MC Oluomo builds Mosque in mother’s honour

    Our Reporter

The Chairman, Nigeria Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Lagos State Council, Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya, has built a mosque beside his Ejigbo residence in honour of his late mother, Alhaji Zinat Abebi Omotonwo.

The mosque was unveiled on Friday to mark the one year remembrance of his mother.

Alhaji Akinsanya said the gesture was meant to be a Sadaqah Jaariyah (a charity with long-term reward).

“Our various Islamic scholars have made us realised that whoever wants to honour his parents, let him give charity on their behalf, for the reward of charity will reach the deceased and benefit them. This mosque is my own little way of honouring my late mum. She truly deserves more than this. I pray Allah accepts as an act of Ibadah and make the rewards to reach her,” he said.

Speaking at the event, the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, hailed Akinsanya for the initiative.

The monarch prayed that his (Akinsanya’s) children will also honour him.

Oba Akanbi, who described religion as the backbone of politics, urged politicians to be upright in governance as they are in practicing their religion.

“As a politician that wants to practice religion, stop deceiving people by promising what you cannot do, Islam does not permit that”, he said

The guest lecturer, Sheikh Muhydeen Ajani Bello, commended MC Oluomo for building a mosque during Ramadan, adding that this would help true believers to worship God.

“From what Oluomo is doing today, I can say that he really loves his mother. He has done well by building a mosque for his mother. Automatically, the reward of that particular mosque will come from Allah and Allah will reward him”, he said.

Don’t judge people by social media posts, says Lawal

    By Adeniyi Adewoyin

Moyo Lawal has warned fans and social media buffs not to judge people by their social media posts.

The curvy actress noted that social media posts do not define a person saying people do a lot of horrible things behind closed doors but disguise themselves on social media.

“If by now, you still haven’t learned that a person’s image has almost nothing to do with their true personality, I don’t know what to tell you. A lot of people forget social media is just a digital tool that allows users to share (controlled) content with the public.

“Too many horrible things going on behind closed doors but because we live in an image-conscious society, we all will continue to suffer and it is not stopping anytime soon, no matter the outrage. This our society, so far you don’t do it outside you are fine,” she said.

The actress also advised that parents should endeavour to teach children and youngsters about true value and integrity without being watched.

  • How to win the war on insecurity

How to win the war on insecurity

    By Chidozie Acholonu

SIR: Across Nigeria, the recurring commentary has been the concerns over terror and insecurity perpetrated by non-state violent groups. In the northeast, the Boko Haram and affiliated jihadists are waging a high-level insurgency that has claimed thousands of lives and displaced millions; gangs of gunmen called, ‘bandits,’ are killing and kidnapping hundreds of civilians and children in Northwest. And in the North-central, Southwest and Northwest, killer herdsmen are running amok on a killing and kidnapping spree. Then in the Southeast and South-south, unknown gunmen, suspected to be from the Eastern Security Network or ESN (from the Indigenous People of Biafra), are brazenly attacking security installations and killing law enforcement and military personnel.

So the question then is, can Nigeria win the war on insecurity against violent armed groups that skilfully exploit our security gaps and divisions as a country? The answer is yes we can, if, we adopt a “Grand Strategy.” Peter Layton defined Grand Strategy as “the art of developing and applying diverse forms of power in an effective and efficient way to try to purposefully change the relationship existing between two or more intelligent and adaptive entities. Grand strategy is now a distinctive, stand-alone expression. Grand strategy can no longer be confused or conflated with others such as statecraft, foreign policy, or even strategy.

In adopting a grand strategy, Nigeria must first clearly define its objectives for winning against the adversaries being fought. This means that a one size fits all cannot be applied against the different groups Nigeria is fighting. To succeed, the Nigerian government needs to understand the adversaries, their principal weaknesses and their strengths in relation to its strengths and weaknesses. This will require Nigeria to quickly conduct a nationwide threat assessment, to determine the overall threat landscape, root causes, the actors, weaknesses, gaps, strengths of the adversaries and Nigeria, as well as remedies moving forward.

Second, the Nigerian government must adopt a comprehensive whole-of-nation approach to counter the activities, change the narratives from their adversaries and win the hearts and minds of the people. This requires mobilizing all the influential and respected people in the country, across the ethnic groups, to work with the federal and state governments to proffer inclusive solutions, including amending the constitution. Targeting development activity to the most vulnerable groups and communities, irrespective of ethnicity. Maintaining schemes that address poverty, a prominent example being the Covid-19 cash schemes and agriculture schemes. These measures are very popular and must be done as a matter of time and urgency.

The third part of the grand strategy involves allocating a higher percentage of GDP to defence and security by increasing the armed forces and law enforcement budget. Increasing the security and defence budget will allow the army, in particular, to expand from 100,000 to 500,000, while the police can expand from 350,000 to one million, with the right recruitment drive and investment. The capacity of the country to counter internal security threats can also be increased, by developing state guards (vigilantes), manned by trained armed villagers to reinforce the security forces with their numbers. To sustain the manpower required, significant investment in resources must be made to increase the salary, welfare, healthcare and housing needs of the recruits. The government would also need to appoint an independent watchdog with subpoena and sanction power to oversee the budget expenditure to avoid corruption. These measures would significantly boost the morale and patriotism of the nation fighting men and women.

The grand strategy will allow the Nigerian government to maximize its strengths and take back the initiative. In short to make the job on no state actors as hazardous and as unattractive as possible while returning strategic advantage to the government. Indeed Nigeria is confronted with a stark reality and to succeed Nigerians must be clear-eyed that the grand strategy will require great sacrifices today to win tomorrow.

“I swear I just wanna love one girl and move on,” were the words of 21-year-old singer Divine ‘Rema’ Ikubor as he turned 21.

The Jonzin/Mavins act confessed while expressing his thoughts on women and long-life partnership.

Rema went further to say he doesn’t intend to sleep around with too many girls despite being young because such a move will not only violate his energy but breed disrespect all in the name of sex.

The rave singer also noted that he would neither be needing cult or professional securities for protection because God has been sufficient for him in the past years. “I am where I am today because of God, his grace, and his favour covers me, therefore I shall lick no ass. I don’t need cult or security for protection who wan fight me to make he come Angel Micheal dey my gate!”

Rema, who is yet to feature any music act on his song – but has been featured by several music stars – won the Headies Next Rated Award in 2019.

“How will an OG win awards one year and because he didn’t win the awards the next year they say he’s falling off? Why? For not doing what he already did? That’s stupid. Niggas listen to that shit and kill themselves in the studio trying to prove what they already proved! Wake up!

“His lyrics are childish” Yes! I’m young fucking let me grow, if I start spitting all the bars now what will spit when I’m 30 years old, I barely write music let me have a collection of experiences and chat real shit from my heart! Many niggas sing about shit they don’t do!”

The ‘Iron Man’ star went further to advise fans and youngsters saying ‘too many youths get depressed and commit suicide because they want to be rich and famous early.’ He urged youths to ignore peer or societal pressure and remain patient.
