How we killed our wives, four others, buried them in shallow graves —Suspected kidnappers

    By Uja Emmanuel, Makurdi

The police in Benue State are investigating two secondary school dropouts described by the force as notorious kidnappers. The arrest of the two suspects has led to the discovery of a mass grave in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area where they buried their deceased victims.

Twenty-three-year-old Aondoaseer Terseer a.k.a. Bob Tsetse and his 22-year-old partner, Orkashima David a.k.a. Cash-money, were arrested in Osun State where they had fled to after their alleged killing, kidnapping and armed robbery activities carried out in Mbamon, Tavachan and Michiche wards of Katsina-Ala LGA.

•One of the abandoned wells where they buried their deceased victims to conceal their nefarious activities.

The two suspects, regarded as members of a ten-man syndicate, took policemen round to uncover shallow graves as well as dry or abandoned wells where they buried their deceased victims to conceal their nefarious activities.

Among the six decomposing bodies uncovered were those of three males and three females, two of whom were said to be the suspects’ own wives they killed by themselves in January and April this year.

Among the victims whose decomposing bodies were recovered from the dry wells were Hon. John Nyitamen, Madam Catherine Akiishi and Aondoverb Fidelix, while the bodies of the suspects’ wives were found in shallow graves.

Asked why they killed their wives, Terseer said he threw a piece of wood at his wife during an argument and it pierced her neck while David said his wife’s death was instigated by his father who called security agents over an allegation that his wife was trying to burn his (father’s) house.

David said with the help of two other members of their gang, they killed his wife and buried her in a shallow grave.

A Chief Superintendent of Police, Gberindyer, who confirmed the arrest of the suspects, said that efforts were on to arrest the suspect’s father who allegedly instigated his son to kill his wife.

The suspects gave the names of some of their gang members as Umangu Ihuman alias Aka, Agwe alias Banga, Aondover Ihom alias D’ver, Luper and Yaryon alias Snake. They, however, said that four other members of the gang had been killed.

The suspects also claimed to be working for ‘Azonto’, a former second in command to the notorious Benue militia Gana, who is believed to be responsible for many of the kidnappings and killing of security agents in the Sankera axis of the state.

The Deputy Chairman of Katsina-Ala Local Government Council, Hon. Agba Thomas, said justice would be served in respect of the two suspects believed to have made life unbearable and farming activities impossible in their sphere of operation, adding that this would bring succor to families who had long been searching for the remains of their loved ones.

The Public Relations Officer of the Benue State Police Command, Catherine Anene, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said the two suspects were in their custody and would be prosecuted once investigation was concluded as the new Commissioner of Police, Audu Madaki, has vowed to fish out all criminal elements constituting threats to lives and property in the state.

Afenifere to Buhari: restructure Nigeria before 2023 poll

    By Ernest Nwokolo, Abeokuta

Pan Yoruba socio-political group Afenifere on Friday called on President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure the nation is restructured before the 2023 general elections.

Its acting leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, who made the call after the group’s meeting at his Ogbo country home in Odogbolu Local Government Area of Ogun State, said Nigeria cannot afford to hold the 2023 elections without restructuring.

The nonagenarian noted only restructuring could guarantee the continuous unity of Nigeria, warning if the flawed and lopsided federal system persists amid cacophony of agitations, the constituent parts may no other option save to demand “to thy tent oh Israel.”

Adebanjo said: “We urge Buhari to bury the idea of holding election before returning to federalism by restructuring the country.

“There must be a country before elections are held, it would be patriotic of him to heed this advice. If Gen. Buhari is sincere about keeping the country together, he must restructure the country now this is the only answer to halt the disintegration of the country. To save Nigeria, restructure the country now.

“Failure to adhere to this principle has been the cause of the instability that has plagued our country since Independence.

Our consistent advocacy for the restructuring of the country to federalism is based on the founding philosophy of the party.

“It is for this reason that the founding leader of the party is known as the father of federalism in Nigeria.

“It is the only political system that can keep the country together in peace. It is mischievous for President Buhari’s government to accuse advocates of restructuring as secessionist and separatists.”

While declaring support for the decisions of the Southern Governors in their efforts towards tackling insecurity facing the country, Adebanjo said: “Afenifere welcomes and endorse fully the resolution of the Southern Governors Forum.

“And we hope Gen. Buhari in the interest of Nigeria unity, peace, tranquility and economic progress give serious attention to the recommendation”.

    $56m fraud: Yau Kumo isn’t Buhari’s son-in-law, says Presidency

    By Bolaji Ogundele, Abuja

The Presidency has dissociated President Muhammadu Buhari from Gimba Yau Kumo, who was recently declared wanted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in connection with a $56 million fraud.

Some national dailies and online media platforms had claimed that Yau Kumo was a son-in-law of President Muhammadu Buhari, having allegedly been married to one of his daughters, Fatima, since 2016.

However, in a statement on Friday night by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, the Presidency described the attempt to link the alleged fraudster as “an attempt to generate views and sell copies of sensational reporting”.

According to the statement, the alleged suspect was indeed married to an unnamed member of the President’s family, but clarified that the said marriage ended sometime back.

Addressing the supposed relationship between President Buhari and the alleged suspect, the Presidency noted the ongoing prosecution move by the ICPC only supports the authenticity of the administration’s fight against corruption, not minding who is involved.

“A running story to the effect that the ICPC has declared “an inlaw of the President” wanted in connection with fraud involving the large sum of money , USD65 million to be exact.

“This should normally be an affirmation that our anti-corruption agencies/institutions are truly independent and allowed unfettered freedom by the President. Which infact is the case.

“That a state institution can issue such is a measure of the administration’s commitment to accountability, equality and justice.

“To set the records straight, the person declared wanted by the ICPC is not an inlaw to President Buhari.

“While at some point in time the said fugitive from justice had been linked to a family member in marriage, that relationship has ended some years ago.

“It is therefore unfortunate to bring the President’s family into this case.It is in our view an attempt to generate views and sell copies of sensational reporting.

“The President’s position at all times is that the law be allowed to take its course. As is well known of him, President Muhammadu Buhari will not provide any cover for crime, no matter who is involved,” the statement reads.

  • Amazing practices of the Arabs

    Amazing practices of the Arabs

    By Uwaifo Faith Abiodun

The world just celebrated Eid-Al-fitr, a Muslim holiday aimed at celebrating the completion of Ramadan (the Muslim month of fasting).

Islam originated from the Arabs who have amazing cultures. They pride themselves in their great hospitality, which is quite true for example; a stranger can appear in the home of an Arab uninvited and will be welcomed.

The host provides the stranger with food and shelter for 72 hours, only after three days is the host allowed to question the presence of his strange guest. This gesture emanates from the Bedouin culture and has been passed down from generation to generation.

The Arabs say the guest comes first, so they take time in taking good care of guests. It is then considered shameful not to offer food to guests in Arab homes, so it is normal to get laden with food when you visit an Arab home, they get to dress you the way they are and can even share their farm produce with you.

The Arabs are so hospitable that you cannot pay the bills of anything you buy, your host insists on paying the bills.

We cannot deny that even here in Nigeria, our Muslim brothers and sisters are similar concerning hospitality, anyone who has lived among the Muslims before can attest to this fact.

They care not only for guests but also for the poor and the needy. We hope that this celebration of Eid-Al-Fitr will bring to the remembrance of our brothers what the celebration stands for.
