The Delta State Police Command has achieved a significant milestone in its ongoing battle against cultism and violent crime with the successful apprehension of thirteen (13) suspected members of the Aiye Confraternity, also known as Black Axe.
This operation reportedly took place during a tactical intervention in the Ekraka Community forest located in Kokori, Ethiope East Local Government Area of the state.
Shedding light on the operation, the Command’s spokesman, Superintendent of Police (SP) Bright Edafe, said on December 20, 2025, the police operatives acted on credible intelligence regarding a planned initiation ceremony by the cult members in the forest.
Edafe said the operatives, led by SP Collins Achem, Commander of the Quick Response Squad (QRS), executed the operation in a highly strategic manner.
He stated that the incident occurred around 2300 hours, when the suspects were confronted by a police patrol team.
The spokesman said upon the patrol team’s arrival, the suspects initiated a gunfight in an attempt to evade capture.
He averred that the police operatives demonstrated exceptional professionalism and tactical acumen, resulting in the arrest of thirteen (13) suspects.
He, however, said several other suspected cult members managed to escape into the dense forest.
Edafe said during the search of the area, law enforcement recovered an array of dangerous items, including firearms — two (2) automatic pump-action guns, one (1) double-barrelled cut-to-size gun, and one (1) single-barrelled cut-to-size gun.
Other Items recovered, according to the spokesman, are one (1) battle axe, aprons displaying the “NBM” insignia, razor blades that had been cut into pieces, several mobile phones, charms, and suspected hard drugs.
Edafe said the operation underscored the Delta State Police Command’s commitment to combating cultism and ensuring the safety and security of communities.
He equally said the recovery of firearms and other dangerous items is a crucial step in curtailing the activities of violent crime syndicates in the state.
He further said that, in addition, seven (7) vehicles believed to be owned and used by members of the cult group were recovered and towed to the QRS Base in Warri.
Edafe said the suspects are currently in custody, while investigations have commenced to establish their individual roles, dismantle the network, and track down other fleeing members of the syndicate.
Meanwhile, the Command has said it has zero tolerance for cultism and violent crime.
The spokesman, therefore, called on parents, schools, community and faith leaders, and youths to see the fight against cultism as a shared duty, driven by guidance, positive role models, and timely reporting.
Edafe urged residents to remain vigilant and to continue supporting the police with credible information as efforts to keep Delta State safe continue.
…as Akpabio announces automatic employment for sons of deceased Police aide
The Senate on Tuesday paid glowing tributes to the late Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, who represented the Delta North Senatorial District in the Ninth Assembly.
During plenary, Senate President Godswill Akpabio also announced automatic employment for the two sons of his police rider, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Hussani Ibrahim, who died in a ghastly motor accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway on Sunday.
Tributes to Nwaoboshi followed a motion moved by Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas (APC, Delta South). Separately, a motion honouring the late DSP Ibrahim and Alhaji Ibrahim Tukur—who died recently—was moved by Senator Sunday Karimi (APC, Kogi West). Tukur served as the driver to Senator Jibrin Isah (Echocho), representing Kogi East, for 25 years.
The Senate observed a minute’s silence in honour of Nwaoboshi, Akpabio’s police rider, and Senator Isah’s long-serving driver.
Lawmakers commiserated with the family of the late Nwaoboshi, as well as the government and people of Delta State. The Senate also expressed condolences to the family of DSP Ibrahim and the Senate President over the tragic loss.
Announcing the automatic employment of the late officer’s two sons, Akpabio informed his colleagues of the accident during plenary. DSP Ibrahim, who served as the Senate President’s rider, has since been buried according to Islamic rites.
In a heartfelt tribute, Akpabio described the late officer as a man who deeply understood the value of work and service.
“Your late father understood the value of work and service. He devoted himself to it. Unfortunately, instead of earning a laurel for his devotion, he earned death. But it is a death not in vain; a death that testifies to his legacy of service. May the Lord accept his soul,” Akpabio said.
He extended condolences to the bereaved family, the Inspector General of Police, and the Nigeria Police Force.
“I commiserate with the family, the Inspector General of Police, and the Nigeria Police Force over the loss of this courageous, fearless, and daring officer. While I pray that God accepts his soul, may He grant the family and the Nigeria Police Force the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” he added.
The Senate President’s offer of automatic employment for DSP Ibrahim’s sons was described as a gesture of support to the family in recognition of the officer’s sacrifice and service.
In a related development, the Senate also honoured the late Alhaji Ibrahim Tukur, a committed driver who served Senator Jibrin Isah for 25 years, observing a minute’s silence and praying for the repose of the souls of the departed.

Leaders and members of the Cross River Elders Advisory Council from the Northern Senatorial District have rebuked former All Progressives Congress(APC) State Chairman, Alphonsus Eba, for what they termed an “unacceptable media outburst” regarding internal party matters.
The elders, operating under the Cross River State Consultative Forum (CRSECF), also reaffirmed support for Governor Bassey Edet Otu.
In a statement by seven prominent elders of the district, the CRSECF addressed Eba’s recent public comments, stating they were made without consultation and have “embarrassed and ridiculed” the leadership of the senatorial district, the APC, the state, and well-meaning Nigerians.
“The Council dissociates itself from his comments regarding an internal APC matter that could have been resolved privately,” the statement reads.
“Eba did not consult with the Council, acting solely on his own, and his behavior should not be interpreted as representative of the political leadership of the Northern Senatorial District.”
The elders emphasised that public office holders should act as stewards of public trust, consulting with constituents and engaging democratically in all decisions.
They stressed that Eba’s actions do not reflect the character of the Northern Senatorial District, which they described as “unique, hardworking, trustworthy, respectful, and peace-loving.”
The CRSECF also appealed to Governor Otu and other party leaders at the state and national levels not to judge the district’s leadership capabilities based on Eba’s conduct.
They passionately requested that the position of State Chairman of the APC be retained within the Northern Senatorial District, asserting that there are “credible, sincere, and respectful individuals” capable of leading.
“We passionately request that the position of State Chairman of the APC be retained in the Northern Senatorial District,” the statement continued.
The Council concluded by reiterating its “total commitment and loyalty” to Governor Otu’s administration and pledged to protect and uphold its progressive intentions.
The statement was endorsed by Prof. John Shiyam (Vice Chairman, North, CRSECF), Dr. Julius Okputu (Secretary, CRSECF), Chief Dr. Tony Undiandeye (Member Elders Advisory Council of CRSECF), Ntufam Fidelis Ugbo (Member Elders Advisory Council of CRSECF), Chief Signor Omang Idiege (Member Elders Advisory Council of CRSECF), Chief Dr. Peter Ojie (Member Elders Advisory Council of CRSECF), and Hon. Chief Boniface Okache (Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor).
Kwara APC stakeholders and thought leaders were awestruck on Monday evening as cabinet members took turns to give data, figures, and footages of how far the Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has gone in delivering its campaign promises across the state.
Commissioner for Works Abdulquawy Olododo said official records show that the Abdulrazaq administration now has more completed, ongoing, or facilitated (tax credit) road projects than the three previous administrations since 1999 combined.
He said the administration has completed 302.4kms of roads between 2019 and now, has 275.25km ongoing, including the 209.7km under RAAMP, along with the 294km tax credit road — totaling 871.65km of roads.
“Between 1999 and 2019, available records show that a total of 651.2km roads were done by the three administrations of His Excellencies Mohammed Lawal, Abubakar Bukola Saraki, and Abdulfatah Ahmed, including the 120km FG-funded Chickanda Road under Senator Saraki. When you juxtapose these records, it is clear that His Excellency AbdulRazaq has surpassed that record today,” Olododo said, backing his presentation with footages of achievements of the administration.
Commissioner for Finance Dr. Hauwa Nuhu said the government has also implemented two minimum wages and paid more counterpart funds than any previous administrations, restating the commitment of the Governor to the wellbeing of Kwarans, including civil servants.
She said the administration has grown the state’s internal revenue from N30.6bn in 2019 to N87.1bn as at Dec 19, 2025 — more than 100 per cent growth in six years.
She mentioned that the administration has cleared all salary and pension arrears the administration inherited — while 100% CONMESS and CONHESS have also been paid and a new 27.5% Teachers Specific Allowance (TSA) has just been approved.
Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, who detailed the trajectory of school infrastructure and other efforts of the government, said the AbdulRazaq administration has hired 8,912 teachers, constructed more than 2,000 classrooms, and bridged gaps in staff welfare, including fixing promotion arrears since 2016 to date.
A presentation on the urban renewal initiative and the Kwara Smart City added vistas to the event as Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development Dr. Segun Ogunsola explained the vision and the steps so far taken, including the construction work on the Kwara State University of Education.
Dignitaries at the event said the achievements of the Governor are unprecedented, phenomenal, visible
to all, and laudable within the context of Kwara’s sociopolitical history.
Senator Salihu Mustapha (Kwara Central) said: “With these achievements that we have seen here today, I think it’s a thing of joy that it is in our lifetime that we have a Governor who, in his quiet moment, has been able to achieve this. If anybody has told us that the state has progressed to this level, we will not believe it but we have seen it first hand.
“From today, I am one of those who will carry the flag out there and say come to Kwara and see what the Governor has done. This is a gathering of APC family and it indicates that we were not wrong in the choice of our leader.
“We have seen the human capital development, we have seen the infrastructural development, we have seen the social welfare, what else do you need in a society again? All we need to do is to continue to pray and beg Allah for a peaceful co-existence.
“For me at the end of this programme, Kwarans should go on a celebration galore because in the last 16 years before His Excellency, I don’t think anybody can boast of infrastructural development like this. I want to thank His Excellency, who has led us this far and also to the committed team God has given him.”
Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) Prince Lateef Fagbemi said the Governor has done very well, calling on critics to be fair in pointing out areas they want improvements on as no system is ever perfect.
“I want to say that the meeting of today is not just to eat. We have been treated to the achievements of the Governor. Believe me, if you bring a blind man to Kwara State, he would know and appreciate that developments are taking place,” he said.
“Don’t let us be sentimental. We are all living witnesses to the good performance of this administration. If we allow this chance to slip away we will all suffer for it. We are bound to disagree but the solution is not in destroying ourselves.
“When the thing is not going in the way you think, or perceive, and the way you would have loved it to be, the solution is not in destroying the programme. We have seen how the Governor has managed labour issues. We have also seen his achievements in education and healthcare, and others.”
Speaker of the House of House of Assembly Engr. Salihu Yakubu-Danladi said the lawmakers in the state have always been convinced that the Governor is a superlative achiever whose footprints exist everywhere in the state.
His words: “On behalf of my colleagues in the 10th Assembly, I want to state that we have been part and parcel of this government in the last six years. Most of these achievements are what we see in every budget circle, just as we are aware that the Governor has just presented the 2026 budget today.
“The Governor of Kwara State has done wonderfully well in the 24 state constituencies. In all 193 wards, there are projects everywhere. Aside from the physical infrastructure, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has done very well in the areas of stomach infrastructure through social investment programmes.”
Director General, Nigeria Orientation Agency (NOA), Alhaji Issa Lanre Onilu, said with the catalogue of sectoral achievements projected at the event, Governor AbdulRazaq has performed beyond his initial estimation.
He enjoined AbdulRazaq to focus more on how to sustain some of his legacy projects, including the iconic Garment Factory, Innovation Hub, and the Kwara Smart City.
“I have always thanked our Governor and our leader for the wonderful job he is doing. But let me admit that even when I was commending him, I didn’t know this much. So, the commendations I gave to him were based on what I saw. But what I have seen today is far more than what I have ever imagined.
“I want to say clearly that we all have every reason to be proud of what has happened in the last six years. If you are not proud of it, it means you really do not know what is on the ground.
“The people I want to talk to are those in charge of our communication: please do not fall into the trap of exchanging words with the people who set us back for several years. They want you to discuss politics, they want you to discuss the mundane and irrelevant things, but let me tell you clearly that you have a lot to showcase. Focus on what we have done in the last six years, focus on the development in all the local government areas that people can see and feel. As far as governance is concerned, we have done well and Otoge has proven to be a remarkable success for this state.”
Director General, Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), Dr. Abdullateef Shittu, commended the Governor’s style of leadership both as NGF Chairman and as Governor of the state.
He described AbdulRazaq as a leader who is calm but firm, consultative but decisive, and one who is grounded in institutional respect.
“This gathering speaks to a deeper leadership instinct: the understanding that political success is sustained when dialogue remains open, when differences are managed with wisdom, and when collective responsibility is placed above individual ambition. These are values that Kwara State has come to be known for under the leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq,” he said.
State ALGON Chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Abubakar Danladi, said no single political ward in the state has not benefitted one form of capital project or the other, adding that the impacts are already being felt.
Amb. Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki, Dr. Amina Ahmed and Engr Nurudeen Adeyemi, who spoke for the three Senatorial Districts, commended the Governor’s style of leadership, his political tolerance, and a dedication to rewrite the story of Kwara.
In a short address to party leaders and thought leaders who attended the event, Governor AbdulRazaq said “I am just interested in building a legacy of leaving this state far more than I met it, a legacy of a state that is viable. I am not interested in building a dynasty, and I urge that we work together for a greater state”.
He also spoke extensively on security matters, giving insights into the successes and the challenges and reassuring the people of the government’s commitment to rid the state of kidnappers and terrorists.
He acknowledged the support of President Bola Tinubu whose economic policies the Governor said has freed up resources with which the government is able to expand infrastructure at various layers.
Governor Abdulrazaq commended everyone for turning up for the event, which he said was a continuation of the parley that held in Abuja a few weeks ago.

She stated that she is now focused on rebuilding her life from the ground up, drawing a parallel between her personal journey and the process of putting the Christmas tree back together.
According to her, life has moulded her through pain, pressure, and heartbreak, and she notes that growth and success do not mean the absence of challenges.
The breakup came after Peller’s recent accident, which prompted Jarvis to address the situation and express her fears of being blamed or attacked over the incident involving her former partner.
The Universal School of Aviation (USA) has urged newly graduated aviation professionals to uphold industry standards as it graduated over 650 students at its 14th convocation and awards ceremony in Lagos.
The event, held at the institution’s headquarters in Ikotun, Lagos, featured graduands trained in cabin crew operations, flight dispatch, airline ticketing and reservation, travel and tourism management, aviation security, and other aviation-related professional programmes.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Director of Studies, Eedris Onifade, said the school, established in 2008, has remained focused on structured aviation manpower development.
He explained that the institution initially offered management-related programmes before expanding into licensed aviation courses, a move that strengthened its relevance within the industry.
According to him, graduates of the school are currently employed by airlines, airports, and travel and tourism organisations within and outside the country.
Onifade disclosed that regulatory approvals obtained in Sierra Leone and the Republic of Chad have expanded the school’s operations beyond Nigeria.
He charged the new graduates to uphold safety, professionalism, and integrity, stressing that aviation is a responsibility-driven industry that demands strict adherence to standards.
In his keynote address, the Managing Editor of Travelscope Magazine, Omololu Olumuyiwa, urged the graduates to conduct themselves in a manner that protects the reputation of the institution that trained them.
He emphasised discipline and ethical behaviour, noting that employers in the aviation and tourism sector consistently rate Universal School of Aviation graduates highly.
An aviation career development advocate, Joy Ogbebo, encouraged the graduands to embrace resilience, discipline, and continuous learning as they begin their careers.
She described resilience as a skill, advising the graduates to view rejection as part of professional growth rather than denial.
Representing the Executive Chairman of Enugu East Local Government Area, the Senior Special Assistant on Tourism, Ugwu Cyril Uchenna, disclosed that the council sponsored 85 students for aviation training.
He said the initiative highlights the need for sustained government investment in youth empowerment and skills acquisition as a response to unemployment.
The ceremony also featured the presentation of awards in categories including leadership and diligence, with Anne Ngozi Rosemary emerging as the overall best graduating student.
The institute inducted Onifade into the Institute for Tourism Professionals of Nigeria (ITPN) in recognition of his contributions to aviation and tourism manpower development.
The institute also elevated five staff members to full membership and inducted about 110 students into its student membership category.
Performing the induction, the Lagos State Chairman of ITPN, Odewale Odeyemi, charged the new members to uphold professional ethics and promote excellence within the tourism profession.
The Director-General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), Mr. Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin, has thrown his weight behind locally manufactured motorsport cars showcased at the just-concluded Lagos AutoFest 2025, describing the initiative as a boost to Nigeria’s automotive industry and job creation drive.
The three race cars – WP1, WP2 and WP3 – displayed at the event carried NADDC stickers and thrilled spectators with high-speed performances. Designed and assembled in Nigeria, the vehicles drew wide attention for their Formula One-style racing display.
Lagos AutoFest 2025, a flagship automotive and entertainment event organised by Work and Play Promotions in collaboration with the BMW Club of Nigeria, transformed the Marina waterfront on Lagos Island into a motorsport arena.
The festival brought together over 100 car and bike enthusiasts and attracted thousands of spectators.
The event featured drag racing along Marina Road, Kakawa Street, Broad Street and Apongbon, looping back to Inner Marina, marking the seventh road edition of AutoFest.
Speaking on the sidelines, producer and promoter of Work and Play Motorsport, Mr. Adeoye Ojuoko, said the initiative was designed to promote Made-in-Nigeria vehicles and grow a sustainable motorsport culture.
“We have been producing motorsport cars since 2017. These cars are manufactured in Nigeria, with only the engines imported. Our goal is to showcase Nigerian engineering capacity, test what we build, and create employment through motorsport,” Ojuoko said.
He noted that local production significantly cuts costs and retains value within the Nigerian economy.
“If we import a Formula-style race car, it costs millions. Producing this locally costs about ₦20 million. That money stays in Nigeria, supports our factories and creates jobs,” he said.
Ojuoko urged NADDC to formally certify the vehicles and support efforts to scale production nationwide.
“We need NADDC to certify and promote these cars so they can be replicated across the country. To grow the automotive industry, we must build locally, test locally and race locally,” he added.
He also called for the establishment of an automotive and motorsport hub to enable more Nigerians to design, build and test race cars.
According to him, support from government institutions has been critical to the project’s growth.
“The backing we’ve received from the Lagos State Government and NADDC has been a game-changer. It’s not just symbolic; it is driving real growth. Today, we are fabricating race cars locally, something that seemed impossible a few years ago,” Ojuoko said.
AutoFest 2025 combined motorsport with culture and entertainment, featuring Made-in-Nigeria race cars, supercar and superbike displays, cultural showcases celebrating Lagos and Nigerian heritage, and live music performances.
The event enjoyed support from several government agencies, including the Lagos State Sports Commission, Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, LASTMA, LASEMA, LAWMA, the Nigeria Police and the Fire Service.
In addition to motorsport displays, auto dealership Coscharis Motors showcased a range of vehicles, including the Ford Explorer, Range Rover, BMW X3, Geely StarRay, Renault Koleos and Grenadier.
Organisers described AutoFest as a growing platform for automotive innovation, youth engagement and investment in Nigeria’s auto sector.
Buoyed by the success of this year’s edition, the BMW Club of Nigeria and Work and Play Nigeria announced December 20, 2026, as the date for the next Lagos AutoFest, reaffirming their commitment to positioning Nigeria on the global motorsport map.
