    Council seeks stakeholders’ cooperation on road construction

    Chairman of Ifelodun Local Council Development Area, Olufemi Okeowo, has urged stakeholders to cooperate with the contractor handling Adegboyega/Edidi Street/Edidi Lane in order to deliver quality and durable job.

    Okeowo said that the decision to choose Adegboyega, Edidi Street/ Edidi Lane for repair is to save the entire community from incessant flood.

    “The 114- road is the initiative of the Lagos State Government under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to embark on two road construction where the residents were experiencing major drainage and erosion challenges. The entire Alafia Dodoro community will heave a sigh of relief after the construction of these roads,” he said.

    Former Chairman of the council, Taiwo Adenekan, lauded Okeowo’s actions for deeming it necessary to embark on the construction of the roads.

    According to him, it is a dream come through, especially to those who had witnessed flooding in the past.

    Leader of the House, Mrs Fatimoh Salaudeen, said the road construction will boost the economic and commercial wellbeing of the residents.

    The Director, Ebun Links Engineering Ltd, Mr John Olaoye, promised to deliver quality job that can stand the test of time within the next six months.

    He called for co-operation of the critical stakeholders in the community because they will be working in collaboration with youths, Baales, traders, artisans and others in order to achieve the desired goals.

    The Council Engineer, Ibrahim Solola, explained that the contractors will be using interlocking stone throughout and concrete to concrete drainage system.

    The Ward F Chairman, Mr Olaoye Sule, praised the council boss for bringing the project to his community.

    Youths led by Comrade Olawale Oyebanji assured the chairman that the contractors will receive maximum.

    The Councillor representing Ward F, Tosin Elijah Ilesanmi told the residents to continue to support the Chairman because he meant well for them by bringing road construction to their community.

    Road ‘ll bring development to communities, says Yisa

    The Chairman of Iba Local Council Development Area, Jubril Yisa, has assured residents of Iba that the construction of Adeniji /Isa Ibrahim streets and Mebamu Street will bring development to the communities.

    He made this known, at the inauguration of the roads construction which is part of the 114 roads to be constructed by 20 Local Governments and 37 LCDAs in Lagos State.

    Yisa lauded Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu for the initiative “This initiative will bring milestone development to residents of Adeniji and Isa Ibrahim streets in Iba and Lagos State as a whole,” he said.

    The council boss reiterated that commuters and residents are being put into consideration as alternative roads will be provided to aid smooth and easy movement for motorist.

    ‘‘Alternative roads will be provided immediately for residents, so motorists can move about without disturbance or road congestion”.

    He said: “This project reflects unwavering commitment to improving infrastructure, fostering economic growth and ensuring wellbeing of our residents.

     “The 483 metres long interlocking road, with twin drainages, culverts and streetlights marks a milestone in the history of infrastructural development in Iba,” Yisa stated.

    Ijede engages stakeholders

    The Ijede Local Council Development Area has held a stakeholders’ meeting to deliberate on the construction road in Oremeta Folashade Ibiwunmi Street.

    The Council Chairman, Motunrayo Gbadebo Alogba, said it is imperative to meet with stakeholders in the community to solicit their cooperation to facilitate a smooth and speedy work on the road.

    She enjoined residents to evacuate their vehicles and any structure that can constitute impediment to the contractor.

    The council boss said although the road is billed to be completed in six months, it can be delivered earlier if there are no distractions from the residents.

    Assuring the residents who expressed fear of demolitions of their properties, the Council Engineer, Femi Jegede, said the construction has been planned in such a way that very minimal properties would be touched as the council is also mindful of the feelings of the residents.

    The Chairman of Iba Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Jubril Yisa, has sensitised the residents on dangers of flooding and climate change.

    He made this known at the one- day sensitisation programme on climate change and flooding held at the community Town Hall, Iba.

    Yisa explained that flooding isn’t new as it’s a global disaster which is caused by human negligence.

    “The word flood in our society is no more news because it is a global disaster which either directly or indirectly is caused by human negligence or activities that has greatly impacted on human existence through climate change occasioned by the ozone layer depletion,” he said.

    He said report by experts predicted that Lagos State will experience abnormal rainfall this year.

    Yisa reiterated that residents are expected especially those into building construction to refrain from the acts that could lead to flooding such as; indiscriminate dumping of construction materials, erecting building structures within and around drainage Right – of -Ways and setbacks.

    The council boss urged residents to recognise their roles and responsibilities to prevent the occurrence of flood in the community.

    “After this sensitisation programme, we should inform the communities at large on adequate measures against flooding in our areas,” he said.

    Lagos State Commissioner for Education on Tertiary Institutions, Sule Tolani advised stakeholders to join hands with the council to wage war against human activities like bush burning, refuse burning, smoke from generators which could bring climate change and lead to flooding in our community.

    Tolani urged participants to inform others about measures to be taken to have a flood-free community.

    Deputy Director, Lagos State Ministry of the Environment, Adeola Adeoye noted that all hands have to be on deck in combating flood.

    “We should join the government in combating flood in our communities by putting an end to improper ways of refuse dumping and distilling of drainages as and when due.” he said.

    In attendance were Oniba of Iba Kingdom Oba Sulaimon Ashade; Vice Chairman of Iba LCDA Samuel Thomas; Secretary to the council Taiwo Adekanbi; Party Chairman  Jamiu Oyefolu; Council Manager Olufemi Babalola, legislators, supervisors and other stakeholders.

    Ojodu holds stakeholders’ forum on road construction

    The Ojodu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has held a stakeholders’ forum on the proposed Adeshina-Adeniyi Oke Road.

    Chairman of the council, David Odunmbaku, said the proposed reconstruction project of the road is a testament to his unwavering commitment to community development. “Through this project, we aim to not only rehabilitate the road but also enhance its infrastructure to meet the needs of our growing community. This includes widening the road, improving drainage systems, and installing adequate street lighting for enhanced safety and visibility,” he said.

    He, however, emphasised that the stakeholders’ inputs and feedbacks are crucial to the success of the project.

    He said: “Your firsthand experiences and perspectives will help us tailor our efforts to best serve the needs of the community. Therefore, I encourage each of you to actively participate in today’s discussion, share your concerns, and propose any suggestions you may have.

    The council boss hailed the participants, saying that participation and engagement showed their dedication to the betterment of the community.

    “Your input and insights are invaluable as we work together to address the challenges facing our beloved Adeshina-Adeniyi Oke road. We are all too familiar with the difficulties posed by the current state of the road. The potholes, uneven surfaces, and congestion not only impede the smooth flow of traffic but also pose safety hazards to pedestrians and motorists alike. As your elected representatives, it is our duty to address these issues and ensure that our community thrives,” he said.

    Ibeju-Lekki to youths: stay focus

    Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Sesan Olowa has called on youths in Senior Secondary Schools, Higher institutions and those currently serving the nation through the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to be determined and intentional in their various activities.

    He said this at the maiden edition of mentorship platform tagged:Navigating Career Choices: Empowering Individuals to pursue purposeful paths.

    Olowa stated that the need for youths development has been identified in the community and the council has embarked on engaging them through mentoring forum.

    “Beyond the government providing schools materials, JAMB forms, scholarships, there is also a need to speak to the minds of these young people. There is also a need to guide them. Everybody needs a mentor in life. If your father isn’t your mentor then your mother probably is. When you leave the comfort of your home, you will meet people outside who will also be mentors. So the local government is more or less creating a platform where mentors and mentees can connect,” he added.

    He said his vision is to have citizens that are empowered and naturally competitive.

    “We want to produce people who can stand on their own anywhere in the world; this is the generation of people we aspire to have. We must always engage them, and bring them to forum where they can link up with people who can add value to their lives.

    “I want young people to go to any industry within this place and get hired on the basis of merit not just because they are from Ibeju-Lekkki Local Government Area,” he said.

    Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Taxation and Revenue, Mr AbdulKabir Ogungbo, praised the council boss for the initiative of bringing together great minds to enlighten the youth in Ibeju-Lekki.

    He said: “This is a platform that we’ve been clamouring for our youths so that they can have an understanding of identifying their career path and identifying somebody who they can take clue from and assist them in achieving their desired goals”.

    Ogungbo noted that the mentorship programme will help youths understand their civic duty towards the state and thereby promote the need for citizens to play their part to assist the government of the day.

    He urged youths to take advantage of the avenue by reaching out to their mentors in their various fields or career. “My singular advice for them is to take advantage of it and  make sure that they do not miss the opportunity, get close to the mentors they’ve identified in their career, not everyone will be in politics. You should take advantage of this opportunity,” Ogungbo advised.

    Chairman of Igbogbo-Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Olusesan Daini, hailed the council boss for the innovation in the community.

    He said the initiative would help re-orientate the youth and guide them in their journey in life.

    He appealed to youths to take advantage of mentorship programme by developing themselves for future oppotinities.

    Badagry West begins road work

    The Badagry West Local Council Development Area has begun the building of Salvation Army Road in Boglo.

    The road was part of the 114 Roads to be completed across the state.

    Chairman of the council Joseph Gbenu, said the exercise was in line with the Lagos State government’s development plan to make state a smart city.

    Gbenu emphasised the significance of the road to the community of Boglo and its environ.

    He acknowledged Salvation Army Primary School on the road as a pivot to the educational development and advancement of many notable indigenes of the Badagry West LCDA, including himself.

    He said: “I truly appreciate the Almighty God and especially the sellable Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu for approving the construction of the Salvation Army Road, because it is the only ward in the LCDA that is yet to benefit from such a major road project. I congratulate the people of Boglo community and charge them to cooperate with the government and contractors handling the road projects, to ensure the project is delivered successfully.”

    The contractor handling project, Segun Wahab of Phazam International Ventures, said it is expected to be completed in six months.

    According to him, the road will cover 520 meters in length and 7.3 meters in breadth.

    Wahab thanked Governor Sanwo-Olu and Gbenu for according his firm the opportunity to take up the road project.

    Community Development Committee (CDC) Chairman, Alhaji Bashir Yussuf, hailed the council boss embarking on the project.

    Alhaji Yussuf described it as a laudable project for the locality.

    He expressed optimism that construction of the road would hasten the facilitation of tourism potentials in the coastal area.

    Chairman of Apapa Local Government Idowu Senbanjo yesterday said construction of roads will boost economic status of the council.

    She said this during stakeholders’ meeting on the 114 roads scheduled for construction across the state.

    Senbanjo stated that the monumental project signifies a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to enhance the infrastructure and overall well-being of our residents.

    She said: “As the chairman of Apapa local government, I understand the vital importance of having functional and well-maintained roads for the progress and prosperity of our community. These 114 roads have been carefully selected based on thorough assessments and prioritization to ensure that the greatest impact is made on improving connectivity, accessibility, and quality of life for our residents.

    Ikosi-Ejinrin holds stakeholders meeting

    The Ikosi-Ejinrin Local Council Development Area, has convened a stakeholders’ engagement meeting at Itoikin community towards the construction of Lagbeja-Agric Road in the Community.

    At the meeting, important discussions and clarifications were made towards ensuring that the road construction is completed without any hitch.

    The road construction project spans a length of 418 meters and is 7.3 meters wide. Apart from being a major diversion aimed at decongesting traffic on the express, it is also a feeder road for many streets in the community.

    Chairman of Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA, Akogun Wale Anomo, said the project is funded entirely by Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA. When completed, Anomo said, the Lagbeja-Agric Road will become a point of historical reference not only in Ward R1 but also in Itoikin Community as it is the first road construction to be carried out by the LCDA in Ward R1 since its establishment.

    It will also be the first tarred road in the whole of Itoikin Community, he added.

    He said the timeline for the project is six months.

    He congratulated residents of the community for the infrastructure while urging them to be cooperative with the contractors, ensure that all necessary support is given to their workers from inception to the completion of the project.

    He also beckoned on the contractor to patronize local material suppliers to foster economic growth within the community.

    He called on the contractor to create opportunities for employment, particularly targeting the vibrant and capable youth demography, thereby fostering socio-economic development and empowerment at the grassroots level.

    The residents of Kosofe Local Government Area and the Mandate Movement, a political group of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the weekend celebrated former member, House of Representatives for Kosofe Federal Constituency, Prince Rotimi Agunsoye on his 62nd birthday. It was a white and orange affair in Kosofe as the dignitaries, including former Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Kayode Opeifa; Chairman Lagos Mandate Movement, Abdullai Ayinde ‘Enilolobo’ and former member House of Representatives (Agege Federal Constituency), Dr. Samuel Babatunde Adejare, lauded the celebrator.

    Adejare described the celebrator, as a ‘hardworking fellow, very intelligent, with humongous amount of native intelligence. He is a man that is brave, courageous and who says it the way it is. If you have Rotimi as a friend, you don’t need to look for another. He will not desert you and he will tell you when you’re wrong and when you are right. Above all, he’s a family man, very humble and a good party man.” Ayinde, on his part, congratulated the celebrator for retaining the loyalty of his people despite no longer being in office. He thanked God on his behalf and wished him long life, up to 95.

    “Rotimi is a party stalwart, not only in Kosofe but in the whole of Lagos State, which is why this huge multitude has gathered to celebrate him yet again,” Ayinde said.

    In his appreciation speech, Agunsoye recalled that the group had for the past 15 or 16 years, celebrated him on his birthday. He, therefore, prayed and thanked them for their steadfastness for the party and love and support for him, even after office. He said their action has again demonstrated that the Mandate Movement indeed owned Kosofe.
