Veteran actor Chidi Mokeme has opened up on why he was away from the scene for a long tim
He said he couldn’t act because of a rare health condition that manifested like a facial stroke. The star actor of the blockbuster movie ‘Shanty Town’ explained he was diagnosed with Bell’s palsy, a condition that causes sudden weakness in the muscles on one side of the face.
He made this known on Channels Television’s ‘Rubbin Minds’ at the weekend.
According to him: “Yeah, I have been off the scene for a while after we did the promotional tour for ‘76 and we went to the Toronto International Film Festival. “I will say something that I haven’t actually said somewhere else because after that, as we were preparing to go to the UK for the British International Film Festival, I came down with something called Bell’s Palsy, it was the first time I was hearing it.
“Bell’s Palsy comes like a stroke and it’s something that affects one side of your face and sort of gives you a droop. It was something that the doctors felt was incurable because they didn’t know what causes it and they didn’t know how to treat it.
“So, as an actor, if you come down with something that affects your face, you can imagine what I must have been going through at that time.”
“I thought it was something I could move around with, I tried to come for the Lagos premiere of 76 at the time but the attention was sort of focused on the face rather than the premiere.
“Then I knew it was not something that I could work with. I will take time off to try and sort out that problem. So in the meantime, I just focused on doing my other business.”

The management assured the public the music star was a law-abiding citizen while promising to seek a redress of Dorcas’ defamatory comments against the singer in court.

“In the interview, the estranged lover made inferences to the fact that she was robbed while on vacation with her ex-boyfriend. Specifically, she stated that her mobile phone, laptop and other valuables were stolen, while she and her ex-boyfriend were asleep at their resort in Zanzibar, Tanzania.
“Whilst the above matter has been referred to our lawyers for appropriate review and action, we wish to state for the records that;
“a. Skiibli and DSF once went on vacation to Zanzibar on 19th June 2022 and returned to Lagos on 25th June 2022
“b. The trip was paid for by the estranged lover as a birthday gift to Skibii, as she stated that she would not be around for Skilbii birthday – 5th July 2022

“f. Upon their return to Lagos, Skibii bought a new iphone for his estranged lover to replace her stolen phone.
“g. Prior to the trip, Skibii had gotten his estranged lover a new macbook pro laptop, which she did not travel with and as such it was her old laptop that was stolen. Accordingly, there was no need for Skilbil to replace this item.
“h. Skilbii’s cartier rose-gold watch was stolen in the raid and he bought the silver variant of the watch in September 2022, as the stolen watch has not been recovered or found by the Tanzanian police. The new watch was purchased in South Africa and delivered to Lagos by Skilbii’s friend Larry Gaga.
“Please remain assured that Skilbii is law-abiding citizen and he will be seeking redress for the defamatory statements made by the estranged lover in the court of law.”

Discussing her dating age preference with media personality, Toke Makinwa on her podcast, ‘Tokemoments’, the comedic act said she gets the feeling of cockroaches in her belly when younger guys 40 slide into her DM to woo her.
46-year-old Chigul warned them to stay away from her and never approach her, especially those in their 20s
She wondered what they’ll be discussing considering the age bracket and also because she had tried dating younger guys in the past but proved to be an absurd idea.
“Your own, they gave you butterflies. Mine they gave me cockroaches. I’m like, ‘What the hell do you want from me, Satan?’ I can’t no more because, I don’t know. I say, ‘Uncle why?’ ‘Oh I like you’. Don’t like me. Just slide out of my DM. Close the DM. Tell Instagram to off your mic.
“My groove has died. It doesn’t want to come back. Leave us alone! If you are not 40, look! Even 40 sef. Look I tried. They said try younger man, I did. And it was not a good idea. Neither was it a good idea and it ‘ideaed’ out. I said I’m not doing,” she said.
Precisely stating her preferred age bracket, Chigul added: “If you want to step to me, check your passport, the date of birth. If by happenstance it doesn’t say 197…, don’t come my way, okay. Don’t! Don’t approach me. Lose my number, lose my name.
“Now, because I need to be able to have a conversation that you’ll understand should be in your 40s. So, that when I say something, you’ll say, Ah! It’s true’.
“What am I going to be talking with a 20 something year old, what? How you buy o! Look at his chest?!
“Then I’ll now be quarrelling with younger women over….he’s somebody’s prayer point, mbanu (NO, NO, NO!)”
The commission described vote-in-exchange for money as a cankerworm that had eaten deep into the country’s political system.
The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Rivers State, Johnson Alalibo Sinikiem, spoke on Monday in Port Harcourt at the opening ceremony of the 2023 Week of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
Speaking on the theme of the Correspondents’ Week: “Media Vigilance Ahead of Peaceful 2023 Election In Rivers State”, Sinikiem said the electoral body had sensitised the youths in various villages in the country to monitor and report anyone involved in vote-buying.
Sinikiem, who was represented by the Head, Voter Education and Publicity, Mark Usulo, said in the new Electoral Act, anyone found with another person’s Permanent Voter Card (PVC) risked a jail term.
He said the security agencies, especially the Nigerian Police and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) had been briefed to watch out for people in possession of others’ PVCs.
The REC, who called on the media to ensure accurate reportage of INEC activities before, during and after the general elections, said the electoral body would ensure free, fair, credible and peaceful poll. END
