Actress Biodun Okeowo slams colleagues for ‘wicked’ lack of support

Actress Biodun Okeowo has expressed disappointment and frustration over the lack of support from her colleagues for her new movie, “December Party”.

In a video posted on Instagram, Okeowo recalled promoting many movies she didn’t feature in and reaching out to producers to send their movies for promotion.

Okeowo questioned why she’s not receiving similar support for her own project, stating she’s only received backing from a few colleagues.

She described her fellow actors as “wicked” and emphasised that support should be intentional and rooted in collective growth.

She said: “I have posted a lot of movies that I didn’t even feature in. Even though I have not produced any movie since 2013, I have been supporting people to the extent that I went to the DMs of producers to send their movies to me to promote. I have now produced my own movie (DECEMBER PARTY), but no one is supporting me.

“What is my offence to you all? Am I that bad? Only a few of my colleagues, whom I can count, supported me. It is when bad things happen to people that you post. You are w!cked.

“Favour is selective and personal. What I am talking about is support, which is intentional, professional, and rooted in collective growth. We are useful to ourselves alive… then let’s support ourselves while we are still living”.

Okeowo further thanked those who supported her, appreciating their encouragement, shares, prayers, and love.

“To everyone I asked for support and who supported me, both within the industry and beyond it, thank you. Your encouragement, shares, prayers, and love carried this journey. I do not take any of it for granted”, she added.

BREAKING: Court grants ex-AGF Malami, son, wife N1.5bn bail

The immediate past Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, on Wednesday secured bail in the sum of N1 billion from the Federal High Court in Abuja.

In a ruling delivered by trial judge, Justice Emeka Nwite, the court also granted bail to Malami’s wife, Hajia Bashir Asabe, who is a co-defendant in the case, in the sum of N500 million, bringing the total bail granted to N1.5 billion.

Justice Nwite ordered that each of the defendants must produce two sureties in like sum.

The sureties are required to be owners of landed property in Asokoro, Maitama or Gwarinpa areas of the Federal Capital Territory.

The court further directed that the defendants submit title documents of the properties for verification and surrender their international passports. The sureties were also ordered to provide two recent passport photographs and depose to affidavits of means.

FULL LIST: Five notable foreign Leaders captured by US

U.S. President Donald J. Trump, on Saturday, January 3, announced the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro following an overnight joint military operation in Caracas.

Speaking at a news conference from his Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach, Florida, Trump described the raid as a high-risk extraction carried out against what he called a heavily fortified target in the heart of Venezuela’s capital.

According to the U.S. President, the operation resulted in the arrest of Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores de Maduro. Trump said the pair will face criminal proceedings in the United States stemming from a 2020 Department of Justice indictment that includes charges of narco-terrorism and drug trafficking.

While the detention of a sitting foreign president is rare and controversial, Maduro’s case is not without historical precedent. On a handful of consequential occasions, the United States has directly detained or removed sitting presidents or de facto heads of state abroad, actions that have often sparked lasting legal, diplomatic and sovereignty debates.

Here are notable foreign leaders who have been detained by the United States.

    1. 1901 — Emilio Aguinaldo (Philippines)

During the Philippine–American War, U.S. forces conducted a covert operation to capture Emilio Aguinaldo — leader of the Filipino independence movement and head of a rival government. Although not a president in today’s sense, Aguinaldo’s detention effectively broke organized resistance and highlighted America’s expanding imperial reach at the start of the 20th century.

His capture remains a defining moment in early U.S. colonial history.

    2. 1990 — Manuel Noriega (Panama)

Once a CIA asset turned adversary, Panama’s military ruler Manuel Noriega was seized during Operation Just Cause, the U.S. invasion of Panama in 1989–1990. After his surrender, Noriega was flown to the United States, tried in a federal court on drug trafficking charges and sentenced to prison.

His case stands as perhaps the clearest example of the U.S. treating a foreign head of state as a criminal defendant within its own legal system.

    3. 2003 — Saddam Hussein (Iraq)

After the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, Saddam Hussein was found hiding near Tikrit in December 2003. His capture marked a symbolic end to the Ba’athist regime.

Following his arrest, Saddam was transferred to Iraqi authorities, tried before an Iraqi court for crimes against humanity and executed in 2006.

This remains one of the most legally formalised cases of a foreign leader detained after U.S. military engagement.

    4. 2004 — Jean-Bertrand Aristide (Haiti)

The removal of Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide remains one of the most disputed U.S. interventions of the modern era.

In the midst of an armed uprising, U.S. forces escorted Aristide onto a plane and flew him out of Haiti.

Washington described the move as a protective evacuation amid chaos, while Aristide later denounced it as a forcible removal, calling it a “kidnapping.”

Debate endures over whether he was “captured,” but the U.S. undeniably controlled his departure.

    5. 2026 — Nicolás Maduro (Venezuela)

In a stunning and highly controversial military operation on January 3, 2026, U.S. forces captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in Caracas and transported him to New York to face criminal charges, including narco-terrorism and drug trafficking.

Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, appeared in federal court on January 5 and entered not guilty pleas amid debate over the legality of the operation and claims of presidential immunity.

The Trump administration argued the action was justified by longstanding indictments and a global narcotics threat, but critics say it violates international law and sovereign norms.

  • Abia teachers threaten indefinite strike

    Abia teachers threaten indefinite strike

The Abia chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has threatened to embark on an indefinite strike if the state government failed to address its welfare demands within seven days.

The threat is contained in a notice of ultimatum issued on Monday and signed by the state NUT Chairman, Mr Friday Madu, and the Secretary, Mrs Nnenna Okonkwo.

The ultimatum, which expired at midnight on Jan. 12, followed what the union described as government inaction on issues earlier raised in a communiqué dated Dec. 19, 2025.

The union lamented that the industrial harmony currently enjoyed in the state was being endangered by the failure of relevant government officials to act on teachers’ grievances.

Key among the demands are the resolution of alleged irregularities in the 65/40 years service elongation policy, including illegal disengagement of teachers, removal from payroll, and demotion of head teachers.

Others include the payment of outstanding salary arrears owed to primary and junior secondary school teachers and reinstatement of the 27.5 per cent Teachers’ Special Salary Structure for primary school teachers.

The NUT also demanded salary harmonisation among teachers on the same grade level and implementation of consequential minimum wage adjustments for secondary school teachers.

It also demanded release of approved running costs for head teachers, payment of outstanding leave allowances.

Part of the NUT demand is also the correction of the alleged wrongful remittance of NUT dues to the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions.

It further called for the cancellation of the proposed Computer-Based Test format for promotion interviews.

The union warned that failure to meet these demands at the expiration of the ultimatum would leave it with no option but to direct its members to commence an indefinite strike.(NAN)

  • Chris Okafor submits self at SCID

Chris Okafor submits self at SCID

After failing to honour the police invitation on Monday, embattled founder of Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, Pastor Chris Okafor, on Tuesday, reported at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, for questioning.

Okafor, it was gathered, arrived at the department on Tuesday afternoon after some highly placed persons cautioned him about disobeying a lawful invitation.

His defiance, it was learnt, was not unconnected to the ongoing investigation of the case between himself and estranged lover, actress Doris Ogalla, at the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Zone 2 Command in Onikan.

Sources told The Nation that the preacher accused by multiple women of sexual impropriety, abuse of authority, and alleged murder, felt that since a case was already initiated by him at the zonal command where Ogalla was alleged to have been detained earlier, he could ignore subsequent invitations from other police units.

“But some highly placed persons read the news that he shunned the police invitation and warned him about the implications. That’s why he presented himself at the SCID in Yaba for questioning.

“His statement was taken, but he was not detained since there is no complainant yet. We have made attempts to reach out to the victims, even offered them protection and transportation to and from, but no one showed up.

“Since there is already an investigation ongoing at Zone 2, where there is a suspect and a complainant, the Lagos Police Command will stand down to allow Zone 2 conclude their investigation.

“However, our offer to victims to come forward remains open. We are not dismissing the case, we are just standing down,” said a senior officer who pleaded anonymity.

Spokesperson for the police command, SP Abimbola Adebisi confirmed the pastor was at the SCID on Tuesday afternoon but did not give further details.

Okafor was invited by the Lagos State Police Command in a letter dated January 3, which directed he should submit himself for interrogation on or before 10 am on Monday, a directive he rebuffed.

Okafor’s issue with the law followed a series of allegations from multiple women, including his daughter, ex-lovers, and members of his church.

The Commissioner of Police (CP) Olohundare Jimoh ordered a probe into the matter as more weighty allegations emerged online against the pastor.

Okafor’s disgrace started weeks ago after Ogalla, with whom he had an unholy relationship, called him out over an alleged breach of a marriage promise.

The allegations with supporting audio-visual “evidence” startled the public, causing outrage, with Nigerians demanding a criminal investigation against Okafor.

The pastor who tied the knot with his new bride, Pearl, on December 16, initially dismissed the allegations as the handiwork of his enemies but later admitted to some and tendered a public apology to his congregants before stepping aside as the senior pastor of the church.

Among his accusers are his Cameroonian ex-wife, with whom he allegedly had four children and multiple women in his congregation, including three siblings who claimed to have been hypnotised and impregnated by the randy preacher.

Ogalla, who has refused to back down from publicly shaming Okafor, alleged he shared her nude photographs and videos; made her leave her previous marriage, caused the death of her younger brother, along several other accusations.

She further alleged that Okafor offered her a $10,000 bribe to retract her allegations and blame a rival pastor for orchestrating the scandal, a request she refused.

Ogalla later demanded N1 billion in damages through a legal notice filed by her lawyers, alleging threats and intimidation following her arrest and detention by the police.

  • Police probe alleged $2,000 extortion by Ogudu Officers

Police probe alleged $2,000 extortion by Ogudu Officers

The Lagos State Police Command has commenced an investigation into allegations that officers attached to the Area H Police Command, Ogudu, extorted $2,000 (about N3.33 million) from a couple they allegedly wrongfully arrested in December 2025.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed this on her X handle that the officers involved had been identified and brought to the Command Headquarters for questioning.

She said, “The officers involved in the alleged extortion have been identified and brought to the Command Headquarters. The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has directed the DC ‘A’ to oversee the investigation. The officers have given their statements, and we are awaiting the complainant to come forward to present his side of the story.”

The alleged extortion came to public attention after details of the incident surfaced on X.

According to the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ), a friend of the couple, identified as Abiodun Alabi (not real name), said the incident occurred in the early hours of December 18, 2025. The couple was reportedly travelling out of Lagos when they were stopped by police officers.

Alabi said the officers allegedly profiled the man, seized his phones, and took both him and his wife to the Ogudu Police Station. He claimed the woman, who was pregnant at the time, was made to sit outside while the man was taken inside and compelled to write an incriminating statement without the presence of a lawyer.

He further alleged that the officers initially demanded $5,000 in USDT but later agreed to collect $2,000 after negotiations. The money was reportedly transferred to a wallet address provided by the officers, after which all traces of the transaction were allegedly deleted.

Following the incident, Alabi said he petitioned the Police Complaints Response Unit (CRU), which linked him to the Station Officer at Area H Command, Olumide Jegede. A meeting was later arranged at the station on December 23, where the couple reportedly identified some of the officers involved.

During the meeting, Alabi alleged that the officers attempted to justify their actions and later claimed the money had already been shared among several personnel. As a result, they allegedly offered a partial refund.

FIJ said N2.2 million has so far been returned to the victims.

Calls placed to the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, to confirm whether the complainant had reported to the command headquarters were not answered as of press time.
