    Eredo chair inspects project

    The Chairman of Eredo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Ismail Monsuru Akinloye, has visited the site of an ongoing project.

    The project is based on the much-anticipated 163 Kee-Klamp shop construction in Iraye Oke Market.

    Akinloye said: “This visionary project promises to transform the local market landscape, providing modern and spacious facilities for local entrepreneurs.”

    He said his personal supervision of the construction was to ensure it meets the highest standards.

    This, he said, was part of his commitment to community development.

    “The 163 Kee-Klamp shop project is not just about bricks and mortar; it’s about fostering economic growth and creating a vibrant marketplace for the people of Eredo. We eagerly anticipate the completion of this project and the positive impact it will have on the local economy,” he said.

    Agbado Oke-Odo lift residents with food items

    The Chairman of Agbado Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), David Famuyiwa, has distributed food items as palliative to residents of the council and its environs.

    The council chairman said the ithems were distributed to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal.

    “We are in hardship now, we think of what we can do to improve the lives of people; that’s why we came up with the idea of packaging some food items to give to the people of the local government,” he said.

    The chairman added that the food items in the package were rice, garri, beans, meat and sugar.

    He said the first phase of the palliative measures was targeted at 2,000 residents from across various spectra of the council area.

    According to him, the next batch would be done in the next two or three weeks times, adding that the palliative measures would be continued until people feel relieved from the fuel subsidy removal.

    A community leader, Shakiru Oguntola, commended the efforts of the council towards the people.

    He said another set of people would soon receive the palliatives in the next batch in a bid to prevent same set of people receiving twice.

    A beneficiary, Jamiu Atanda expressed his gratitude towards the local council for their kind gestures.

    He urged the chairman to do more of such programme.

    Igando-Ikotun lawmakers receive vehicles

    To facilitate effective legislative function in the council, Igando-Ikotun Local Council Development Area (LCDA) Chairman of  Comrade Lasisi Akinsanya has presented vehicles to the council’s seven councillors and leader of the House, Gbadamosi Dauda.

    According to him, this is to aid productivity in the discharge of their duties.

    He acknowledged the legislative impacts in the day-to-day running of the council.

    Akinsanya urged them not to relent until the needs of the masses have been catered for.

    He said: “The good people of Igando-Ikotun expect more dividends of democracy. Therefore, we are going to embark on more projects to ensure that the dividends of democracy is granted to our people; the people that gave us the mandate.”

    He advised the lawmakers to be dedicated to their duties and be loyal to the people and the government.

    He also assured his appointees of receiving theirs in no distant future.

    The council Vice Chairman, Mojisola Badmus, said:  “We got the best of the best for them. You know, despite the financial state of the council, the Chairman decided not to go for lesser quality of vehicles, but because he loves his people, especially his team, that is why he provided these good cars for them to ease the discharge of their duties.”

    Council Manager Shamsideen Odeleye lauded the development, adding that it was to enhance their performances, especially in their legislative and oversight functions.

    He also said that “when you look at the rate at which the chairman executes projects, you would agree with us that he actually deserves the name given to him “Mr Project.”  Dauda appreciated the chairman’s gesture.

    He also attested that the vehicles would ease the challenges being experienced in the discharge of their responsibilities.

    Residents seeks government’s intervention over disputed water tank

    Residents of Federal Low Cost Housing Estate (Shagari Estate) in Ipaja have again called on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Federal Ministry of Works to wade into the disputed Water Tank Land in the area.

    They said the over two plots of land which currently had the Water Tank facility initiated during the administration of late President Alhaji Shehu Shagari was being protected and reserved for future community project in the overall interest of residents.

    One of the community leaders in the area, Mr Adepoju Adewale, said their demands for a lasting solution to the ownership tussle was to end recurring face-off between residents and De Zenate Club which currently occupies part of the land.

    He lamented that the annual crisis caused over the ownership of the Water Tank Land in Shagari Estate took a new twist last year when some hoodlums’ orchestrated attacks and injury inflicted on those who stood for justice on the land.

    He alleged that officials of the Ministry of Works and Housing allocated part of the land to De Zenate Club after which the community later gave them more access to the land for access road close to ten years.

    The community leader added that De Zenate Club are now demanding for more access for link road at the detriment of the community.

    Adewale also accused authorities at the Mosan-Okunola Local Council Development Area of supporting De Zenate club as well as some top politicians in the area.

    He recalled that at a point, someone from the community wanted to buy the water tank land but the community kicked against it.

    Adewale explained that the Water Tank done since the government the late Alhaji Shehu Shagari has not worked for over 20 years.

    He stated that in the past the filed a petition before the Lagos State Government under Babtunde Fashola’s administration, adding they were assigned lawyer courtesy of the current Commissioner for Justice, Mr Lawal Pedro who was then state counsel to pursue the case but without concrete verdict.

    On their part, the Federal Housing Estate according to Mr Adewale also promised last year to ensure that the land was not taken over from the community.

    President of De Zenate Club, Mr Moruf Edun, said there was no truth in the allegation that the club intends to take over the land from the community.

    He said the community was aware of their request for access road from the club to link the main road in the area.

    Secretary to Mosan Okunola LCDA, Ayo Omolade explained that the council has no hand in what is going on the Water Tank land.

    According to him, there was no reason for any dispute in the land since it belongs to the Federal Ministry of Works with a Water Tank facilitated by the Federal Housing Authority.

    Igbogbo-Baiyeku donates 50,000 materials to schools

    The Chairman of Igbogbo-Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Olusesan Daini, has distributed educational materials to primary school pupils at UAMC Eleja Primary School, Methodist Primary School, and AUD Primary School in the council.

    The distributed educational materials included exercise books, biros, pencils, rulers, sharpeners, and erasers.

    According to the chairman, the initiative was undertaken in fulfillment of electoral promises made by him during his campaign, to showcase his dedication to supporting primary education.

    The council boss said a total number of 50,000 educational materials will be distributed to 12,000 pupils in Igbogbo-Baiyeku.

    This, he said, was to support both the children and parents who voted during the election, as well as all citizens of the community.

    Daini emphasised that governance was about making positive impact.

    The educational materials, he said, would alleviate the effects of subsidy removal and support the children in their studies.

    He promised to renovate a block of classrooms at Methodist Primary School, further demonstrating their commitment to improving the learning environment.

    He urged the students to appreciate their parents for their support.

    He encouraged them to focus on their studies, avoid social menaces, and work towards bettering society.

    The Councillor representing Ward C1, who doubled as the Deputy Leader of the council, Basirat Banjoko, lauded the chairman for the initiative.

    She acknowledged that instead of providing food palliatives only, the administration focus on education by providing the necessary educational materials to ease the burden on parents.

    The headmistresses of the three schools thanked the council chief for his unwavering commitment to education. They also offered prayers for him.

    The Ejigbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has distributed free General Certificate Examination (GCE) forms to over 150 students across the six political wards.

    Its Chairman, Monsuru Bello acknowledged the challenges faced by everyone, including the government, in these difficult times, urging students to make the most of the opportunity and study diligently.

    TBello, who was represented by the Vice Chairman and Supervisor for Health, Ayodele Ayodeji, emphasised the importance of preparing for the forthcoming GCE exams. He encouraged students to stay focused and avoid distractions during the examination.

    He noted that the initiative was aimed at ensuring that students had the necessary materials to effectively prepare for their exams.

    Council Manager Olusegun Ajaguna explained that the main aim of giving the forms freely was to ensure that the students are successful in the nearest future.

    He enjoin beneficiaries to attach great value to th eexamination.

    The Supervisor for Education, Ganiu Bello, advised the students to take their studies study hard, and eliminate irrelevancies.

    Bariga to renovate health centre

    Bariga Local Council is to renovate the Wale Awokoya Health Centre.

    This was made known during a visit to the centre by the Council Chairman, Kolade Alabi, and other officials.

    Alabi was joined by Supervisor for Health Modiu Olatilewa and the Manager of Bariga Properties and Investment Board Saheed Ashiru.

    Alabi said the facility which was in a sorry state would be renovated to meet the standard expected of a modern health care facility.

    The council boss added that the centre which was once a state-of the-art health centre, would be equipped with an x-ray room and ambulance.

    “I promise to resuscitate the health centre so as to meet the demand of the people as i believes health is wealth.

    “The renovation of the health centre will commence fully as soon as possible, in order to bring the dead infrastructure back to life,” he said.

    Lagos trains 180 artisans in Ikorodu, Ikotun, others

    A call has gone to participants at the ongoing Lagos State Master Craftsman Training Programme for Artisans in the Built Sector “to be more innovative, enterprising and professional in their conduct.”

    Commissioner for Housing Moruf Akinderu-Fatai gave the advice during an assessment visit to the venues of the programme at Government Technical Colleges, Ikotun and Ikorodu.

    Akinderu-Fatai, while briefing participants, described the training as “a Sanwo-Olu initiative geared towards improving skills of craftsmen in modern technologies in the construction industry”.

    He urged participants to be good ambassadors at the end of the programme by “stemming the tide of quackery in the built sector.”

    He expressed satisfaction at the level of teamwork and consensus building portrayed by the artisans during their practical sessions while urging the well-grounded craftsmen to adopt ‘‘Train the Trainer’’ method to share the knowledge and experience garnered in the course of the training.

    The commissioner also urged the participants to encourage others to key into the next phase of the programme as he further stressed that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is working assiduously to reduce unemployment in the state.

    Permanent Secretary for Housing, Mr. Kamar Olowoshago while giving his remark at the training centres, said that only certified Master Craftsmen by the Nigerian Institute of Building (NIOB) will be uploaded on the Artisans Hub website for clients who need their services.

    He expressed gratitude to NIOB for the support given thus far in ensuring that the requisite standards of the 21st century methodology are met via the curriculum.

    Consultant of Master Craftsman Training Programme, Mr. Razaq Jayieola, hailed the zeal shown by the artisans while assuring the state government of less importation of craftsmen from neighbouring countries.

    He also advised the participants to make good use of the work gears that will be given to them by the state government.

    A former National President of NIOB, Kunle Awobodu, commended the state government saying “that the programme is a laudable one that the institute is pleased and proud to associate with adding that it will help reduce drastically the level of substandard work encountered on construction sites.”

    Representatives of the beneficiaries of the programme, Solihu Azeez and Oyedele David who spoke on behalf of other participants appreciated Governor Sanwo-Olu for the opportunity availed them saying “that it has been a wonderful experience where they have had to unlearn, to learn and relearn in line with modern trends.”

    They pledged to be good ambassadors of the state by reflecting the knowledge gained from the training in their various trades.

    Council grants financial aid to 141 SMEs

    As part of the effort to alleviate the impact of the fuel subsidy removal by the Federal Government, the Chairman of Itire-Ikate Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Ahmed Apatira, has disbursed financial grants to Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

    The grants, ranging from N100,000 to N150,000, were part of the council’s palliative aimed at supporting local businesses during these challenging times.

    Apatira emphasised that the subsidy removal was carried out to reposition the economy and create a prosperous nation.

    “This initiative is solely aimed at alleviating the impact of fuel subsidy removal by the Federal Government, and I am of the opinion that this subsidy removal was done not to bring any untold hardship on the people, but to reposition our battered economy, so we can have a prosperous Nation called Nigeria that we all will be proud of,” he said.

    He noted that the financial grants were in line with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s developmental agenda T.H.E.M.E.S PLUS, which prioritises social inclusion, gender equality, and youth integration. Apatira said the agenda was rooted in the philosophy of “No One Will Be Left Behind”, regardless of social status, age, religion, or political affiliation.

    “It’s a policy designed to bring inclusiveness to governance where everybody is carried along and well-catered for. Our administration is majorly service-driven and performance-oriented”, he said

    Apatira listed the council’s previous initiatives to include scholarships for indigent students, distribution of school materials to pupils within the LCDA, skill acquisition programmes for students and unemployed adults, distribution of free General Certificate Examination (GCE) forms to disadvantaged students, and providing food packs of over 5,000 households in the community.

    “These initiatives were deliberately put in place to say we feel your pains and at the same time to say we appreciate your commitments, entrusting your mandates to this administration,” he noted.

     The chairman reiterated the council’s commitment to delivering dividends of democracy to the people while calling for continued cooperation and peaceful coexistence of residents the community to achieve more developmental gains.

    It was a thrilling showdown as Ward H emerged victorious in the keenly-contested Under-13 football final tournament organised by Chairman of Mushin Local Government Emmanuel Bamigboye.

    The final match saw Ward H secure a 2-1 victory over Ward A, showcasing an impressive display of skills.

    Being the last game of the tournament that involved 10 wards in Mushin Local Government, the match was met with enthusiasm from supporters and spectators alike.

    Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon’s Ward A and Emmanuel Bamigboye’s Ward H showcased their prowess on the pitch, competing for the championship title during the intense 40-minute match.

    During the trophy presentation, Bamigboye generously doubled the prizes  for the players and teams.

    Additionally, Toyin Fayinka, a member, representing Mushin Constituency II in the House of Representatives, and former Councillor Kayode Shobande of Ward A gave cash prizes to recognise the skills and efforts displayed throughout the tournament.

    Bamigboye expressed his commitment to youth engagement in Mushin and his dedication to promoting sports and discovering talents within the community.

    He commended his Ward H team for their triumph and gave cash prizes to the two losing teams in the semi-finals and quarter-finals to motivate them.

     After a hard-fought match that ended with a scoreline of 2-1 in favour of Ward H, the winning team received N100,000, with an additional N100,000 from Bamigboye, bringing the total to N200,000.

    The runner-up team received N50,000, with an additional N50,000 from the chairman, totalling N100,000.

    The two teams that lost in the semi-finals were got N15,000 each, with an additional N15,000 from the chairman, that is N30,000 for each team. Similarly, the teams that were defeated in the quarter-finals received N10,000 each, and an additional N10,000 from the chairman.

    Fayinka gave N10,000 to each of the two best players from each team that participated in the final match.

    Shobande, also known as Shokas, donated N50,000 to the winners of the final match and N30,000 to the second-place team, further highlighting his support for the young footballers.

    Prior to the commencement of the match, a minute of silence was observed to honour the late Deputy Leader of the legislative arm of Mushin Local Government, Muritala Oyeniyi, who recently passed away and was buried on August 27.

     The Supervisor for Youths and Sports, Tunji Okelola, expressed his gratitude to the council boss for his support and commitment to promoting sports among the youth in Mushin.

     He assured everyone that the tournament would be a continuous exercise, serving as a platform to keep the youth engaged and nurture their talent within the community.
