    Council begins road construction

    The Chairman of Coker-Aguda Local Government Council Development Area (LCDA), Razak Ibrahim, has begun the construction of Awe Street,.

    According to him, the construction of the road will serve as a significant impact to the economy of the residents

    He said the economic situation in the community will witness an intense growth.

    He stated that other roads built by the council and are linked to other settlements have improved economy of the community

    The Council boss added that the road construction is another way of laying foundation for the development of other sectors apart from the economic prosperity.

    He said that business will not blossom as long as there is bad road and people will stay away from it and not transport on the road. He stated that this is more of the reason to focus more on road infrastructure to ensure that business thrive and transportation can be done freely on the roads.

    According to him, the council will continue to provide good and quality infrastructure for the people.

    ‘Drainage system II’ mitigate flooding’

    The Chairman of Iba Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Jubril Yisa, has said that the constructed drainage system will not only mitigate the risk of flooding but also safeguard the ecosystem for future generations.

    He made this statement at the inauguration of the newly constructed interlocked road with twin drainage systems at Seriki Street, Kemberi, Iba.

    The council boss stated that the event marks a milestone in the community’s journey towards progress and development.

    He reminded the residents that the project was constructed within six months to bring to fruition the promise  at the stakeholders’ meeting.

    He appreciated all those involved in bringing the project into reality, from the engineers, to the community members who offered support and patience throughout the process.

    Member, Lagos State House of Assembly, Olusegun Ege, urged all to support the chairman to enable him do more in the council area.

    He also enjoined them to see the road as blessing and opportunity as it is a linked road from Iba Lcda to Ojo LG which would boost their businesses.

    The Council Manager, Mr. Olufemi Babalola, lauded the chairman for a job well-done and also advised the beneficiaries to use the road in a manner that will make it last .

    Famuyiwa assures of more investment on education

    The Chairman of Agbado/Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area, David Famuyiwa, has assured pupils in the council of more investment in the education sector to enable then reach their full potential.

    The council boss gave this assurance during the Children’s Day held at the council secretariat for children in the LCDA.

    Famuyiwa said: “We will continue to invest heavily in education, healthcare, and other key social infrastructure that will help our children thrive and prosper. We believe that education is a powerful tool that can empower children to break free from the cycle of poverty and play significant roles in shaping the future of our community. That is why we will continue to prioritize the protection and welfare of our children. We are committed to providing safe and child-friendly environments, both in schools and in our communities.”

    The council chief also reeled out some of his achievements on education, saying “Over the past year, we have implemented various programs aimed at enhancing the educational and recreational facilities available to our children. We have invested in school infrastructure, such as renovation of some primary schools, construction of perimeter fences, provision of water facilities and toilets, provision of learning materials such as desks and chairs, bags and books,  distribution of free GCE and JAMB forms to brilliant and indigent students. We have organized numerous activities to ensure that our children receive a well-rounded education”.

    The event was a beehive of activities as the children trooped in numbers and was thrilled with various games and competitions. The event commenced with match pass followed by cultural display and climaxed with fashion parades which saw several schools and groups won several gift prizes.

    Children thrilled themselves on the various recreational facilities made available at the premises.

    Vice Chairman of the council, Alhaja Aminat Obe, who doubles as the Supervisor of Education, commended the children for their various display and wished them success in their endeavours.

    She assured them of a bigger and better celebration in 2025.

    ‘Lagos council Discount Market will go a long way’

    Badagry Local Government Chairman, Mr Olusegun Onilude has been praised for the establishment of the discount market code named “Ounje Eko” in the area.

     Most of the shoppers who thronged the council secretariat, venue of the “Ounje Eko Discount “ market organised by the local government, hailed Mr Onilude for what  they described as his magnanimity to bring staple food items such as rice, beans, gari, bread, fish, livestock and vegetable oil within the reach of the common people at subsidised rates.

         Madam Cecilia Akotomeh and Mrs Amaka Chukwura, who appreciated the ‘generosity of the council chairman’, said that the subsidised staple food items by the Onilude administration would go a long way in solving the high cost of food items in the council area.

     Earlier in his address  at the opening of the Onilude Discount Food Market, Onilude reiterated the commitment of his administration to improve the welfare of the residents of the local government. He thanked the governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo – Olu for the” Ounje Eko” Discount Market Initiative.

     Onilude pointed out that the critical economic situation in the country demanded a lot from all the three tiers of government to find ways of reducing the effect of the hardships being faced by the people.

     “The time we are demands a lot from us as a government in cushioning the effects of the economic hardships occasioned by the fuel subsidy removal and this is why we put this together to complement the efforts of the Lagos State Government in providing succour and relief to the people through the sales of food stuff at discounted rates”, he said.

    Lagos empowers 13,500 in rural communities

    The Lagos State Government has empowered 13,500 residents through its Short Term Skill Acquisition Programme.

    The four-week programme is an empowerment scheme with the goal of alleviating the challenges faced by indigent residents through skill acquisition and sundry vocational trainings.

    Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs. Bolaji Dada, said this during the ongoing Ministerial Press Briefing to mark the first year anniversary of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second term in office at Alausa, Ikeja.

    She said beneficiaries are residents – vulnerable women particularly those in rural communities, parents of out of school children, artisans, retirees, faith based groups, etc. – who were all trained in various vocations of their interest to enable them take care of their families and contribute meaningfully in the society thereby reducing unemployment .

    Mrs Dada said: “In order to promote women focused programmes through our various initiatives as well as delivering on our mandates on intervention programmes, citizens are trained and supported with startup packs in different skills of their choice.

    “There are 19 Skills Acquisition Centres across three Senatorial Districts of the state with 20 vocation taught-courses ranging from hair and wig making, barbing, soap, pomade, insecticide production, tie & dye, cake, snacks and beverages production etc., and our courses are handled by professional instructors.

    “The locations of the centres are in IBILE – Isheri Olowora, Badagry Division, Ikeja, Lagos Island and Epe-Division – and you can walk in and make inquiries.”

    According to her, the Poverty Alleviation Department of the Ministry has well over 2,000 beneficiaries empowered through the Micro Enterprises Support Initiative programme.

    She said the MWAPA has aligned programmes with the T.H.E.M.E.S.+ Agenda of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration to promote social inclusion by ensuring that no one is left out in the economic cold.

    “Within departments/units of the ministry, we have effectively delivered on various poverty alleviation programmes, women focused programmes, gender based Violence advocacy Programme, Skills Acquisitions Programmes, Non-Governmental Organisation sensitisation and many others.

    “Let me reemphasise here that all our programmes/vocations are obtained for FREE,” Dada said.

    In all, the commissioner also said the ministry was able to record 4,592 students graduands in the period under review while over 16,900 students also graduated specifically from 20 Skills Acquisition Centres in Lagos.

    Furthermore, the ministry, she said, has continued to provide enabling environment for all students as the centres are well equipped with modern equipment to ensure the students thrive in their vocations.

    Mrs Dada said the ministry had trained 450 women on cassava planting, cultivation process, branding and processing while another 450 received training in snailery, as well as cucumber and watermelon production.

    In another capacity building training, “300 women were trained in Catfish Rearing and marketing during a collaboration with GIZ/Nigerian Institute for Oceanography and Marine Research.

    “We will continue to encourage partnership/synergy, we’re leveraging on various Civil Societies bodies, United Nations, MDAs such as Ministry of Health for medical screenings/ productive training and awareness programme of our women because we believe that good health is good wealth,” she said.

    The Chairman of Surulere Local Government Area, Sulaiman Yusuf, has re affirmed his commitment to the development of the community.

    He stated this during the commencement of Ayinde Giwa/Oyekan road.

    Speaking at the event, Yusuf stated that the project’s aim is to enhance connectivity and eradicate the flood in the community during the raining season.

    He, however, enjoined the contractor handling the project to ensure quality materials were used for the project.

    This, he said, would make it to stand the test of time

    The council boss appealed to the residents that there will be some level of pains but lot of gains at the end for all parties.

    He emphasised on the need for the residents to support the contractors throughout the duration of the project.

    An engineer, Sola Ajose, assured the council boss of good quality work and ensured that the project will be completed within the stipulated time.

    He stated that all necessary material have been provided to ensure swift and efficient delivery.

    The Chairman of Coker-Aguda Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Rasaq Ibrahim, has donated learning materials to public primary and secondary schools in the council.

    The council boss stated that his administration’s commitment to promoting education and excellence aimed at advancing the vision of students and intensifying investment in the education sector.

    The materials given to the people include chairs and tables, lunch box, first aid box, and public address system.

    “This is part of what we promised their parents during the electioneering period. The chairs and tables belong to the teachers; the Public Address System (PAS) is for the school while the First Aid box is for the pupils in case anyone of them sustains an injury, first aid treatment will be administered to such person. We provided them all that to make their educational pursuit easier,” he said.

    A teacher at Orile-Iganmu Nursery and Primary school, Aminat Adele, said she was excited about the development, adding that the support would enhance learning and teaching process.

    A beneficiary, Okpara Divine, applauded the chairman for his kind gesture. Another beneficiary, Faith Nnenna, added that she loved what she saw and lauded the chairman’s effort for providing them with the materials.

    The Chairman of Iru/ Victoria Island Local Government Area, Princess Rasheedat Adu, has distributed N25 million cash palliatives to 500 indigents traders.

    Princess Adu noted that this is the fourth edition of her cash palliatives scheme to indigents citizens for them to be financially stable and elevate their standards of living at this crucial time.

    She stated in her speech that her administration had empowered people in different dimensions,ranging from the distribution of food palliatives to cash gifts.

     She added that her administration had also successfully executed the first, second, and third editions of the cash palliative scheme. 

    The council boss stated that her administration had empowered 500 indigent traders with a total sum of N25 million of which each beneficiary received a cash gift of N50,000 to boost their trading activities.

    She reiterated that she will continue to put smiles on the faces of her people,while she ensured that their well being and progress remain her priority.

    Princess Adu implored the beneficiaries to use the cash gifts judiciously to boost their businesses

    She also added that a monitoring team has been delegated to ensure the proper utilisation of the money by the beneficiaries.

    A beneficiary, Mrs.Ashabi Yusuf, on behalf of all the beneficiaries, applauded the chairman for the cash gifts given to them. She also prayed for more progress of the council.

    The Executive Chairman of Eti-Osa Local Government Area, Saheed Bankole, has officially commenced the construction of Bankole Agunbiade/Agunbiade Street in Aro Town.

    The construction of the road, which spans an impressive length of 450 linear meters, is being undertaken by Babkaz Construction Limited.

    The council boss said that this is in tandem with the Lagos State Government administration’s initiative to create milestone infrastructural developments in all the 20 LGs and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDA) in Lagos State.

    He expressed his delight at the commencement of this vital project, emphasising its importance in enhancing connectivity, improving transportation, and uplifting the overall quality of life for residents and businesses in Aro Town and its environs.

    Bankole said: “I extend my gratitude to all stakeholders involved in making this project a reality and hereby reaffirm my administration’s dedication to executing more impactful initiatives for the benefit of Eti-Osa Local Government residents.”

    A stakeholders meeting was initially held with the residents and stakeholders of Aro town, introducing the contractor to the residents.

    The council boss urged the contractors to involve the community in having a stake in the development of their neighbourhood, which he said, will create room for continuous synergy amongst all parties involved.

    Members of the community expressed their sincere appreciation to Bankole for his continuous efforts to ensure every citizen enjoys the dividends of democracy.

    Igando-Ikotun kicks off road project at Egan

    In fulfilment of his campaign promises, the Chairman of Igando-Ikotun Local Council Development Area (LCCA), Comrade Lasisi Akinsanya, has kicked off a road construction at Oyisa Street, in Egan Community within the area.

    The council helmsman advised residents of the community not to disturb the contractor and his team while on site, adding that it is one of the 114 roads put forward for construction by the state and local governments across the 57 councils in Lagos State.

    He said: “All hands must be on deck to ensure a successful road construction in our community. I belong here and a good job must be done here. I also implore the contractor to give us a good job. We must give him maximum cooperation to do his job.”

    Akinsanya thanked all the stakeholders for coming out to support the road project. He also appealed to those whose houses were marked for demolition by the contractors to cooperate and vacate the places to achieve success in no time.

    The Vice Chairman of the LCDA, Mrs. Mojisola Badmus, hailed the chairman for his commitment to the welfare of the people and for insisting that the construction should start from Oyisa Street. Badmus, who is also the Supervisor for Works, enjoined residents to appreciate the chairman’s good gesture.

    Alakesan of Akesan, Oba Nojeemdeen Abidemi Aberejo congratulated residents of the Oyisa community and expressed the hope to see such projects in other communities in the council.
