Can Abere seed (Hunteria Umbellata) cure prostate gland problems?

The prostate gland has become another major concern of many Nigerian men today, after hypertension, heart and colon questions. The gland is either inflamed, enlarged or cancerous in many cases. Among middle aged and older men, the catheter is no longer news. This is a urine plastic tube which has to be inserted into their organt o bring urine into a urine bag that is worn on the body, when problems in the prostate gland make it difficult for them to easily urinate. In that case, urine, produced by the kidneys and stored in the urinary bladder, backs up to the kidneys, infecting the bladder and kidneys, ultimately poisoning them. I do not know how men who wear catheters cope with them. As the prostate gland surrounds the neck of the urinary bladder, its inflamation, enlargement or cancer may narrow or block a tube from this urine store, the Ureter, which takes urine out of the body. I shiver whenever anyone tells me he is on a catheter, because of the nasty experiences that I am told they go through to have it fixed to save their lives. A plastic tube has to be pushed right past the prostate gland, to bring urine out of the bladder into a urine bag worn on the body. As the male organ vary in size from man to man, so do the lumen or internal space of their ureters. This means the right size has to be used. I have heard of situations when the catheter tube available was larger than the lumen of the ureter and it has to be forced in, pushed up almost a foot of the organ, with bruises, here and there. Infection(s) may fellow. Antibiotics may be taken to prevent or to clear them. This may worsen cases of acidosis or toxicity and create more problems for the immune system. I am told this is not the only problem of a catheter wearer. He must know when the bag is full, empty and clean it to prevent spills on his body and dress. If he is careless, offensive urine odour may hang over his person in the public. Not only that, a perfume spray bottle must be nearby all the time. Additionally, prolong use of the catheter may weaken or damage bladder muscles, or make them too relaxed since there is not much work for them to do. This means the challenged person may loose bladder control capacity when the catheter is eventually removed.

These are some of the reasons many men, agitated, run helter skelter or from “pillar to post”, as we say, proverbially, for a cure of these nasty problems. The tumultuous agitation, as these challenges hit near epidemic proportions, provoked a huge market response from both Orthodox and Alternative medicine communities. I thought of this column when a woman approached me last week, heart broken, for any advice that may help her husband. I have been acquainted with them for about 10 years when they were grappling with fertility questions. The day she announced to me on the telephone that she had become pregnant but the foetus ended hooking up in the tube in ectopic pregnancy, I shed tears as she was crying. Her doctors really tried to save the foetus. Through some medical manipulations, they scooped the foetus out and aimed to implant it in the uterus, but something went wrong in the end. When she overcame the disappoinment, she and I tried to find reasons why the fertilised egg got stuck on the way to the uterus. Could it be karmic? Could it be due to wrong signalling that it had reached its destination? Could it simply be a cause of loss of energy on the way, in which case the foetus hung up where it ran out of gas? We decided to explore the last assumption. Could her body have become de-energised under the emotional traumas? So, she embarked on a coenzyme Q10 or Ubiquinol supplementation of her diet and, happily, not long after, I became a vicarious grandfather of twins girls.

These memories came flooding back to me last week when she told me on telephone that her husbands prostate challenges not only generated into prostate cancer but that it had metastatised,. That is, it had spread beyond the prostate gland!

We went through sum measures she could undertake immediately, and I promised her more information, especially about Abere Seeds which I had been told by some persons cleared their prostate gland challenges.

Tirelessly, Nigeria’s Alternative Medicine communities continue to wage their battle against prostate gland discomfitures of inflamation, enlargement and cancer, which have hit near epidemic proportions like breast cancer and uterine fibroids. It has not mattered that many promising recipes soon fall by the wayside while others sprout from their graves. One of the latest promises is Abere (r:d:d). It has the same spelling as Abere (r: m:m), needle. It is in their similar spelling that their similarity stops. The words in their meanings differ in their tones and notes, even when they bear the same alphabets in the English Language. In Yoruba Language, the Abere which means needle carries a dot under each “e”, but none in the “e” of Abere the seed. In creation, every creature has a primordial name which performs a unique activity when it is expressed in a tone and note which corresponds with the word. Every note and tone set off a chain of etheric forms and reaction which correspond with their primordial meanings even if, meanwhile, those primordial meanings have been adulterated in the dynamic of language evolution. That is why a human word hurled at a stone building may be enough to set it on fire, or cause a human being or a tree to dry up immediately or cause a swarm of bees to attack a person or an invading army. Did toads not invade Egypt when enslaved Jews demanded their freedom? And did Egyptian first born not die? We sense it when someone says unwholesome words to us! Negative vibrations from the populace can confuse and consume a good government even set a a whole nation on fire! One of my uncles in the village could call down snakes from the palm wine and palm fruit tree and send them away, to enable palm wine tappers and palm fruit harvesters to safely do their work. About three weeks ago, a renowned Nigerian neurologist and chartered homeopath informed me of a new machine which is superior in technology to Semyor Kirlian’s photography method. It could photograph astral life better. In one case of stroke, it picked the image of an astral python which curled around the astral body of the patient. In Nigeria, we erroneously call this “spiritual attack”. It may very well be the form of a thought or a multiples of thoughts convoluted in the nature, shape and intensity of those thoughts, intuitive or fleeting, or of the spoken word(s).

    Abere Seeds

If we are bombarded every day with new recipes for prostate health, we should not tire of checking them out. The bar is inexhaustible in the treasure household of Mother Nature. We can minimise doubts and upscale our beliefs in any of them by using such internet applications as Planet Earth to verify cure claims. I do not have Abere seeds before me as I write. So, I cannot do that right away. However, are internet applications the end of human wisdom? They are man-made, and so, their usefulness may be limited to the level of the frontiers of human understanding at any point in time.

Recently, I discovered that some floor drains on the grounds of my house were threatening a parameter fence because of about five years of neglect in maintenance. They began to deliver rain water into the foundation of the fence, thereby threatening to pull it down. When they were opened up for cleaning, we discovered a huge root of a pawpaw tree nearby had profusely grown into some of them. Sadly, I had to take out the promising pawpaw to save the fence. It smelled luxuriantly of Papain, one of the proteolytic pawpaw enzymes. I thought of drying it and using it for digestive and immune system support, remembering that, about 20 years ago, I harvested whole infant papayas and ground the leaves, stalks, stem and roots into a gruel which I dried for those purposes, after a similar product from China. Now, there is a global believe that papaya enzymes are very good anti-cancer medicines. Thus, I eat generously servings of green pawpaw leaves with my meals.

I became interested in Abere (dry) Seeds when one of my acquaintances, a retired security spook, mentioned his encounters with persons who were vouching for it in respect of the healing of their misbehaving prostate glands. One of them was a retired Deputy Commissioner of Police. The security spook met him in the office of the Commissioner who opened up in respect of his ailing prostate gland. Their discussions brought up the suggestions that many senior police officers were faced with this challenge and treating it with dry Abere Seeds. Their recipe is: soak some dry Abere Seeds in a bottle of coconut water. Leave them to infuse into the water over two or three days. Take one tort (that small gin glass cup) one or two times a day. I wondered if coconut oil or palm kernel oil may not do the job.

I will not be surprised if top notch police men have prostate gland challenges. They work under tension and emotional disturbances which easily affect the second chakra energy region of the body where the prostate gland is located. When the energy of this region goes down, prostate gland problems will flare up in proportion to lost etheric energy. Senior policemen are aging, hypertensive, overworked, take terrible work risks especially these days when they must engage better equipped kidnappers and bandits in the forests. Besides, their post-retirement life is unsure and probably insecure. The prostate gland is in the second chakra energy region.

    Abere

Emotional pains from power game losses can cause health problems in the second chakra energy region. (Please read about second chakra online). I have tried to imagine how I would have felt as Inspector-General of Police or as the Police Commissioner in Kano State over recent face-up with the re-installed Emir, Mohammad Lamido Sanusi II. There is intra-religious tension in Kano where emirs are installed today and deposed tomorrow. Emir Sanusi was advised to not ride a horse to the prayer ground at the end of the Ramadan. This was a symbol of the authority of his office. He ignored the instruction. A fracas broke out. Some persons died. The police had to investigate the event and so, invited some persons, including Emir Sanusi, to their office for questioning. Before you could call Jack Robinson, the police withdrew the invitation and chose, instead, to meet Emir Sanusi in his palace. Didn’t water flow under the bridge? What would come out of the investigation? Isn’t this why cattle rearers from abroad bear AK47 rifles that are unlicensed? How did the police take withdrawal of prosecution of some “under-age” accused persons in the North during the youth prostests of last year? I juxtaposed all of these against lessons I learned during a journalism training programme I attended in the United Kingdom, in 1979.

    The lesson is this:

    • The Queen of England lived in Buchingham Palace

    • The police secures the palace with a number of policemen.

    • One day, a superior officer posted a constable on a particular walk way with the instructions…”No one passes the gate”

    • It was a route the Queen of England hardly used during her evening strolls

    • On the important day, she and some of her friends decided to walk it down.

    • The constable refused to open the gate but politely, and with a salute, informed the Queen of England… No one passes this gate, please! He saluted her Royal Majesty and turned his back on the gate.

    • The Queen thanked him and walked away! In Nigeria, this constable could be physically battered in the office or even lose his job. His boss could tell him …”EVEN if I saidNo one passes the gate, can you not use your common sense? Becoming demeaned on the job, many persons may be emotionally de- energised. This is well proven by James Red Field in the hypothesis of The Four Human Dramas in his book, Celestial Prophesy.

Abere, prostate cancer cure: true or farce

When it comes to cure claims these day, I walk, first, on the side of advised caution, without necessarily being a Doubt Thomas. We are in a season in which Nigeria’s folklore medicines are ressurecting from graveyards into which they were dumped by colonialism and neo-colonialism. Everybody is exhuming the Account Books of their progenitors and blasting all sorts of recipes on the social media. They are encouraged by a World Health Organisation (WHO) backing which softpedals on strict evidence of clinical proof for cure claims. Once a view persons can vouch in public that something worked for them, that is it.

In this and other regards, I, too, do not underate or relegate the value of Account Books. These are ancient and pre-colonial recipes of medicinal plants for all sorts of diseases, and for warding off psychic attacks. If they worked for our pregenitors and they did not become extinct, would they not work for us, too? For about 40 years, I have been searching for the Account Book of Pa Ikurimisa Ogunnuti, my paternal grandfather, a legendary traditional medicine – man for the Awujale of IJebuland of his days, and a descendants of Prince Lasaku, a powerful Prince in one of the ruling Houses of the Awujale Royal Court in Ijebu-Ode. Prince Lasaku passed just before he could be crowned as a new Awujale. The family’s Account Book in the possession of Ikurimisa Ogunnuti was believed to have been stolen when he fell ill and died. Today, I go with trusted scientific documentation such as The Pharmacopea of Western Nigeria and such Account Books as that of Pa Odumosu, a copy of which I misplaced in my library in the process of carefully securing it. I rely as well on the evidence of the book Tested Herbal Formulas, written by Fatai A. Alade-Bamgbala, who says the contents are from the Account Book of his grandfather, Sanusi Alade. Additionally, I rely on the accounts of Prof L. S. Gill, the Indian man who taught Botany in some Nigeria universities and took the opportunity to write the book, Ethnomedical uses of plants in Nigeria which is an account of medicinal plants which various ethnic groups employ to defend the health of their peoples.

I was somewhat disappointed by the book, Ethnomedical uses of plants in Nigeria, an otherwise versatile literature, because it said not much about Abere Seeds. It mentioned use of the leaves, bark and roots of the tree for purposes other than for prostate gland questions, probably because prostate diseases have not become frontburner questions at the time it was written.

The book says: “The roots and stem bark of Abere is(sic) used as anhelmintic. The decotion of root stem is drunk in the dose of wineglassful thrice a day. The decoction is also used in the traditional medicine for the treatment of abnormal swelling”.

From the book Tested Herbal Formulas, by Fatai A. Alade-Bamgbala, we obtain assurances of secure formulas for many ailments. The cure formulas are arranged in English and Yoruba compartments. In the English section, there is a prescription for kidney and prostate gland disturbances. In the Yoruba section, there is a prescription for “Eyo” (d:m) or “urination” in men. Eyo (d:m) is different in pronounciation and meaning from “Eyo” (masquerade in Lagos).

In the English Language presprecription, Bamgbala says: “1 oz uva ursi, 1 oz juniper berries, 1 oz ginger root, 1 oz cayenne, 1 oz golden seal root, 1 oz marshmallow root, 1 oz parsely leaves, 1 oz gravel root. This will dissolve the stones in the kidneys and clean out other sedimentation and infection in the prostate”.

In the Yoruba Language section, Bamgbala says: “Ogin Eyo Okunrin Egbo ipeta, orogbo 3, odidi atari 3, ewe epin ti won fi fo no sodo, isu to jona mo ape, ikode 1, alubosaelewe, ata ije, ije, iyo ijr kanuhilala a o gunpo, a o ma fo my wko gbona laro laro”.

This section is woolly. I had no time to search for” Isotu” or “Esoto” both of which mean urinary blockage. Nevertheless, I believe we have something to chew in the foregoing. One addition I will like to make is Garlic Gin, a proprietary blend new in the market and indicated for cancer, among another ailments. It combines the cool press oils of garlic, ginger and black seed, which have multifarious healing properties and are believed to be anti-cancer in some ways. Meanwhile, Abere Seeds continue to enjoy wide reputation as a prostate problem remedy in Nigerian herb market governed by Yoruba women, from Lagos to Enugu, Calabar, Uyo, Jos, Kano and Sokoto.

  • Stage 4 prostate cancer doctor healed by herbs offers prayers

Stage 4 prostate cancer doctor healed by herbs offers prayers

The story of Dr Samuel Johnson, a stage four  prostate gland cancer survivor, went out again two Sundays ago…during a thanks giving service at his church AME Zion, in a village, Mbierebe Akpawat , Ibesikpo LGA, near Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital. If you have not heard of the story, Dr Johnson is the Orthodox medical doctor who has been reported two or three times in passing on this page to have wound up his medical practice of 47 years in the United States and, literally speaking, return home to die, after doctors over there diagnosed him of stage 4 prostate cancer in terminal stages and gave him no more than three months to live. Irrespective of intellectual science and technology- based opinions, Dr Samuel Johnson fate would lead him to persons who introduced him to some herbs which he religiously added to his treatment regimen. The herbs worked wonders. Dr Johnson defeated the cancer, as lived for more than one year longer than his doctors thought he would, and went to church two Sundays ago to offer his gratitude to the Almighty Creator and Ruler of All the Worlds.

Today, I write about Dr Samuel Johnson with no pressure of a doubting Thomas on my mind, and free of the fear that I may have swallowed, line hook and sinker, the bait of a scammer. Some readers of this column who sought access to Dr Samuel Johnson for help in respect of their ailing prostate glands, or for those of their friends and relations, tended to disbelieve the story because the doctor did not give me the permission to let the public in to him. He and I spoke about two or three times, no doubt, after an impeccable source was so sucked in by a journalist proverbial Long Nose For News. After those initial contacts, Dr Johnson seem to shut the door. Why he chose to not “put his little light on the bushel to let it shine”, as we were trained in high school Baptist Training Union ( BTU) of the 1960s, I do not know. I acknowledge his right to not be a public’s man, though. Nevertheless, I strove on to re-assure enquirers from The Nation newspaper that Dr Samuel Johnson is not a scam. Early this month, providence let me to someone who attended Dr Samuel Johnson’s thanksgiving church service. This person had been hovering around him in respect of some-one with prostate cancer challenges. What I have deduced from our conversations so far is that Dr Samuel John appears to want no more than a 100 patients he can creditably manage. That is probably why he has not been open to entreaties by the local physicians association in Uyo that they set up a foundation around his work. It is possible the foundation may beat down treament bills which, I understand, may hit about N4 million in some cases. From some of the persons who have made the 100- Patients List,it is emerging that the treament is two-fold. One part consists of Homornal Therapies. The other comprises Nutrinational Supplements and Herbs.

I do not know as yet if this hormones or herbs are they once alternative medicine works with in various ways to create checks and balances in the prostate gland. Thus,Dr Samuel Johnson would simply laugh at me if I make wild, wrong guesses. I would, therefore, save my energy in this regard. For how long he would be able to keep to himself I do not know. His survivor story is generating energy everywhere for his help. We are in the season of Resurrection as it were. Literally speaking,Dr. Samuel Johnson’s health resurrected. They are probably hundreds of thousands of suffering men who are trying, as Dr Samuel Johnson once was, and who would want to be saved from prostate gland health troubles.

I  sympathise and flow with them, not because I have prostate gland challenges. Since my 30s in the 1980s, I have taken food supplements relevant to the health of this organ. The ones I can remember include Saw Palmetto Berries, Peruvian Macca, Ashwanghdah, Small Flowered Willow Herb, Pyggeum Africanum, Stringing Nettle Root, Bee Pollen,Zinc, Vitamin E, Essential Fatty Acids( Omega-3) anti-inflammatories such as curcumin and anti-microbials such as Golden Seal Root and Amazon A-F, which is indicated for bacteria and viruses. Sometimes, I try to rid my body of heavy metals toxicity using chlorella and cilantro, also known as corriander, and chelated minerals as well. I do the same for parasites, too, because parasites, like microbes, may create havocs in the prostate gland. There are many proprietary blends in the market which factor as many of these fabulous nutrients and others not mentioned here into their formulas. The FLP once gave us PRO-6. BELL came up with Easy Flow Tea. From Nature’s Gift for Life(NG4), we have Prostate Protect, Prosta plus and Broccoli.Angela and Zinab, of Millennium Nature’s Pathway ( MINAPATH) eulogise D-MAN, Nakom Oil and Rejuvenating Drink.Edible Herbs offer Prostate Care and Men’s Formular. From the 1990s till this day, Tasly had provided GinsengIN RH2 and Water Lilly, among several others which should include Cardiotonic Pills, a wonderful blood circulation formula. Basically, it is an ANTI- hypertensive and anti-stroke formula, going by outcomes of some clinical studies. In such studies, the hands of some volunteers were frozen until the outer skin became white, suggesting lack of poor blood circulation. They were then given Cardiotonic pills to swallow with water. In the twinkle of an eye, blood circulation re-established in the hands. This suggested that this formulation may dissolve blood clots in the arteries,to prevent heart failure, congestive heart problems, heart attack and strokes. Why water pushes blood through seemingly impregnable barriers in these places not open up, I often wonder at the level of treatment conceptions why it does not easily do so in cases of  prostate gland challenges and in uterine fibroids.

In my small house garden, I planted a variety, of the white cocoa yam which he said to be a medicine for glandular inflammation and enlargement. They are yet to mature. I planted them when a junior professional colleague of mine who had prostate gland questions for many years told me he got rid of them by eating a special type of white cocoyam which some-one suggested to him. In the healing business, I have learned to not throw out of the window any suggestion. I researched white cocoyam, and found it had great potentials. I did not know this gentleman to be flipant when we work at The Guardian newspaper. I had left The Comet newspaper when he went to work there. His reputation as a serious-minded person was still intact, from what I picked up from his colleagues. When Udeme James overheard my conversations with him on the telephone, she told me to not disregard his suggestion about cocoyam. She said that, in Akwa-Ibom State where she came from, it was the saving grace for many children, including her as one, who came down with Mumps, a dangerous infection and Inflammation of the salivary gland which caused painful swellings around the ear and neck regions. If they are not well treated in time and well, they may cause sterility in men and women later in adult life. In Akwa Ibom State of her time, Udeme recalls, white cocoyam was used therapeutically against mumps. It was boiled and eating as boiled with no oil, pepper , salt, stew or sauce. That is often the end of the mumps infection. When my white cocoyam matures for harvesting, I should have another recipe for prostate gland challenges on my finger tips. You, too, can do the same today. However, please note that the white cocoyam variety I speak about is the very slimy one which is difficult to cook and eat until it has been left to dry a beat after the harvest.

It is good to give when we receive . That is the life of this column. Since my late 20s, that is for about 50 years now, have been growing the knowledge and activities in taking and giving. I do not like to take without giving in healthy balance, even if the giving is not to the person I took from. The Lord Jesus taught us that it was better to give than to receive because it is only in giving that we receive. Who can expel used air in his or her lungs without giving it out to the universe to receive a fresh intake? When any organ blocks the flow of blood circulation to other organs, will it not cause impairments in the other organs through this stagnation? This is a great concern in Glaucoma, the dangerous eye disease,in which the frontal chamber of the eye holds up fluid circulation to outside the eye chambers, to cause fluid back up in the back chamber and a gradual loss of vision. Doesn’t Autism arise from a lack of proper co-ordination between the Cerebrum (back brain ) and the Cerebellum (front brain) which causes indwelling spirit inability to properly use the body?

We can spill over into the great universe and into activities of attraction and repulsion through gravitational forces of the Cosmic bodies. Attracting and repelling constitute taking and giving which, in healthy balance, holds the universe together. As a geography student in high school, it was intriguing to me that the earth, its moon, the sun and stars and other cosmic bodies in our solar system do not collide in their orbits around the Sun. More intriguing it was when I learned of the galaxies of solar systems which numbers is beyond human ability to number. What about the stars, some of which are about one million times larger than our Earth, a mere pin-point in the cosmic architecture? Boundless was my joy the day I discovered that The Law of  Giving and Taking was one of the laws of Nature which upholds stability in the universe. No wonder, the Lord Jesus said it was better to give than to receive. Haven’t we, too, said through observation that Giver Never Lack?

Finally, I would like to recall that the treatment of eye problems in Nigeria advanced because an aging patient of Ophthalmologist Prof. Bukola Adefule-Oshitelu gave her his recipe for healthy vision despite the challenge of glaucoma for which he was consulting with her. He told her he had not been using Orthodox eye drops she was prescribing for him for his high occular tensions in glaucoma but using home-made Bitter Kola eye drops. He was coming to her clinic at the Guiness Eye Centre of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) only to be sure his eye pressure was within safe limits. Prof. Adefule-Oshitelu researched Bitter Kola for eye drops in glaucoma, and found it brought eye pressure down. When this column reported it, the unusual happened. The Voice of America ( VOA) and the British Broadcasting Corporation ( BBC) descended from their Olympian heights and came to Nigeria to interview her. This Professor, who later became chairperson of the Lagos State Traditional Medicine Board, had gone on to add Chanca Piedra and other herbs to her list of eye drops. In Asia, Chanca is used, among other things, to lower blood pressure, burn blood sugar in diabetes, crush kidneys and gall bladder stones. Isn’t, therefore, relevant for eye care, to dissolve cataract, which is a stone, reduce eye pressure because it is hypotensive, and lower blood sugar excess in the eye is one of the great problems of this organ? In any case, isn’t glaucoma, for example, now being linked to a new concept, Diabetes of Brain Cells, which is said to cause this glaucoma symptoms in the eye? If there had been no exchange for giving and taking in medicine, how would these forward strides have been recognised, appreciated and taken? For me, we all live in a world in which the table of the Lordis richly laden.Only this week, I was told of a new arrival for vision care in the Nigerian market. It is a 14mls cold compress gel for people who experience strained eyes from long exposure to cell phone, computer and television. It comes from Edible Herbs. We are to take and enjoy blessings from the richly-laden Table of the Lord provided we do not hurt our fellow human beings in the process. I cannot be a judge of fellow humans. That often ends up in trying to remove the mote in another person’s eyes and leaving beams in my eyes to grow. Nevertheless,I feel uncomfortable when I realise I have taken something without giving something in return. Can you pick groundnuts from the tray of a groundnut seller, for example, without paying him or her appropriately for the purchase? That is what we do when we one-sidedly approach THE TABLE OF THE LORD for whatever blessing(s) profit(s) our existence…

Is Dr Samuel Johnson listening? I believe I have tried well enough to hold a healthy balance between him and his critics, oh no, I mean the followers of his surprising healing story who would like to be close to him and receive help from him. I appreciate why Dr Samuel Johnson may wish to limit his patients base to no more than about 100 persons. If he practised medicine for 47 years in the United States before he had to suddenly return home, this doctor must be in his 70s like me. At this age, I cannot see myself opened up to about 100 consultations every day in whatever form, be it physical present in a consulting room or correspondence by electronic mail or the telephone. The problems of such a plight remind me of a Chiropractor mentioned by doctor Andrew Weil in one of his books which, if my memory serves me right, is titled Spotaneous Healing. This Chiropractor gave no medicines or injections to induce spontaneous healing in his patients. He believes health challenges occur when the bones of the scalp are misaligned with his fingers, he searched the scalp of his patients for misalignment and massage them still he achieve balance in the bone settings. He was easily the most sort after doctor in his community. He enjoyed the work. However, he began to dislike it when age began to catch up with him. This doctor gave no notice when, for the sake of his own health and life, he relocated to another town to continue his practice on a lower level. In the town to which he relocated, he changed the name of his practice persons over the age of 18. He did not place his little light beneath the bushel. In no time, his reputation grew again. The patients he fled from now knew his whereout and came after him. This is a way of advising doctor Samuel Johnson that a man with a mission cannot successfully hide himself from.the world or from the persons he is sent to. We are not on our own. We are the last links in a long chain. Our conditions are sometimes placed in our paths as obstacles we will surmount to learn about them, to gain strength and knowledge in doing so and hand to humanity this message from distance part of the universe. As doctor Samuel Johnson is a Christian and went to church two weeks ago to offer his gratitude to the Almighty Creator of All, I wish to take the liberty to say two things I would have told him that if I were one of the pastor’s in section. I would in this regard remind of the biblical statement ‘I knew there before I form there in thy mother womb”. That means we all were somewhere before we came here for a purpose. Was doctor Samuel Johnson’s purpose to link up with medical lay persons who would help him to cure his prostate cancer and, thereby, humble him to humble his profession and expand the frontier of healing beyond intellectual capacities into the realms of Mother Nature and of the human Spirit. For anyone who has come to such a recognition, I would even add that some of our health challenges are even taking up by us as Mission Karmas before we were formed in the womb of our mothers.

In conclusion, I am convinced that the man or woman of herbs is never wanting in knowledge of them. In this regard, this column will present next week another herb which many senior Nigerians are saying has taken away their prostate gland nightmares.

Metal poisoning in the north: southerners, beware

As I was contemplating this column, another important health hazard story broke out in Northern Nigeria, swamping especially Sokoto and Zamfara states. Poisonous  heavy metals  which were making the rounds included Lead, Arsenic, Mercury and Cadmium. The report did not  say if the heavy metals were found in the air, water and food. They were the heavy metals which The Guardian Newspaper reported in the 1980s were present in Lagos State thousands of times more than the safe levels permitted by the World Health Organisation (WHO). Science reporter Seun Ogunseitan  found then that these metals were prevalent in underground water sources, especially in wells, around which were mismanaged waste dumpsites, and that the public water works had no equipment to remove them from the drinking water pipes for millions of people. This sparked a controversy about whether heavy metal toxcity may not be widespread in Nigeria and  may be a major cause of the growing rate of cancer and other killer diseases. It took about 30 years later for the the government of Lagos State to officially confirm that underground water was, indeed, poison. While heavy metals poisoning in Lagos maybe due to natural occurence, mismanaged waste dumpsites, traffic pollution and tyre burnsfires, the outlook in the Northm is still unclear. However, there are speculations that the major cause maybe a mishandling by the Chinese and Indians of illegal mines of gold and quantum energy minerals such as Lithium.

I cannot quickly abandon this subject despite the commitment I have to conclude the discussion on malaria and uterine fibroids begun last week from events in the United Kingdom and publications by Dr .Ignatius Onah. To  do so may amount somewhat to an act of irresponsibility when heavy metal poisoning in the North may easily spread to the South through the food chain, and in view of the ignorant expressed by Orthodox Medicine managers in the North that they alone can treat metal toxicity in humans. By ignorant, I refer to the public campaign by health authority to exclude Alternative Medicine Practitioners from the management of heavy metal poisoning. This campaign is somewhat funny because Alternative Medicine had been in the forefront of therapy and caregiving for heavy metal poisoning for hundreds of years when Orthodox Medicine use gold, for example, as medicine or did no more than supress symptoms of heavy metal presence in the bloodstreams and tissues.

For example, Alternative Medicine recognises that not all cases of depression and behaviour imbalances are due directly to brain misfunction. Heavy metal presence in the brain  has been found  largely responsible for many of them, and this has been why detoxification of brain, bloodstreams and tissues has always been the starting point of therapy in such ailments under Alternative Medicine. For example, Chlorella is employed to move heavy metals  out of the brain into the bloodstream and Cilantro employed to move them into the urinary system for excretion out of the body. For decades now, chelated minerals have joined the army of heavy metal detoxification agents. Chelation means attaching to, and dragging out from the body. Chelated Zinc is popular now and more expensive than Elemenal or plain Zinc. Sometimes ago, EDTA joined the league.EDTA is Ethylenediaminetetraacetic Acid. When  Ferdinand Munz introduced it into the market in 1930s, EDTA was jealously prescribed only by doctors. Now, it is freely sold in health food stores and online as capsules, powder and suppositories e.t.c.  In the 1980, I was excited by a reported side effect of EDTA. A gentleman was going blind because the vessels which supplied his eyes with blood were becoming blocked unknown to him.  His doctor gave him EDTA for blockages in his arteries which made him hypertensive. The hypertension disappeared, and his vision simultaneously improved because EDTA cleaned out those blockages in his eyes blood vessels as well.  Today, the internet described EDTA as fellows…”Ethylenediaminetetraacetic Acid  is a synthetic organic compound commonly used as a chelating agent, which means it can bind to metal ions, such as lead, mercury, and calcium, and help remove them from the body or a solution. It has various applications in medicine, industry, and research.”

The North of Nigeria may impact the South with heavy metals challenges if puddles of water on the surface of its illegal and unprotected open mines run off  into  farm lands and crops pick up these metals molecules which are then transferred to man through the  food chain. The air maybe a vector. So maybe streams and rivers which connect with Southern water resources. About two years ago, pilgrims to River osun in Southwestern Nigeria were asked  not to bathe in the river or to take its water home for drinking, as they previously did in Osun-Osogbo festival of rrituals, because the river was suspected to be metal polluted. Many people in Lagos eat fish from this river and may, thus, become exposed to heavy metal challenges in their bodies.

The risks of heavy metal toxicity can be grave, depending on the level of exposure and individual factors. The symptoms, may include mood swings, cognitive impairment, drooling, various degrees of memory loss, dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, nerve damage and neurological questions which may involve vision challenges, muscles and bone problems, intestinal issues, skin problems, respiratory problems and kidney damage, among  others.

     Dr. Ignatius Onah

I was talking about several well-packaged anti-malarial pharmaceutical drugs which may be selling in Nigeria, and have been found to cause kidney failure and damage in the United Kingdom (UK)… and Dr. Ignatius Onah’s evidence-based revelations that breast cancer and uterine fibroids are rampant now among women of African descent because hair shampoo,  hair growth creams, hair relaxers, reset oil and hair colourants nowadays contain toxic chemical substances. He said they  enter the bloodstream, disrupt and vandalise the endocrine gland system to cause this health”armageddon”. From the North came the news of an outbreak of metal poisoning among the population and the warning that Nigerian Traditional Medicine (NTM) Practitioners should not treat it. The government public health alert and warning did not immediately state which type of metal poisoning it was referring to, and it betrayed ignorance that Traditional Medicine of many countries have been treating metal poison for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. In Nigeria since the 1980s or much earlier, even Alternative Medicine Physicians have been educated enough to know that heavy metal detoxification and detoxification of other substances is the first step they must undertake in the treatment of any gruesome or cruel disease such as brain death threats, depression, Attention Deficit and Hyperactive Disorder( ADHAD), Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, dementia, neurological disorders, prostate gland challenges, uterine fibroids and cancers, among others.

    Back to Mrs. Obayuana

Irrespective of the importance of North  metal poisoning outbreak, this series will go to bed today.  In the first part,  literally speaking, I nervously searched for Mrs. Comfort Obayuana, of Health Ways whose activities with healing herbs kept many Nigerian families malaria free for some decades. The last time we spoke years ago about her seeming sudden disappearance from the natural health products scene, she said the high cost of diesel oil which powered her production lines compelled the retreat. What I have tried to do here, before I hurry to Northern Nigeria, is to recapture  years of the following safe, anti-malarial herbs on which Nigeria ought to have built, without lying prostate before importation of foreign drugs which may now be the root cause of kidney and other organ damage in near epidemic levels. If the purveyors of these toxic drugs can invade the United Kingdom and perhaps other European countries, irrespective of their sophistry, what chances against them has a country like Nigeria where public officials are like “born thieves” and are too ready to sell off their country for a pot of pottage?

    Uterine Fibroids

Like the growing rate of kidney troubles, uterine fibroids among women of all ages in Nigeria appear a ravaging epidemic. About three weeks ago, I heard the heart wrenching story of a 65-year-old woman who lived for some years with uterine fibroids of the size of a baby. Finally, she resolved it through surgery. Even then, she is not smiling now in victory  because her doctors said she had, meanwhile, developed endometrial cancer. This is the cancer of the endometrium, that is lining of the uterus or womb which is shed very month to kick-start menstruation if the egg descended from the ovaries is  not fertilised in the fallopian tube. This is an interesting development because, at 65, estrogenation should not be a problem of this woman, unless she is consuming chemical or exogenous estrogens from plastic packaging such as in water sachets or plastic bottles or from poultry egg, chicken, turkey, cow milk and estrogen-fed chickens. I sought a clue in anti-mosquito sprays and hydrocarbons. Dr. Ignatius Onah, a prolific writer on research findings, suggested in one of his articles last week that the uterine fibroids menace in Nigeria may be from hair dressing salons. There may be a great grain of truth in his statement because I did a quick rule-of-the-thumb check which seemed to confirm it. With my mind’s eye, I scanned the uterine profiles of many women who cannot do without a treatment with chemical relaxers, shampoos e.t.c. and those who long ago turned their backs on them, including my wife and immediate younger sister, and advised myself that almost everyone in the latter group had no history of uterine fibroid or even breast lumps.

This would have been a good harvest season for Mr. Sam Ayeni to bring to Nigeria Alafia Hair Care Products. They are made in the United States by some African Americans who imports the ingredients from Benin Republic and Cote d’Ivoire . The ingredients for the shampoos, relaxers, sprays, lotions and creams include palm oil and palm kernel oil, among others. Mr. Ayeni had business talks with the African-Americans when he went for Bragg Apple Cider Vinegar with Mother and Maria Treben Bitters. He gave up on a follow-up after sea pirates, operating legitimately as shippers, literally speaking, chopped off his fingers and making away with containers load of his Bragg orders.

This column has been urging him not to fear another step. Afterall, didn’t we all, as children learning to walk, not mistep and fall  several times before we learned to walk and to run?

    Back to Mrs. Comfort Obayuwana

This sub-heading is my peg for natural medicine for quelling malaria storms. Mrs. Comfort Obayuwana was making quite a number of them before she, too, stepped out of line. Here are suggestions for herbs which must always be in the Herbal First Aid Box of every Nigerian home, from my experience.

    Awopa Bark

It was one of the herbs which saved my life during an  encounter with  Corona Virus: Look-Alike Symptoms, Join the Lexicon….See facebook @johnolufemikusa. It was one of the plant medicines which bounced covid-19 from me. It was as though hot charcoals were placed all over my body. I lost appetite and could not sleep. I alternated, to see which was better, with boiling some cuttings and drinkng the water infusion, and soaking them in a glass bottle which I kept in the sun from sunrise to sunset to solarise the extracts and add some power from all Seven Colours of Light (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet). Our forebears did this for radiations of the sun or of the moon and stars in their medicinal portions or bath water. Not long after, the news went around from other sources worldwide to Nigerians in diaspora that this tree bark could save their lives.

    Chanca Piedra

Mrs Obayuwana of Health Ways made the powder of this versatile, ubiquitous evergreen plant for sale. When I suggested it to a young architect whose blood sugar count rose  to over 400, he went for it with a shrug of the shoulders. About one week later, he came to see me with a gift. His blood glucose level was only a few points from normal!  Opthalmologist Prof. Bukola Adefule-Oshitelu has added a feather to the cap of this plant Yorubas call Ehinbisowo or Ehin Olube. She has made an eye drop of it for glaucoma and cataract. Asians gave it the name Chanca Piedra or “stone crusher” because they say it dissolves kidney and gall bladder stones which often  require surgery to address. This plant is hypotensive, that is good for lowering high blood pressure, it’s an anodyne (pain-relieving) improves male virility and provides iron in anaemia. However, Chanca Piedra is more reputable in my view, as an anti-malarial. During my encounter with covid-19, I boiled it or solarised it as I did with Awopa Bark. I also soaked it in  aromantic schnapps and solarised. The outcome is not only a terrible weapon against  COVID-19…which are worse than malaria fever temperature but against blood sugar as well. When  boiled or solarised, chanca has a golden yellow colour. Solarised in aromatic schnapps, all the chlorophy 2 infused, I became afraid of it without food beside me!

    Karella

This product from Mrs. Obayuwana sold like hot cakes in Lagos and other parts of the country. Like Chanca, it was a  multi-purpose herb used more as ann anti-malarial. It is the  Indians who call it Karella. The English call it Balsam Pear and the Yorubas, Ejirin. In men and women, it may slightly offset fertility if taken in excess, but the fire returns almost as soon as it is withdrawn. There are some reports that it may work against uterine fibroids. Definitely, it is a good anti-malarial to have ready in the cupboard.

    Utazi

As Mrs. Obayuwana is an Igbo, you can trust her to not forget what this herbs represents in Igbo herbalism. Utazi is an ingredient in a  pepper soup brand that is given to women who have just been delivered of babies to help them rid abdominal tissues of fluid logs and prevent wrinkles. Against the malaria parasite, plasmodium, this plant can be a heavy duty warrior. As I often had malaria calls from the school of my Genotype AA son, I worked out an agreement with him. He loved the sweet protein-milk product Muscle Blast for building sport muscles. Boys love to grow tall and muscular. You men know why. This product is sugary, another problem. I got round that by emptying about four powder packs of Karella into the big jar of Muscle Blast until the sugar was virtually hidden. The product kept its proteins and cream. We defeated malaria in school!

    Egungun Eja

This is a Yoruba plant which translates in English as FishBone. So, many Yorubas at first assume it is powdered fish bone. However, it is only so named because the leaves have the shape of spinal contours in some fish.

    Pawpaw leaf

Like Egungun Eja, pawpaw leaves come in powder packaging from Mrs. Obayuwana’s Health Ways. The leaf stimulates platelet production to minimise or stop internal beeding. In Vitamin K-2 defficient persons, it has been used in Asia to stop dangerous bleeding in Dengue Fever caused by a particular breed of mosquito, has enzymes to destroy foreign proteins, including those of typhoid parasite. Above all, this is a wonderful anti-malarial.

    Lemon Grass

We probably underestimate it because it easily grows almost everywhere. I add two or three drops of Lemon Grass Oil to about 1.5 liters of water for re-hydration in malaria fever. One or two bottles are enough to quell the fever. I have not tried to solarise it or to extract its contents in gin. However, boiling it is popular in Nigeria. In almost every Nigerian village, it is known  as a malaria healer.

    Awogba Aarun

This is a cure for “200 diseases”, going by its Yoruba name. I grew it as an anti-snake in and around my house when I noticed their furs on the steps of the entrance door. They disappeared. Their smell is  so intense that I, too, sometimes step away from them. Passers-by who know this plant for malaria, migraines, Hypertensions cures stop over to ask for  leaves or seedlings. Some squeeze out the juice right there on the  road and massage it on their foreheads, around their necks or on the temples.

    Inexhaustible Bar

As we say of the bar at a pub or at a party, the “bar is inexhaustible” with Mother Nature when it comes to plant remedies for any ailment. It is as if she foresaw our carelessness and stupidity or ignorance and took the troubles to make provisions against every blunder. Thus, I cannot understand why we head on a dangerous mission to Sokoto (m:m:m) town for an anti-malarial recipe while what we  need is in Sokoto (d:d:d) pocket.

  • Anti-malaria drugs, genotype Aa and kidney disease (1)

Anti-malaria drugs, genotype Aa and kidney disease (1)

My heart goes out today to Genotype AA persons who, as we know, are malaria fever prone, and women, who, in pursuit of beauty, easily yield  to all sorts of chemical treatment of their  hair. Kidney disease and failure have grown in numbers in Nigeria over the last few years,  but many Orthodox doctors hardly see the springboard as their own  prescriptions. They are too quick, rather, to point accusing fingers at the potpourri of  multiple purpose herbal medicines cooked to boiling point and served in cup measures. While  it may be true that the purveyors may be overdosing their patients with unverified  chemicals molecules in some of these traditional medicines,it took the public alarm  in the United States Kingdom recently that several pharmaceutical drugs for malaria fever were actually destroying kidneys  for doctors to sit- up straight in their consulting chairs. Men and women who are Genotype AA maybe luckier persons in the marriage market over Genotype AS, SC or SS competitors. Nevertheless, they are underdogs  when the female Anophele mosquito comes for a pinch of human blood to mature its eggs. The AAs steadily fall victims of the Malaria plasmodium falciparum  parasite which the mosquito bites injects into the bloodstream, causing malaria fever. The ASs and SCs stand unshakeably like the proverbial Rock of Gilbratar.

I am Genotype AS and have not been in any hospital for 30 years, or for as long as I can remember, to be treated for malaria fever. I am bitten my mosquitoes every day.  If you put my resilience to not my genotype, but, to my immunity, I should give a thumps-up for mother nature because I am surrounded by some of the world’s best anti- malaria herbs. Everyday,I consume them, cooked, boiled or raw, with my meals. That is why I consider many of Nigeria’s public health officials to either be thieves, plain stupid or just ignorant persons when they bow to foreign pressure that Nigeria vaccinate against malaria or consume anti-malaria pharmaceutical drugs produced by Euro-Americans or Asian companies. Who, conscious of the blessings of mother nature, does not know that money transfers or even  the greasing of palms in addition, at the bottom of this felony?

Memories of many  Genotype AAs  who have overcome the malaria scourge race past the gaze of my inner eyes. The first is my wife, Dayo, and one of our children. The others like me Genotype AS, do not know what malaria is all about since they, too, learned to protect  themselves with anti- Malarial herbs. I often mentioned Udeme James on this page. She has been associated with my family in my small business for about six years now. Many visitors to who come for counseling in respect of malaria, asthma and sundry other challenges.know her as my personal assistant. That is where  knowledge of their ends.  Many do not know she was like them only a few years ago. At that time, a drop of rain water on her body was enough to send this young woman to hospital, and she had to carry Ventoline in her hand bag everywhere she went. She could cough for hours if she inhales motor  traffic smoke or found herself in a dusty environment. Perfumes were just as bad or worse. Today, however, I often warn  her that perf is getting heavier and tease her that I would offer no explanations to Israel if anything happened because I  did not approve of it. The rain season too, has bidden her bye. She works in the backyard garden  all morning and evening many days a week, forgetting  meals and unaffected by pollen. Except for a COVID-19 knock down in which I was the first to be caught, this woman has not given malaria a bow in the last five or six years. I hope that, some day, she  would be able to write  her story.

    Comfort Obayuwana

One woman who helps Genotype AA persons solve their malaria problems with safe, natural medicine is Mrs Comfort Obayuwana, of Health Ways. It is with due respect to all those men, women and children in the traditional medicine markets all over Nigeria that I single her out merely as a peg for the story about their wonderful upholding of Mother Nature’s medicines against malaria and man-made drugs which can damage the kidneys.  I wonder why  Mrs Comfort Obayuwana seems to have boxed herself   into retirement too early. Afterall, she is about one or two generations behind persons like me. And still agile. Since I became acquainted with her in the 1990s, Mrs Obayuwana sold health books, grew and sold ornamental flowers, a venture which gave her the name Madam Flower, an effort she crowned, with  her able assistant, Mr Earnest, with the growing of medicinal herbs and their sale. Through her, I knew no fewers than five of these anti-malarial medicinal plants. If  I am saddened by any politician in Nigeria, it was by Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola,  then Governor of Osun State. He asked of  what Osun State could do to improve its internally Generated Revenue (IGR).  I suggested a Nigerian company to produce all sorts of Nigerian herbs to be sold nation wide and abroad. At the then  Nigerian Council of Physicians of Natural Medicine, we  pressured for representation on  the Nigerian Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria(UMDCN) and made Dr. Magnus Atilade, a Chiropactor, our representative.  Several times, I proposed a Nigerian Herb Company  but made no headway. The closest we got to was a pharmacist in Awe town, near Oyo, who made his  pharmaceutical factory available to us and from where Dr. Fafure  tried to produce  a toothpaste brand,  Papiteeth. Ogbeni  Aregbesola went instead for an airport which two  succeeding governors over six  years now have been unable to fructify. Meanwhile, could Ogbeni Aregbesola not have incorporated or drafted persons such as  Mrs Comfort Obayuwana into this project, opening up vast arable land for” new uses of Agriculture” outside subsistence farming, creating jobs, and improving personal income for citizens and IGR for  government? Wouldn’t this project have given us  us plant medicines friendly with our kidneys and other organs?   Is governor Jackson Adeleke listening or is he still dancing or wrangling with predecessor Adegboyega Oyetola?

I said earlier  Mrs Obayuwana brought no fewer than five anti-malarial herbs to the table when we all can still avail ourselves of, rather than always globbling clinical anti-malarial drugs which may damage the kidneys and other organs. Any time I remember the story  of blind woman , I get cold. She was a medical student at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, until a doctor’s prescription from malaria drug damaged her sight. She fought on, nevertheless, change our course to psychology and graduating about two years ago. Our paths met sometime last year in ONPASSIVE, the internet giant in the making which may finally debut in  or  about July after several market lunch delays. Before I return to Mrs Comfort Obayuwana and her anti-malarial herbs from the treasure troves of mother nature, I would like to quickly mention the finding in the United Kingdom about kidney damaging anti- material pharmaceutical drugs which may be selling well in every corner of Nigeria. For what chances against them does this country have if these drugs can beat seemingly impervious safety networks of Great Britain? Making the rounds on the internet is the following warning about these drugs….

“The list of malaria drugs withdrawn from the market in the European Union. It is proved that these drugs are the cause of kidney failure that kills spontaneously.

This is a very serious matter. Serious medical opinions suggest that about 15 per cent of Nigerian adult population suffer from irreversible kidney failure. This is about 1 in every seven adult persons.  The major causes of this problems have been linked to Hypertension and diabetes millitus which, funny enough, are better managed or sorted out with herbal medicines, without dangerous side effect associated with pharmaceutical drug therapies.

I intend to discuss natural plants medicines which have freed many persons from the savage grip of malaria, Hypertension and diabetes millitus. Before then, however, I would like to refer to a publication on the internet by  prolific researcher and writer Dr Ignatius Onah. I plead that his publication be read by every woman and every lover of women…fathers, mothers, siblings brothers, other relations, friends and foes alike. The bottom line is that breast cancer and uterine fibroids have assumed epidemic proportions among women of all ages, and the search for solutions to them has engaged as many persons as anyone can imagine across the great gulfs of Orthodox medicine and other Medicine types, including but not limited to herbalism, homeopathy, chakra energy, quantum energy, Acupuncture, Anthroposophic and naturopathy. About two weeks ago, I was informed of a woman age 65 who was surgically delivered of  baby-seized uterine fibroids to her joy and her family’s only for the doctors to break another sad news to them. The endometrium, lining of the uterus had deteriorated to stage 2 endometrial cancer. Against the normal run of such cancers, they tend to spare menopausal  women because they produce lesser quantum of estrogen, a female hormone which is believed to drive cancers and uterine fibroids in younger women. The question anyone would then first ask is: where did the havoc- wreaking estrogen come from? what doctor Onah’s article is suggesting is that estrogen need not necessarily be the culprit. He says the culprit are the many toxic chemicals found in hair shampoos, relaxers, hair lotions, especially produce by Euro-Americans companies for dark skin women whose hairs, kinky, are not naturally relax like that of white women.  Dr Onah cites many research studies which show that that this toxic chemicals enter a woman’s bloodstream and interfere with the normal biochemistry  of the endocrine glands in no fewer than three ways. I will address this question in more details in another article. Meanwhile, pay attention to this short discussion by Dr Onah…

“Dr Onah makes this evidence-based claims in his article titled…Deadly hair chemicals! How relaxers, others, cause cancers, fibroids, infertility, etc in black females. And why you should avoid them all!.

Asked why he emphasised black women, he replied: “Non – Blacks don’t need relaxers, etc,  since their hair is “straight” enough?

What are the offending constituents in these hair products?

According to NIH (NAFDAC’ in USA), there are many such culprits, but the most outstanding ,as seen in hair products are:   “…..Parabens, Fragrances, Ponylphenols, and Diethyl Phthalate were commonly found in root stimulators, hair lotions, and Hair Relaxers.Others include Cyclosiloxanes, Formaldehyde, ..”

These chemicals are loosely grouped as Endocrine Disruptors(EDs).Endocrine disruptors are chemicals that interfere with the endocrine system. EDs can affect the body in three main ways:

•They may block the pathway between a natural hormone and a receptor.

    • They may act directly on a gland, causing it to make too much or too little of a hormone.

    • They may mimic a hormone, causing the body to overreact or to react at the wrong time…..”

Any strong evidence that EDs really cause harm?

An avalanche of such unimpeachable evidence has, literally, been flowing for many decades now.

     Evidence #1:

A news item seven years ago.

Topic: “Hair products for black women contain mix of hazardous ingredients”, published in Journal, Environmental Research. Newton, Mass, on April 25, 2018.

    Some Highlights:

     • “… First study to measure range of hormone disrupting chemicals in products used by black women

•… Black women are potentially exposed to dozens of hazardous chemicals through the hair products they use.

    • “Chemicals in hair products, and beauty products in general, are mostly untested and largely unregulated,” ….

    • Black women go through puberty at younger ages, and have higher rates of hormone-mediated problems such as pre-term birth, uterine fibroids and infertility than other groups of women.

Incidence rates of breast cancer and endometrial cancer among black women are also increasing.

    •  The new study looked at 18 different hair products including hot oil treatments, anti-frizz hair polishes, Leave-in conditioners, Root stimulators, Hair lotions, and Hair Relaxers…

    •  The researchers tested each product for the presence of 66 endocrine disruptors that are associated with a variety of health effects including Reproductive Disorders, Birth Defects, Asthma, and Cancer.

    • A total of 45 endocrine disruptors were detected in total, with each product containing anywhere between 6 and 30 of the target chemicals:

    • Hair relaxers marketed at children contained the highest levels of 5 chemicals prohibited in the EU or regulated under Proposition 65.

    •  Parabens, fragrances, nonylphenols, and diethyl phthalate were commonly found in Root Stimulators, Hair Lotions, and Hair Relaxers.

    • 84 percent of chemicals detected were Not Listed on the product label!

    • “Black women are over-exposed and under-protected from toxic chemicals,…

•This study is evidence that hair products are an important source of toxic chemicals and that we need to remove these risks to protect black women’s lives and prevent harm….”

      Evidence #2:..

Topic:  A link between fibroids & relaxer use?!

“…A new study in the American Journal of Epidemiology has linked hair relaxers to uterine fibroids, as well as early puberty in young girls.

•Scientists followed more than 23,000 Pre-menopausal Black American women from 1997 to 2009 and found that the Two- to Three-Times higher rate of fibroids among black women may be linked to chemical exposure through Scalp Lesions and Burns resulting from Relaxers.

•Women who got their first menstrual period Before the age of 10 were also more likely to have Uterine Fibroids, …

•…early Menstruation may result from Hair products black girls are using, according to a separate study published in the Annals of Epidemiology last summer…”   [Published February 23, 2012]

     Evidence #3:

“… In October 2022, the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) published a study that found women who used hair relaxers more than four times a year were at a higher risk of uterine cancer. The study marked a tipping point in the US, building on more than a decade of scientific research in which women’s exposure to chemicals known as endocrine disruptors appeared to correlate with the development of uterine and breast tumours…”.

The good news is that many Nigerian women would appear to have properly read the handwriting on the wall and are changing over to natural hair products, including Shea butter, coconut oil, rosemary oil, palm kernel oil, amla oil, avocado oil, almond oil, rice water, fenugreek oil and seed and clove oil e.t.c.

Where is Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola? Is he listening? Would he not have been better remembered today as a formal Governor and of Osun State if his government set up a Nigerian plants medicines company to produce these things? His incumbent Governor Jackson Adeleke listening? Is formal Governor Adegbeyoga Oyetola  remorseful?

What I say of them I say, also, of past and present Governors of the South-South region in respect of gigantic deposits of Nsu under their soil which the world market needs but which we cannot purifier and import in the form of diatomaceous earth or diatom. Read about it on the internet and see what we are loosing. As President of Nigeria,  Good luck Ebele Jonathan had no time to read proposals for a diatom industry in Southsouth Nigeria. Senate President Godwin Akpabio, as Governor of Akwa Ibom State,  failed to develop the diatom industry in Ikot Ekwere Itam after women exploiters were barred( till this day) from prospecting it. In the second part of this series, I will return to  Madam flower Comfort Obayuwana and herbs that can easily knock out malaria without the need for anyone to consume dangerous Pharmaceutical drugs which may be circulating in Nigeria and causing irreversible kidney failure.

  • 2025 International Women Day: Pursuit of caricatures!

2025 International Women Day: Pursuit of caricatures!

What is woman, and why are all the troubles of the earth heaped on her door step? Only persons who can see well beyond their noses can answer these questions correctly.

Seeing well beyond the nose means rising beyond seeing woman as wife and mother and as an underdog in power relations with man. If we give the Almighty Creator the honour of perfection, including a definitive role for everything He created, we may see pictures of woman different from the ones we see on earth today.

Today, all problems on earth are heaped on the door step of woman. We are constantly informed that the state of a nation is the state of its womanhood. The troubles in the nation womanhood is often accused of formenting are not limited to illnesses from anti-Creation nutrition, broken homes, disoriented and deliquent society, social storms, gender disequilibrium, the fall of man and enthronement of the intellect, increasing separation of humanity from God, social and economic disasters, poverty, parenting failure and spiritual damnation of earth dwellers.

I wish I could limit these questions to woman as a cause of unending serious numerous health problems of today by asking only one simple question: Why was the simple Akwa Ibom woman of 50 years ago able, for example, to have nine children without the gynaecological problems which severely delimit today’s woman to no more than two or three children? Was it because she was a woman in and out, womanly, and today’s woman is a woman only in her physical body and less than a woman within her essence or ego? Is a woman still a womanly woman when she is a paratrooper, footballer, wrestler, soldier, pilot, boxer, politician, academic and a public bus driver? These questions come on the heels of the 2025 International Women’s Day observed in Nigeria on March 8, during which, literally speaking, women, again, demanded to become men.

They even demanded reservation of parliamentary seats for women when the constitutition forbids gender favouritism and discrimination, and the President agreed to support their lobby.

The definition of woman I subscribe to is the creature with a delicate inner essence which formed her delicate physical body, deliberately for a purpose.

I got the spiritual message from High School Physics… sound travels faster and better in air than in water or more solid body such as a rock. The Creator did not send humankind to the earth and abandon them.

The delicateness, looseness and permeability of the woman body permit messages from Him to easily permeate her as a storehouse of power for man nwho was created for coarse work on earth and whose coarse body for this task was not as readily receptive to currents of powder from on High.

Thus, woman and man were created for different purposses, woman for receptivity, man to work the earth and make it paradise like, with woman standing behind him as a storehouse of power and not beside or before him. Seeking to become man and coarse, she disturbs this creation  Plan and causes all the troubles heaped on her door step.

Today, I yield the floor to a gentleman who, like me, believes woman is hardly any longer woman, and has given rise to severe damage of humanity by not pursuing True Womanness but Caricatures of Woman.

This gentleman is Samuel Sola Faboya, 76, a civil servant in the Western Region of Nigeria, Ondo and Lagos state. He is a thinker and offers rare insights into controversial questions which appear to defy solutions. Sometimes, as in this case, he offers his ideas in newspapers. Some of his publications are…

a). Islam and the Great Error ( The Punch)

b). In defence of The Nigeria Police (The Punch ) and

c). Woman, Know Thyself ( The Guardian). His original title for the article which follows is… 2025 INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY IN RETROSPECT. The title of the column … 2025 International Women’s Day: PURSUIT OF CARICATURES! is mine.

On 8 March 2025, United Nations international Women’s Day was commemorated globally. In many cities all around the world, there were well intentioned gatherings at different fora, where issues and concerns affecting the ranks of womankind on Earth were wholesomely contemplated.

Decisions were taken to improve the material lot of women in their communities.

The Commemoration is, arguably, the most important of all the other events, when recognition and knowledge become more widely known, about the pre-eminent role of Woman, in the human society.

Hitherto, all the contemplations and decisions that have taken place at different fora globally… have consistently revolved around the socio-political and socio-economic circumstances of the Womenfolk!

We must be reminded that, for the past five decades, women have had to shake off complacency and passivity, to resolutely demand equity and social Justice… along with unfettered access to political and business opportunities. Kudos to all the women who have courageously spoken up, when and where it was expedient to speak, and, also, acted expediently, when it was timely to act!

All in all, it can be said that measurable progress has impacted the social, political and economic circumstance of women globally!

If the question is asked hypothetically, on the floor of the United Nations General Assembly as to Who Woman Is intrinsically, or, in other words, What Exactly Constitutes The Natue And Inner Being of The Woman, the answer would most likely be greatly influenced by concepts from the Adam and Eve narrative, in the Garden of Eden story. Strangely, many people who have held on (in faith) to that allegorical narrative have never asked themselves, whether a snake (the Serpent) such as reportedly engaged Eve, have ever spoken again, in human language, to any other human creature, after the momentous Garden of Eden incident! The Garden of Eden narrative, though, an allegorical narrative, was indeed conceived through spiritual inspiration and providentially adapted to the receptive capacity and maturity of mankind at the time!

No sensible mother on Earth would give a hamburger to a newly born baby. To that extent, therefore, the Divine that is Omniscient would not give to human creatures a body-of-knowledge which they will be unable to spiritually digest and assimilate!

The Adam and Eve narrative was and remained a beautiful, helpful and apt allegory, regarding the incarnation of human beings on earth and their subsistence thereon. It was, aptly, relevant to that epoch of human evolution and maturing development.

The feminine figure that we see as Woman among us in the human community on Earth still largely remains, an engaging enigma! It is said of her that… “the Hand that rocks the cradle, rules the world”.

This is a very true statement, rightly understood! It is also said of her… “behind every successful man, is a Woman”.

This is also what mankind have found to be true.To indeed rule the world, as indicated in the first statement, does confirm that she singularly influences and decides the fate of mankind, to a very large extent, in the expansive cycle of existence.

To be behind every successful man, indeed, confirms the critical supportive factor that she will ever remain, in the fulfillment or non-fulfillment for the man, as a provider for the home.

With the foregoing picture of the positive benevolent figure that she is, we should begin to ask ourselves why the ranks of Women on Earth had to ever go picketing, or carry placards in protest, before according to her, the honour of giving to her and, timely too, what is due to her! Before we humans can point accusing fingers in this connection … a “finger” is already being printed at her! And from where? … From Above! The finger is literally saying that she has not “completely” fulfilled her roles, as ordained by her Awesome Creator. When the “Eye” of her ever benevolent Creator now sees her in a long picketing line of protest, at times under very inclement weather… Her Creator would ask the question… “who has disempowered Woman, my creature… for her to have felt neglected, deprived, humiliated and unfairly treated”?

Her Creator who had invested her with exquisite wealth of endowments, for the general upliftment of mankind, however knows, that the pass-mark of Woman, for her service to be acceptable to Him… “is a hundred-per cent”.

Anything less is out of it! is a fairytale! Nine-nine percent is Not a pass-mark for her!

The Loyalty and commitment He expects from Womanhood to the Creative Will is absolute. No more… no less!

Let us look at the following two scenarios, for us to have glimpses of the positive Power and influence, which can emanate from the Woman… but which have not been pervasive and strong enough, to prevent humanity from morally drifting into the perilous danger of cosmic upheaval, that threateningly draws closer and closer, with each passing day!

In the first scenario, a well-dressed lady suddenly enters a room, where there were men drinking beer, and relishing rough immoral jokes.

The moment they sight the lady… THEY ALL STOP and this will be so for as long as she remains in that room! In contradistinction, to the entry of a girl in hot pants or thighs revealing, skimpy-skirt and a top, revealing her cleavages! The spontaneous response from the men would be suggestive whistling and such overtures, as to get her to share drinks with them and “enjoy” their company!

What is relevant to our reflection, on the commemoration of the International Women’s Day, is the response/reaction, to the first lady, whose presence, immediately stopped and restrained their further regression, into untoward exchanges. In the inner make-up of Woman is an incisive restraining Power that inhibits moral descent. Unfortunately, this incisive and uplifting Power has not been forthcoming consistently from Womanhood for it to be pervasive in the human community. This is why Woman could often find herself exposed and at the receiving end of acts of bestiality and brutality from the male. It is only the Woman that can refine the Man… And make a gentleman, of him! This is a recognition that awaits mankind in the nearest future.

The second scenario is a true and factual story which my late father told me. There was this very influential and powerful monarch in Ekiti State, whose domain was about 10  kilometers from my town! He became very oppressive to our town, harassing and intimidating our people. Matters soon came to a head and the men were determined to resist, by going into armed conflict. The men were on the verge of taking that final decision, when the women of the town restrained the men and requested that they, the women, should be allowed to step into the matter, and they did!

On a fateful morning, a band of women trekked from my town to see the monarch, whose mother, ironically, was a native of my town! They got to his palace, a storey-building with a balcony. He appeared to them, after keeping them standing for a while … and started raving contemptuously at them.

As he leaned on the railings of the balcony, lo and behold, the royal beads on his neck snapped and dropped right down, from his neck … and lay in front of the women! He knew immediately that he was in big trouble and immediately sent for his Chiefs, to help him placate the aggrieved women! He knew, in trado-cultural context, the grave implications of what had happened to him! The Women listened to the pleadings … And that was the day, he oppressionstopped!

What is the take-away from this? A band of Women decided to stand up for justice and instantly, got a remedy! That is just a glimpse of how women could be incisively and decisively effective for good, when they have not compromised or mortgaged what I can now call and term … “the Woman … in a woman”. There is indeed… the “Woman”, in a woman, which presupposes an instructive but sacred duality, in the figure, standing and person of the woman!

The monarch, that my towns-women engaged, in their legitimate quest for justice had a raw taste of the cutting-edge of the “Woman in a woman”. A sacred trust however, goes with the outworking of this divinely ordained duality, in the spiritual make-up of the feminine figure that we know as Woman on Earth! This sacred trust must never be breached through wrong aspirations and vanity…! If and when this happens, the reciprocal consequences for the guilty woman, is too grave to imagine.

Commemoration of the International Women’s Day to date has been one sided as the perspective employed has always been from the socio-political and socio-economic angles! These have only addressed the material and physical circumstances of the Woman of contemporary times! Curiously though, the generation of educated women are contented with the seeming improvements in employment and better access to business opportunities. While acknowledging these apparent improvements, the tragedy, is that womanhood on earth, is still a stranger to who she is… seen from above without realising it.

It needs to be revealed at this point that, the primary obligation and challenge facing the woman of contemporary times, is to get know more about the finer and stronger side of her nature, her being… her spiritual make-up to which she is still a complete stranger! And so long as she stands in reprehensible ignorance of this situation… so long, would she find herself at the receiving end of demeaning and bestial acts from her male counterpart (regardless of being a Harvard/Cambridge graduate) who is still largely immature though, in many respects. The deficient social systems cannot possibly fill these gaps.

What in real terms, makes a human creature to evolve into the male or female gender, is far above and beyond the knowledge of genetics and the interplay of genes, chromosomes and all that! The male or female gender, are consequential results of decisions prenatally taken (which can no longer be consciously recalled) to either work passively in Creation, which conditions such creature to evolve into a female creature and assume the typical female form; or, to work actively in creation, which correspondingly conditions that creature to evolve into a male entity, as it were! The woman is loosely constituted physically, with no bulging biceps; while the man is more solidly constituted physically, for reasons of the physical realities he has to face and contend with, on earth.

These aforementioned decisions/options, once made are literally irreversible, but can be weakened, compromised and undermined, through reckless human waywardness which can then weaken the creature’s inherent nature, giving rise to such human distortions, that we have come to know today, in LGBTQ, transgenderism phenomena… the causes of which still continue to baffle right-thinking mankind!

With a human creature opting at the morn of its conscious existence, to work passively in Creation, the Perfection and Omniscience in the outworking of the Creative Will, automatically, endows that female creature with an additional spiritual Gift… which exists to support and uplift the positive aspirations of mankind, enabling her to thus serve as the connecting-bridge between mankind on Earth… and the higher planes of existence, which are still largely closed to modern science and the generality of mankind today. The avoidable disconnect arising from this, have taken its toll on the content, value and direction of human life on earth. The aforementioned divinely endowed Gift, is … the “Woman in a woman”. The male sex basically lacks this Gift. Women therefore stand higher spiritually, than men for this simple reason.

Woman is to bring, to bear on mankind, such incisive virtuous influence, as would impact edifyingly on the humanity in Man… a humanity that has been degraded, debased, and given a wrong direction, the consequences of which mankind is currently groaning under.

It is blatantly unnatural for a woman to incline towards masculinity, while it is grossly undesirable for a man to become effeminate. A woman who strongly inclines towards masculine characteristics, will in time weaken “the woman” in her being. This weakening may oblige her to reincarnate as a Man. Yes, we would then see a man standing before us, but “he” is a woman in spirit! Such a “man” will be attracted through the homogeneity of mutual distortion to … a “woman” with all the external physical features of a woman … but she is a ‘man in spirit through distortion! These are the strange abberations of the present times. The key to the understanding of this bizarre phenomenon is, Spiritual Knowledge of the Laws of the Creative Will.

And lest we forget… so long, as rape, pornography, incest, gender violence thrives and subsists on Earth… Womankind would always have a case to answer before their Awesome Creator, who endowed them so gloriously that they may work in gracefulness, in the human community on Earth. It is within the realm of possibility for spiritually awakened Womanhood, to work for the complete effacement of these evil vices and odious outgrowths, from the face of the Earth. These are the primary issues that should engage the minds of Women at the commemoration of the International Women’s Day. This is where to start from… For Womanhood, the admonition should ideally… be “Seek ye first, the reorientation of the Woman in a woman, and all other things shall be added “

The WOMAN… in a woman, must be discovered, shielded, protected and employed to serve only the Divine Creative Will! That will then mark the beginning of a long-awaited moral resurrection of Mankind and the Earth itself.

  • Ramadan, lent: detox, energy, other questions (2)

Ramadan, lent: detox, energy, other questions (2)

We do not have to be de-energised, inactive or look livid simply because we are fasting, if we can  partner with Mother Nature in the nurture of our bodies. Partnering with Mother Nature brings many models. The ones I describe here are either the ones I discovered or are those other persons told me. I hope  they would help persons who wish to always keep their bodies alive when they fast.

In the 1970s, I was privileged to read  in a small book of the efforts of a wise one to set up a company which would produce whole grain flour foods from whole grains in which the life forces are well preserved. My response to the information so far are  two sets of flour foods which I obtain quarterly from Mrs. Folake Sanusi of Oshogbo. The first is composite corn pap flour from the whole grains of white corn, yellow corn, millet and sorghum. They are picked, washed, oven  roasted and ground to powder. The second is cassava flour to which the composite  flour of white corn, yellow corn, milliet and sorghum is added. I eat the corn pap as pap and the cassava and corn flour or lafun as “swallow”. Either is so fillling that I hardly need a second large meal in 24 hours. There had been times I ate the lafun  for dinner by seven or eight and my next serious meal was 24 hours later.  The pap is also that filling. If I like, I may have a breakfast of banana or pawpaw when I have either  corn pap for dinner. Sometimes, rice and beans or beans and potato may breaks the monotony. I should add that this diet has room for rich bowls of vegetable soup, raw leaves and power houses of nutritional supplements.

Abasiama Ekong, a friend of Udeme James who runs the pantry and kitchen, often wonders how a human  can relishly  consume a bowl of raw leaves like a goat. I remind her of  High School biology. Human bodies, not the humans themselves, are  rightly reported to have descended from the most developed or matured animals of those days, a fact which makes every human body describable as a higher animal. It is a pity that Charles Darwin in  his theory of evolution could not at that time differentiate man from his body. We, to whom this knowledge has been given in the extension of spiritual knowledge for earthlings at this time, owe it a duty to the generation of Darwin to save them from their ignorance and misinformation. I believe I have cleared the way out of the thicket for Miss Ekong. Now, she brings JIGSIMUR to the table for everyone! She has never witnessed anything that bitter, not even unwashed bitter leaf! My bowl of raw leaves comprises at least two leaves of the fellowing (a) unwashed bitter leaf (b) vervain (c) lettuce (d) one stalk of oregano (e) Chanca piedra (f) nettle or strands of pawpaw leaf or renren (Yoruba name for pepper elder or shiny bush). They are rich in fiber, vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants, phenolic compounds, enzymes e.t.c. Eating them with morsel of food that are  thoroughly chewed provide nutrients that may be lost through cooking, they not only aid digestion but, also, offer  immune support. The intestine is such a toxic part of the body that many authorities say about  75 per cent of immune system energy and attention are devoted to it. These leaves are anti-bacterials, anti-viral, anti-fungal and anti-parasite, apart from being nutritive. It is a possible that  inadequate attention we give the intestine is responsible for many cases nowdays of bleeding ulcers and cancer in the colon. An unprotected colon may, also, develop Leaky Gut Syndrome when germs  successfully nibble its tissue. When the colon leaks on the prostrate gland, for example, could this be  the cause of the infection, inflamation and enlargement  of this organ, even if a cancerous attack is a more complex event?

My  model of nutrition is not  done with raw  leaves or eating  at  table like a goat.  Udeme, too, has  become a master of it. Power foods are in the  league as well. This is one reason I no longer fidget when I am  told  I am having white  rice, because I know what is coming is green, enriched rice, dangerous parboiled foreign rice or healthier Nigerian. Spirulina may accompany the rice, pap or soup. It is  a blue-green algae with  all 18 amino acids, essential amino acids inclusive of chlorophyll and Beta carotene, not to mention vitamins and minerals, cofactors e.t.c.  The National Aeronautics and Space Administration ( NASA) of the United States declared it Power  Food of the 21st Century long ago, and the  World Health Organisation ( WHO) recommended it for children. African inhabitants of the Lake Chad  region deserve gratitude from  humanity for this  plant which Europeans visitors discovered to be  the source of their protein. Through oral  tradition, they inform  us that  visitors from  space revealed Spirulina to their  progenitors. On many wooden doors in their  land are  engravings of what look like  space ship an a ringed planet.

Any-one searching for an energy formula at this  time or at any other should keep Pine Pollen or Been Pollen or Royal Jelly or Lecithin at table. When Hassan Oyekan, who has been fasting since  he was 10, that  is  for more than 25 years now, telephones me and speaks of Pine Pollen, he is hilarious because of what he says it does to him. That is  a prized secret between us. Bee pollen is no less an energy agent. Royal Jelly is an exclusive foods of the bee queen which  lays  millions of eggs in her  life time. Lecithingives  the brain choline and inositol to fire the neurons  for nerve energy through out the body. In my view, the hardest nut  of a Ramandan fast  is abstinence from  water  in the  sunlight  hours. The body is between 70 and 75 per cent  water.  surprisingly, I often do not  remember I have  not taken water in  these hours. Refrigerant foods  and herbs, of which I may  speak, account for  this.

    Detoxification

When we fast, energy for digestion  is spent on detoxification, to expand work in the removal of waste and Poison. Therefore, the  approximately 100 trillion cells in the body off load their waste and toxins into the bloodstream. The blood transports the wastes and toxins to the  eliminative organs…the lungs, the liver, bowels, the kidneys and the skin.  In about four different steps, the liver first breaks down these watste and toxins into less toxic substances before they are  exported to the other organs and, then, out of the body by the others. This processes require water for hydration and transportation. When we wish to wash an empty soup pot, sometimes with some  burns in it,do we not first  soak it with water before we lather the water with soap and then wire brush it with an abrasive sponge? However, the Ramadan does not permit the drinking of water or other fluids from sunrise to sunset. Unfortunately, many faithfuls over load their bodies with food after the sunlight hours, thereby over working them  than before the Ramadan.

In the Circadian rhythm of the body, the fellowing work schedules have been observed by many cultures, scientists and doctors.

    1. 4a.m to 12 noon… Detoxification. That is why we go to wee and to pooh when we rise from bed in the mornings

    2. 12 noon to 8p.m…Digestion. This is when Nature expects that we  trouble the body much with food. It is probably why Euro-American breakfast is light, comprising about four slices of bread, some butter, one egg and one or two cups of tea or coffee, even in the cold seasons, and why those fellows eat ravenously in the afternoon, when the sun is  high, energising plants, animals and man and the earth. I am yet to see native chickens or goats which do not fellow this rythm and do not return to from their forage to sleep in the homes of their owners from about 6.pm, when humans  begin to load their bodies with all sorts of food, some  light, others heavy.

    3. 8.P.m to 4a.m…This is the time Nature allots to absorption of nutrients from food  into the blood stream. Thus, we disturb the rythm of Nature when we eat when we should be digesting, eliminating wastes and toxins or absorbing nutritients from digested food. One process will subduce the order or both will be partially done, creating backlogs of work which would eventually cause biochemical and physiological stresses uneasiness, disease and illnesses. This scenario will cause cloggings and Heavy Blood. When there is too much solute (food) in the system and too little solvent (water), a number of things, including”thickened” blood, may happen. Reduced blood water volume may cause reduction of the blood vessels lumen. This is the space the blood volume occupy in the vessels to prevent air infiltration. It is like a vacuum- sealed environment.  If water level in the cells and around the cells drops,  the blood water volume may yield  some water to them to prevent cellular break-downs.Almost simultaneously, the blood vessels lumen, internal space of the blood vessels, will reduce, to prevent the space vacated by water from being taken up by air and leading to the possibility of  AIR LOCKS. An air  lock is when air separates or create air space in the bloodstream. This may be dangerous to life.

Meanwhile, the thick blood is osmotically stronger than its environment. Remember Osmosis in high school biology? It enables the stronger environment to withdraw water from a weaker one through a semi permeable membrane. Thus, when the thick blood arrive in the brain or any organs, it sucks up its water to make itself less thick so it can easily flow. That is why we experience headache(s) when thick blood enters the brain. The solution may be to drink a few glasses of warm water intermittently. Unfortunately, many persons resort to pain killer instead of addressing the root cause of this problem.Pain in the organs may have arisen, also, from thick blood. In the kidney, urine colour gets more yellowish or darker, and we may experience kidney pain as back pain.

Thus, when we fast, we should not overload the body  with food in the times of the day we are permitted to eat.Eat the right foods especially those less bulky most energising and support our  nutrition with detoxify herbs.

Some useful herbs. We need refrigerant herbs and  foods which flood the body with metabolic water. We should remember, also, that if we drink all the water in the world, our kidneys will run it out  unless there is enough sodium to hold it. I don’t suggest sodium chloride or table salt. This is refined sodium and can be dangerous, especially to be hypertensive. My gift for Mecca pilgrims  is sea salt. It has about 40 or more biochemic substances which function synergically with Sodium to make it safe.  I give sea salt to Mecca pilgrims because the weather is hot. Many of them return to thank me and to give me present for my thoughtfulness. They  add only one pinch  of sea salt to their water two or three times a day, depending  on the  stress levels. Right now in Nigeria, the weather is very hot. I never used  to sweat in the armpits and in the groins, but now I do.  Sea Salt in my meals replaces sodium and energises me. Some aged persons die in a time such as this from heat stroke because, as in a car radiator with low water volume and burning gaskets and knocking  engines, their blood water volume, like the cellular water  and interstititial fluid (space around the cells which hold  sodium are drying up!

Nigeria is blessed with many herbs and proprietary plant medicines.  Stingy nettle is one of the best herbs for cleansing the blood. Stingy nettle is better, but rare to find in just about any place. The proprietary brand is often available, however. Jobelyn is good for recomposing the blood. In several control studies, it has  shown ability to almost normalise within 24 hours depleted blood hematocrit.Upcoming is South African liquid drink named Jigsimur. It is backed with the medicinal values of Lime Juice.  In several experiment, many germs have revealed their inability to survive in lime juice. In 1747, Dr  James Lind ended the era of scurvy in England when he gave sailors Lime in their drink. Many often returned from voyages abroad with most, if not all of their teeth gone, because they had cross deficiencies of vitamin C.  What lime juice contribute to Jigsimur is Citric Acid of friendly bacteria in the intestine which controls the population of unfriendly bacteria  and, rather than friendly bacteria ( PROBIOTICS), is what producers of today’s yogurt now add directly to their fermented milk products.

In this season, as in any other, we may also count on proprietaries as Amazon Blood Support and Rejuvenating Drink which  stimulate production of more stem cells from the bone marrows. This neutral cells migrate around the body and donate themselves to communities of specialised cells such as the liver, retina, gums, kidneys e.t.c,  where they are damaged, dead or dying cells to be replaced. We may also count on the following to improve the vigour of the blood.

Personally, I assumed the liver needs protection most during detoxification. All the poison released from the cells  during a fast will be  sent to the liver to break down into less harmful substances. I always liken the liver  to a fireman who must be attired in low or non-combustible uniform during fire fighting.

Milkthistle…is one of the most well-known hepa- protectives. In controlled studies, animal fed carbon tetra chloride, terrible poison, died in- masses. Mortality was mild in another group fed with milk thistle along with these poison. Other animals on Milk thistle food supplement before they were given the poison did not die.

Carqueja …cleans the liver out. Golden Seal Root, taken one week on and one week off, kills germs.

Amazon A-V kills viruses in particular while Amazon A-F destroys bacteria and fungi. Dandelion struts between the kidneys and the liver. Jerusalem Artichoke works wonders. We should remember pawpaw leaf, chanca piedra, bitter kola, bitter leaf, oregano leaf e.t.c. I do not leave the brain and the eyes out of my therapy at this time. They are bombarded by toxins and wastes during  detoxification.

Chlorella… helps the detoxifying heavy metals in the brain which may make some person brain sick or present depression like symptoms. Unfortunately, psychiatrists merely suppress these symptoms with drugs often taken throughout life because they either know little or nothing about heavy metals in the brain or chose to not believe in it for the safe of their drugs prescription. Thus, many seemingly incurable brain diseases have been eased or cured, using herb and diet.An example I will never forget is a well-known Nigerian” Brain Dead” woman. She was taken abroad to her daughter and son-in-law,both doctors. Reconfirmed brain dead, she was send back home to live a vegetables life.Local Therapists took over. This presumed  Brain Dead woman recovered and went on to study for and earn a Ph.D. degree!.

    Still on the brain

Gotu Kola…drives blood into  the two hemispheres of the brain. I knew of its value and that  of Ginkgobiloba during several years of 11am to 1am work schedules in the Editor’s chair of The Guardian and The Comet newspapers.

    Wonderful Kola

Compliment them, energising the entire body. Detoxification often comes with Die- off- Effect. An illness being treated suddenly gets worse with Inflamation, pain e.t.c.

Curcumin… quietens it. It maybe obtained from natural temeric (that yellowish portion) or from very powerful proprietary brands named curcumin 2000X because  the curcumin has been complexed  with natural anti-inflammatory to make it 2,000 times more powerful than natural curcumin. I cannot forget  OMEGA-3 Fish Oil and Magnesium Thronate which has been reported to revive many brains in dementia or ravaged by depression.Ditto Coconut Oil which offered ketones to brain  cells suffering from Diabetes of the brain..

    Other Questions

This have to do with conceptions and misconceptions of fasting. The general conception is that, by agreeing to fast during a religious fast, all by condescending, all of one sin would be automatically erased and one’s name would be engraved in The Book of Life. Personally,I belive it is the change the fast brings about in the spirit which makes the difference. We must personally atone for all sins. When we become new within, that is when we become  born-again, the returning karma would find a different and pure soul. It would  then bounce back beacuse it has no homogeneous soul to attach to for an impact. It may  even be disintegrated before it reaches us if our vibration have become powerful and opposite enough to shatter it. An example I mentioned in the first article of this series was the fast of King David to save the life of his first  son by Bathsheba, the woman he seduced from her husband and had put to death in a war to cover his tracks. The boy died irrespective of David’s fast, covering his body with ash and wearing rags.

I  vacate the floor on this column for the opinions of readers on the subjects which catch their fancy. Otunba Olajuwon Okubena has the floor today.

Except for the nicety of protocol, I doubt if he needs any introduction in Nigeria’s Alternative Medicinescommunity.

Nevertheless,we must follow procedure. Otunba Okubena and I met in Nigeria’s Alternative Medicines market in 1994 when he was about to push into the market his herbal medicine recipe from five plants in Yorubaland which, today, goes by the name Jobelyn. This medicine, which began its journey as a blood “normalised” and “ energiser” passed laboratory checks well enough at the pharmacognosy department of the University of Lagos Teaching Hospital (LUTH) to be described by The Guardian newspaper of which I was Editor in-chief as “the fastest blood generator known then as Jubi Blood Formula.

This product would later be marketed for sickle cell anaemia crisis, inflamation, low blood count and low heamatocrit and, later, for diabetes when a former President, diabetic, said it was giving him the vibes.

Today, many Nigerian university studies behind it for such ailments as HIV and depression,Jobelyn has ventured more into the cancer market than it did in the late 1990s and early 2000s through foreign studies and registration by the United States National Cancer Institute(NCI) in its Essential Drug List. Above these grounds, Otunba Okubena, who was 83 on March 5, 2025, has shown such passion for the growth of Alternative Medicine and Traditional Medicine (TM) globally that makes him qualified, in my view, to offer the Government of Lagos State Suggestions for cuurricular design for the University of Medicine and Medical Services (LASUNMED?)which will soon be unfurled before the world’s medicine lord’s and community. Before this qualification,Otunba Okunbena was an account teacher at Ladigbolu Grammar School, Oyo (1965), Chief Accountant, Guiness( Nigeria)Plc(1967-1974), Executive Director at Peat,Warwick, Mitchell & Co(1974-1983). On 21 August 1993, Armed men attacked him and his daughter, a Veterinary medicine doctor, on his poultry farm, BENA FARM, at Ijebu Ilese, near Ijebu-Ode. The young woman passed, he was gravely injured.

He regained his body and mind from the therapies on Jubi Blood Formula which he received from a retired forestry worker, Mr Awoyemi, in Ibadan. Otunba Okubena researched this formulation and branded it Jobelyn for NAFDAC registration after back and forth business decisions. He has taken Jobelyn to many countries in Africa, Europe and the United States…and even tried his hands on an Alternative Medicine Hospital run by Orthodox medical doctors. Last week, he sent to me his views on the this column published under the title THUMBS-UP, LAGOS FLAGS OFF FIRST UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE (this article can be read on Facebook @John Olufemi Kusa). Before I give him the floor, I wish to make some comments on one or two statements he made in passing which I thought deserved elaboration. One of them was the mention of Standford University School of Medicine in research work which has advanced believability in natural medicines globally. He mentioned Harvard University in this regard as well. The references were intended to challenge authors of Lagos State University of Medicine and Medical Services to make it not a regular medicine teaching university but that which would fellow the global trends in paradigm shift from medicines formulated by man’s intellect to those created by Almighty God in His Infinite Wisdom and Goodness. Standford and Ulcer. Millions of Nigerians suffer from ulcer every year, some for life or with the danger of tissue damage resulting in cancer. I fellowed the case of Pa Oye- Igbemo, a former General Manager of the Federal Savings Bank, now of blessed memory. His friend, Mr Adeniji, of Shagamu, can confirm this case. Pa Oye-igbemo suffered for years from intestinal pain. Laboratory tests pin-pointed Occult Blood, also called hiding or invisible blood. This is blood from distant parts of the intestine or colon which regular fecal tests may not unearth. A tube with a camera and light at the head was passed through his anus into the colon in a medical procedure called COLONOSCOPY to examine the health of his colon.

On a television screen, he saw many portions of his intestine ulcerated and bleeding. He learned they had to be surgically removed and followed up with suturing of the healthy portions. This could mean a shorter and, possibly, an inefficient colon for the rest of his life with unpleasant health experiences. He had witnessed it in one of his friends and did not want the surgery. By Pa Oye-igbemo rejecting surgery, he risked some of the ulcers degenerating to cancer. At this point, Pa Oye-igbemo sought help from Nature. He availed himself of some antibacterials, anti-fungi and anti-viral and anti-parasite proprietary blends. Among these were Golden Seal Root, Diatom, Pau D’Arco, Colloidal Silver, wheatgrass and Barley grass. His condition could have been helped, also, by Alo vera juice, pomegranate juice, licorice juice, tumeric and ginger, cabbage and carrots juice among others with Jobelyn as adjunct medicine. In about three months, Pa Oye-igbemo returned to hospital for another test which he had considered not necessary, as he was feeling much better, but he was advised to have it just to make assurance doubly sure. The tests revealed that all the lessions were gone! I, too, suffered for several years from Duodenal UlcerLuntil The Guardian newspaper of which I was Editor carried out a kitchen experiment with CISSUS POPULNEA parasitic root.

The Yorubas call the plant Ogbolo (d:m:m) and used it for rejuvenation or stimulating sperm production. I understand from Ada Mbamra, a budding traditional medicine practitioner who is taking after her father,Joseph Mbamra that Kogi and Benue people homestate of her mother Tabitha Mbamara, use this root to cook soup just like Ogbono or okra.Yoruba herbalists give it to pregnant women in the third trimester of pregnancy. They say it relaxes the pelvic muscles for easy birthing. The guardian newspaper researched it for MALE SEXUAL VIRILITY when Europe hurled VIAGRA on Nigeria. As Editor,I gave MR DECLAN OKPALAEKE,a microbiology graduate from Lagos State University (LASU),a brief to assemble about 30 men with sperm count, sperm morphology e.t.c challenges and give them the water extract of this root to take for three months. Every two weeks or so, we sent them to two laboratories, one private, the other public, for checks. We had assembled them from various laboratories among volunteers. Mr Okpalaeke compiled a report which showed tremendous sperm count increases and vibrant sperm health. We sent it as an entry for the CNN AFRICAN JOURNALIST OF THE YEAR AWARD 1999, and it won FIRST PRIZE. I presented the report to the 70th yearly Conference of the Nigerian Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria ( PSN) held at the Airport Hotel, Lagos, as a reminder today for Pharmacists who attended that conference. It was from some of our volunteers in the kitchen experiment that I learned OGBOLO could be an ulcer remedy. My stress ulcer pains used to strike at about 1a.m and were very disturbing to sleep. I drank water at 11P.m and then at midnight to forestall it, but got into trouble if I didn’t remember to. When I took ogbolo and I cleared the ulcer, I gave it to my sister, too, and it cleared hers as well.

Thanks to Mr Okubena, this column has reminded me of it. For, on a lighter note, which man does not want to remain youthful and bouncing at any age? On a serious note now, on almost every street and at almost every motor park are to be found women who sell liquid herbal medicines, including, Ogbolo, also called as Afato( sperm producing). Can the proposed University of Medicine not research this root, a great source of MUCOPOLYSACCHARIDES ,and work with industry to produce it for all kinds of uses among Nigerian people? This lead me to Standford University and its research findings that Cabbage JuiceUICE, yes cabbage juice, heals peptic ulcers in 14 days, yes 14 days. Long, long before then, doctors thought the Vagus Nervewas over stimulating Acid Pumps in the stomach to over produce acid and were surgically removing this nerve without serious positive results, even as Chemotherapy is the lot of many cancer patients today with resultant death from this poison. Dr. Barry MarshalL put a stop to this calamity in medicine. He cultured ulcerated stomach tissue, drank the water contents, developed ulcer and treated himself with anti-bacterials. Today, Medicine knows that Helicobacter PyloriELICOBACTER PYLORI bacterium causes or takes advantage of this ulcer and has to be eliminated, the damaged tissue healed, inflamation addressed and the mucus lining of stomach wall regrown. Thanks to Dr. Garnett Cheney. In 1952, he published an article about a Standford University school of Medicine study which showed that “cabbage juice had a positive effect on the ulcer”. Thirteen patients were given cabbage juice to drink . Secven ulcer were healed. There are some contraindications, though.Cabbage juice may not be good for persons with thyroid problems, kidney or liver disease and gastro-instestinal questions. Standford University School of Medicine had carried out several other studies into Medicinal plants, according to the internet. Other university school of medicine are doing the same. According to the internet, five of them are….. “ 1. ‘The Efficacy of St. John’s Wort in Treating Mild to Moderate Depression’ (2002) – University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) “2 The Anti-Inflammatory Effects of Curcumin, a Compound Found in Turmeric” (2004) – University of Texas, Austin “3 The Antimicrobial Activity of Tea Tree Oil against Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus” (2004) – University of Western Australia “4 The Effects of Ginkgo biloba Extract on Cognitive Function in Patients with Alzheimer’s Disease” (2010) – University of Pittsburgh “5 The Anti-Cancer Effects of Quercetin, a Flavonoid Found in Fruits and Vegetables” (2015) – University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign”. This plants medicines popularised by Schools of Medicines in Europe and America were taken up by the plant medicine industry, produced in large quantum and sold world-wide. They are all present in the Nigerian market. What Otunba Okubena is suggesting is that the University of Medicine flagged off by Lagos State is not just a school of medicine but a whole university of medicine and should plug itself into the new medicine frontier to make Nigerian plant medicine visible and consumed globally. Universities world-wide,are shown by PUBMED, which I often study, to be showing increasing interest in natural medicines. I asked the internet what Pudmed is all about and fine citations relevant to this article. It says: “Pubmed is a free online database of biomedical literature, maintained by the National Library of Medicine (NLM) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). It contains over 30 million citations for articles from thousands of journals, as well as books, conference proceedings, and other publications”.

Harvard University Harvard, one of the world’s best known universities in the United States had a Medicine teaching staff who are not left behind in the study of plant and natural Medicines. Of the University, the internet mentions some of their activities as ….. “1. ‘Identification of a Novel Anti-Inflammatory Compound from the Plant Scutellaria baicalensis’ (2018) – Researchers identified a compound with anti-inflammatory properties from the Chinese skullcap plant. “2. ‘The Effects of Ginkgo biloba Extract on Cognitive Function in Patients with Mild Cognitive Impairment’ (2016) – A study examined the effects of Ginkgo biloba extract on cognitive function in patients with mild cognitive impairment. “3. ‘The Antimicrobial Activity of Essential Oils from the Plant Origanum vulgare’ (2015) – Researchers investigated the antimicrobial properties of essential oils from oregano. “4. ‘The Anti-Cancer Effects of Resveratrol, a Polyphenol Found in Grapes’ (2012) A study explored the anti-cancer properties of resveratrol, a compound found in grapes. “5. ‘The Anxiolytic Effects of Passionflower (Passiflora incarnata) in Patients with Generalised Anxiety Disorder’ (2010) – Researchers examined the anxiolytic effects of passionflower in patients with generalised anxiety disorder.” Now, my introduction done, Otunba  Olajuwon Okubena has the floor… Okubena Views Good evening Mr. Kusa. Please find below my reaction to your latest publication on the proposed establishment of the University of Medicine by the Lagos State Government: Educating the Government: The Need for a Paradigm Shift Toward Natural Solutions in Healthcare “The Lagos State Government’s initiative to establish a university of Medicine is a forward-thinking move, but it must recognise the growing global trend in healthcare: the shift toward natural compounds and integrative approaches, particularly in addressing the hallmarks of aging.

This emerging focus on natural solutions is driven by the limitations of the current pharmaceutical drug-centric model in tackling complex, chronic, and age-related conditions. By embracing this paradigm shift, the government has an opportunity to position the proposed university as a pioneer in cutting-edge healthcare innovation. 1. The HaIllmarks of Aging: A New Frontier in Healthcare Aging is a multifaceted process characterized by biological hallmarks such as genomic instability, cellular senescence, mitochondrial dysfunction, and chronic inflammation. These hallmarks are at the root of age-related diseases, including cardiovascular disease, neurodegenerative disorders, diabetes, and cancer. While pharmaceutical drugs have made strides in managing symptoms of these diseases, they often fail to address the underlying biological processes driving aging.

Natural compounds, on the other hand, have shown significant potential in targeting these hallmarks. For example: Polyphenols(e.g., resveratrol from grapes) have demonstrated anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Flavonoids (e.g., those found in *Sorghum bicolor* and Jobelyn) have been shown to combat oxidative stress and improve mitochondrial function. Adaptogens (e.g., ginseng and ashwagandha) help the body resist stress and maintain cellular homeostasis. By including research and education on natural compounds in the university’s curriculum, Lagos could lead the way in developing innovative, cost-effective, and sustainable solutions to age-related conditions. 2. The Limitations of the Current Pharmaceutical Model The pharmaceutical industry has historically focused on single-target drugs designed to treat specific symptoms or diseases. While this approach has been effective for acute conditions, it has proven less successful for complex, multifactorial processes like aging. – Pharmaceutical drugs often come with significant side effects, making long-term use challenging, especially for elderly populations. – The high cost of drug development and treatment creates accessibility barriers, particularly in low- and middle-income countries like Nigeria. Natural compounds offer a promising alternative. They are often multi-targeted, addressing several hallmarks of aging simultaneously. For instance, curcumin from turmeric exhibits anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-senescence properties, making it a versatile tool in age-related therapy. 3.A Paradigm Shift: The Role of Natural Solutions There is a growing consensus among researchers and healthcare professionals that natural solutions hold the key to addressing the hallmarks of aging. This paradigm shift is already underway in global healthcare systems: Research Focus:Leading institutions like Harvard and Stanford are investing heavily in studying natural compounds and their impact on aging. Consumer Demand: Patients are increasingly seeking natural, holistic approaches to health, driven by concerns about side effects and the desire for preventive care. Policy Support: The World Health Organisation (WHO) has emphasised the integration of traditional and complementary medicine into healthcare systems. By aligning with this shift, the Lagos University of Medicine could position itself as a global leader in the development of natural therapies.

This would not only enhance its academic reputation but also attract international collaborations and funding. 4. Economic and Social Benefits for Nigeria Investing in natural solutions to aging would have far-reaching economic and social benefits for Nigeria: Boosting Local Industries:Nigeria’s rich biodiversity provides a treasure trove of natural resources that could be harnessed for research and development. This would create jobs, stimulate the economy, and reduce dependence on imported pharmaceuticals. Improving Health Outcomes:Affordable, natural therapies would make healthcare more accessible, particularly for underserved populations. This would reduce the burden of age-related diseases and improve quality of life. Preserving Cultural Heritage. By integrating traditional medicine into modern healthcare, the university could preserve and modernise indigenous knowledge, ensuring its relevance for future generations. 5.Call to Action: Educating the Government To achieve this vision, the Lagos State Government must be educated on the importance of including natural medicine in the proposed university’s framework. Policymakers need to understand that: – The global healthcare landscape is shifting toward integrative and natural approaches.

    – Nigeria has a unique opportunity to lead this movement by leveraging its biodiversity and traditional knowledge. – Success in developing natural solutions to aging could revolutionise healthcare, creating a sustainable, patient-centered system that benefits all Nigerians. Conclusion. The Lagos University of Medicine has the potential to redefine healthcare in Nigeria. By embracing natural solutions and focusing on the hallmarks of aging, the university could lead a paradigm shift that addresses the limitations of the current pharmaceutical model. This approach would not only improve health outcomes but also position Lagos as a global leader in integrative medicine and natural health innovation. The government must seize this opportunity to invest in a future where healthcare is holistic, inclusive, and sustainable. The time to act is now”. By Olajuwon Okubena lastword… Thanks,Otunba Okubena. The bottom-line is that we live in a world governed by The Law of Motion, one of the Natural Laws. Therefore, we cannot afford to be static or proceed from the back line.We should strive always to Live in  the  present, and not in the past .

  • 2025 Ramadan, lent: detox, energy, other questions

2025 Ramadan, lent: detox, energy, other questions

Ramadan 2025, Islam’s blessed  month of fasting, penitence, recoil from sin, religious and spiritual instrospection, unveiled itself in the cosmos last Saturday for Nigerian adherents. Four days later yesterday, Nigerian Catholics observed Ash Wednesday, harbinger of the Christians Lent season of  40-day fast, abhorrence of sinful ways and dedication to teachings of the Lord Jesus that would culminate in Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday holiday, all of them anniversaries of the crucifixion, resurrection and ascension of the Lord. Before the onset of Ramadan and Lent, the Redeem Christian Church  of God ( RCCG) began a 100-day fast on January 11 which should end on April 21. Unlike the Christians fast, Moslems will not eat  or drink during the day hours unless, for weighty reasons, they cannot stand the pressure. However, they are free to eat and to drink anything they like, except alcohol, in the evenings and night hours before sunrise next day. For many Christians, their fast is from sunrise to sunset where they do not break it at mid day or at 3 p.m. Many persons who fast on religious ground believe, rightly or wrongly, that, by merely agreeing to fast, i.e even by condescending to fast, their sins will be automatically forgiven. There are many persons who reject this conception of religious fasting. Like them, I believe what will count is the genuiness with which a fast is approached and the positive changes it brings about in the person who is fasting. This week, some of my friends and I who are taking advantage of this season of fasting  for health and spiritual gains, had our usual discussions  typical of this season. We examine inner life, health benefits and challenges of fasting such as life style, detoxification, which the body of a fasting person naturally embarks upon, the Die Off Effects which detoxification brings about to make a fasting person temperate seeker and, of course, the questions which sometimes or always trail a religious fast. This week, the question was about King David( DAUDA), Batasheba his stolen wife, Uriah, Batasheba’s husband and their infant child who died when he fell  ill  despite all the fasting undertaken by David. As a reminder: Uriah was a soldier in King David’s army. He and his wife lived in a house beside the palace. Uriah went to fight in a war to protect the country. Bathsheba bathed nude on the backony of their house overlooking the palace garden. David saw her. They met. She became pregnant. To cover their sin, David recalled Uriah from the battle front only to give him a letter he was to deliver to war commander. Uriah was so loyal to the King and country that he did not stop over in his house next door but took the letter striaght to the war commander. The letter instructed the war commander to place Uriah in the hottest sector of the war where he would be killed. Uriah died. Bathsheba moved into the palace. The baby whose name the Bible did not give was born. Soon, he fell ill. David began to fast so that the baby would not die. He wore rags and covered himself with ash, praying day and night. Nevertheless, the baby died. Was the sin of David and Bathsheba forgiven?. Does this teach us that we do atone for every misdeed?. These are questions for another day.

Ramadan 2025, except for its aftermath, should be  bidden Nigeria bye on March 29 or 30  and Lent should be close to the Christians Withsuntide, itself a few days away from the greatest Spiritual events in our universe, the Festival of theHoly Dove. I am not a member of the R.C.C.G.  I am fascinated, though, that it chose The Dove  as its insignia. In the spiritual, not religious, Festival of The Holy Dove, it is The Holy Dove which appears in the Highest Temple of God in Creation, as the spiritually visible sign of The Holy Spirit to announce the Grace of God which permits continual existence of the entire Creation. Thus, we stand in a season in which, literally speaking, invites us all, left, right and centre, to awaken inwardly, that is spiritually, to the purpose of our creation and existence on earth. The bottom-line of it all is that we struggle to understand the Will of God and to Unconditionally fulfil it. Islam means Submission to The will of Allah. The Lord Jesus taught us we could not enter the kingdom of God unless we fulfilled the Will of His Father. Through the Festival  of the Holy Dove, we are permitted access to a new stream of Divine  Power to enable us to recognise the Will of God and to Unconditionally fulfil it.

    After Easter

Forty days after Easter Monday, which is April 21, May 31 will bring  Withsuntide, also known as  Pentecost, which is the anniversary of the Ascension of the Lord Jesus. The Pentecost being the 7th Sunday in the Christian calendar after Easter Monday,  is a movable event. This may be something remarkable in the Pentecost of 2025 falling on May 31. I say so because 28 to 31 May is the immovable Festival of The Holy Dove. I was privileged as a 27- year- old to be aware of this festival in 1977 during my Youth Corps Service in Uyo and Calabar. Still this day, The Catholic Church revers Pentecost. On that day, the altar decoration like the reinments of the officiating Priest, altar boys and girls is in red colour.

In the Catholic Church, decorations in red colour  on Pentecost Day (also known as Whitsunday)  symbolised the “tongues of fire” that descended upon the Apostles on the first observed Pentecost, as described in the Acts of the Apostles (Acts 2:3). Pentecost happens on 28 to 31 May every year, but is unknown to or consciously observed by a majority of mankind. The first observation marked the beginning of the Christian Church. It was thought by many Christians then that it was the decent of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles. However, it is now  known from the extension of spiritual knowledge for humanity that the Apostles received of the Outpouring of Power by the Holy Spirit, not the Holy Spirit himself. In this conception, the Holy Spirit who created the earth from outside the earth,  cannot dwell on the earth but maintain the earth periodically through an outpouring of divine power into creation, just as the human heart maintains the human body through every heart beat.

By decorating the altar with red, the church visually represents the fiery tongues of the power, signifying the outpouring by the Holy spirit upon the faithful. This powerful symbol reminds Catholics of the Holy Spirit’s role in guiding and sanctifying the Church.

However, from the extension of the knowledge of Creation for mankind at this time of the Cosmic Turning–Point, the high-point of Festival event on earth is on May 29. The Cosmic Turning- Point is when the gigantic universe, with its  uncountable number of solar systems and galaxies and stellar constellations, complete a cycle of movement around its own power hub as the eight solar planets in our own solar system complete theirs around the Sun. Thus, great events are expected to happen on earth in our time, according to hints given to humanity from about the second decade of the last  century. Therefore, whoever made presidential authority transferable in Nigeria on May 29 may have been unconsciously inwardly guided or simply floated on the crests of the sublime waives or currents.

    Every Ramadan

Every Ramadan, as in every season of Lent, I strive to fellow the fast as much as I can in the body and spirit. Even if only temporary, who would not like a loosening of spirit, soul and body to empower the spirit for it ascent  homeward to Paradise? Who would like another surgeon on planet earth to make good avoidable  misdeeds of today? These were some of the spiritual opportunities inherent in the Ramadan and in the Lent fasts. The  Pentecost, in which the Lord Jesus ascended to the Father was an off shoot of the Festival of the Holy Dove of that time.It is not a festival of any fast but the renewal of the Power of God in His Creation without which Creation would rapidly age, wither, collapse and die. Imagine commotion  in  the Cosmos in which the stars are colliding and planets are falling upon one another in which planet earth loses balances into the depths or is  sucked upward into inhospitable realms! The renewal of  God’s Power in His Creation is like the renewal of the earth body with each pumping of blood by the heart round the body. A growing number  of  men and women is becoming aware of this Festival and preparing themselves inwardly for it every month of May. As the Lord Jesus was aware of It, He prepared His Disciples for the absorption of the currents or energy of this Outpouring of Power by  the Holy Spirit when He asked them to assemble in the upper chamber of a house where He appeared to them for the first time since His  Crucifixion. It was on the re-bound of the waves of this Power  that He Himself ascended homeward to the Father. Earth body cannot ascend to the Father. It belongs to dust and remains with dust. On Ash Wednesday, Catholic approach the Priest and he rubbed dust on their forehead to remind them that their bodies were dust. The Lord Jesus took a body of dust from the earth in a woman’s womb to work on earth and left it behind. This was in the season of creation’s renewal sensed on earth and called Withsuntide. Any-one who in humility opens himself or herself to this power in this season would absorb of it in the measure of the opening of this Spirit.Later, I will speak of some of the spiritual benefits of a genuine fast, as  distinct from fasts merely out of habit which hardly touch the spirit or help its maturing.Meanwhile, I wish to consider some of the health benefits and of how, during this season, the body maybe supported with certain impactful herbs.

    Plus or Minus

A fast  for religious or spiritual goals has its benefits and potential dangers. It may offer the body a holiday from digestion of food three times a day, removing scenarios of “all work and no rest makes Jack a dull boy”. During this holiday, the body has an opportunity to invest the energy  it is saving in the digestive system on the  excretory system, eliminating wastes, which may have been hanging in the cells and tissues for years and, thereby, offering the body a new lease  of Life from them.

In the early 2000s, I  was privileged to read two books on fasting by two professionals icons on this subjects. Euro-Americans were dying  in large numbers from Hypertension, heart attack, stroke, diabetes, obesity, e.t.c. Dr Herbert  Shelton wrote the book Fasting Can Save  Your Life. Father and daughter Paul Bragg Ph. D., and Patricia Bragg Ph.D.,  authored The Miracle of Fasting.Arguably, they opened the first health food store in the United States and traveled nation wide propagating their ideas of natural foods and herbs for the healing of ailing human bodies.Expanded the frontiers of alternative Medicines and Nutritional medicine. One of the nutritional medicines they   bequeathed to mandkind and which is popular in Nigeria today is Apple Cider Vinegar(WITH MOTHER). Thanks to Mr Sam Ayeni  of Sea Duck InternationaL who brought this product to Nigeria. He was later sent out of the market he created by seemly faceless pirates he did not have the might to fight. He began in Nigeria the  business of the BRAGG Brand Apple Cider vinegar with Mother with the order  of a small quantity of this product, loaded  his car with some cartons and  drove all the way from Lagos to Lokoja, sometimes sleeping inside his car in motor parks, only to distribute the product to pharmacies stores. Cypril Scott, who wrote a pocket book he titled Cider Vinegar opened my eyes to the importance of Apple Cider Vinegar its nutritional medicine and its rich assembly of phosphate salts. I found it useful for stopping bleeding. My wife took at least three months from child labour and had no problem of blood seepages. I gave it to a mother of five  who was to undergo surgical removal of her uterus overgrown with fibroids.  Her doctors had obtained blood donations from her relations believing she would need blood transfusion during the surgery as she was very pale. However, to their surprise, she had no need for a droplet. Two of my male professional colleagues who had hernia surgeries and took it six  weeks before had no need for blood transfusion. So are the experiences of many persons. Before I get lost in the wilderness of nutritional support for any-one who is undergoing a strenuous fast,  I will  quickly return to Dr Herbert Shelton and to Paul Bragg and Patricia Bragg.

Dr Herbert Shelton’s book, Fasting can save your life, says that, when we fast, the body often breaks down subnormal tissues, evidence of ill health, for nurture and energy. He advocates  fasting as a natural remedy for various health issues, says fasting allows the body to heal itself by redirecting energy from digestion to repair and rejuvenation and that fasting can help alleviate chronic diseases, such as obesity, diabetes and hypertension.Mental clarity is not left out of what fasting can achieve.Dr Shelton  suggests fasting should be supported with  certain  techniques, including gradualism, hydration, and post-fasting nutrition. This book emphasises that fasting should be regarded as a means to an end, not as a cure-all or magic bullet against all diseases. The body has an innate ability, he says, to heal itself when given the opportunity.

Helpful as fasting can be,  it has its critics. These are persons who condemn fasting on the ground that it may cause malnutrition and resultant dangerous health hazards.

The Miracle of Fasting explores the benefits of fasting for physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. The book discusses how fasting can help detoxify the body, improve digestion, and increase energy levels.

    As we fast…

The Yorubas say we see through our tears. So, as we fast,we should know why we are fasting. Arabia was a very dark society before the advent of Prophet Mohammed ( May the Peace of Allah be upon him whereever he is). As in Calabar Nigeria, where twins were killed because they were taught to portend evil omen, baby girls were often buried alive in Arabia. Grown girls and women could also be killed to show visitors to a home how well appreciated they were. Slavery was the other of the day.Ethnic rivary and killings were rife. The inhabitants worship multiple gods. The Prophet turn their gaze to Allah, the only GOD and focused their attention on him in five prayers they must make everyday, each one about five hours from the next. Before a prayer, the must undergo ablution. Symbolically, they rinse their mouth and hands with clean water, wash their faces and feets clean before they approached Almighty Allah in prayer. The symbolism of ablution is that, as they strive for cleanliness in their bodies, they should also strive for  cleanliness in their souls and spirit. Soon, they would be introduced to a whole month of fasting, the Ramadan, to bring them closer to their Maker. It was expected that every Ramadan like each of the five daily prayers, would make a better human being of the adherence of the faith. Those adherence in far away lands were also given the privilege of pilgrimage  to Arabia for them to appreciate that the life and times of the Prophet were a reality. This, too, was expected to  make better human beings of this pilgrims. Therefore, every adherence, in private or public life, who approaches 2025 Ramadan or the pilgrimage to Arabia may wish to always evaluate his or her spiritual content through the sacrifices and  pure teachings of the Prophet.

As for the Lent and Pentecost, there are many questions still unresolved by the Church regarding the pure teachings of the Lord Jesus and the distortion of them held up before Christiandom and adherence of other faith. Among them is the resurrection of  a mutilated and slain human body.  Allusion to the raising of Lazarus and the Widows daughter of the Centurion’ servant  will not hold because the circumstances were not Apposite. Apostle Paul and the disciples of the risen Jesus met on the way to Emmaus told us the Jesus they encountered  was not the slain Jesus.Did disciple Thomas not doubt. Nevertheless, Lent and Pentecost hold great values for the spiritual maturation of the Christian who has oil in the lamp of his or her soul like the five wise virgins. That is the inwardly attentive Christians who doesn’t belive just any teaching but the pure teaching of the Lord Jesus. This is a season for such   Christian to…repent and to reflect on their sins, weaknesses, and areas for spiritual growth. It is a time to acknowledge the need for renewal

Thumbs-up, Lagos flags off University of Medicine

Anytime from now, what promises to be Nigeria’s first University of Medicine and Health Services will pop up, first in Lagos and, later, in Epe, also in Lagos State.

I suspect that the 25- hectares 500-bed hospital for mental health in the town will belong to the complex.

The university would be an icing on the cake for the eight years of meritorous service Health Commissioner Prof Akin Abayomi would have given the state by the time his tenure would be over in 2027. Since he became commissioner of health in 2019, Professor Abayomi has built the health systems of Lagos State into a fighting machinery which has easily overcome several regional,sub-regional and international epidemics, including the the dreaded COVID-19. Nigerians did not “die like flies”as the then United States President Donald Trump falsely prophesised when he literally bundled his country men and women out of Nigeria into, paradoxically, the mass graves awaiting them in their own supposed most blessed and powerful nation on earth! The assumption of Trump and many like him was that Nigeria did not have enough doctors to cope with an approaching holocaust, and that the medical services were in  shambles, besides many of the personnel having been drained off abroad in the quest for more pay and better work conditions. Prof. Abayomi and his health team shocked them all.

The University of Medicine and  Health Services  is coming, therefore, as a solution to the shortage of medical doctors and health services personnel who, would include such professionals as pharmacists, nurses, radiographers, laboratory technologists, record keepers and a lot more.

All the more robust will this venture be if the designers do not leave out Alternative Medicine.

This was what I made the corner-stone of a University of Medicine at this time in Nigeria when I proposed it on this page months ago as the solution to a dangerous and growing shortage of doctors and other medical personnel in the country.

A skeleton I will not bore you with data here. A part of this column will be a reminder of the events which led me to suggest the founding of a University of Medicine in each of Nigeria’s geo-political regions.

The details of that proposal may be read on Facebook @JOHN OLUFEMI KUSA. For this column, a summary is… 1.

There was wide-spread lamentations that Nigerian doctors were migrating profusely abroad, unmindful of their country spending money and energy to make doctors of them.

Even the United Kingdom sarcastically said it would henceforth paid doctors elsewhere because it did not want Nigeria’s medical system to collapse.  Should we continue to lament or take revolutionary actions to solve the problem?

The problem is easy to identify and to solve, using the knowledge of the Laws of Nature which medicine appreciates. (a). Euro- Americans are in the Leisure Age, and, save for a few, are no longer tasking themselves intellectually in the professions.

They have, and are still economically exploiting the rest of mankind, including Nigerians, who let them.

So, they have humongous resources to buy whichever labour they require in their economies. And that is why our doctors and other medical personnel are leaving the country. (b) Conversely, Nigerians are still struggling, bookish and believe education is the shortest course up the social and economic ladder.

So, many Nigerians wish to study medicine, but the teaching facilities are not enough to accommodate them. The screening process, therefore, sends them to learn other professions. One of my son’s was caught in this web. He made all his “O”levels in S.S.S1 and again in S.SS3 and NECO.

JAMB underrated him to twenty-something percent.

He was restless. I encouraged him to protest his score to JAMB with a transcript of his continuous assessment reports of all scores in school.

JAMB reviews it and did nothing. I filed a duplicate copy of the complaint to Chief Bola Ige who was then a Minister in President Olusegun Obasanjo’s government.

Chief Bola Ige resolved the problem.

The boys results had been interchanged with another person’s. Jamb was to apologise in writing and straighten the records.

Two days later, Chief Bola Ige was murdered. Jamb kept mute. I told the young man he could not apply to any university with the rectified result to read Medicine because of possible controversies in the future.

Thus, he spent one year at Lagos State University ( LASU) Basic studies school at Epe, from where LASU offered him admission to read engineering. I encouraged him to replace engineering with Biochemistry which was closer to Medicine.

He had As in all his Biochemistry courses. His lecturers wanted him to apply for a switch to Medicine.

His mother, who was a lecturer at LASU, advised him against doing so because LASU regulations strickly specified admissions for Medicine through JAMB. He had to re-do his Jamb as a Biochemistry undergraduate to qualify to study medicine at LASU.

In pre-Med, he re-studied all the biochemistry subjects, including one,Zoology, and scored As, in all.

This was a rigmarole journey to the corridors of Medicine. It is breath-tasting and energy sapping, if not time and money waiting.

Why would a doctor produced in such circumstances not seek greener pastures upon his graduation, induction and internship?

There must be several thousands of our brilliant young men and women caught in this cobwebs which was left to grow and overgrow over the years. I am acquainted with the parents of no fewer than three who went into depression because they had no admissions to read Medicine.

The mother of one of them died under the pressure of nursing him.

He could not stand the idea that his two younger sisters graduated in other disciplines but he couldn’t go to the university. His Mother put him into information technology ( IT) and, later, plumbing, but neither was of any use. Another such person lives in Badagry , more or less in vegetable existence, long after his siblings had left home, eating and sleeping.

However, there are flexible persons who move on from their shattered dreams, the pieces of which some of them still manage to put together and which a University of  Medicine and  Medical Services may help them to achieve. One of such brilliant fellows is Wisdom Mmutaka Mbamara who has just graduated with First class honours in Zoology from University of Jos. He is the son of a herbal medicine practitioner in Imo State, Mr Joseph Oyemeachi Mbamara and Mrs Tabitha Mbamara, a simple housewife and farmer from Benue State. My suggestion for a University of Medicine and Medical Services months ago was that it be totally different from existing medical institutions, with a goal different from them.

This goal should be an over production  of doctors and other medical team members that will ensure Nigeria has a surplus of them at home whatever number the rest of the world has need to poach.

This proposal cited a Law of Nature which both science and Medicine teach us. I successfully relied on this natural experience as Editor of The Guardian newspaper when, as The FlagshipLAGSHIPof the  Nigerian press, all newspapers came to recruit their staff from us.

We had a rigorous recruitment process which sometimes took more than one month for every job seeker to undergo. The training of successful ones was a baptism of ‘”fire”.

I remembered a natural working process of tte human body. Biologists talk of (Catabolism) and Anabolism ( building up).

The body constructs itself, de-constructs it and re-constructs it again on daily basis.

The average adult has about 100 trillion cells in his or her body. Many of these cells are cast off during aging, damage, disease e.t.c every three or four months or thereabout.

So,we can say that the human body in Which you and I began 2023 is not the same body which we are beginning 2025.The start up cells of 2023 have been cast off about three or four times even if we do not realise it. So,in the Guardian newspaper of 1980s, we had a continuous interview system.

About 25 candidates came to work with us as Test Candidates for one month. We kept the brilliant ones on a waiting list.If a mask exodus occured as was often the case, we could bring in up to 50 cute reporters to replace them and rigorously train them over six months.

That was why the readers did not realise any quality infrastion whatever exodus we were experiencing. So that the University of Medicine and Medical Services will not be another routine training ground for doctors another medical personnel,it is suggested that admissions be at two levels, namely (i) JAMB intakes and (ii) mature students.

The latter would be graduates in the sciences who would like to train as doctors.

They may be on a three and a half years or four years programme.

They may come from such backgrounds as zoology, chemistry, biology, microbiology,Biochemistry, physics, pharmacy,Nursing, Forestry e.t.c. Mature students learn faster.

They may be induced with national youth corps stipend.

They should jump at it. Where are jobs? They may prefer to continue their education and become doctors with the world under their feet and at their beck and call. d. Prof Akin Abayomi need not feel overwhelmed by the funding needs of this University which may enrol about 50,000 students.

Not all projects should be for the government alone to fund.

A revolutionary dream well presented to about one million Nigerians at home and abroad may yield little drops of water from the first year on at about #100 a month per donor through banker order. That is about 100 million a month from charity.

What about churches and mosques? Will their congregants not be beneficiaries?Whose parent would not be able to give #100 every month?

We only need to set the fire and then stoke it. Nigerians love their country where the leaders are working for the public good and are transparent. Alternative Medicines, if Nigeria has great planners, our doctors abroad may become great financial assets to the country.

The Chinese, Lebanese and Indians abroad never forget their homelands.

We do not have to go abroad begging for money.

Did not a period exist before COVID-19 impacted it when Nigerians in more than 200 countries accounted for more than half of the more than six million subscribers of CHY MALL, an e- business in which the average subscription was more than #100,000? That gave this company something like #100,000 x3,0000,000 or #300,000,000,000 investment money. This is where we are heading.

The new university should not be a copy cat of the old ones.

The world is ever on the move, establishing new frontiers.

Alternative Medicine has become a new frontier for Western Medicine after which Orthodox Medicine is patterned. Orthodox Medicine became a new frontier for Folklore Medicine during and after the two World Wars when the capacity of plant medicine practitioners could not cope with new or emergency health challenges thrust upon it by these wars.

Now, Orthodox or drug medicines have thrust their own problems on their users.Dangerous side effects are rampant. So is resistance to drugs.

There must be few persons in the Western world today who are not exposed to one plant medicine or nutritional food supplement or another or availing himself of one form of complementary medicine or another. Doctor training abroad is exposing emerging doctors to these trends. We cannot afford to not align with global trends.

The global trends were ignited by the World Health Organisation on behalf of the United Nations(UN) and endorsed by the African Union.

The WHO decided that members develop their TraditionalMedicine (TM) systems to the standards of Orthodox medicine.

The Guardian newspaper fellow the process.

As editor of The Guardian in 1988, I made the newspaper report Natural Medicine every Thursday in a special section and got Mrs Elizabeth Kafaru to write a weekly column.

In 2002, I attended in Accra, Ghana, a conference to awaken Africans to new realities of plant medicines.

Nigeria had only one TM product, JOBELYN shown to the world.

South Africa had the anti-Oxidant Roibos tea.

China and India, and later Malaysia and the Philippines, were swamping the world market with their TM products.Although Africa is said to be the richest continent in plant medicines, its nations count least in the global herbal medicine market in 2023. According to the internet: Here are the top seven countries in 2023 global herbal medicine market.

“China dominated the Asian Pacific herbal medicine market driven by its rich tradition of Traditional Chinese Medicine. United States herbal medicine market is expected to grow significantly, reaching an estimated value of USD37.90 billion by 2032.

India is home to key players like CULTIVATOR NATURAL PRODUCTS LIMITED, HIMALAYA GLOBAL HOLDINGS LIMITED, HEMANI LIMITED and PATANJALI AYURVED LIMITED. Germany had a significant share of the European herbal medicine market with a strong focus on research and development.

Japan herbal medicine market is expected to grow due to the integration of the Japanese herbal practices into modern medicines. South Korea herbal medicine market is driven by the increasing popularity of natural remedies and traditional medicines. Brazil is characterised by a rich tradition of indigenous medicine and growing consumer awareness of natural remedies”.

It was against such a background that the Guardian newspaper launched Nigerian newspapering into traditional and natural medicine reporting in 1988, re-branding itself five years after its debut, into product development and alignment of it editorial products with their relevant market segments in the economy.

The job could not be taken to the next phase by the time in 1999 when some of us quit our editoral chairs to co-found The Comet newspaper. Dr Omotosho Ogunniyi, Ph D, business education lecturer at the University of Lagos ( UNILAG) and later a top icon in manpower development administration of The Daily Times newspaper of the 1970s under Alhaji Babatunde Jose, Chairman and managing director, was The Comet’s post- incorporation pre and start-up consultant.

He was at that time trying to set up a Lagos Business School for which he had collaboration with some South African partners.

The idea struck me that The Comet could plug into it through its reporting of natural medicine.

I designed a syllabus for health food stores Shop keepers and their certification between nine months to one year of successful training.

They would study no fewer than 50 Nigerian medicinal plants, and an equal number of foreign herbs and their uses in specific system health challenges, alongside book keeping and customer relations.

The minimum qualifications was “O” Level credits in five subjects, in English, mathematics, and at least one science subject. Other senior courses were to fellow.

We expected health food stores to mushroom everywhere with intense editorial propagation of interest in natural medicines. Long before this time in 1978, I had planned by 1979 to attend Leicester University in the United kingdom for a master’s degree in journalism and, after that, undertake a three-year first degree programme in Alternative Medicine or naturopathy, as it is popularly called.

However, my grandmother who brought me up from the age of nine years after my mother’s death at the then Ikeja General Hospital (now Lagos State University Teaching Hospital) and bed role of the University of Medicine and Health Services, developed breast cancer in 1978 and was dying. I had to stand by her.

The experience of watching her galvanised me to setting up a library of Alternative Medicine books which further drove my interest in this subject.

The Comet newspaper was to connect with great authors and doctors who were expanding the frontiers of medicine and to, every quarter, invite them to Nigeria for a quarterly lecture series on Alternative Medicine. Proceeding from this could have been special season consultations and the begining of the first full fledged Alternative Medicine Hospital galvanised by the United Nations, WHO and AU.

Although The Comet newspaper could not achieve this before it fizzled out under cash and other constraints, the beautiful idea, endorsed by the WHO, U.N and A.U, did not die with the Comet newspaper.Health Forever Limited, producers of JOBELYN, Nigeria’s most successful herbal product by international recognitions and other bodies, set up one under the management of some medical doctors, but it soon shut down.

However, that of Rev.Father Anslem Adodo’s PAX HERBAL CENTER at the GRA in Ikeja, Lagos, continues to wax strong.

NATURAL MEDICINES This is a broad field.

By 1990 projections, the world market value ought to have by now exceeded three trillion U S.Dollars a year.

Nigeria remains a speck of dust in this market.

We cannot extract even the oil of Lemon grass which we can abundantly grow and use for malaria and other ailments, including cancer.

Nor can we convert the seeds of pawpaw into digestive and proteolytic enzymes. I checked with the internet a list of the different specialist fields in Alternative Medicine and Traditional Medicine(TM) which may be of interest to designers of the UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE AND HEALTH SERVICES, should they have given a thought to teaching in this area.If they have not,I suggest they do.Time and true humanity will always remember them and also honour their memories.

HIV, HPV red flags fly over 2025 Valentine’s Day (2)

The Tree Man gave me a health shocker when I saw his photograph for the first time on the internet about 20 years ago. I was researching  Human Papillo Virus and I thought I was seeing a small tree or, at best, a thicket which had grown and formed itself in human shape. Alas, The Tree Man was, really, a man, whose skin had abnormally grown semblances  of small plants on his body. What could have gone wrong with his body? The first time I published his photograph in this column, its caused butterflies to fly in the stomachs of many readers, especially those who had small warts growing in different parts of their bodies.Who would know he or she has warts on the body and that the troubles of the The Tree Man came from warts who would not be afraid that he or she, too, could be become a tree man or a tree woman, and not take exception to the publication? This is one of the reasons I appreciate public health campaign of the World Health Organisation (WHO) to make Nigerians girls and women vaccinate against infection of Human Papillo Virus( HPV). This virus is a root cause of the problem of tree man, and has been shown to cause cancers and other unforgettable and disabling health troubles in the cervix and Vagina.Nevertheless, I stand with those persons who have reservations about vaccinations for all sorts of  reasons, especially the fear that only the future can tell what abnormalist will come with each vaccination.  As a child, my parents submited me  to the authorities for polio and small pox vaccinations.May be that is why I am polio and small pox free till today. That has not left me off guard.Haven’t we been hearing for decades that vaccination against small pox may be a root cause of the cancer pandemic world wide today? This is why this column will offer  some  plant medicines suggestions for fighting human Papillo Virus. Before then, I will like to introduce to you the tree man…

    Dede  Koswara, The Tree Man

The following report comes from the internet…

“The  Tree Man was Dede Koswara, an Indonesian man who suffered from a rare genetic disorder called Epidermodysplasia Verruciformis (EV). This condition made him extremely susceptible to human papillomavirus (HPV), which caused uncontrollable growth of warts resembling tree bark on his skin.

“Koswara’s warts started growing when he was 10 years old, and by the time he was an adult, they had spread to his face, arms, and legs, making everyday activities extremely challenging. His condition earned him the nickname “Tree Man” due to the tree-like appearance of his warts.

HPV is a common virus that can cause various diseases, including: Warts…Benign growths on the skin or mucous membranes.

Cervical cancer…A type of cancer that affects the cervix in women. Other anogenital cancers…Cancers that affect the anus, vulva, vagina, or penis.Oropharyngeal cancer…A type of cancer that affects the throat and tonsils.

Epidermodysplasia Verruciformis (EV)… A rare genetic disorder that makes individuals highly susceptible to HPV and increases their risk of developing skin cancer.

“Koswara’s story was widely shared, and he underwent several surgeries to remove the warts, but they continued to grow back. Unfortunately, he passed away in 2016 due to complications related to his condition”.

    Wart and HPV

Valentine’s Day 2025, that is last Friday, provided the health community in Nigeria an opportunity to talk about HPV and the relationship with cancer formation in the private  place of young girls and women. This is because  many persons itching to lay off emotional or other forms of steem from stress easily late themselves hurtle down heel at this time in the hope of regaining some balance. Girls and women become easily more endangered in such a season than men are.  It is often not written on the faces of men that they are HPV positive. A careful woman  may not easily discover that she bears HPV within. Some of them have organs which only special medical examination can detect. Even when they are visible, how many women know what they portend or can recoil at the last moment? Perhaps the ones that may put off a woman may be the open sores which may heal now and then during remissions. Beyond all of these, HPV is transmissible through the skin. Beyond skin transmission, also, all sorts of unwholesome events take place in the act. A long time ago, this column feature a gentleman under the title…The Man Who Puts His Mouth in The Wrong Place. In the days of youthful exuberance, I would have hit the nail on the head or call a spade a spade and not an agricultural implement, as we say. His gums were roughened up, his teeth shaking in their sockets and the mucus lining of his inner cheeks bombarded with mucus-filled tiny growths, the type Yorubas call Owo Eyo (cowry money)  because they have the circular shape of coins . A lucky man he was. He recovered in months, on  Propolis Syrup, sprayed into the mouth and swirled around with his blisters, and patched tongue. He was a victim of oral sex. Some women, too, fall victim to men who, through oral sex, may introduce HPV or other pathogens into their bodies through their mouths.Women may suspect a man if he is unusually  fatigued, itches even anally and discharges or experiences painful urination. Some of the signs a girl or woman may watch out for are…genital warts, Small, flat, or raised growths on the penis, scrotum, anus, or groin area, anal warts, small, flat, or raised growths around the anus, penile lesions, abnormal growths or sores on the penis, Anal itching or bleeding, Itching, bleeding, or discharge from the anus. The age brackets WHO is targeting especially for HPV vaccination is the 11-18 years generation. This generation of girls is likely to still be in secondary, sexually active, careless about sexual safety and unable “to do something when they see something”. This is one of the main reasons, as I said earlier, why HPV vaccination is fascinating.

    Options to Vaccination

In nature, there is nothing which exists, however powerful, which has no antidote. That is why snakes flee from bitter kola and an army of African black ants, rocket and stubborn as its may be, will disperse when its encounters wood ash on the way. A few decades ago, a doctor in Europe produced a machine that could easily become a master piece invention of our time. It was founded on the principles of healing diseases with natural vibration or natural radiations. If you know the vibration or radiation status of any germ, and you can set the machine to produce a counter vibration or radiation, and you  can hold a terminal of the machine to pass the vibration or radiation through your body to the pathogen, you will block  the pathogen from existence and destroy it just as one radio station frequency can jam another radio frequency out of operation. The medical establishment rejected this machine and branded its author a crank, to protect pharmaceutical medicine and established medical practice  from possible effacement. In Lagos, I tried to produce this machine from the simple electrical design she got out free in that book. But I could not find an electrical engineer who was interested in such a project.

This leaves us with the life forces or radiation in plant medicine  which may have been designed as a stepping stone to this age of technology when mankind, working with mother nature and utilising her principles, would elevate proceedings on earth to higher levels. Medical science tells us pharmaceutical medicine  cannot successfully address viruses. That is why virus challenged persons may  live with them for life. They have been challenges to this world view. First, can we not minimise bacterial and fungal load to zero tolerance with such proprietory formula as Amazon A-F, to minimise work load of the immune system and then fortify it with Amazon  A-V designed against viruses with about 10 medicinal  extracts from well known antiviral plants? I witnessed the recovering  from occult blood and ulcerative colitis by a Septuagenarian who used Pau D’arco to save himself from surgery. I have heard of how prosta care helped many persons on catheter recover from their prostrate gland trouble. We may observe from www.medicinenet.com how the fellowing herbs fight Inflamation, viruses and even slow the growth of cancers… oregano, lemon balm, tumeric, licorice, Astragalus, garlic, holy basil, black elderberry, Echinaea, zinc, Rishi mushroom, myrrh e.t.c. What may be the biggest evidence may be the story of Dr Samuel Johnson. I reported recently that this Nigerian  practised medicine for 47 years in the United States before he was struck by prostate cancer, and of how the ravages of stage 4 prostate cancer made his doctors give him only three months to lived, where upon he returned to Nigeria to die, but was given a protocol of herbs which quelled the cancer and he  has lived on for almost one year. This week, I sought audience with him again. He is willing to share his story. He offered free consultation on the remedies he used. Currently, he is busy on a huge medical project in which he is supported by the United nations Development Project (UNDP) and the African Development Bank (ADB). His survival story promises to be a very interesting one for all men challenged with prostate cancer.

    Girls, Women and Mother Nature

In the first part of this series, I mentioned the admonition in a spiritual work which inspired my interest in natural medicine. Its says: Neither Drug Nor Injections But The Right Kinds of Foods And Drinks Alone Bring Lasting Health. I was inpired also by the admonition that no tumour or cancer can grow in the human body with a healthy liver.  I have also learned from this work that our environment is not a decoration but filled with messages for the wise to learn from. Why do green plants fill everywhere? In my  thirties, older men and women who were custodians of this Creation Knowledge told me the blood of man was made from the blood of plants. It was in my 60s, about 30 years later, that four scientists who won the Noble Prize in medicine unlocked the secret for me. Their work said the green Chlorophyl pigment of plant and the Haemoglobin, the red pigment in the red blood cells of humans, are  of the same structure…Carbon, Hyrogen, Nitrogen and Oxygen. The only difference is that Magnesium holds this structure together in chlorophyl while Iron holds it together in Haemoglobin. Thus, when we eat green plants or drink their juices, the body uses them to recharge and to cleanse our blood after replacing the Magnesium with Iron. This knowledge led me to write an article in the 1990s titled…. Let’s drink green, the earth is not green for the fun of it. Soon after, the first chlorophyl drinks and powder products appeared on the shelves of Nigerian health food stores.

The greens and their Chlorophyl have Oxygen content in them.Germs cannot survive in oxygenated environment. How many girls and women consume chlorophyl drinks? The liver easily detoxifies itself when bigger principles are consumed in foods. Many girls and  women hate to eat bitter things. However, some of them change when I tell them of a Yoruba  saying of the elders… Ota Enu Ni ore Inu (The mouth’s enemy is the friends of the organs!).Thus, rather than waste the next Aloe Vera leaf gel on hair treament, juice and drink it on  a meal or empty  stomach. Its miracles will impact the hair from within! Eat orange peel, plantain peel, banana peel e.t.c. Dr. Max Gerson theorised that cancer and other tumours develop only when  there is not enough potassium  in the cell or when  there is too much  sodium in the cell. The cell will therefore have a weak Sodium- Potasium Pump, lose oxygen intake and become fermentative. These and other factors may be why the breast and the cervix have become prone to cancer in our generation. I tend to believe Dr Max Gerson because many Nigerian women today cannot do without Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) in their  cooking as a taste enchancer. You may say  that  MSG occurs naturally in foods. Yes, that is  organic MSG formulated under different conditions of radiations than the factory-made in organic MSG.  In nature, the radiations which form MSG and other nutrients do not attack or destroy themselves as they happen in factory formulations.

This is not where I am going in respect of  HPV, vaccination for girls and women.

    The Germ Theory

Some persons believe HPV Vaccination is necessary. Others believe it is a ruse to milk poor nations. After all, the U.S gave Africa 500 U.S.D HIV drugs to make the users become dependent on them before the  subvention is withdrawn. No one as yet knows implications of HIV vaccination. All we are hearing is that HPV can cause cancer. That  was how Louis- Pasteur sold the idea that  germs cause diseases and pasteurisation began which killed the life force in fooods, and Dr Edward Jenner, Robert konch  and their  likes began vaccination medicines against small pox, bacteria and other diseases in the late 18th century.

Isn’t it only now  that we are wondering  why two persons were exposed to GERMS in the same environment and one was infected but the other was not?  President  Donald Trump forced Americans to flee Nigeria during  COVID-19 upsurge, saying  Nigerians would “die like flies” Did we? Did not Americans and Europeans “die like flies”? The answer to Louis Pasteur’s Germ Theory is that it is the immune system which determines whether exposure  to germ will cause disease, not the germ itself. What will work for the immune weakling in this regard is the speed at which the body can produce its Primary anti-oxidants. Glutathione, Super Oxide Dismutase(SOD) and  Catalase. Glutathione, the must important, is produced from three amino acids…Glutamic acid, Cysteine and glycine. SOD comes from Zinc and Manganese. There are other anti-oxidants and phenolic compounds no doubt. I would like, finally, to touch  on two other important factors regarding whether, with or without HIV, cancer can occur in the cervix, at least from natural medicine perspectives. One  is that the cervix like the vagina, is slightly acidic for self protection. Semen, on the other  hand, is alkaline.Besides, it comes with anti- body antibodies to supress for a while the anti body of those areas for the safe passage into the uterus of sperm cells which require an alkaline environment for their survival. When a  woman’s body is accessed too often even by the sperm  of her spouse and sexual partner, there is tendency for the alkalinity of sperm  to neutralise the  acidity of this region and lay it open for the manifestation of germs and viruses which may result in  cancer, especially  when the  livers function is subnormal! The girl and woman of today are irresponsible when its comes to sex.Female animals reject sex when they are not on “heat” for reproduction.Girls and women, forgetting or ignoring that their bodies  descended from the animal, and that they should control it, may accept sex every day.

    Energy Medicine

Finally,we are too familiar with  orthordox medicine which is Western medicine. Energy Medicine is Eastern or Asian medicine. Over there, it is agreed that the body of man  is not man, who dwells in the body as a  Spirit Energy kernel or the Bibical Breath of Life. This Overself or Spirit has seven “sockets” into which the body inserts plugs, in seven different locations known as The Chakras. Each chakra corresponds with the location of an endocrine gland system. Beginning from the base of the spine upwards, these chakras are in the (1) spine(2)pubis(3)Solar plexus(4) Heart region(5) throat(6)Eyes(7) crown. When the Chakra is burnt out or not supplying energy well, the  region it supplies power, like an electricity transformer that is down and causes black -outs, begins to ail and is prone to weakness, cold or deterioration. The vagina, reproductive system, bladder, prostate gland are in the second chakra region. You  may obtain from the internet why the Chakras fail and how, from therapies within the soul or overself, it may be revived. Externally, the current leading solution is the wearing of Quantum Energy Boxer to supply the body quantum energy from quantum energy minerals wired into the boxers.  Some other persons may well prefer Colour Therapy. Each chakra manifests a peculiar colour. That of the first chakra is red, while that of  Second Chakra is orange. The Virgina and the cervix  may share first and second chakra energies and, therefore, profit from red and orange colours.Other chakra colours are yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet.

In earlier columns, I wrote about how one may make and drink solarised water in glass bottles of colours appropriate for Chakra location. We live in a free  world. So, the search for protection against HPV and cancer is a personal one.Nevertheless, we should remember always that the earth is not green for the fun of it.That is the heart of natural medicine.
