    Ogbonnaya’s death is a huge loss to Nigeria, APC family – Gov Uba Sani

    Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna state has  said that it was with deep shock that he received the news of the death of former Governor  and ex-minister Chief Ogbonnaya Onu.

    The governor, who made this known on Friday, April 12, said the former minister was a progressive politician, an upright statesman with passion for Nigeria.

    Senator Uba Sani further stated that the APC family has been hit by a monumental loss, adding that the late minister’s valuable contributions to democracy and the flowering of our national ethos would remain exemplary

    The governor further stated that late Ogbonnaya’s exemplary leadership and intellect and values of hard work would  remain beautiful legacies for this and future generation of Nigerians.

    While also consoling the people of Abia and Ebonyi states over what Senator Uba Sani described as irreparable loss, he prayed that the Almighty God gives his family, the Nigerian Association of Engineers and  APC the fortitude to bear the loss.

    We’ve lost a dedicated public servant, true Nigerian, Wamako mourns Ogbonnaya Onu

    Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamako has described as a huge loss for Abia, Ebonyi states and Nigeria, the death of former governor and ex-minister of science and technology, Ogbonnaya Onu.

    The lawmaker said on Friday, April 12, that he was shocked by the news of Ogbonnaya’s death, describing the deceased a consumate politician and a dedicated democrat.

    Wamakko opined that the late ex-minister would be remembered for “his uprightness, passion for a united  Nigeria and remains a guide for the nation’s intelligentsia.”

    The former Sokoto governor described the late Ogoonnaya “as an accomplished scholar, an engineer of respectable standing, who stood for progressivism and good governance.”

    He explained that the late Ogbonnaya’s  legacy  of illustrious political career “leaves a huge gap on Nigeria’s political firmament” adding that “as a true patriot, his exemplary private and public life stood him out as a dedicated servant of Nigeria.”

    Alia kicks-off building of 300 capacity conference hall

    Benue State Governor, Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia has kicked-off the building of Conference Hall at Benue State Emergency Management Agency (Benue SEMA) at the agency’s headquarters, Makurdi.

    Represented by his Principal Private Secretary, Dr. Emmanuel Chenge, the governor said the Conference hall when completed will serve as a meeting place to generate and exchange ideas, gather and exchange information, and assist in early warning and action as well as prompt disasters management.

    Governor Alia praised the Acting Executive Secretary, Benue SEMA, Sir. James Iorpuu for his genuine commitment and effort in mitigating disaster and response to the plight of Internally Displaced Persons.

    .According to the governor, the Conference Hall which will also have a situation room that will gather and respond to disasters management.

    He assured Benue SEMA of his  support to the completion of the project, commended the International Organisations for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)and other partners in providing succour to displaced population.

    The governor reiterated his administration’s resolve to resettle the displaced persons to their ancestral communities in a safe and secure environment, restore their dignity, pledging to commiting resources for the timely completion of the edifice and to supporting Benue SEMA to carry out its responsibilities.

    Earlier, the Acting Executive Secretary, Benue State Emergency Management Agency, Sir. James Iorpuu, said the state–of-art Conference hall will serve as a pivotal hub for humanitarian affairs in the state as well as to provide a conducive environment for strategic discussions, capacity-building and emergency response coordination.

    According to Iorpuu, the facility when completed will enhance a resilience and mitigate the impact of disasters in our communities in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Sendai Framework for Disasters Risk Reduction.

    Hailing Governor Alia for his unwavering commitment and support for the project, the Ag. Benue SEMA boss said the governor’s steadfast dedication to the well being of the IDPs is evident in his proactive approach to disasters management response in the state.

    He appreciated the esteemed partners including IOM, UNHCR and other UN partners for their sustain support to the displaced population, calling on them to join hands for the project.

    Prof. Gabriel Akpen – Director General, Bureau of Special Projects and Infrastructure lauded the government commitment to the welfare of the Persons of Concern, stressing that the Conference hall will accommodate more than 300 seating capacity, office of Executive Secretary and accountant,a situation room to coordinate emergency calls and integrated audio/visual systems.

    Chief of Mission, IOM, Nigeria, M. J. Laurent De Boeck commended the relentless effort of the government of Benue for providing succour to the displaced victims through Benue SEMA, saying the IOM is proud to be partners of the SEMA in trying to provide assistance to the idps and addressing humanitarian challenges, pledging its roadmap so that Benue people will see a better life.

    Irene Omondi, UNHCR Head of Sub Office Ogoja, represented by Mr.Sally Sally Ineji Okpaje, commended Governor for placing high premium on capacity building and coordination, saying the Conference hall when completed will serve as a hub for humanitarian activities and added that the UNHCR will continue to support the state government in meeting the plight of IDPs and to support their sister agencies in terms of coordination.

    Kogi attacks: we’ve arrested some suspects, says Ododo

    Kogi State Governor Ahmed Ododo yesterday said some suspects involved in the bandit attacks on Agojeju-Odo and Abejukolo communities in Omala Local Government Area have been arrested.

    Agojeju-Odo and Abejukolo communities were attacked by suspected herdsmen on April 4, where 25 persons were reportedly killed and many injured.

    Governor Ododo, while addressing reporters after observing his Eid prayers at Okene, said ‘some suspects have been arrested in connection with the killings and investigation is ongoing’.

    He added: “The crisis in Omala did not start today, it has been there for some years now and we will do our best to ensure peace is fully restored. As I speak with you, some suspects have been arrested and investigation is ongoing; the suspects are also giving us useful information.

    “As soon as we are done with the investigation, the report will be made public and the perpetrators brought to justice.”

    The governor commiserated with the bereaved families, and restated government’s commitment to provide support for those injured and others whose houses were destroyed in the attack.

    He further urged Muslims in the state to sustain the lessons learnt in the holy month of Ramadan.

    “As we mark the end of this Ramadan, I urge everyone to carry forward the lessons learnt in this month of Ramadan. Let us continue to practice kindness, generosity, love and understanding in our daily life,” Ododo added.

    The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, yesterday canvassed support for President Bola Tinubu and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

    The prayer was led by the Chief Imam of Ilorin, Alhaji Muhammad Bashir Imam-Solih, at exactly 9 a.m.

    State government functionaries, led by the Kwara State House of Assembly Speaker Yakubu Salihu Danladi and the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alhaji Mahe Abdulkadir, attended the prayers.

    In his sermon, Imam-Solih urged Muslim faithful to remain committed the commandments of Almighty Allah at all times.

    He added that the Muslim Ummah had been blessed with the observation of the just-concluded holy month of Ramadan.

    Foreign Affairs Minsiter Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar yesterday urged the Muslim Ummah and all Muslim faithful to remain resilient and pray for peace in the face of global challenges.

    He made the statement in his Eid message, signed by his media aide, Alkasim Abdulkadir.

    Tuggar said: Amidst the Eid celebrations, adherents of the Islamic faith should reflect on the sacrifices and lessons of the concluded month of Ramadan for guidance.”

    He enjoined the Muslim Ummah to pray for the country and the success of the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to bequeath dividends of governance to the entirety of the Nigerian nation.

    Audu urges Nigerians to foster national growth

    The Minister of Steel Development, Prince Shuaibu Audu, urged Nigerians to foster national growth by refraining from actions that would pull the country backwards.

    Audu also implored all Nigerians to live in peace, harmony and unity.

    The minister, who spoke in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Mrs. Lizzy Okoji, urged the Muslim faithful and others to continue to live according to the essence of Ramadan, which includes prayers, piety, and almsgiving.

    He said: “Ramadan has come and gone, but we must continue to live by the essence of the season without deviating.

    “As compatriots, just like the Prophet Mohammed has taught us, it is important for us to live in peace, love, and unity, be our brothers and sisters keepers and refrain from actions detrimental to our fellow citizens and Nigeria as a nation.”

    The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) is building a vibrant and resilient territory for every individual to thrive and succeed, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike said yesterday.

    Wike, who stated this in his Sallah message, said that the administration would achieve these through huge investments in infrastructural development, healthcare, education, security, and economic empowerment.

    The minister added that the progress being recorded so far in the areas of security and provision of infrastructure in the road and rail sectors, and reforms in the administration of the FCTA, have been recognised and applauded.

    “I, hereby, enjoin us all, to continue to offer supplications to the Almighty for our dear country Nigeria and her leaders for divine wisdom and guidance, as they work ceaselessly to overcome our current challenges.

    “Fellow residents of the FCT, this spirit of unity and togetherness that characterises the nation’s capital is not only integral to the observance of Ramadan but also resonates deeply with the values of harmony and cohesion that the FCT stands for.”

    The FCT, Wike noted, embodies diversity, tolerance, and harmony, serving as a symbol of unity for all Nigerians.

    He said: “Our strength lies in our ability to embrace our differences and work together towards common goals, regardless of ethnicity, religion, or background.

    “I urge us, however, not to limit the acts of charity, love, and tolerance to only the holy month, but should inculcate this culture into our everyday lives.”
