JAGACEO Otsemobor loves the creative sector with a passion having been exposed to it from a very tender stage. The energetic rapper , who is also the son of popular actress , Shan George takes you into his world, future plans and more.
First he goes down memory lane recalling his experience in the sector and the things that make him tick.“ For me, I would say that the experience has been like everything in life. There has been good and bad moments as well as ups and downs”.
Now, you want to know what influenced Jagaceo to move his creative mind into music, instead of acting like his mum and he replies this way. “ I guess I was listening to too many songs rather than watching too many movies”, he replies humourously.
Happily he goes down memory lane to talk about the other things that he shares in common with his mum especially the physical attributes. “My mum is a very hardworking and wonderful woman and some of the things I share in common with her is her complexion and soft palms”.
As a rapper , he has carved a niche for himself and he believes that there are still going to be so many memorable moments in the future. “It’s been very exciting and interesting each time I look back to recall one or two moments on stage. There was a time I was performing at the Calabar carnival and I was whining my waist and another very interesting moment was at the Lost Music Festival where I had this very long dreads from nowhere.”
In his kitty, Jagaceo has a number of creative songs in the works and he has released songs with FLOWSSICK, GHETTO P & SHAYDEE amongst others. “ I am also the manager of a children play tent when I am not doing music. Here I make sure that the children are safe, all equipments are working and that the workers are on point. That basically is what my work with children entails”.
Looking back, it has been a story of the good , the bad and the ugly. Instead of getting angry about the tough times , he prefers to learn from such lessons and restrategise to make a difference.
“Over time I have learnt not to put all my eggs in one basket. In this case that would be “do only music” or perhaps have to do something on the side. Or do music on the side. Along the line, I also learnt that the lifestyle these artists portray is untrue. So, I have to manouvre carefully so as not to be deceived or deluding myself in a way. Also I will be releasing an Ep or mixtape soon but I haven’t thought of a name for it yet . I have songs to put on it”, he informed.
Some of the ideas, he informed came from his background as well as knowledge garnered in school. “I studied Music Culture: Theory and Production. This is basically the historics of sound and how to manufacture and manipulate it”.
Motivating and inspiring his peers give Jagaceo an opportunity to excel on the job. “ The environment is tough and many are discouraged. I think they should not give up no matter the odds. I will also tell them to go to school and don’t do drugs. I also believe strongly in them and I know that the impact that they have made over the years is good, great impact. If you look around, you would find so many dance moves and so many new songs. It’s overwhelming in a good way”.
Jagaceo is very optimistic about his future in the sector and he hopes to touch the lives of others as he moves up the ladder. “I hope to be compensated in regards to my music career”.
Next he goes on to talk about some of the things that he treasures most in life. “ My laptop will be number one. My phone and my custom made clothes would definitely come next”.
Even though he hasn’t made achievements in all directions, he opines that young people should never give up on their dreams. “ Investing hard earned money into music is a challenge. This should not be a deterrent. Another will be, dealing with the people in place with the ability to boost ones music career. There are so many talents out there and what they need is support and direction”.
Talking about inspiration, Jagaceo looks out for those who have conquered their world, learning a few things and applying them to his daily activity. “I like legends like Fela Kuti, Bob Marley, Snoop Dogg, Jay z. amongst others. Legendary is top of the line for me, I like top of the line”.
To live a balance life, Jagaceo takes time to focus properly on his creative sides as well as find time to relax regularly. “Well, I do a little exercise and watch movies to refresh myself. I also read books on ideas and inspiration regularly”.
Relaxation and comes with sometime to inspire and he says: “ I use a bottle of wine to relax”.
