    Epe chair sponsors summer coaching

    The Chairman, Epe Local Government Area of Lagos State, Princess Surah Animashaun, has distributed books and other writing materials to students in her council area at the ongoing free summer lessons she organised for them.

    She made the distribution during the kick-off of the summer lesson on Monday.

    According to her, the programme would run simultaneously across four strategic learning centres; which include St. Theresa Primary School, St. Michael Primary School, Community Primary School, Erepoto, and Zumuratu Islamia Primary School, all within Epe Local Government Area of the state.

    Princess Animashaun explained that the free summer lessons for students across all the wards of the council were initiated to encourage youths to take education as an important tool for development.

    She noted that education remains one undefeated tool to liberate the mind of the upcoming generation and to set them on a path that they would be fit to take on the challenges of life as well as devise solution to life issues ranging from finance, technology, health, governance and other facets of life.

    While describing education as the key to the future, the Chairperson urged the students to take education seriously to their own advantage and national development.

    She said: “This programme is designed to keep young minds actively engaged during the holiday period, reinforce their academic foundation, boost their confidence, and prepare them for excellence in the forthcoming academic session.

    “So, we encourage parents and guardians to take full advantage of this golden opportunity by ensuring their wards attended the centre nearest to them. Together, let us continue to lay the groundwork for an enlightened, capable, and responsible generation.”

    She, however, called for more government investment in education, just as she appealed to corporate and private organisations to also join hands with the government to move the sector forward.

    “I believe education is the most important tool you can receive, that can bring you most success in society today. Education lessens the challenges you would face in life.

    “The more knowledge you gain, the more opportunities will open up to allow individuals to achieve better positions in career and personal growth,” she said.

    The Chairman of the Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area, Seyi Jakande, has appointed Taiwo Ogungbe as his Chief of Staff.

    The appointment, he said, would bolster his administration, aligning the council’s leadership with its vision for community development and effective governance.

    Ogungbe, an event management specialist and Chief Executive Officer of Unique Events, holds a bachelor’s degree in Banking and Finance from Olabisi Onabanjo University.

    Jakande said Ogungbe’s background showcases a strong commitment to excellence in management, accountability, and outstanding organisational skills.

    “With a unique combination of business insight and a passion for public service, Ogungbe is ideally suited to assist in realising our administration’s objectives,” he said.

    “The appointment of Ogungbe as my Chief of Staff underscores our dedication to assembling a strong and capable team focused on the advancement of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye, in line with my HEWA Agenda,” he said.

    Ikeja organises holiday job scheme for 230 youths

    The Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Akeem Dauda, has launched a two-month holiday job programme aimed at engaging and empowering over 200 secondary school students and undergraduates during their school break.

    The initiative, which enrolled 230 participants, was designed to reduce youth idleness, promote discipline, and provide mentorship to young people through direct involvement in local government operations.

    Each participant will receive a stipend of N20,000 for their efforts at the end of each month.

    Dauda emphasised the importance of guiding the younger generation and giving them a sense of purpose.

    “We realised that many of our youths are on the streets during the holidays, playing football or just wasting precious time. So, we felt it was important to bring them into our system through holiday jobs. This way, we give them direction from the grassroots and teach them how to lead from scratch,” he said.

    He also urged the participants to be disciplined and professional in their conduct.

     “They must obey, be neat, and wear the symbol of Ikeja Local Government with pride. They are now ambassadors of this local government,” he added.

    According to the council boss,  the goal is not only to occupy young minds productively but also to shape future leaders through real-life work experience and exposure to civic responsibility.

    One of the beneficiaries, Bolaji, a student of Lead University, expressed appreciation for the opportunity.

     “I applied to improve my knowledge, especially in language learning.

    This programme empowers both undergraduates and teenagers. It’s truly the best opportunity for future planners like me,” he said.

    Another participant, Afeez Bakare,shared how the initiative is helping him use his waiting period productively while seeking academic placement.

    “It’s helping us build confidence and improve our interaction with people. I thank the chairman for setting this up just a few days into his administration. It shows he cares about the youth,” he said.

    The Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO) has commenced a Free Medical Outreach across communities in the state.

    This is part of efforts to provide accessible healthcare to residents and build a healthy environment.

    Wife of the Governor of Lagos State and Chairman Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO), Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu at the kick-off held at GOS Ground, Mushin, stated that the medical outreach is as part of activities lined up to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the National Women’s Conference of COWLSO with a special gift to various communities.

    Dr. Sanwo-Olu explained that COWLSO is a community-based gender organization established to complement the efforts of the the State Government through various welfare and charitable initiatives for the development and growth of the state, adding that the National Women’s Conference of COWLSO organized annually in the last 25 years has provided a platform to frontally address various challenges facing women.

    According to her, “Through the National Women’s Conference, we have been consistent in empowering and supporting women in becoming independent and realizing their full potentials,even as we believe this will further assist them, their families, our communities”

    She pointed out that the theme for this free medical outreach “Healthy for All: Bridging Gaps, building a Healthy Future” further highlights the efforts of COWLSO towards building a safe and healthy environment for all citizens, emphasizing that the Free Medical Outreach will commence at Mushin from the 5th – 6th of August, while same free health screening opportunity will also hold at Aiyetoro Primary Health Care Centre, Makoko, from the 19th – 20th of August.

    “We intend to round off this great initiative at the final destination, Epe Recreation Centre, Epe from September 2nd to 3rd, 2025,” she added

    The Governor’s wife explained that the medical outreach will cover free screenings and medical consultations on Hypertension, Diabetes Mellitus, Hepatitis B&C, TB, Eye Check, Cervical and Breast Screening, Dental Screening and health education from the team of medical experts at the designated locations.

    Dr. Sanwo-Olu while acknowledging efforts of the government to improve and reposition the health sector for effective and efficient service delivery, encouraged Lagosians to prioritize their health by adopting healthy lifestyles including regular exercise, consuming more fruits and vegetables, reducing salt and sugar intake, and maintaining healthy body weight, among others.

    Dr. Sanwo-Olu concluded by appreciating the laudable interventions by the First Lady of Nigeria, Sen Oluremi Tinubu, through the Renewed Hope Initiative which has continued to positively transform lives across the federation through key programmes in health, education, agriculture, social investment and economic empowerment, thereby assuring that the government in collaboration with COWLSO will not relent in its efforts towards continually putting measures in place to ensure inclusive, prompt and effective healthcare services to residents across the State

    Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Hon. Tunbosun Aruwe thanked COWLSO for the great initiative poised to improve the health conditions of residents, emphasizing that the humanitarian gesture would enable residents access quality healthcare across the environs.

    The Chairman of Iba Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Jubril Yisa, has opened a newly constructed block of eight classrooms at L.A. Primary School, Ijagemo.

    He described the event as a milestone in the council’s commitment to education and community development.

    He described the facility as a symbol of progress and opportunity for the Ijagemo community.

    “This is more than just the unveiling of bricks and mortar. Today marks a significant step in our collective commitment to improving the standard of education in our community. These classrooms symbolize opportunity, access, dignity, and a future we are building together,” he said.

    The council boss emphasized that education remains the bedrock of national development, stressing the need for a safe and conducive learning environment for children to thrive.

    “With this block of eight classrooms, we are saying yes to quality education and yes to every child who dreams of a better tomorrow,” he said

    He acknowledged the efforts of all stakeholders involved in the execution of the project, from the local government administration and contractors to community leaders and parents, for their roles in making the vision a reality.

    “To the teachers, you are the heart of this institution. These classrooms are your new tools, and we trust that you will use them to continue molding the minds of the next generation with excellence and care,” he added.

    He urged the school and community to ensure proper maintenance of the facility and called for continued advocacy for more educational resources.

    “To our dear pupils, this is for you. Learn with passion, dream big, and know that your community believes in you,” he said.

    The Oto-Awori Local Council Development Area (LCDA) had proclaimed the 6th Legislative Assembly, marking a new phase in grassroots governance and community development.

    At the swearing-in held at the Council Secretariat, Executive Chairman, Oto-Awori LCDA, Kareem Abiodun, congratulated the lawmakers and described the inauguration as the start of a new chapter.

    He urged councillors to collaborate with the executive arm to achieve tangible development.

    “We must work in unity to implement projects and policies that directly benefit our people. There’s no room for excuses, the goal is to make Oto-Awori great again,” he said.

    Vice-Chairman of the LCDA, Moses Aina, emphasised the importance of research and grassroots engagement.

    He urged the councillors to take their duties seriously.

    The newly elected Council Leader, Sulaimon Awoyemi, pledged to lead with integrity and uphold the trust of the people.

    “Our commitment to transparency, accountability, and results. We are resolved to address the needs of our people and ensure every voice is heard,” he said.

    He urged councillors to remain focused, embrace their legislative responsibilities, and resist distractions.

    Member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Surajudeen Olatunji, advised the councillors to remain diligent and uncompromising in their legislative duties.

    “Legislative business is serious work. The people are watching, and they deserve nothing but honest service,” he said.

    Chairman of Ejigbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Aare Taoheed Adebayo Taiwo (T.A.T), has formally sworn in the newly elected councillors of the 6th Legislative Council at the Legislative Chamber, Ejigbo.

    T.A.T has fondly called by admirers congratulated the councillors on their victory at the polls, describing their emergence as a clear demonstration of public trust.

    He urged them to see their new role not as a reward, but as a call to service.

    He said: “This swearing-in is not just a formality, It is a reminder that our people are watching, and they expect results.     “The newly inaugurated councillors, who represent the six political wards within Ejigbo LCDA, will uphold the constitution and discharge their duties with integrity, diligence, and accountability,” he said.

    However, Oluwaseyi Sobande of Ilamoshe Ward emerged as Leader of the Legislative Arm, while  Idowu Hazzan of Aigbaka Ward was elected as Deputy Leader.

    The Lagos State Government has welcomed participants of the Senior Executive Course (SEC 47, Group 2) of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Plateau State, for a five-day local study tour centered on the theme: “Blue Economy and Sustainable Development: Issues, Challenges and Opportunities.”

    Speaking during the opening held at the Folarin Coker Hall, Alausa Secretariat, on behalf of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, the Secretary to the State Government, ‘Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, described Lagos as Nigeria’s heartbeat and Africa’s economic gateway, expressing confidence that the visit would offer valuable insights into the state’s ongoing efforts to harness its maritime potential.

    “This is Lagos—the city that never sleeps. A state of aquatic splendor, the largest economy in Nigeria and the fifth largest in Africa. His remarks set the tone for subsequent presentations from heads of key Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), including the Ministries of the Environment and Water Resources; Energy and Mineral Resources; and the Office of Sustainable Development Goals.

    He reminded the newly elected chairmen that their election was not to build personal empires or operate in political isolation, but to serve, lead with empathy, and achieve tangible results in line with the vision of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

    He pointed out that the first-term chairmen should keep in mind that their legacy will be defined over the next one thousand four hundred and sixty-one days, particularly during the crucial six hundred days leading up to the 2027 general elections urging them to utilise the time wisely and serve with urgency and honour.

    He advised second-term chairmen to maintain their progress and emphasised that now is not the time to relax.

    He said: “They should increase their efforts, bridge existing gaps, and regain the trust of their constituents with renewed vigour. For those whose previous tenure was marked by poor performance, absenteeism, and neglect of the community, this new mandate is not a trophy, but a final chance to right those wrongs.”

    Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has inaugurated councillors, with a renewed pledge to deliver inclusive governance, transparent legislation, and development across all wards.

    The swearing-in ceremony, held at the council secretariat was presided over by the Executive Chairman, Sulaimon Kazeem, who charged the councillors to uphold the trust of their constituents and ensure unity within the Sixth Legislative Assembly.

    The  Council Leader, Jessica Oba, emphazised the need for collaboration and peace across legislative and executive arms.

    “This Sixth Legislative Assembly must work in unity. We owe our communities development that reflects their real needs, ward by ward,” she said.

    Oba, who previously served in the last legislative cycle and as a local government supervisor, reiterated her focus on Ipakodo Ward, promising to align her legislative agenda with community priorities.

    Deputy Leader of the House Ehinyerimini Batife representing Majidun Ward, also pledged stronger engagement with the grassroots and increased performance in the new term.

    “The first term was a learning curve. Now, we are better prepared to deliver. The people of Majidun and Ikorodu West can expect real results,” he said.

    Batife announced plans to engage Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on developmental needs in underserved areas like Ogolonto, stressing the importance of humility and strategic partnerships.
