    Mosan-Okunola distributes palliatives to residents

    The Mosan-Okunola Local Council Development Area has distributed food items to community members and council staff.

     The event, which took place at the Secretariat, was attended by representatives of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), League of Imam of Alfas and community leaders.

     Council Chairman Adebisi Adebajo said that the current economic situation called for urgent intervention, adding that the distribution exercise would cut across the council political wards.

    She stated that the intervention would go a long way in helping the masses cope with financial pressure of the moment.

     Mrs. Adebajo said: “In cushioning the effect of subsidy removal, we know what is going on with our economy. We want to assure our people that this programme of palliatives distribution is going to be a continuous one. We will try as much as possible to support and assist our people because of the situation of the economy in the country. I assured them that next month we are going to do better by the special grace of God.”

     She said the items given were rice, garri, beans, sugar, and tomatoes, among others.

    The council boss urged the residents to support the leadership with prayers.

    Vice Coordinator of CAN in Mosan-Okunola LCDA, Felicia Bakare, expressed appreciation to the chairman for the gesture.

     “We really appreciate her and we pray that Almighty God continue to strengthen her. She promised us a lot of things and I believe she is going to do it,” she said.

    An Islamic cleric, Abdul Salam Agbede, thanked the chairman for her kind gesture.

    Iyaloja-General of Mosan-Okunola Local Council Development Area Elizabeth Ogunlade lauded the effort of the chairman and urged her to add more food items in the package that would be given next.

    All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman in the area, Alhaji Waheed Orire, advised the residents to exercise patience as the items would go round.

    Chairman of Apapa Iganmu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Alhaja Funmilayo Akande-Mohammed, has distributed palliative packages to 1,000 residents of the council.

    The packages, consisting of 1,000 bags of rice and 1,000 bags of semovita, were distributed individuals within the community.

    According to the her, the purpose of the distribution is to enhance the economic development of the area and alleviate the challenges faced by its residents.

     She said: “Palliative packages distribution will improve the economic development of our community. It has been a tradition worldwide to give palliatives in periods of economic challenges, and we will not be an exception.”

    Alhaja Akande-Mohammed urged everyone to remain steadfast in prayer, requesting divine strength for the President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to execute his economic master plan that would bring prosperity to the nation once again.

     On the selection criteria for the beneficiaries, she noted that priority was given to the elderly, widows, disabled individuals, and the less-privileged and that the approach aimed to ensure that those most in need would receive the necessary support.

    The leader of the legislative arm, Ojora Kamoru Abiodun, noted that the purpose of the initiative was to alleviate the hardships faced by the people in the wake of the removal of fuel subsidy.

    Abiodun emphasised the importance of implementing measures to ease people’s suffering, and assured the community that with proper planning, everything would become more manageable.

    “We organised this programme to bring smiles to people’s faces, particularly the residents of our local government. There will be an improvement in the ease of living in Apapa Iganmu,” he said.

    One of the beneficiaries, Alaba Tijani, expressed his gratitude to the chairman for her benevolence and encouraged her to continue implementing initiatives that benefit the people of the LCDA.

    He also urged her to recognize the association of people living with physical disabilities in the Apapa Iganmu branch of the LCDA.

     Another beneficiary, Sunday Adeoye said he never expected this kind of thing from the Chairman. He attested that the package given to him will serve his family for one month and wished the chairman would go for a third term or go as many times as she can.

     Another beneficiary from Ward H, Kehinde Alabi appreciated the chairman for always carrying them along.

     She also recounted how she helped her ailing mother years ago and supported her with a million naira.

     “She is the one that is making my mum stand here today, God will continue to help her and her children,” she prayed.

    IE powers Ikorodu communities with N250m transformers

    Electricity Distribution Company Ikeja Electric Plc (IE), in its efforts to strengthen critical infrastructure to ensure improved service to its customers in the Ikorodu axis of Lagos State, has replaced the faulty 15MVA power transformer at Sabo Injection Substation (ISS) with a new one.

    According to the Chief Technical Officer, Ikeja Electric, Olajide Kumapayi, an engineer, the replacement of the faulty power transformer which cost about N250 million became necessary to ease the hydra-headed problem of power supply being experienced by over 15,000 customers connected to the power transformer one (T1) at Sabo Injection Substation before it spoilt completely.

    He noted that the replacement would increase the availability of supply from the previous three hours to at least 12hours daily. This would be based on the service band tariff class associated with the feeders.

    Kumapayi said nine 11kv feeders were radiated from Sabo Injection Sub-station through the two power transformers which include Ayangburen, Lasunwon, Lagos Road, Marie, Ladega, Erunwen, Igbogbo, Ijebu-Ode and Eyita communities and environs.

    He said the construction of a new Injection Substation at the Lagos State University of Technology (LASUTECH) Ikorodu will commence shortly noting that it will provide one dedicated 11kv feeder for LASUTECH and two additional feeders to relieve Erunwen and Ijebu-Ode 11kv feeders in the Sabo Injection Substation. He assured that these investments will no doubt ensure optimal utilization of the technical assets to guarantee wider access and power availability across all impacted feeders in our resolve to meet the demand of our esteemed customers.

    Association seeks committed leaders for empowerment

    The Chairman of Oshodi, Mafoluku, Shogunle and Ewu-tuntun (OMSE) communities, Mr. Babatunde Faleye,  has called  for more committed leaders to work with the association and the government to support initiatives that will help stabilise the social and political climate in  the area.

    Faleye, who spoke at a seminar organised by the association in Lagos, said OMSE believed in partnership with the government based on the vision to unlock responsive development and job creation.

    According to him, the association’s vision for economic modernisation supports sustainable practices critical to improvements in quality of life, livelihoods and social cohesion.

    He noted that members of the association also offered the local government and its functionaries the opportunity to reimagine  the economy for development.

    Faleye, also the dean of Faculty, Universal Learn Direct Academia ( ULDA), pledged the the association’s readiness to work with the council to improve communities’ access to basic services and economic opportunities through a community driven development approach. He further envisaged a strong involvement of local authorities in providing residents with projects that will help in restoring social and economic infrastructure.

    One of the speakers and co-founder/coordinator TRAIN2BUILD.org.ng Gbola Oba indicated that communities in Lagos, including OMSE, were in search of committed leaders to address social challenges and make a positive impact on society.

    To improve the lives of communities, he indicated that community leaders should be involved in social impact activities focused on empowering women, promoting gender equality, supporting the development of young people and poverty alleviation.

    Oba said visionary leaders seek to improve the lives of communities and for people in the communities to reach their full potential. He called on the leaders to pursue programmes that would stimulate the economic growth that would create vibrant and healthy communities; bring prosperity to residents, families, and workers; and produce the rising tide that lifts all boats in the communities.

    Oba, also visioner and co-founder, ULDA, Lagos, said one problem of communities was lack of skills to undertake construction projects.

    The mission of ULDA, he  explained, is to  promote competitiveness and prepare the nation for growth and success in the worldwide economy through skills training for young Nigerians .

    He said ULDA was working with a partner to build 200 houses in the Mowe area of Ogun.

    Council boss inaugurates five classroom-block

    Igbogbo-Baiyeku Local Council Development Area  Chairman Olusesan Daini has inaugurated a block of five classrooms at Oreta Primary School, Igbogbo-Baiyeku.

    Daini provided the classrooms with chairs, white boards and other learning equipment needed to create a conducive environment for their learning for pupils.

    Daini said this was in fulfillment of his promise during his campaign. He also pledged to inaugurate a health centre in 30 days.

     He said, “As we are commissioning the classrooms today, in the next thirty days, a health center will also be commissioned in this community, to appreciate the community and let them know that we belong to a party that keeps promises.”

     Daini thanked Prince Adewunmi Ogunsanya for his philanthropy and kind gesture in renovating another block of classrooms in the school.

     Governance Advisory Council (GAC) Member Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Bashorun said: “We know virtually every project that is going on, and most of the leaders were carried along because the chairman briefs us during our monthly meeting, we implore him to continue in this great path he has started.”

    He also appreciated the support of the Legislative and Executive members for the administration of the chairman in making the community a better place.

    The traditional ruler, Oba Abdulsemiu Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom, urged the beneficiaries to make use of the facilities judiciously. 

    He said “The community members are happy that the classrooms are been equipped, we advise them to continue to do more and implore the community to ensure sustainable use of this place, the facilities should not be vandalized, people should use it effectively and judiciously.”

    Alimosho Local Government Chairman Jelili Sulaimon has presented certificates of return to the newly-elected Community Development Committee (CDC) members in the council.

    This is sequel to the directive by the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu. to dissolve all Community Development Committee (CDC) in the state and elect new members.

    The members were presented with the certificates at the Alimosho Local Government Multi-purpose Hall, Akowonjo.

     The presentation was done by the Supervisor for Agriculture and Social services, Adegoke Sosanyan, who represented the Sulaimon.

     The new members are Venerable Adewuyi as Special Adviser Chairman, Alhaji Kassim Kayode as first Vice-Chairman, Elder Z.A Toki as second Vice-Chairman, Abiodun Ashimiu Adegoke as General Secretary, Pastor Rogho as Assistant Secretary, Barrister Adeeko as Treasurer, Jubril Ibrahim as Financial Secretary, Alhaji Mumeen A.O Yusuf as Auditor, Anifowoshe Olaide as Publicity, Kabiru Kasali as Social Secretary, Mrs M.O Popoola as Welfare l, Fakoyede Dupe-Welfare ll, Alhaji Sola Ogunyombo as first Ex- Officio, Alhaji Ishola Adeyemi as Ex-Officio and others.

    Council lifts residents with skills

    The Chairman of Apapa Iganmu Local Council Development Area (LCDA),  Alhaja Funmilayo Akande-Mohammed has said that skill acquisition is the second means to better livelihood after education.

    She spoke at the launch of a three-month skill acquisition scheme for some residents of the council area.

    She said: “Vocational training has improved the socio-economic development of our community. It has developed our creativity and encouraged networking among experts by improving our human capital development and serves as a means of steady income.

    “During our electioneering campaign, we promised that we would  improve the socio-economic development of our community. Today, we are doing the second phase of our vocational training in my second term in office,” she said.

    She spoke also of past and current projects carried out by the administration: “We distributed two hundred free General Certificate Examination (GCE) forms to our indigent students who sat for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) exam early this year and we are known for always empowering our youths massively so that our standard of living will increase.

    “In addition to these, we are rehabilitating Akorede/Osimehen roads with interlocking stones, and building culverts, walkway and street lights.”

    Alhaja Akande-Mohammed appealed to residents who were yet to pay their tax to fulfill their statutory responsibilities, urging them to abstain from maltreating the task force/revenue collecting staff of the council.

    “All these goals wouldn’t have been possible without my viable legislators, executive members, management team, and the good people of Apapa Iganmu,” she said.

    The training will cover skills such as catering/confectionery, makeup and gele, barbing, fashion design (male and female),  and shoe making, among others.

    The Chairman, Lekki Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Rasak Kasali, has lauded a member of the House of Representatives, representing Epe Federal Constituency, Hon. Wale Raji, for his timely intervention on ocean surge in the area.

    The chairman expressed his appreciation to Raji for his prompt intervention to their needs within short notice and said that the intervention was not only life saving but has made all the difference in the direction of the lives of the people.

    The council boss who expressed this during the foundation laying for a block of classrooms emphasised the importance of primary education in rural areas and said: “Ocean surge has gotten closer to the old primary school that was built in Akando-ise and the immediate intervention has really uplifted the development of the area.”

    He further commended the Raji for all he had been doing for Epe Division and his constituency.

    The Baales and representatives of the community also expressed their joy and relieve at the intervention. They said they were rest assured that the children would be safer in the relocation of the school to a higher ground away from the surging ocean.

    The Acting Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University College of Education, Morufudeen Shittu, highlighted the importance of primary education in rural areas. He stated that primary education contributed to whom they are today.

    “Without primary school, there won’t be any education in this village”, he said.

    Chairman lays foundation for ultra-modern complex

    The Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Emmanuel Bamigboye, has laid the foundation of the proposed multipurpose office complex.

     According to the chairman, the main purpose of the structure is to accommodate federal agencies such as the Department of State Services (DSS), customs officers, Immigration, National Population Census, Civil Defense, and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

    Bamigboye said: “The foundation we are laying for this ultra-modern office complex is going to entail so much more for an office and it is strictly for all federal representatives to be in one place so that they can serve the local government very well and to support the general hospital.

     The chairman acknowledged the department of ward housing which are in charge of the laying of foundation. He said he believes in the next few months they will be done with the project and they will have a very good and conducive office.

     The Council Engineer, Babaleji said the structure will be completed in October by God’s grace.

    Alabi rolls out first batch of food packs, unveils transport services

    To cushion the effect of subsidy removal, the Chairman of Bariga Local Council, Alabi David, has rolled out over 5000 food packages and 20 buses to offer transportation services in and around Bariga at discounted rates to the residents of the council.

    The event kicked off at the council secretariat with a speech by the chairman that  the food package was strictly for the aged and the vulnerable.

     Alabi pleaded with the connt in the hope of a better tomorrow. He also stated that the government would implement social assistance programmes for the underprivileged and vulnerable at all levels.

     “To lessen the impact of subsidy  reduction on the most vulnerable population outside of the civil service,  Bariga has decided to support its people through credible palliatives. We are  offering financial assistance, food distributions, and a functional health care programme.

     “The first six (6) buses are fully automated and prepared to transport  passengers at a 50 per cent discount as part of the Bariga Local Council’s palliative  transport service, which is being unveiled today.The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and Critical Stakeholders are anticipated to receive the second set of fourteen (14) buses as part of an empowerment programme, which will help lower transportation costs in our community, integrate the informal economy, and boost local economic development in Bariga.

     “We are swiftly implementing these palliative measures in order to prioritize

    tackling widespread hunger and a rapidly declining standard of living while also reaching out to our people who have been most negatively impacted by the loss of the gasoline subsidy,” Alabi said.

     The chairman reiterated that the bus service is for every resident of Bariga, and the first set of the buses would be properly maintained and handled by the local council while seven buses will be handed over to the NURTW on a discounted hire purchase.

    The other seven, he said, will be handed over to critical/major stakeholders also on a discounted hire purchase. Alabi also gave out free 300 cowrie cards for the buses which would be provided for residents at various points.

    Furthermore, Alabi promised to provide more cowrie cards for residents.

    The buses will run in partnership with the Lagos State Bus Services Limited (LBSL) and provide services for people. They will  charge only 50 per cent of usual bus fares and commence operation immediately.

    Finally, the chairman announced the 50 per cent reduction at all council health facilities. He urged residents to continue to encourage the executives to do more.

    The programme ended with the unveiling of the buses and distribution of food items. The occassion was graced by all executives, legislative, elders and major stakeholders.
