  • Peter Owoola shares story behind Oloriaye

Peter Owoola shares story behind Oloriaye

United Kingdom-based Nigerian gospel singer Peter Owoola has revealed the inspiration behind his new song, ‘Oloriaye,’ meaning the one who owns the heavens and the earth.

In a recent chat, Owoola described how the song came to him unexpectedly while he was on a bus during his university days in Nigeria. Owoola recalls that he was in his 300-level at university when he first received the song.

“I can be anywhere—on the bus, in my house—and just worship. Worship brings joy, a joy that cannot be explained,” he said.

Though he had composed many songs before, Owoola said ‘Oloriaye’ felt different.

“I kept singing it through my 300 and 400-level days. Unlike other songs I had written for choirs, I held onto this one.”

The song, Owoola explained, is deeply rooted in biblical references.

“The Bible says God sits in heaven and makes the earth His footstool. Oloriaye is about acknowledging that God is the ruler over all creation,” he said.

Owoola shared that recording the song was not easy saying, “Every time I tried to record, something would stop it. But when I moved to the UK, God made a way. I found a team, and this time, everything fell into place.

“The devil is always interested in what God is interested in. If God has a plan for something, the enemy will try to fight it,” he said.

Although Owoola has composed numerous gospel songs, ‘Oloriaye’ stands out because of how it came to him.

“Most of my songs were written in choir rehearsals, but this one came in a moment of deep worship. It wasn’t something I planned; God gave it to me. Every time I sing it, it carries the same anointing, the same power. That’s how I know it is from God.”

How I mysteriously became Sarauniya of Uke Kingdom, by Tayo Sobola

Nollywood actress, Tayo Sobola, has shared the unexpected and mysterious circumstances that led to her being crowned the Sarauniya (Queen Mother) of Uke Kingdom in Nasarawa State.

In a chat with The Nation, she recounted how what started as a simple charity visit turned into a life-changing moment.

“I didn’t pick myself, nor did I know anything about it,” she explained. “I was invited to join a charity mission in Uke by an acquaintance who visited my shop in Abuja. He pleaded with me to come along, and I agreed. I simply picked an outfit from my collection, wore it, and left for Nasarawa.”

Sobola revealed that upon arrival at the Emir’s palace, she and her team sat waiting for the Emir to appear. While waiting, she noticed an intense conversation between her companion and another man but paid little attention to it. Soon after, the Emir emerged and unexpectedly invited her to sit beside him.

She noticed people gathering, speaking in a language she did not understand. Then, the Emir made an announcement that she would not be leaving the palace until she was bestowed with the title of Sarauniya.

Confused and taken aback, Sotayo, as she’s fondly called, sought an explanation. “Apparently, where I sat down upon entering the palace was the seat of the former Sarauniya, and the kingdom had been waiting for years for a stranger to come and unknowingly occupy the seat,” she recounted. “Each time a visitor entered the palace, the palace soothsayer would consult the spirits to determine if the person was the destined successor. That day, it turned out to be me.”
