a head-on collision which resulted in the vehicles going up in flames.

    Eyewitnesses said the Camry car was loaded with petroleum products which sparked the fire.

    It was learnt that two men and a woman were killed in the crash and burnt beyond recognition.

    A senior official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Bayelsa confirmed the​ injured victims were rescued and taken to a hospital in Yenagoa, the state capital, for treatment.

    The FRSC official, who spoke in confidence, said: “The two cars were burnt​ and the victims in the Mazda car were burnt beyond recognition as the Camry was loaded with adulterated Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) which sparked the fire.

    “FRSC officials in KOLGA with the assistance of other motorists cleared the obstruction on the road for free flow of traffic.”
    The FRSC official, however, attributed the cause of the accident to speeding which resulted in loss of control.

    Spokesman for the Bayelsa State Police Command, Asinim Butswat, also confirmed the incident.

    Butswat, a Superintendent of Police, said though the details of the accident were not immediately available, “three persons were burnt to death and three sustained first degree burns. Three others were injured including a police constable.”

    Niger IPMAN shuts fuel stations over fuel attendant’s death

    The Niger chapter of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has shut all fuel stations across the Minna metropolis over the killing of a fuel attendant by a soldier.

    The soldier, who is said to belong to the Nigerian Air Force, shot the fuel Attendant identified as Abdulkareem when he tried to intervene in a quarrel between him and the manager.

    The soldier, who felt affronted by the audacity of the fuel attendant, reportedly shot Abdulkareem, who was confirmed dead at the Minna General Hospital.

    Niger IPMAN chairman Adamu Erena lamented how security agencies have been flexing muscles and threatening staff at filling stations.

    According to him: “This kind of incident with security agencies happens several times. We can no longer stay and let these people continue to come and flex muscles with our staff. It means our staff are not safe if we continue to allow this.”

    Erena alleged that one of the hands of the attendant was cut by one of the soldiers before he was shot twice by another.

    An aide of Delta Governor, Ossai Success has advised controversial artist, Habeeb Okikiola aka Portable to undergo alcohol and drug rehabilitation.

    He was reacting to a video where the artist masterminded the beating of a former friend for sending a message to his wife.

    On his verified Facebook page, Success said: “Take Portable to alcohol and drug rehabilitation centre. As a young boy, I love Zazu singer Portable’s zeal for defeating poverty but the truth must be told.

    “There are a lot of misbehaviours in him that are associated with too much alcohol and drugs. This young boy needs to be taken care of before he gets himself damaged all in the name of fame.

    “Someone close to him should as a matter of urgency take Portable to an alcohol and drug rehabilitation centre.     Davido extends tour to Europe

    Afrobeats singer Davido has announced the continuation of his “We Rise by Lifting Others” tour.

    The tour, he said, will move to Europe after holding in North American cities including Brooklyn, Toronto, Boston, Chicago and Los Angeles.

    The North American tour, which started on June 16, ends on June 25.

    He began with a concert in New York on Thursday night, June 16 where he brought his cultural heritage to New York as a caricature of the Osun Osogbo Sacred Grove was at the stage of the concert.

    Speaking during “The Daily Show” with Trevor Noah on the “We rise by lifting others Tour”, Davido said his latest song, “Stand Strong” was to challenge himself, seeing he wants to do things differently.

    Sharing the details of his forthcoming Europe tour, Davido noted it will kick off on July 1 and run on intervals to September 3, 2022.

    The Europe tour will see the “Stand Strong” crooner thrill fans in Portugal, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Spain and Sweden.

    Three Senators of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have resigned from the party.
    The lawmakers are Senators Ahmad Babba-Kaita (Katsina North); Lawal Yahaya Gumau (Bauchi South) and Francis Alimikhena (Edo North).
    Whilst Babba-Kaita and Alimikhena joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Gumau pitched tent with the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
    The notice of their resignation and defection was contained in three separate letters read during plenary by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, on Tuesday.
    Babba-Kaita’s letter reads in part: “As Senator representing Katsina North Senatorial District, I write to formally notify you of my resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), and registration declaration for the Peoples Democratic Party.

    “My resignation from the APC was born out of the marginalisation of critical stakeholders by the State Government and leadership of the party in Katsina State, where small people like me do not have a chance.
    “I have since been joyful and graciously accepted into the fold of the Peoples Democratic Party in Katsina State.”
    On his part, Senator Alimikhena, noted that his decision to resign from the APC was as a result of “continuing and multifaceted crisis that has bedeviled the APC”, especially in his Senatorial District, “that has created parallel executives that has undermined internal discipline, cohesion and focus.”
    The defection by the three lawmakers reduces the total number of APC Senators from 70 to 67 in the Upper Chamber.

    Popular actor Yul Edochie has voiced his opinion on the trending subject of vote-buying and selling on social media.

    There were allegations of vote-buying at the just-concluded Ekiti governorship won by Biodun Oyebanji of the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC).

    The former presidential aspirant argued it’ll be easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than to convince people who can barely feed not to sell their votes.

    Singer and songwriter Ejiro Utibe Segbuyota aka Dchessking has expressed gratitude to God over his career so far.

    His latest EP is titled ‘Good things’.

    Dchessking, who started music very early, said: “It wasn’t easy to break into the industry as a young artiste, especially to get noticed for a long time. But I had promised myself that I had to make it happen.

    “The journey has been tough but it just turned me into a stronger person and nothing more. A weak mind wouldn’t be able to withstand the height of discouragement and discomfort while trying to get some attention. But with the doggedness and determination, I kept on my focus and didn’t renege.”

    They were reported cases of inducement and alleged vote-buying.

    Reacting to the outcome of the Ekiti governorship poll, the Afrobeats superstar said residents of Osun will by all mean resist every attempt to subvert their mandate.

    “Osun is not Ekiti as our people will lawfully resist all attempts to rob them as was done in 2018 … July 16 we shall rejoice! See y’all soon but for now,” he tweeted.
