ADP’s presidential candidate vows to tackle poverty, security

Alhaji Yabagi Yusuf-Sani, the presidential candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), has promised to tackle poverty and insecurity if elected in the upcoming elections.

Yusuf-Sani said during a campaign rally in Bida yesterday that he would address insecurity and poverty if Nigerians would vote for him during the polls.

He said: “I will tackle insecurity head-on to pave way for economic growth and development of this great country. We will support farmers, activate dams, provide agricultural input, provide sound and qualitative education and also fight criminality.”

The candidate assured the electorate that if Nigerians voted for him and his running mate, Dr Okey Udo, they would tackle the country’s economic challenges for the country to move forward.

He added: “Their administration will enhance the security situation and the economy to boost business activities.”

He said that their party had determined to move the country forward and called on Nigerians to come out en masse to vote for the party’s candidates.

Yusuf-Sani promised to address unemployment for the nation to move forward. He said: “I will do everything humanly possible to create more jobs to accommodate a large number of our unemployed graduates.

“We are the credible alternative. We know the pains of Nigerians and the solutions. We will harness Nigeria’s large gas deposits, sand and windmills as well as hydro power to create employment as a solution to insecurity. Your vote for ADP is a vote for Nigeria. Vote for ADP, don’t waste your vote.”

There is nothing like Igbo president, says Orji Kalu

Senate Chief Whip and former Abia State governor, Orji Kalu said yesterday that there is nothing like the Igbo presidency as widely propagated by political analysts.

This comes on the heels of calls by some political elites to support Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, who they believe will unite Nigeria since he is of Igbo extraction (the only region that has not produced Nigeria’s president since transitioning to democracy).

He said, “there can only be a Nigerian president of Igbo extraction,” adding that he is only loyal to his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This was his submission while featuring on Arise TV’s morning show, which was monitored in Lagos.

The former Abia governor also faulted claims of in-fighting in the ruling party following the Naira redesign policy.

APC candidate is the best, says Akeredolu

Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has described the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sen. Bola Tinubu, as the best candidate for the nation’s top job.

Akeredolu spoke in Akure, the Ondo State capital yesterday at the inauguration of the third edition of the book titled, “Bola Tinubu: Treading the path of our founding fathers”.

The governor said the book was highly useful for expansive leadership.

Akeredolu, who was represented by his deputy. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, said the APC was blessed to have a courageous leader such as Tinubu as its presidential flagbearer in the coming general election.

The 220-page book has 19 chapters which centre mainly on Tinubu alongside the founding fathers of the nation such as Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Nnamdi Azikwe, as well as Ahmadu Bello.

The book also tracked the depth of knowledge on governance issues, tenacity of purpose and how inspiring they have been to people in politics.

The governor said: “Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has continued to inspire other people, both old, young and in the corporate environment across the country. This political season reminds us that our heritage is what binds us together as a people.

“The title of the book is apt especially as we approach the General election. Tinubu has similar attributes with late Obafemi Awolowo and other founding fathers which the book has done justice to.”

The author of the book, a legal practitioner, Omofunmilewa Adejombo, said it incorporated Tinubu’s political, economic and philanthropic attainments as governor of Lagos State and after his exit as governor.

He further said the book was a review of the earlier ones published in 2003 and 2011.

“The book is just a way of expressing our support, a way of putting in black and white, the activities, the efforts of Tinubu in ensuring that true democracy is enthroned in Nigeria,” he added.

The Chief of Staff to the governor, Chief Olugbenga Ale, and the former Chief Judge of Ondo State, Mr Olaseinde Kumuyi, did the book review and book presentation respectively.

The building is located at No 2 Rashidi Street, off Sofuye Street, Ilasa Bus Stop, Oshodi-Mile 2 Express Road, opposite Inanimate, Itire Bus Stop, Lagos State.

Okafor said he donated the building to enable the group to project the interest of the party, as well as the election of the APC National Leader, Bola Tinubu.

Fashola assures of robust infrastructure under Tinubu, if elected

Minister of Works and Housing Babatunde Fashola, has said that the country will witness massive infrastructural development if the presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, is elected.

Fashola, who is also the Director of the Election Planning and Monitoring Directorate of APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), gave the assurance yesterday in Abuja.

Fashola spoke at a strategic pre-election engagement with some members of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Yoruba Community for Tinubu.

The minister said the infrastructure development report card of the APC-led administration in the last eight years is self-evident and fulfilment of the promises made by the party to Nigerians in 2015 and 2019.

Fashola noted that the President Muhammadu Buhari/APC-led administration changed the face of the entire FCT and the nation in spite of a global economic downturn compared with the 16 years of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP).

He said: “The country stands to witness a more robust and well-co-ordinated infrastructural development in line with the renewed hope agenda of our presidential candidate, Sen. BolaTinubu.

“Our scorecard in the last eight years or there about is self-evident of a promise made, promise kept, and this is a virtue that set Tinubu ahead of the pack.”

Fashola urged leaders and members of the Yoruba community in the FCT to vote en masse for the APC presidential candidate, come Saturday.

He said Tinubu’s antecedents as a former two-term governor in Lagos State remain a barometer for measuring good governance in the country.

He also charged the people to go out of the wards in the six Area Councils of the FCT to educate the electorate, especially the younger ones to vote for Tinubu.

This, he said, is critical for the continuity of the laudable and people-centred projects and programmes of the APC-led administration.

The convener of the programme and representative of FCT Yoruba Women, Ms Simi Fajemirokun, charged members of the community to go all out and vote for Tinubu and Sen. Kashim Shettima, his running mate.

Fajemirokun said: “The Yoruba vote is very important. We have a Yoruba candidate who is Tinubu, it is important to show our strength as a community, as a people, and as a tribe.

“It is a huge opportunity and it is important to shore up our strength. The Yorubas operate as a community and we are going out with our families to vote.

“We are not an individualistic tribe, based on our culture, we are going to go out to vote for our candidate. Being the second largest tribe in the FCT after the Hausas, we are going to ensure we deliver the Tinubu-Shettima ticket on Saturday.”

Mr Adedayo Benjamin-Laniyi, APC Senatorial aspirant for FCT, and Director of NGOs APC PCC for FCT stressed the need for Nigerians to rise above sentiments to work for victory at the poll for Tinubu.

He said Tinubu and Shetima represent dedication and will work for the common goal of all Nigerians in an uncommon way. He said: “The task at hand in the FCT is to deliver the Tinubu/Shetima candidacy. Tinubu is the Yoruba agenda in FCT.

“There is no other message today than for God to direct the Yoruba agenda.”

  • Theme: You shall return to dust!

Theme: You shall return to dust!

Text: “…..Set thine house in order; for thou shalt die….” – 2 Kings 20:1

    By Venerable Henry O. Adelegan

Death is an unavoidable contract that everyone had entered into because dust shall return to dust (Hebrew 9:27). Therefore, either claimed or rejected (as many ignorantly do), everyone has an appointment with death, mindless of age, state of health, wealth, political power, anointing or spiritual giftings, except those that are alive at His second coming (Psalms 89:48; cf 1Thess. 4:16-17). Everything that had a beginning must surely come to an end – a new cloth will become a rag, an agile young boy will depreciate to a weak old man, a new vehicle will end in a mechanic’s yard, a new house will become outdated, marriage will become history, certificates shall be useless and the people in power shall be out of office one day (Ecclesiastes 12:3-7; Job 7:1).

After God had assisted the less powerful King Hezekiah of Judah to defeat the more powerful and boastful King Sennacherib of Assyria (2Kings 19:8-13, 35), He sent the highly revered Prophet Isaiah to King Hezekiah on his sick bed that he should set his house in order because he would surely die. That message made the king distraught hence he turned away from the prophet and cried to God for elongation of his life. God heard his cries and added an additional fifteen years to him (2 Kings 20:2-6). Eventually, (in 2 Kings 20:21), the Bible recorded it that, King Hezekiah died. This is to remind us that there is a time and season for everything, among which is a time to be born and a time to die (Ecclesiastes 3:1,2) – you shall return to dust!

Like King Hezekiah, virtually every person, chiefly the economically and politically privileged in our land, are willing to do everything to stay here, and in power, till eternity and continue to enjoy the bliss and comfort of life. It is consequent on this that people with the financial wherewithal expend lots money on first class medicare and some are enslaved to spiritual marabouts, all in their bid to escape death. Despite all their futile efforts geared at running away from death, when the time of death’s visitation comes, it rushes in like a fiery wind and visits its victims mindless of palpable fear, struggles, humongous wealth, privileged position in the society, spiritual standing and the retinue of prayer warriors at their becks and calls (2 Peter 3:10).

One of the messages of today’s Ash Wednesday, which signposts the flag off of a 40 day fasting season, is to remind everyone about the temporality of this world and that “…… dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return” (Genesis 3:19) and the expediency of setting our houses in order. This is suffice to say that we shall all return to the starting point of our lives one day- dust! On Ash Wednesday, the palm-fronds from the previous Palm Sunday are burnt and administered on the forehead of every believer as a reminder that nothing lasts forever.

At such a time in our country where there is increasing wide polarity between the rich and the poor, where the dividends of democracy are not evenly distributed, where promises made by people placed in positions of authority are shamefacedly broken, where our words are no longer our bonds, a season of political desperations to assume political office in our country, a time when the world has departed from the waiting room of patience and are now of microwave orientation; a time when we have abandoned the path of diligence at places of assignment and pitched camps with whatever course that will bring in money, power and recognition which have made many to relocate from the pavilion of discipline to the citadel of shameless behavior. We are very unfortunately in a dire time within our space of pervasive wealth without work, pleasure without conscience, knowledge without character, commerce without morality, science without humanity, religion without sacrifice and politics without principle.

The Almighty God is calling on all political gladiators to remembrance on this auspicious day even as we prepare for the coming elections that death will come for us one day and that we shall then give account of our stewardship (Haggai 1:5). This presupposes the fact that no matter how long you occupy any position or live in this world, one day will come when you shall give account of the stewardship of your time, talents, money, position and work before the Almighty God (Romans 14:10). It is possible to be ‘smart’ and escape the judgment of the land, pervert justice and buy the right of other people from the Tribunal to the Appeal Court and the Supreme Court, but when all ends here and you get ‘there’, there is no retinue of learned silks that can defend you before the Almighty God (Job 9:3). God will give everyone according to his/her works (Rev. 22:12). If you fire arrow to the sky and cover your body with mortar, the king of this world might turn a blind eye or not even see you, but you can be assured that the King who sits in heaven and has the earth as his footstool sees (Isaiah 66:1) – dust you are!

It is therefore instructive to note that nothing will last forever because man shall return to his creator – “dust thou art and to dust thou shall return” (selah!). The only thing that will last till eternity is who you belong to (Christ or self), your good works and how you have used your means to impact positively on the society (Matthew 25:30). This season of fasting is a time for introspection, soberness, re-examination, repentance and change. It is a time for the political cum religious class and leaders to return to God in repentance for their overt and covert acts as well as their schemes and actions; it is a season for everyone to eat the humble pie, close ranks, ask God for mercy and change our ways to the path of righteousness so that God does not remove our candlesticks abruptly and take it off in the middle of our ages (Rev. 2:5).

As you humble yourselves at such a time dear beloved in Christ, as you take your gaze away from the temporality of this world, as you engage more in selfless services to God and humanity, as you remain more resolute on love for one another, as you are more dedicated to charity works, as you continue to live a life of holiness and maintain peace towards all, please be assured that the Almighty God shall continue to bless you and when your time is up here, you shall be acceptable before Him and welcomed with pomp and pageantry to receive your crown of glory, in Jesus’ name

Prayer: Oh Lord, give me grace to live a life that is pleasing to you so that when I see you at last, I shall be accepted by you as a child that has lived well in Jesus’ name.

“The vision is to use automation to build the biggest digital government in Africa where no political party, president, governor would be corrupt.

‘’Our platform, www.futureornigeria.com is helping in one way or the other. The Central Bank of Nigeria has emphasised that the N1000 and N500 notes are no longer legal tender. This adds more pressure to voters ahead of 2023 elections.

“Vote buying is a bane in Nigerian politics and Nwachukwu urged the electorate to vote their conscience and reject bribe offered for votes on election day.”

In conclusion, Jordyn said: “Nigerians must reject bribe from politicians and vote for any presidential candidate who supports the future of Nigeria. To support any presidential candidate who can fight corruption with technology and who wants a corrupt free country”
