Lagoke unveils Bloom Recordz to support emerging artists

Nigerian entrepreneur, author, and IT consultant Solomon Lagoke has officially unveiled a new music imprint, Bloom Recordz, a platform aimed at nurturing young talent and promoting creativity in the country’s growing entertainment industry.

Lagoke, who hails from Ijebu Ode in Ogun State, said the label was born out of a long-held desire to create opportunities for promising musicians.

Speaking about his background, he explained that his values and vision were shaped largely by his mother and extended family, describing his early years as “a pretty normal childhood with strong family influence.”

Before venturing into entertainment, Lagoke worked in technology and authored several books, but his passion for music remained constant. “Music has always been a part of my life,” he said. “Now, entering the entertainment scene is my way of providing talented individuals with the opportunities to thrive.”

According to him, the concept for Bloom Recordz had been in development for about four years. “A friend initially suggested it, and we joked about it, but it stuck with me,” he recounted. “The name Bloom represents growth and the beauty found in music.”

Lagoke described the label’s vision as one focused on diversity and development. “The goal is to build a global music platform that represents modern artists from across the world,” he noted.

He said Bloom Recordz would emphasize talent discovery, artist development, and digital growth. “We’ll use social media, streaming platforms, and digital campaigns to promote our artists and reach wider audiences,” he said.

When asked about what makes a good artist–label partnership, he highlighted transparency and teamwork. “It’s about mutual respect, clear communication, and shared goals,” Lagoke explained. “Both the label and the artist need to understand each other’s vision.”

He added that the label is assembling a professional team of producers, marketing experts, A&R executives, and legal advisers to ensure a transparent and artist-friendly structure. “We want to provide proper guidance, fair contracts, and career support,” he said.

Although the label has not yet announced its first signees, Lagoke said talks are ongoing with several emerging acts. “We’re actively looking for unique sounds and voices,” he revealed.

On the label’s long-term goals, Lagoke said he envisions Bloom Recordz becoming one of Africa’s leading independent record labels within five years. “We want to be recognized for discovering and supporting top talent and promoting ethical standards in the music business,” he said.

He also emphasized his desire to contribute to the growth of the Nigerian and African music industries. “I want to leave a legacy of empowering artists and promoting diverse musical voices,” he added.

Bloom Recordz has opened its communication channels to artists, fans, and potential collaborators. Interested individuals can contact the label via email at bloomrecordz

Lagoke encouraged young creatives to remain authentic and consistent. “Stay true to your craft and never stop improving. The industry can be tough, but passion and perseverance always stand out,” he said.

BBNaija’s Adekunle thanks Lagos police for action in alleged brutality case

Big Brother Naija star Adekunle has shared an update on his recent encounter with police brutality.

In a lengthy post on X, Adekunle expressed gratitude to the Lagos State Police Command’s Complaint Response Unit for their prompt action and investigation into his case.

He wrote: “In the last few days, the only news you’ve heard from me has been difficult, but at this very moment, I would like to share some good news with you.

“I want to use this opportunity to thank The Lagos State Police Command Complaint Response Unit for their prompt attention to this matter. From reaching out, swinging into action the moment the news broke, and following up to make sure everything was okay”.

Adekunle praised the efforts of ACP Oluyemisi Ojo, who led the investigation, and urged citizens to report any cases of police brutality.

The reality star revealed that the police officers involved in the incident have been found and disciplinary action has been taken against them.

He continued: “I have been in talks with the ACP in charge of the Area J Command, Elemoro, Ibeju Lekki, providing her with all the details necessary with hopes that the officers at fault would be found and brought to book.

“I am happy to let you know that I just left the Elemoro Police Station and thanks to the effort and investigation of ACP Oluyemisi Ojo, the police officers were found, and disciplinary action has been taken against them.

“Justice has been served! I can’t begin to describe how much of a heavy burden and emotional weight has been lifted off my shoulders. The mere fact that justice can be served at a time where public trust for the police is very low is truly encouraging.

“For everyone who has ever been treated badly at the hands of police officers, please make sure you report the case. Get as much evidence as you can and take the matter up. The Lagos State Complaint Response Unit (on Instagram) works, and their job is to ensure the safety of the citizens while also sanitizing the system of the bad officers.

“I shouldn’t have experienced what I went through, and neither should any Nigerian simply going about their business. I know I am lucky, but also, I was innocent. We are approaching the celebratory season.

“PLEASE BE CAREFUL. While there are good officers out there, the bad ones exist also. While celebrating, be mindful of your surroundings and remember the potential risks. Harassment is unacceptable, and no one deserves to go through all that”.

Adekunle’s post comes after he was allegedly assaulted by police officers, and he has been sharing his experience to raise awareness about police brutality.

The former Big Brother Naija housemate thanked his fans for their support and prayers, saying it’s a blessing to know he’s not alone.

He added: “For all the messages, calls, prayers, and outpouring of love and support I received, I am truly grateful. It is indeed a blessing to know that I was not alone during this period and that there will always be people to rise up and stand with you when it truly matters.

“Thank you everyone, God bless you. Now it’s time to focus on being me again”.

  • Don’t relegate parental role to children who are breadwinners – Biodun Stephen urges

Don’t relegate parental role to children who are breadwinners – Biodun Stephen urges

Renowned filmmaker Biodun Stephen has advised parents not to relinquish their authority to their children, even when the children become the primary breadwinners.

In a recent social media post, Stephen emphasised that a child’s financial contribution to the family should not blur parental boundaries or diminish the role of good parenting.

According to Stephen, parents should maintain discipline and guidance, regardless of whether the child is the breadwinner or not.

She wrote, “Poverty does not diminish the role of good parenting. That your child is the breadwinner doesn’t mean the baton of parenting is now the child’s, as long as the said child, under the law and your household rules, is still recognised as a child.”

She noted that life’s circumstances may lead to children becoming the primary providers, but this should not lead parents to abdicate their responsibilities.

“Of course, life happens such that the child may become the breadwinner, it doesn’t mean as parents we dance to the tune of that child forgetting our roles in the first place”, she continued.

Stephen’s advice follows a documentary she watched, which highlighted how parents often lose their moral authority once a child begins to provide for the family.

She urged parents to play their role effectively, regardless of financial circumstances.

“Saw a documentary that triggered me so, and I see how this plays out here, even on SM Street. Parents, play your role regardless”, she added.

Nigerian music legend 2Face Idibia has opened up about the bitter-sweet nature of his hit song “African Queen”.

The 2004 classic catapulted him to international fame, earning him numerous awards and cementing his status as one of Africa’s biggest music exports.

  • Chiwetalu Agu urges women to build independence before marriage

Chiwetalu Agu urges women to build independence before marriage

Veteran actor Chiwetalu Agu has urged women to achieve full personal stability, mentally, physically, spiritually and financially before entering marriage.

Agu, via an Instagram video, emphasised that a woman’s completeness should never depend on being married.

He stressed that marriage should complement a woman’s life, not define or complete it.

Agu said: “The best advice I can give you as a lady before you embark on the journey of marriage is be a complete woman before you marry. Establish yourself as a woman before you marry. Make sure you are mentally, physically, spiritually and financially stable before you marry.

“Emphasis on financially and spiritually stable. It is not marriage that completes you as a woman. Your work, identity or sense of completeness as a woman does not depend on being married.

“You don’t need marriage to feel whole, valuable or fulfilled. Marriage should complement you, not complete you. Marriage should be a beautiful addition, not a missing piece”.

He advised women to establish their own identity, career, or business, even if small, to avoid vulnerability in difficult situations such as divorce, widowhood, or hostile in-laws.

“Before you marry, build yourself up. Even if you are not financially stable, at least make sure you have something doing. At least make sure you have a handwork.

“At least make sure you have a business idea or a proper insight of what being independent is all about”, he added.

Agu warned that relying entirely on a husband for emotional, social, or financial support can leave a woman helpless if that support is withdrawn.

He highlighted the harsh realities faced by widows, divorced women, and single mothers in society, noting that in-laws may strip a widow of her late husband’s assets if she has no foundation of her own.

“God forbid if you marry into a family where your in-laws don’t like you and you have nothing to bring to the table, then sorry will be your name. God forbid if your husband divorces you over a small misunderstanding and you are not stable in any way.

Read Also: Chiwetalu Agu: Hard work, not just prayers, ends poverty

“My dear, you will have to start life all over again because you leave with nothing. God forbid your husband dies and you have nothing of your own. If your in-laws happen to be a wicked set of people, they will strip you of everything your husband left for you.

“A huge reminder that society is cruel to widows. A huge reminder that the world is unkind to divorced women. A huge reminder that the universe often mistreats single mothers”, he said.

The actor encouraged women to prioritise self-development, independence, and self-worth, stating that seeing marriage as the ultimate goal often leads to settling for less and limiting personal growth.

He said: “The earlier you open your eyes to establish your brand, your identity, your dreams, and your strength as a woman, the better for you. It’s self-development, independence, and self-worth to form a relationship. When a woman wholly relies on a man emotionally, socially, or financially, she becomes vulnerable to losing her sense of self-stability and control over her life.

“If the man withdraws his support emotionally, physically, or financially, she may find herself helpless. A woman who sees marriage as her ultimate goal is likely to lose her sense of purpose, settle for less than she deserves, and limit her personal growth. The choices and decisions you make today determine what your tomorrow will be like”.

He concluded by reinforcing that the choices made today shape tomorrow’s outcomes, and urged women to enter marriage as already whole individuals.

In a statement on Instagram, Uche Montana denied allegations that linked her to Regina’s drug-related issues, stating that she has no involvement or connection to the situation.

She wrote: “I wasn’t going to say anything, but I feel it’s important to clear the air. My attention has been drawn to a circulating post that appears to link my name to certain claims.

“For clarity, I have no involvement or connection to the situation described. This note is simply to set the record straight and protect my peace”.

The controversy began when Ned Nwoko accused Regina Daniels’ colleagues, including Uche Montana, of undermining rehabilitation by bringing her the same drugs she was being treated for.

“Unfortunately, Sammy, Destiny, some of their siblings, together with a few of their friends, notably Uche Montana among others, constantly defied those instructions. Instead of helping her recover, they encouraged her addiction and completely frustrated the efforts of the doctors and therapists working with her,” he alleged.

However, Uche Montana, on Monday morning, denied these allegations, stating that she is focused on her career and peace.
