Ekiti APC mobilises members for e-registration

The Ekiti State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged its members to actively participate in the ongoing national electronic registration exercise.

The coordinator of the APC e-registration exercise in the state and Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. Gold Adesola Adedayo, made the call during a meeting with senatorial coordinators and local government supervisors in Ado-Ekiti.

Adedayo said the exercise, initiated by the Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda-led National Working Committee, commenced last year with the training of ward-level agents, noting that it was critical to strengthening the party’s structures ahead of future elections.

He explained that the registration would hold daily from 8 am to 6 pm across the state’s 177 wards for members aged 18 and above who possess valid Permanent Voter Cards and National Identification Numbers.

The commissioner charged supervisors to intensify mobilisation at the ward level and provide necessary guidance to ensure smooth participation, adding that sustained membership drives were vital to the viability of any political party.

Adedayo added that the exercise would enable the APC to ascertain its true membership strength and support base ahead of the 2027 general elections, while also contributing to the re-election bid of Governor Biodun Oyebanji in the June 20, 2026, governorship poll.

“This exercise will strengthen our party structures and ensure proper documentation of members at the grassroots,” he added.

Also speaking, the Ekiti APC Chairman, Barr. Sola Elesin, who registered during the exercise, called on party members to emulate his example, stressing that participation reflected loyalty and readiness to contribute to the growth of the party.

“As loyal and committed members, we must all come out and participate actively. APC is moving forward,” Elesin said.

Aiyedatiwa: Local production key to Ondo’s economic growth

    • …commissions Lo Choches 5,000-litre palm oil production factory in Akure

Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has underscored the critical role of local production facilities in accelerating economic growth and industrial development across the state.

The governor also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing an enabling environment for small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs) to thrive.

Aiyedatiwa made this known on Friday while commissioning a palm oil and palm kernel production factory established by Lo Choches Nigeria Limited at Irese, in Ifedore Local Government Area of the state.

Represented by his deputy, Olayide Adelami, the governor said the state government would continue to support investments that add value to local resources and create jobs for residents.

“This factory will do more than produce palm oil and palm kernel. It will create employment opportunities for our youths, stimulate ancillary businesses, support local farmers, reduce dependence on external supplies, and contribute meaningfully to our Internally Generated Revenue,” the governor said.

He stressed that sustainable business growth can only thrive in a stable and secure environment, noting that his administration has taken deliberate steps to strengthen the state’s security architecture and deepen community policing.

Governor Aiyedatiwa commended the management of Lo Choches Nigeria Limited for their confidence in Ondo State and for engaging local skills in various aspects of the factory’s operations.

Remarking, the Chief Executive Officer of Lo Choches Nigeria Limited, Lateef Audu, said the decision to establish the factory was driven by his passion for agriculture and his strong belief that Nigeria must embrace a production-based economy.

Audu expressed appreciation to the Ondo State Government for fostering a business-friendly environment and for its consistent support for entrepreneurship.

Earlier, the aide to the Governor on Diaspora Affairs and Youth Advocate, Oluyemi Fasipe, urged entrepreneurs in the diaspora to invest in Ondo State, describing it as one of the most investor-friendly states in Nigeria.

The Nation reports that the fully integrated, end-to-end facility, with a production capacity of 5,000 litres per day, is located along Irese Road in Akure, the state capital.

The plant operates a complete value chain, ensuring maximum utilisation of every component of the oil palm.

Beyond the extraction of high-quality crude palm oil and palm kernel oil, the factory processes and converts all by-products into valuable outputs.

The highlight of the event was a guided tour of the facility, during which the lead engineer explained the production process and operational capacity of the installed machinery.

Delta police redeploy DPO over alleged ‘N2.5m extortion’

The Delta State Police Command has ordered the redeployment of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jesse Division, CSP Chidi Nwabuzor, following allegations of extortion amounting to N2.5 million.

The decision followed a viral video in which a woman accused the DPO and two officers, identified as Bright and Usman, of collecting the money to secure the release of her brother from police custody.

According to the Command, the suspect, Israel Onojeruo (20), was arrested on January 1, 2026, after being implicated by another suspect who allegedly sold a firearm to him. The suspects were later transferred to the State Anti-Cult Unit for further investigation.

Reacting to the extortion allegation, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, ordered the X-Squad to investigate the matter.

According to a statement by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, one of the officers named in the video, Constable Bright, has been detained, while the DPO has been removed from his position and redeployed to the Command Headquarters pending the outcome of the probe.

The statement disclosed that the redeployment of the DPO also followed multiple complaints of extortion and unprofessional conduct from various quarters.

CP Adesola assured the public that any officer found culpable would be dealt with in line with the Police Act and regulations, stressing that the Command has zero tolerance for extortion, intimidation, or unprofessional behaviour.

  • NiDCOM boss urges ECOWAS leaders to tackle visa-free travel hurdles

NiDCOM boss urges ECOWAS leaders to tackle visa-free travel hurdles

Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has urged leaders of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to renew efforts at removing obstacles to visa-free movement across the sub-region.

Dabiri-Erewa made the call on Friday in Lagos while speaking with newsmen during a courtesy visit by Nigerian biker, Judith Amadi, who recently completed a solo motorcycle journey from Lagos to France and back.

She lamented that despite the ECOWAS protocol on free movement of persons and goods, travellers still encounter difficulties at several borders within West Africa.

According to her, the ECOWAS passport was introduced to guarantee seamless travel among member states, but years after its adoption, many citizens continue to face avoidable challenges.

She said while some progress had been made, the issue required sustained attention and public discourse.

“She (Judith Amadi) is not the first to face these challenges; others before her have experienced the same thing. This is an issue that must be brought to the forefront of our ECOWAS leaders because we are supposed to travel visa-free,” Dabiri-Erewa said.

“That is why we have the ECOWAS passport. The challenges still being faced at our borders are issues all the countries involved should look into. I believe they are doing so, but we must continue to tell our stories so everyone remains aware.”

Earlier, Amadi recounted her experience, describing the journey as both historic and revealing. She completed the ride between October 18, 2025, and January 3, 2026, to raise awareness and funds for cancer patients.

She said the two-and-a-half-month journey exposed the harsh realities Nigerians face while travelling within West Africa, particularly holders of the Nigerian green passport.

According to her, repeated border delays, unofficial charges, and excessive stamping requirements slowed her movement across several West African countries, a sharp contrast to her experience travelling within Europe using a Schengen visa.

“Trying to move from one country to another with a Nigerian passport was a huge struggle. I would be asked to wait while someone with a different passport would pass freely,” she said.

“You know the official visa fees, but when you get there, you’re told to pay for stamping and extra documentation that are not part of the official process. We are in a West African community; we’re not supposed to be paying for these things. Movement is meant to be borderless.”

Amadi also cited poor road infrastructure along some African corridors as part of the challenges she faced, but noted that the journey successfully met its advocacy objectives.

She further appealed for greater support for Nigerians living with cancer, stressing the high cost of treatment.

“One chemotherapy session costs between N300,000 and N500,000, depending on the cancer type and stage. How many average Nigerians can afford that? That’s why financial support is critical for patients to complete their treatment,” she said.

  • FG, Niger state seal deal on integrated housing, agriculture, energy development

FG, Niger state seal deal on integrated housing, agriculture, energy development

The federal government and the Niger state government have entered into a partnership to develop large-scale integrated housing and agricultural settlements aimed at boosting food security, rural stability, and inclusive economic growth, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The agreement was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding between the Niger State Government and the Ministry of Finance Incorporated, with senior federal and state officials describing the initiative as a practical response to Nigeria’s intertwined challenges of housing deficits, food insecurity, unemployment, and rural underdevelopment.

Under the arrangement, Niger State will provide 100,000 hectares of land as a pilot for the project, which combines structured farming estates with purpose-built housing and supporting infrastructure.

Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago said the concept is designed to allow farmers live within secure, functional communities that enable them to concentrate on productivity while improving safety and living standards.

“This project integrates housing into farming settlements so that our farmers are no longer displaced or forced to commute long distances to their farms,” Bago said. “By creating permanent, secure communities, we are addressing food production, security, and rural–urban migration at the same time.”

The governor explained that Niger State’s vast arable land, water resources, and existing mechanisation capacity make it well-suited for the initiative, which will be driven largely by private capital using an asset-backed financing structure. He added that the model would ease pressure on public finances while accelerating delivery.

“We are not relying on government budgets alone,” Bago said. “This is a private-capital-led initiative supported by public assets, and we are committed to fast execution, including the immediate provision of land titles to demonstrate seriousness to investors.”

The settlements are expected to feature roads, potable water, renewable energy, healthcare facilities, schools, and agro-processing centres, while also incorporating designated grazing reserves to reduce tensions between farmers and pastoralists.

Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, said the MoU reflects strong alignment between the federal and state governments in translating policy into tangible outcomes for citizens.

She described housing as more than a social intervention, noting that it plays a critical role in productivity, food systems, and economic resilience.

“This initiative recognises that housing, agriculture, and infrastructure must work together,” Uzoka-Anite said. “When farmers live in organised communities with access to power, water, roads, and markets, productivity improves, post-harvest losses decline, and rural economies become more attractive to young people.”

She said the Ministry of Finance Incorporated is central to structuring the project and mobilising private investment by optimising public assets and ensuring transparency and sustainability. According to her, the financing approach blends public land with private funding to reduce risk and deliver long-term value.

“This is about using public assets more intelligently to unlock private capital,” she said. “The result is shared risk, accountability, and projects that can be sustained beyond political cycles.”

Uzoka-Anite added that the housing units will be affordable and designed around the income realities of farmers and low- to middle-income earners, while renewable energy solutions, particularly solar power, will be integrated to lower costs and support agro-processing activities.

Managing Director of the Ministry of Finance Incorporated, Dr. Armstrong Takang, said the initiative reflects a shift toward holistic rural development that connects agriculture, housing, and energy into a single economic ecosystem.

“You cannot grow agriculture sustainably if farmers lack decent housing, power, water, and access to markets,” Takang said. “This programme is about building complete communities, not isolated projects.”

He explained that farmlands within the settlements will be organised by crop type, supported with mechanisation, irrigation, fertiliser, and improved seedlings, alongside structured off-take arrangements to guarantee market access. According to him, large contiguous farming areas will improve efficiency and maximise the impact of mechanised agriculture.

Takang also said affordable housing will be delivered using alternative building technologies to reduce costs without sacrificing quality, while each housing unit is projected to generate significant employment across construction, farming, logistics, and agro-processing.

“Our estimates show that every housing unit can create at least 12 direct jobs, with many more indirect jobs across the value chain,” he said. “This is how development becomes inclusive and scalable.”

He added that the programme is structured to attract investment from the private sector, pension funds, and development finance institutions, stressing that execution and visible results will ultimately determine its success.

As implementation begins, officials said the project is expected to serve as a model for other states, demonstrating how coordinated planning, private capital, and asset optimisation can deliver food security, jobs, and improved living standards simultaneously.

“This is about doing development differently,” Bago said. “Not promises, but practical solutions that change lives.”

Employment for Rivers people key to development – Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stressed the importance of creating more job opportunities for residents of Rivers State, noting that such efforts will enhance human empowerment across the state.

Wike, who spoke during the commissioning of the corporate headquarters of Giolee Global Resources Limited in Port Harcourt, underscored the role of corporate social responsibility in driving development.

He commended the company’s investment, describing it as a step that supports broader economic growth and community upliftment.

He said, “When the managing director invited me to come and commission a corporate office, I was thinking it’s like a one-block building. On getting to this place, I never knew that we had such a gigantic infrastructure.”

He praised the management and staff of the company for not only establishing the business but sustaining it to the level where it now boasts a world-class facility.

“It’s one thing to establish a company, it’s one thing to run the company, manage it well, and it turns out this way,” Wike added.

The former Rivers State governor stressed the importance of government support for investors, noting that access to land documentation, such as Certificates of Occupancy, is key to business growth.

“One of the things to ease the process of making business is to make sure that those people have access by having the certificate of occupancy… for them to have access to the bank,” he recalled from his tenure in office.

Wike expressed satisfaction that Giolee Global chose to site the project in Port Harcourt rather than in Lagos or Abuja, describing the move as a boost to local employment and revenue generation.

“I’m happy with you that you did not go and establish this in Lagos or Abuja… that you have to provide this here, employ our people, and pay taxes to the government, that is an encouragement,” he said.

He also applauded the firm’s corporate social responsibility initiatives, which include the provision of a 500KVA transformer and sponsorship of school fees for 50 students.

“There are so many companies that don’t care about corporate social responsibility… you are paying school fees for 50 students, that is very, very commendable,” Wike stated.

The FCT Minister further disclosed that the company had opened its doors to science students for excursions to expose them to practical industrial experience.

“You have made it available so that students who study science can come here for an excursion and look at what it takes. That is also an encouragement to our people,” he said.

He thanked the host community for supporting the quick completion of the edifice and urged local leaders to continue creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.

In his address, the Managing Director, Giolee Gloval Resources, Lesi Mail, thanked the Minister for gracing the occasion, noting the minister’s infrastructure development strides during his time as governor and currently as the Minister of the FCT.

Maol said planned corporate social responsibilities of the company would include the provision of a 500 KVA transformer to the host community, payment of school fees of 50 graduate students, provision of employment for community youths, and allowing secondary school students to visit the facility on excursion trips.

  • Fed govt unveils ‘Nigeria House Davos’ ahead of World Economic Forum 2026

Fed govt unveils ‘Nigeria House Davos’ ahead of World Economic Forum 2026

    • …first official Nigerian national pavilion debuts on Davos Promenade
    • …platform to showcase reforms, attract investment and deepen global partnerships

The federal government has announced the establishment of Nigeria House Davos, a landmark national platform that will make its debut during the 56th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) scheduled for January 19–23, 2026, in Davos.

The initiative, unveiled ahead of the global economic gathering, marks Nigeria’s first official National House on the Davos Promenade and signals a strategic step in projecting the country’s economic reforms, investment readiness, institutional capacity and cultural identity on the world stage.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the Director of Information and Public Relations at the State House, Abiodun Oladunjoye, Nigeria House Davos is designed to strengthen foreign direct investment inflows, deepen strategic partnerships and reinforce Nigeria’s global economic positioning in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Officials said the platform reflects a deliberate shift in Nigeria’s engagement with the international economic community, enabling the country to present its reform narrative directly to global leaders, investors and policymakers, rather than through third-party lenses.

By joining the league of nations that deploy national houses at Davos, Nigeria aims to deploy economic diplomacy and soft power more effectively in support of growth and investment.

Nigeria House Davos is being delivered through a Public–Private Partnership framework involving key government institutions, including the Federal Ministries of Industry, Trade and Investment; Finance; and Foreign Affairs, working in collaboration with the private sector.

Eviola & Co Integrated Services Ltd is serving as the lead coordinating and executing organisation, in consortium with Lex-Con Advisory Services Ltd and UFAM Services Nigeria Ltd, alongside international technical and delivery partners.

The organisers said the structure blends public-sector leadership with private-sector execution expertise, ensuring a professional, credible and impactful national presence throughout the five-day forum.

During the World Economic Forum, Nigeria House Davos will function as a sovereign convening platform for ministerial engagements, high-level roundtables, policy dialogues, investment meetings, cultural diplomacy and strategic bilateral discussions.

Its programme will span five thematic days focusing on solid minerals and mining value chains; trade infrastructure and agriculture; climate investment, energy and environmental sustainability; digital trade and technology; creative economy and cultural exports; as well as cross-sector convergence.

Finance, legislation, investment security and investor assurance are expected to be integrated across all discussions, reinforcing Nigeria’s reform credentials and its commitment to creating a predictable and investor-friendly environment.

For decades, leading nations and multinational corporations have leveraged Davos Houses as tools of global influence, economic storytelling and strategic engagement.

With Nigeria House Davos, the federal government stated that Nigeria is now positioning itself as a serious, reform-driven economy, open to partnerships and long-term investment.

The Presidency has encouraged active participation by relevant public institutions, the private sector, development finance institutions, and international partners to ensure that Nigeria’s first appearance on the Davos Promenade is unified, dignified, and impactful.

Describing the initiative as a statement of national confidence, officials said Nigeria House Davos reflects the country’s ambition and readiness to engage the world, while presenting Nigeria’s story with clarity, credibility, and purpose.
