He accused Akeredolu of misplacing priorities in terms of project execution.

The PDP candidate said that “the N6.5 billion wasted on less than 100metre overhead bridge can be expended on education, which is our pride. But the government will prefer to cut corners through such phony projects. We will change the narratives.”

Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has inaugurated a 953-member local campaign committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He urged the members to go to their wards and units to campaign for the success of the party in the October 10 election.

Akeredolu, who performed the inauguration in Akure, said he expected victory in the 203 wards.

The governor, who dismissed talks that only those named in the campaign committee would be given appointment, said those that did not make the campaign list would still be recognised after electoral victory.

Former Deputy Governor of the state, Alhaji Ali Olanusi, another former Deputy Governor, Alhaji Lasisi Oluboyo, Chief Olusola Oke and Mr. Isaacs Kekemeke said they would work for Akeredolu’s success at the polls.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 14 committees were inaugurated for the re-election bid of the governor.

Akeredolu said there was no reason to display any act which violated the rights of any citizen.

The party said this on Wednesday in Abuja in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan.

He said Zamfara State Governor Bello Mattawale was appointed the deputy chairman of the 145-member campaign council.

Ologbondiyan listed the PDP National Financial Secretary, Alhaji Abdullahi Maibashira, as secretary of the council.

Akeredolu accuses PDP of attacking supporters

Ondo Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has asked security agencies to call the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its supporters to order ahead of the October 10 governorship election.

Akeredolu alleged members of the All Progressives Congress and its supporters were subjected to unprovoked attacks from hoodlums loyal to the governorship candidate of the PDP, Eyitayo Jegede.

The Governor said members of the APC going about their personal routines were rounded up at Odopetu in Akure by PDP thugs and bodily injuries were inflicted on them.

He stated that PDP thugs removed branded caps and T-shirts bearing the name of Governor Akeredolu and APC logo worn by the supporters.

Governor Akeredolu, who spoke through the spokesman of his campaign organisation, Olabode Olatunde, said the mindless and unprovoked attacks were direct affront on his peaceful resolve.

According to him: “We, therefore, warn the PDP not to take the political maturity of the APC and its candidate, Governor Akeredolu for granted or be misconstrued as a sign of weakness.

“We are calling on the security agents to call the PDP to order as the people of the state will no longer tolerate any act of intimidation and harassment from the drowning PDP.

“While we are not known for violence, we shall continue to guide our members and supporters to eschew violence and allow the electoral process to fruition. Our confidence to return to office remains unwavering.”

But the Eyitayo/Gboluga Campaign Organisation (EJCO) said Akeredolu wrongly directed his post at the peace-loving members and supporters of Jegede and the PDP.

Gbenga Akinmoyo, spokesman for Jegede campaign organisation, said: “We take slight comfort in the fact that we may get some form of protection from security agents since they have been put on notice by this cry of “Wolf”.

“Whilst we continue to encourage our supporters to remain calm in the face of repeated provocation, we enjoined them to remain vigilant and stay safe.”

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Eyitayo Jegede has knocked the administration of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, saying it lacks a human face.

Jegede spoke while addressing Ondo State Artisan Groups who were in his office to declare support for his gubernatorial project.

He accused Akeredolu of misplacing priorities in terms of project execution.

The PDP candidate alleged “the 6.5 billion naira wasted on less than 100m overhead bridge could be expended on education which is our pride.

“But the government would prefer to cut corners through such phony projects. We will change the narratives.”

Jegede said Akeredolu failed to maintain the high educational standard for which the State was reputed.

He told his visitors not to be afraid and warned the APC not to throw the state into an avoidable crisis for selfish reasons.

According to him: “The healthcare facilities are no longer within the reach of the masses. In the name of looking for revenue that will later find its way into the pockets of certain consultants, the boy who had appendicitis was abandoned to wallow in avoidable pains.

“Our doctors on duty insisted that he must pay the multifaceted medical fees before he could be attended to.

“The boy was truly writhing in pains yet nobody looked towards his side. That’s quite disdainful.

“When help finally came the boy’s way, they collected all manners of fees ranging from consultancy fee, bed fee, sitting fee, management fee, pharmacy fee, visitors’ fee and all sorts of fees under ridiculous headings.

“At the end of the whole show, they equally insisted that the boy must provide blood even when blood was not administered on him.

“This is inhuman and really disgusting but we intend to put a permanent end to such irresponsible governance.

“Opportunity to access free medicare will be given. Mother and child hospital will also be located in both Southern and Northern senatorial districts so that people from the districts can also taste the sweetness embedded in good governance.”

Ondo 2020: ZLP receives PDP, APC members in Ondo

    Osagie Otabor, Akure

Membership of the Zenith Labour Party in Ondo state has swelled following the defection of chieftains of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Among the defectors was a former Chief of Staff to Governor Olusegun Mimiko, Dr Kola Ademujimi and Chief Bepie Akintunde.

They defected to the ZLP at Idanre Local Government area.

Dr Ademujimi said they left the PDP over the primary that produced Eyitayo Jegede.

Ademujimi said the ranks of the PDP were being depleted on a daily basis.

He said Ondo Deputy Governor, Hon Agboola Ajayi, was forced to leave the PDP because of the hostility displayed to him by members of the party.

The former Chief of Staff said he left PDP to help the Deputy Governor realise his ambition of governing the state

His words: “People are defecting from APC, PDP and others ever since the deputy governor picked the governorship ticket of ZLP.

“Agboola Ajayi is out to win this election. Ajayi’s coming to join PDP was an advantage to PDP but they lost the opportunity. They attacked some of our members because of the Deputy Governor.

Akintade said: “We went to APC with former President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki but we left and joined the deputy governor, Agboola Ajayi when he defected to PDP.”

Akintade, who was former Senior Special Assistant (Direct Labour Agency) to Governor Olusegun Mimiko-led administration, said they were treated like unwanted guests in the PDP.

Speaking on chances of Ajayi and his running-mate Engr. Gboye Adegbenro at the poll, Akintade said Idanre Local Government Area would determine who wins the October 10 governorship election.

Akintade said: “Only two people are contesting. Akeredolu who is running a government for his family by his family is contesting with Agboola Ajayi.

“It is not yet time for the central, so Jegede is not contesting. The way PDP is treating people from Idanre, PDP cannot win any election here.

“We chose Agboola because whenever he held the fort as acting governor, he paid staff salaries on 24th, 25th day of the month.

“He knows how to help the downtrodden. He can do better than Akeredolu.

“We left APC because since we had been there, we did not gain anything from them. So we have to defect to ZLP and ZLP will win the election.”

Leader of ZLP in Idanre, Dr Ayewamide Olaiya, who received the defectors, urged all party members to go home and enlighten the people on the need to vote for ZLP candidate in the election.

Olaiya said: “We have been working with them (defectors), we will deliver Idanre to ZLP. I still received over 50 from PDP today and over 100 from APC yesterday.”

The running-mate of Ajayi, Gboye Adegbenro, promised they would not disappoint the people.

He stated that all the people-oriented programmes executed by Mimiko’s administration would be resuscitated and new ones added.

Adegbenro lamented that programmes such as free baby delivery, lighting the streets in Akure have been jettisoned by Governor Akeredolu-led administration.

He said there would be a downward review of tuition fees in the state-owned tertiary institutions.

Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Eyitayo Jegede yesterday began reconciliation move with aggrieved party leaders in Ondo South Senatorial District.

Some party members last week resolved to boycott campaign activities of Jegede over choice of his running mate.

Party sources said Jegede had pleaded with the senator representing Ondo South, Senator Nicholas Tofowomo, to help him organise PDP leaders in the zone.

Jegede has urged Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu not to play God by saying it was not the turn of Ondo Central Senatorial District to produce a governor.

He said it was least expected of a governor to say the All Progressives Congress (APC) would rule Ondo State forever.

The PDP standard-bearer, who described Akeredolu’s comments as arrogant and oppressive, expressed shock that a governor would talk down on the people.

Jegede, speaking through his Head, Media Research Response, Kayode Fasua, said he had been highlighting his programmes of action as campaign issues, but the reverse was the case for Akeredolu.

Ondo 2020: Signs of my victory clear – Akeredolu

    Osagie Otabor, Akure

Ondo Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has declared signs of his victory in the October 10 governorship election are already clear.

Akeredolu said the signs were because the projects he executed were God’s projects and God would ensure victory for him and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking in a live programme monitored in Akure, Akeredolu debunked insinuations his Deputy Governor, Hon Agboola Ajayi, left the APC with huge numbers of the party faithful.

He said it was only Agboola the left the APC while others remained within the party.

The Ondo Governor called on university professors to research into what makes Deputy Governors want to unseat sitting Governors.

He stated not all deputies would be loyal like Edo Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, or Vice President Yemi Osibanjo.

Akeredolu said his Deputy was pushed by ambition, adding that he was yet to understand why Agboola failed to find peace in the office.

According to him: “The Deputy Governor is the only person that left the party. He left with no other person. The SSG that resigned is still at the party. All the aspirants that ran with me at the primaries are together with me. I know that God’s hand is in this project.

“Issue of Deputy Governor happens all the time. It is not a new phenomenon. Only people guided by God’s principle can have a settled mind. Ambition will run people mad. It is primitive to look for the downfall of your principal.

On the alleged violence threat by an APC chieftain, Isaacs Kekemeke, Akeredolu said Kekemeke was a man of peace and didn’t mean what he said.

THE Social Democratic Party (SDP) has said comments of violence credited to a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Isaacs Kekemeke, will not scare it out of the October 10 governorship election.

It said it was capable of matching up with Kekemeke.

The party said it has members of Kekemeke’s make and size.

The governorship candidate of the party, Mr. Tope Fasua, who spoke in Akure, said Kekemeke should not have descended to make such threatening comments owing to the various political offices he (Kekemeke) had held in the state.

He noted that the lesson is for politicians to always watch what they say in public or political gathering.

Fasua urged Kekemeke to apologise to people.

On the preparation by the electoral body, he said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has no reasons to fail the people on October 10 because it is one state election.
