Seven docked over alleged impersonation on social media

The police on Tuesday, charged seven defendants before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, over alleged impersonation on Facebook, Goggle and Tiktok.

The defendants are: Oladipupo Ayomide, 21; Tosin Balogun, 27; Awodele Sodiq, 22; Timileyin Ogunwole, 27; Augustine Tochukwu, 19; Michael Ayoola, 26; and Anu Taiwo, 21.

They were charged on seven-counts bordering on impersonation and aiding escape.

They each, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Insp Femi Omilana, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Dec.22, at about 9.00 a.m. at Ajibode in Ibadan.

He alleged that the defendants falsely represented themselves on the social media spaces, as white ladies and men, with the intent to defraud people.

He said that Ogunwole (fourth defendant) on the other hand, aided the defendants to escape during arrested.

The prosecutor said that they were eventually arrested.

The offences contravenes the provisions of sections 10 and 484 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Mrs Adebola Adeola, granted the defendants bail in the sum of one million naira each, and two sureties each in like sum.

She adjourned the case until Jan. 12, 2026, for hearing.

Segilola Resources closes ‘a Year of Impact’ with Christmas celebration for Host Communities

Segilola Resources Operating Limited (SROL), a subsidiary of Thor Explorations Ltd. and operator of Nigeria’s first commercial gold mine, has closed out a remarkable, impactful year with a grand Christmas celebration that delivered festive cheer to over 2,000 children and their families across its host communities in Osun State.

The end-of-year celebration, which held at the Iperindo town hall on December 20th, reflected SROL’s sustained commitment to its host communities and reinforced the importance of partnership, unity, and shared joy. The event, organised in collaboration with SINIC Engineering and GBfoods, was a fun, family-focused gathering with music, games, performances, and gifts for children. It was truly a family affair, as children, parents, and communities came together to celebrate the season. The event strengthened community bonds, and for many families, it was a clear demonstration of SROL’s long-term dedication to responsible community development and social well-being.

Speaking on the significance of the celebration, Madhurii Sarkar-Amoda, Community Development and Stakeholder Manager at Segilola Resources Operating Limited, said, “This is the fifth edition of the Segilola host communities Christmas party and family fun day. We value our host communities and our aim is to continue to impact these communities positively. This celebration was our way of sharing joy with families and reminding them that Segilola Resources remains committed to building relationships rooted in trust, inclusion, and shared value. Moments like this strengthen the bonds that make continued long-term impact possible.”

This December, SROL also spread Christmas cheer by sponsoring the decoration and beautification of a roundabout and a flyover in Oshogbo, Osun State, and distributing end-of-year gifts in their host communities. The company was also a corporate sponsor of the Iwude Festival in Osun State, a major annual cultural festival for the Ijesha people. The company has always appreciated and supported the cultural heritage of the communities and regions it operates in.

These Christmas celebrations crowned a year of significant engagement across Osun State, during which SROL delivered various initiatives focused on economic empowerment, health, youth development, and community infrastructure.

In 2025, SROL provided business and digital skills training for over 200 women, and its Livelihood Restoration Programme (LRP) supported host community farmers with high-yield cocoa and oil palm seedlings. The company provided medical resources to over 3,000 people and launched SegunCare to support community residents with chronic conditions. These milestones are just a few demonstrations of SROL’s commitment to creating sustainable value beyond mining operations.

The company’s dedication was recognised in November when it earned multiple national recognitions, including the Community Development Champion of the Year award at the CSR Reporters’ Social Impact and Sustainability Awards (SISA). In November, it was also honoured by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment with the “Award of Excellence: Upholding the Principle of Decent Work” and bestowed with the “Distinguished Corporate Award” by the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE). These recognitions collectively reinforce SROL’s leadership in Nigeria’s growing mining industry.

Segilola Resources Operating Limited’s Christmas party and family fun day is a fitting close to an award-winning year spent building meaningful partnerships and investing in people. With its host communities at the heart of its operations, SROL remains committed to building a future defined by trust and lasting social impact.

Group hails Tinubu over rescue of abducted girls

The 313 Network for Asiwaju 2027, a grassroots support group championing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, has commended the President and Nigeria’s security forces for the successful rescue of all abducted students and teachers from St. Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary School in Papiri, Niger State.

In a statement at the conclusion of its end-of-year congress held in Lafia, the group described the release of the final batch of 130 students on Sunday as a “monumental victory” that underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to the safety and security of Nigerian citizens, particularly vulnerable children.

The congress, which featured exhaustive deliberations among members from across the country, highlighted the President’s decisive actions following the November 21 abduction of 303 students and 12 teachers by armed gunmen.

The statement noted that initial efforts saw about 50 students escape on their own, followed by the rescue of 100 more on December 8 through sustained security operations.

The final release of the remaining 130 students, as confirmed by Special Adviser to the President on Media and Communication, Sunday Dare, has now accounted for all victims.

The group praised President Tinubu’s leadership in deploying security agencies and coordinating operations that led to the safe return of the children to Minna, where they were received by Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago and reunited with their families after medical examinations.

“The President’s prompt and strategic response to this crisis demonstrates his Renewed Hope vision in action—protecting lives, restoring hope, and ensuring that no Nigerian child is left behind,” the statement signed by Ambassador Toby Prince Udo, its national coordinator added.

“This achievement attests to the effectiveness of his administration’s security architecture and a clear signal that Nigeria is safer under his leadership.

“We are deeply grateful to Mr. President for his decisive leadership that brought every single child and teacher home safely. This is Renewed Hope in tangible form.”

The 313 Network for Asiwaju 2027 also expressed profound gratitude and admiration for its Grand Patron and Financier, Senator Mohammed Sani Musa, representing Niger East Senatorial District and widely celebrated as 313.

“As the visionary founder, Grand Patron, and Financier of this movement, Senator 313 has tirelessly mobilized millions in support of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” the statement declared.

“His strategic leadership, patriotic zeal, and selfless dedication have transformed the Network into a powerful force for positive change.

“As his devoted followers and disciples, we salute Senator 313 for his exemplary service, loyalty, and remarkable ability to bridge divides while amplifying the voice of the people,” the group said.

The Network particularly thanked Senator Musa for his immense support to Mr. President, especially in the area of economic development, where his contributions have helped drive key reforms and initiatives yielding tangible benefits for Nigerians.

The 313 Network for Asiwaju 2027 reiterated its full endorsement of President Tinubu for a second term in 2027, citing his successes in security, economic reforms, and infrastructure development as reasons to rally nationwide support.

“With leaders like President Tinubu and Senator 313 at the helm, Nigeria’s future is brighter than ever,” the statement concluded.

Why I put my music career on hold – Naeto C

Singer Naetochukwu Chikwe popularly known as Naeto C has spoken about his decision to put his music career on hold, citing a desire for a different kind of life.

In a recent interview on BEAT FM, Naeto C said he got married in 2012 and had his first child in 2013, which made him realise that continuing to focus on music wouldn’t align with the life he wanted for himself and his family.

Naeto C stated, “For different reasons you know, I think I wanted something different when I thought about my future and the kind of life I wanted.

“I got married in 2012 and I had my first child in 2013, so looking at it back then, I do not really think I would get the kind of life I wanted if I continued to focus on music”.

He also shared that his journey into music was driven by passion rather than a desire for fame, and he’s been getting mixed signals about returning to the studio.

“I was one of those kinds of people that got into music not because I wanted to be a musician, it’s just because I liked music so much and I was able to make songs that people liked.

“So you go out and people are like, Naeto C, your music and I’m like, which one is it?

“Every day I meet people who remind me of the music and why the music was so special to them and every time I want to start a project, then something crazy will happen,” he added.

According to him, every time he plans to go back, something happens, and people keep telling him they miss his music.

“You know the funny thing, every time I say I’m going back to the studio, something crazy will happen in my life, it’s crazy. So I’m just like, God, do you really want me to do this, maybe you don’t want me to do this”.

Following that experience, Darlington shared controversial advice he received from his brother regarding how to manage future partners.

“He said I should just bring them in, get them pregnant and then I can tell them afterwards”, he added.

  • CSOs back FG procurement reforms, condemn sponsored attacks on agencies

CSOs back FG procurement reforms, condemn sponsored attacks on agencies

A coalition of civil society and regional development organisations has expressed support for the Federal Government’s ongoing public procurement reforms while condemning what it described as sponsored attacks against agencies and officials spearheading the reform process.

In a joint press conference in Abuja on Monday, the groups said their intervention was driven by commitment to governance reform, fiscal discipline and the national interest, warning that attempts to undermine procurement reforms through misinformation and politicisation could derail critical progress.

The group, comprising the Northern Youth Integrity Group (NYIG), the Oduduwa Development Initiative and other civil society partners, said it stepped in to clarify its position and defend the ongoing procurement reforms aimed at strengthening national economic growth, amid recent developments in Nigeria’s public procurement reform process, and to place key facts and principles on record.

Stressing that the position of the coalition was not influenced by personalities, political affiliations or institutional loyalties, NYIG’s Coordinator, Malcolm Adakole said, “Our intervention today is not motivated by personalities, political affiliations, or institutional loyalties.

“Rather, it is informed by our longstanding commitment to governance reform, fiscal discipline, and the national interest.”

The groups described public procurement reform as a core pillar of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at correcting entrenched structural weaknesses in public spending.

“Public procurement reform is a central component of the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government. It is intended to correct structural weaknesses that have, over many years, enabled inefficiency, cost inflation, procedural abuse, and weak value-for-money outcomes in public spending,” Adakole noted.

They warned that Nigeria’s development ambitions would remain unattainable without transparent and rules based procurement systems.

“Nigeria cannot achieve sustainable economic growth, infrastructure renewal, or improved service delivery if public procurement remains opaque, discretionary, and resistant to oversight,” he added.

The group said the current reform trajectory seeks to institutionalise professionalism and accountability across the procurement ecosystem, stressing, “The current reform trajectory seeks to entrench discipline, predictability, transparency, and professionalism within the procurement ecosystem.”

Outlining key measures already embedded in the reform process, Adakole said, “The ongoing reform measures include the rationalisation of procurement approval thresholds, the strengthening of prior-review and compliance mechanisms, the standardisation of bidding and evaluation documents, enforceable sanctions against defaulting contractors, and the gradual transition toward a comprehensive electronic procurement system.”

The coalition, however, noted that resistance to the reforms was neither unexpected nor accidental, “It must be stated clearly that meaningful reform inevitably generates resistance.

“Systems that benefited from weak controls and informal influence are unsettled by rules-based governance,” Adakole said.

The coalition said it had deliberately refused to participate in campaigns driven by unverified claims and personal vendettas.

“We wish to state unequivocally that our organisations have chosen to stay away from unsubstantiated allegations despite pressures from outsiders who seek to use civil society to settle personal scores with individuals in government,” the coalition stressed

They insisted that civil society advocacy must remain rooted in facts and responsibility, pointing out that “Civil society advocacy must be evidence-based and responsible.

“We reject sponsored narratives, anonymous claims, and coordinated misinformation campaigns that undermine reform under the guise of accountability.”

The groups said procurement reform must be protected from political interference and reversal, “Our position remains firm: procurement reform is a governance necessity and must be protected from politicisation and rollback.”

They also commended the media for its role in safeguarding transparency and democratic accountability.

Commending the media for its enduring role in promoting transparency, accountability, and informed public discourse, Amb. Akinyele Olasumbo, the National President of Oduduwa Development Initiative, noted that the press remains indispensable at moments of heightened policy contestation.

“The press remains a critical partner in democratic governance, particularly at moments when public policy is subjected to intense scrutiny and competing narratives,” Olasumbo said.

  • Onoh defends EFCC probe of ex- AGF Malami

Onoh defends EFCC probe of ex- AGF Malami

The former southeast spokesman to President Bola Tinubu and Chairman of forum of former members of Enugu Assembly, Denge.Josef Onoh, had strongly defended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) investigation of the former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister for Justice, Malam Abubakar Malami.

In a statement from his residence in Marne-la-Vallée Paris, Onoh said the current investigation by the EFCC was no witch-hunt or politically motivated.

Onoh, while recalling Abubakar Malami’s background prior to his appointment as AGF in 2015, said that his career was primarily that of a dedicated legal practitioner and politician from Kebbi State.

Born on April 17, 1967, in Birnin Kebbi, Malami received a solid education, blending Islamic and Western systems, culminating in an LL.B from Usmanu Danfodiyo University (1991), and was subsequently admitted into the Nigerian Bar (1992), and elevated to Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) in 2008.

Onoh further said that Malami’s professional career centered on private legal practice, including roles at firms such as K.T. Turaki & Co., as a magistrate and state counsel in Kebbi, and as principal partner of A.A. Malami & Co. (2002–2015), a litigation-focused chambers handling civil, criminal, and commercial cases without any record of massive financial payoffs from successful litigations.

He recalled that Malami was also actively involved in opposition politics, serving as National Legal Adviser to the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), contributing to the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2013, and contesting (unsuccessfully) the APC governorship ticket in Kebbi in 2014.

“I therefore challenge Malami to make public his asset declaration prior to 2015,” Onoh challenged.

Onoh said that there are no credible public records of Malami owning or operating substantial private businesses—such as hotels, universities, rice mills, or large-scale investments—before his appointment as AGF.

“His pre-2015 wealth and income appear tied exclusively to his successful legal practice and modest public service roles. He established philanthropic foundations like the Kadi Malami and Khadimiyya Foundations for community development, but these were charitable, not commercial ventures and this was the Abubakar Malami I know.

“However, after serving as AGF from 2015 to 2023, Malami has been linked to an extensive portfolio of high-value assets, including the multi-billion naira Azbir Hotel and Azbir Arena in Birnin Kebbi (recently taken over by police amid probes), Rayhaan (or Rayhan) University, Rayhaan Rice Mill, private academies and multiple properties in Abuja, Kano, and Kebbi.

“These assets, estimated in petitions to the EFCC at over ₦10 billion, which I personally believe were underestimated, are alleged to be disproportionate to his known legitimate earnings before and during public office.”

Onoh said that this sudden accumulation of wealth, emerging prominently post-tenure, raises serious questions about its sources and legitimacy—questions that rightfully demand thorough investigation by the EFCC.

Onoh further stated that the ongoing EFCC probe, as of December 2025, focuses on allegations including abuse of office, money laundering, mismanagement of recovered Abacha loots (notably claims of duplication in recovering $310–$322.5 million tranches and questionable legal fees of up to $16.9 million paid to associates), and unexplained assets and not a witch-hunt.

“While he denies wrongdoing, describing the probe as politically motivated “witch-hunt” tied to his recent political activities, I make bold to say that Malami welds no strong political influence in kebbi state to warrant any witch-hunt by even a local government chairman in his state, let alone the EFCC and his calls for the EFCC Chairman’s recusal is simply laughable.

“His continuous reference to chapter 9 of the Justice Salami Report only shows the desperation of a drowning man, let me make clear to Malami that the said justice Salami Report was so beneficial to the progress of Nigeria yet he withheld it all these years and only now he thinks it serves his personal purpose that it becomes relevant.

“In a country like China, such revelation by Malami would have earned him a death sentence for sabotaging a nation. One can not come to a document and only accept a page that benefits him, you either accept as a whole or refuse as a whole. The petitions from credible groups like HEDA and others warrant independent scrutiny.”

Onoh challenged Malami to refute his narrative of his humble beginnings prior to his unexplainable wealth, which the EFCC in discharge of their mandate will soon explain which onoh said will be more explosive than Abacha’s loot.

Onoh furthermore said that the Malami he knew was actively engaged in politics, particularly with opposition parties leading to the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC):

“Malami was appointed Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice by late President Muhammadu Buhari, becoming the youngest minister in the cabinet at age 48. He was re-appointed in 2019 and served until May 2023.

“Prior to this role, the Malami I know was primarily a prominent private legal practitioner in Northern Nigeria, a senior advocate with public service experience, and an influential figure in opposition politics contributing to the APC’s formation.”

Onoh challenged Malami to provide any credible records indicate involvement in high-profile federal roles or Tax payments of a successful thriving business venture before 2015.

“Malami’s attempts to discredit the EFCC—alleging bias, vendetta, and intimidation—appear designed to deploy every resource at his disposal to blackmail and undermine the agency. As a former Chief law officer, he should submit fully to investigation rather than resist or deflect.”

Onoh said that his hypocrisy is stark when recalling Malami’s role in the controversial naira redesign policy of 2022–2023. Himself, late Gov.Rotimi Akredolu of blessed memory and  Mallam Nasir El-Rufai (then Governor of Kaduna), were the only Governors that were bold to support his stand against naira design solely aimed at frustrating  Bola Tinubu’s presidential ambition to the detriment of all Nigerians publicly opposed the policy, highlighting its devastating hardship on ordinary Nigerians, questionable timing ahead of elections, and potential political motivations.

“I recall El-Rufai described it as a mistake that deceived President Buhari and caused unnecessary suffering. I publicly attack the then CBN governor Godwin Emefiele (currently under investigation) and Malami especially for misleading Buhari into unconstitutional actions, such as bypassing consultations with the National Council of State or Federal Executive Council. I called the both   “public enemies” for defending the policy amid public hardship. The Supreme Court ultimately ruled (March 3, 2023) the policy unconstitutional in parts, extending old notes’ validity to December 31, 2023, Yet same  Malami vigorously defended it in court and publicly, even as the federal government under his legal advice disregarded Supreme Court interim orders suspending the deadline, leading to contempt threats and eventual ruling that parts were unconstitutional and criticizing late President Buhari’s unilateral directives.

“Later, the presidency (March 2023) stated that Buhari never instructed Malami or Emefiele to disobey court orders. This speaks volumes about the moral and professional character of the man that’s today accusing and blackmailing the EFCC and the Chairman of witch-hunt. He is safer under EFCC custody than at the mercy of Nigerians. Him and his convoy was attacked and nearly killed by the mob in his hometown resulting from the frustrations he subjected Nigerians under his watch while living in unearned opulence.

“Finally, as the custodian of the law tasked with recovering and protecting national assets—including billions in Abacha loots—Malami stands accused of re-looting or mismanaging the very funds he was mandated to safeguard. This betrayal of public trust is profound.

“Every right-thinking Nigerian must rise in defence of the EFCC. Allow the agency to perform its statutory duty without fear or favour. Corruption fights back fiercely, but accountability must prevail for Nigeria’s progress,” Onoh stated.

Igboho seeks Tinubu’s intervention over alleged killing of three farmers in Oyo community

Yoruba Nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene following the alleged killing of three farmers during a fresh attack by suspected herdsmen in his hometown, Igboho, Oyo State.

Igboho is located in Orelope Local Government Area of the Oke Ogun axis of the state.

Igboho alleged that the victims, identified as Aderoju Mukaila, Olawuwo Saka and Ojeniyi Ojebayo, were attacked after they protested the destruction of their farms by grazing cattle.

“Actionable intelligence should also be explored by security agencies in order to nip in the bud attacks, violence and criminalities with a views.”
