  • Why I regretted my review of Jazzy’s Burger – Opeyemi Famakin

Why I regretted my review of Jazzy’s Burger – Opeyemi Famakin

Food critic Opeyemi Famakin has expressed regret over the backlash following his 2023 review of Jazzy’s Burger, a business owned by music mogul Don Jazzy.

In an interview on the With Chude podcast, Famakin reflected on the emotional toll the controversy took on him, especially given his admiration for Don Jazzy.

He clarified that his review was intended as constructive feedback to help improve the business, not as a personal critique of Don Jazzy.

Famakin commended Don Jazzy’s positive response to the review, noting that the entrepreneur took the feedback in stride and implemented changes to his burger business.

However, the food critic admitted that the online backlash misrepresented his intentions, which deeply affected him.

“It hurt because I only wanted to help the brand grow,” he said.

Famakin reiterated the value of honest feedback in fostering business growth and affirmed his commitment to delivering constructive criticism, even when it proves unpopular.

He said: “I did not like my review of Don Jazzy’s business, Jazzy Burger. That was one of two reviews, along with the tea room restaurant, that I didn’t feel very bad about. In this whole world, it’s just those two. Jazzy is a businessman, a very positive person who was minding his business. But I wasn’t being malicious; it was the internet that took it out of context.

“I simply did a review, and I wasn’t even bashing him. I said the things I liked and didn’t like, and he responded and worked on the things I mentioned, and I reviewed it again.

“The way it trended and the backlash made it feel like I was coming for this honest person who is an angel and helps people. It felt like I was chasing clout, but I was doing it to help his business, and he listened. The specific things I asked him to work on, he did. But everyone else online was being so nice about it; how would he have grown? They were lying to him, and how would he have known?”

“That one pained me because I love Don Jazzy, and he’d have felt like I was a clout chaser who wanted to ruin his business. It pained me.”

  • Court orders Mercy Chinwo manager’s arrest

Court orders Mercy Chinwo manager’s arrest

A Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, granted a warrant of arrest against Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, the manager of gospel singer Mercy Chinwo, on Thursday.

Justice Alexander Owoeye issued the order following a motion ex parte brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) seeking the manager’s arrest.

When the case was called on Thursday, Mrs Bilikisu Buhari announced her appearance for the EFCC.

Buhari informed the court of an application brought by the EFCC pursuant to Section 35(1)(c) of the 1999 Constitution and Sections 35, 36, 37, 38, and 39 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015.

The counsel consequently moved the application seeking an order to issue a warrant of arrest against the manager.

She stated that the warrant would compel the manager’s appearance in court to answer to the criminal offences he allegedly committed.

Buhari submitted that if the commission was unable to arrest the manager, it would bring a public summons to declare him wanted.

The court granted the application and adjourned the case until 24 January for the arraignment of the manager.

In an affidavit in support of the application, the EFCC averred that it received a petition from Chinwo against the manager.

The affidavit was deposed by Mr Michael Idoko, an investigator with the commission.

It averred that the gospel singer alleged that the manager was receiving royalties from all her digital platforms and events without disclosure.

According to the EFCC, the gospel singer claimed that the manager diverted about 345,000 dollars without remitting her share.

It stated that efforts to arrest the manager had failed, necessitating the application for a warrant of arrest.

The court adjourned the case until 24 January for the arraignment of the manager.

He said in an interview: “I killed her because we don’t have each other all the time, it’s not something I planned. It happened on that day and it happened. Not that I have the plan in mind, she was cheating. She hides most of the things from me most time. I got to know from her phone. I saw her chats with other guys on the phone, that was why I decided.

“No. I don’t have any regrets because life is reciprocal, that is what I thought. If you must do something to someone, you have to be reciprocal with that person. You have to understand what that person is going through so that you can actually put yourself in the position that the person is going through, that is why I don’t have any regrets because we were actually compatible.”

  • Spyro, Ubi Franklin bicker over alleged $5,000 fraud

Spyro, Ubi Franklin bicker over alleged $5,000 fraud

Singer Spyro has alleged music executive Ubi Franklin used Davido’s name to scam him.

In an interview on Echoo Room podcast, Spyro claimed Ubi Franklin approached him to perform at an event, claiming Davido had invited him and would get $5,000.

However, Spyro clarified Davido had no knowledge of the arrangement.

He said: “I have an issue with Ubi Franklin. Ubi was one of the people I ‘respected’. Ubi just came down and said David said we should come perform at the birthday party that he was invited to that he was going to give us 5k. I called him to the side and said ‘bro first of all, I don’t charge 5k.’ My Nigerian currency wey I dey charge, the least I would do is N20 million.

“On getting there, David was on stage, he came back from the stage and Ubi just came to me, he said ‘you’re going on the stage now’ before you know it, MC don announce, Spyro! And right after, I said okay Ubi, shebi you don sha make me, I don perform now, where my money wey you say David say him go give us?

“He said ‘no don’t go and buzz David o, he’s not the one actually, let me tell you the truth, he’s not the one that said you guys should come and do the show’. I was like are you kidding me? So David doesn’t even know anything about this, so you just used David’s name, this is broad daylight scam bro!”

He countered Spyro owes him N10.5 million, being 10% of the cost of a car he helped Spyro purchase.

Ubi Franklin demanded that Spyro pays the owed commission and offered to settle the debt by offsetting the $5,000 he’s holding.

He said: “I will not allow anyone to destroy my name. And please, it’s time you all stop trying to use David’s name to make your story sweet or get people to pay attention to your story.

“Why would I tell David’s friend who is a growing artiste that David said when I know you have direct links to him? How does this make sense?

“I don’t even understand this at all and gullible people will believe ( I have never used David to take anything from anyone ) you want to use me to start your PR for the year, it’s not me cos a lot is at stake and I won’t let you do that.

“Pay me my 10% from the car I helped you buy and told you to pay me my 10% you said I should wait till you finish paying. I know you have finished paying since December. Kindly credit me the balance cos I have 5k dollars meant for you and you have N10.5m meant for me. If we do plus and minus, you owe me N2.5million cos 5k Dollars is 8m.”
