Governorship candidate of the party, Mr. Tope Fasua, who spoke in Akure, said Kekemeke should not have descended low to make such threatening comments owing to the various political office he (Kekemeke) held in the state.

Fasua noted the lessons were for politicians to always watch what they say in public or political gathering.

He urged Kekemeke to apologise to people of the state.

On the preparation by the electoral body, Fasua said INEC has no reasons to fail Ondo people because it is one state election.

Ondo 2020: Akeredolu tasks new council chairmen on electoral victory

    Osagie Otabor, Akure

Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has challenged the newly elected council chairmen to work hard to ensure victory at the October 10, governorship election.

Governor Akeredolu charged them to immediately constitute campaign committees at their various local councils and begin the campaign at the grassroots.

Akeredolu who spoke in Akure at the swearing-in ceremony of the new council bosses reminded them that a victory of the APC at the October 10, polls would guarantee their three years tenure in office.

He noted that electoral victory was at the units and wards and that the APC must win handsomely at the polls

Governor Akeredolu who declared that the October 10 election is operation 18 to zero said praised residents of the state the peaceful conduct of the local elections.

Akeredolu insisted that the state and local government must work together to ensure people living in the villages get enough support from the government.

He enjoined them to focus on quality health care delivery, education, and agriculture.

His words, “The state government cannot do it alone. Autonomy cannot do it alone. We must work together so that our people must feel the impact of the government. Focus on health care delivery. All the neglected health centres, take hold of it. Make the people own them.

“In Education, we have buildings we have built through SUBEB. Keep the schools clean. They are yours they belong to the people

“Local government must have their own farms. This is the time to make good money from cassava.

“This administration frowns at impunity in any form. We will not condone any acts which may put our achievements in jeopardy. We will monitor the activities of all those given the mandate to serve. We will encourage ingenuity and resourcefulness. We will sanction, swiftly, any errant behaviour which treats the welfare of the people with contempt.

“We have tried our best since the inception of this administration by making the people the central focus of all our policies. We have tried to keep all unscrupulous persons masquerading as servants of the people at bay. We have severed ties from those whose deeds and preferences stand against decency and are inimical to the well-being of the people.

“Our ambition has been shaped by the overriding interest of the State. We have never been under any illusion that governance will not pose its challenges considering the precarious state of the economy when we assumed office and the continued slide in the economic fortunes of the country.

“We have, however, remained undaunted and resolute in our resolve to abridge the yawning gap in the welfare of our people. We have taken steps in which posterity will adjudge as prescient. We have succeeded, largely, in abridging the infrastructural deficit in spite of the acute paucity of funds. Workers and citizens have felt the direct and positive impact of governance.”

Threat to rig poll: ‘Arrest Kekemeke now’

    Our Reporter

A GROUP, the Democracy Action Vanguard, on Sunday called for the arrest and prosecution of a former chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Mr. Isaac Kekemeke, for threatening that the ruling party would deploy armed thugs and federal might to crush the opposition in the coming governorship election.

Kekemeke, one of the APC governorship aspirants, who recently reconciled with the candidate of the party in the October governorship election and incumbent governor, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), had in a viral video obtained by SaharaReporters threatened that the ruling APC would deal ruthlessly with the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Eyitayo Jegede (SAN).

He had said: “We will use National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) members and thugs loyal to us (APC) to win this election at all costs. Jegede (PDP candidate) is only crying foul that they tore his posters in town. He has not seen anything yet. Governor Akeredolu is the only one dealing with him now and he has started crying. When the Federal Government arrives the state for the election, he will run away.

Reacting to the video, Democracy Action Vanguard, in a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Mohammed Alhassan and made available to reporters in Abuja, called on the Inspector General of Police, the Department of State Services and the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) to arrest, investigate and initiate prosecution proceedings against the APC chieftain and his collaborators without delay.

According to the group, it is brazenly illegal and provocative for a ruling party to threaten violence and the use of federal might to win elections.

The statement said: “It is indeed unfortunate that 21 years into the restoration of civil rule, a high-ranking member of APC, a party which got into power through the electoral reforms initiated by the past PDP administration, will turn around to threaten fire and brimstone on the opposition in a desperate bid to win the October 10 poll in Ondo State at all costs.

“The threat is in fact doubly unfortunate given that the mindless violence that characterised the 1983 governorship election in Ondo State was one of the major factors that led to military rule and the abolition of the Second Republic, a tragedy for which Nigerians paid dearly.

“Kekemeke must explain APCs plans to intimidate the people of Ondo State and rig the October 10 governorship poll.  It is instructive that he mentioned the Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, while threatening to deal with Jegede in Ondo State. Those mentioned in the video, including Bello, should be quizzed.

I’m committed to violence-free election, says APC chieftain

    Osagie Otabor, Akure

A FORMER Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Isaacs Kekemeke, has said he is committed to a violence free governorship election.

He said he would work so hard with the All Progressives Congress (APC) to defeat the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Eyitayo Jegede.

The former governorship aspirant spoke in a letter to the Regent of Ibulesoro, Regent Moyinoluwa Olubunmi Falowo.

Regent Falowo had in an open letter expressed shock about a viral video of Kekemeke talking about the governorship election.

Falowo’s letter reads: “To you, it may have been an annual philanthropic project, but it was worth more than that for a young girl who just had her first shot at writing on a national issue. I saw you as a role model and was star struck.

“Since that day, I have admired you because of that single contribution to my life, winning a prize in your competition. In spite of emerging third, I have always added that achievement to my CV. I was that proud.

“I was appalled and disappointed when I saw the trending video where you boasted about your machinery of violence and intimidation on the coming governorship election. I saw the video multiple times in disbelief that it couldn’t have been you sir.

“Even though I have no personal relationship with you, the young secondary school girl inside of me felt hurt and betrayed by a leader she admired. I was scared when you called yourself a militant.

“I’m unsure if I can reference proudly my secondary school essay achievement any longer.

“Kindly apologise to the people of Ondo State. To you, it may have been political, but to us, it was a threat to our collective peace as a people. Kindly also commit to a violence free process. If not because of today, do it because of tomorrow.”

Kekemeke in his reply said the sarcasm and the humour contained in the home talk have been spinned and hyped to achieve political objectives.

He said his records in the politics of Ondo State as a militant (aggressive, defiant, fighter) are too well known and he is not ashamed of it.

    Ajayi accused of stockpiling arms

     Osagie Otabor, Akure

The Ondo State Youths Initiative (OSYI) has accused Ondo Deputy Governor and governorship candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Hon. Agboola Ajayi, of stockpiling arms and training militia groups ahead of the October 10, gubernatorial election.

It urged security agencies to be proactive and stop the governorship election from being marred with violence and irregularities.

The group stated some local governments in the state have been earmarked where the militia groups would be deployed to destabilise the October election.

Coordinator of the OSYI, Comrade Lukman Akintoye, who spoke in Akure, listed the local governments to include Ese-Odo, Ilaje, Akure South, Owo , Idanre, Akoko North East and Ose.

Akintoye alleged the militia group tested their might when they attempted to disrupt the local government election in Ese-Odo, even when the ZLP pulled out of the race.

He urged security agencies residents in the state to be on the lookout for strange faces during the election period.

He noted that the grand plan of Ajayi and his sponsors was to use the political thugs to disrupt the exercise in the stronghold of his political opponents.

“We want to put the public and our security agencies on alert and warn them to be wary of strange faces and movement in their neigbourhood, particularly people in Ese-Odo, Ilaje, Owo, Akure South, Idanre, Akoko North East and Ose local governments.

“Information at our disposal revealed that Ajayi in connection with some governors, who are sponsoring his governorship ambition, in their clandestine move are perfecting plans on how to deploy men of this militia group into these various local governments, three weeks before the poll with the sole aim of causing violence on the election day.

“We are appealing to our politicians, particularly the Hon. Agboola Ajayi to play by the rules and avoid do or die politics. We don’t want the repeat of 1983 political crisis again in our state,” the group said.

But Ajayi, who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Babatope Okeowo, urged the ruling APC not to hide under any pseudo organisation to make allegations.

Ajayi said it was the APC- led government which unleashed terror on the citizens under the pretence of conducting local government election last Saturday.

He stated that a trending video of a governorship aspirant, Mr Duerimini Isaacs Kekemeke showed the APC leader threatening to unleash terror on the people of Ondo State.

His words,:”In that video, the APC led government threatened violence in the October 10 governorship election. The APC led government promised to use Kogi model for the Ondo State election.

“Kekemeke who described himself as a militant said the NURTW members would be deployed to unleash terror on the people during the governorship election.

“If there is anybody stockpiling weapons, it is the APC leaders in the State as demonstrated in the just concluded charade called Local Government election on Saturday.

“Government officials in connivance with security agencies carted away ballot boxes. They broke limbs and destroyed properties.

“What the APC led government did on Saturday was a rehearsal for October 10 governorship election and people of the state must be prepared to defend their votes.”
