  • Why parents don’t want their children to succeed them

It is a natural thing to want to continue the family’s business. For most rich families who have had a high rate of success; the most important gift is not just coming into inheritance of the huge fortune- every child has that privilege. The most important gift is managing the wealth and transferring the secrets of the trade that has been sustained from your father to your yet to be born children. That trend is the rarest and most important gift in family owned businesses.

However in this survey conducted amongst automobile mechanics in Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria, the situation is not the same. Most parents don’t want their children to succeed them. Or better still, most parents who have learnt the trade are not willing to cajole their children to learn the trade and hereafter succeed them.

This survey carried out by a total of six Obafemi Awolowo University Students of the Faculty of Education establishes the fact that not all parents support their children in taking after them in the family business.

The research carried out by Sanusi Ridwan Olatunde, Akinbode Ismail Olanrewaju, Osuala Chinyere .C, Adekunle Abiodun Olusegun, Olabamiji Afolasade .A, Oyelade Oluwakemi Tosin contains the views and attitudes of the population of twenty (20) automobile mechanics towards their children’s entry and re-establishment of their existing family occupation. The location of the automobile mechanics being along Ede road and Ibadan road.

The case study focused on the off springs of automechanics. The survey was in two parts; Respondent knowledge on occupation and the respondent view or opinion on children’s attitude.

In the survey, all the respondents made it clear that they didn’t inherit the business from their forefathers. Only one was said to have inherited this occupation from his father. 17 of the respondents chose to learn this trade themselves, while 3 just got absorbed in the system. Only one of the respondent completed secondary education, the rest were in Primary and Secondary school when they commenced. As the duration in the business spanned between 61 – 10 years with 61 years being the longest and 10 years being the shortest.

13 respondents felt the work could be combined alongside schoolwork, while 7 respondents felt otherwise. 13 out of the 20 children of all respondents were interested in the automobile business. 7 children were not interested, based on matters relating to interest and coming of age. 10 parents said they forced their children to watch the work because they felt the business was lucrative, however the other 10 did not force their children to watch them work because they didn’t want them to be confused or distracted.

This also goes further to lend the fact that these parents were not interested in their children succeeding them however, with experience from a higher institution, the parents believed their children would make headway with the business. Of the total of 20 respondents that spoke, only 12 children of the 20 respondents were enrolled in a tertiary educational programme.

  • Yakubu Danjuma, the General who should not Throw stones

General T Y Danjuma a once Chief of the Nigerian Army and one time Nigeria’s Minister of Defense had on Saturday, March 24, 2018 during the convocation ceremony of the Taraba State University accused the Nigerian  Military of being far from neutral in the recent killings happening in certain parts of the North. The retired General also opined that the Armed Forces, were in the habit of covering those behind the attacks.

He also insinuated that that the citizenry will be deceived as to believe the Armed Forces are there to serve them, his final submission was as queer as all that he had to say — The people he advised, should consider defending themselves, otherwise, they will die, “one by one”!

These are damming things to say, not only by an elder statesman, but also judging from his position as a former Chief of Army Staff.

Undoubtedly our Dear country, Nigeria, is going through a score of security challenges in which many human lives have been lost to both armed bandits and communal clashes…. Such heightened clashes and banditry, have claimed scores of lives this year alone.

As such the situation for concern does exist. And perhaps the matter of incessant and seemingly segregated attacks on the Northern minorities must be seen as beyond happenstances, to warrant such a strong reaction from such an important figure as retired General Danjuma is.

These indictments are generally about PRESIDENT BUHARI’s APPROACH TO OUR SECURITY CHALLENGES…GOOD or BAD, General Danjuma is free to believe what he has by his own Free Will chosen to believe in, based on his convictions, let me also be permitted to take a stance based on my conviction too.

Between the year 2012 and 2015, the Boko Haram insurgency and terror engulfed no less than nine states of the North ,and the then President Goodluck Jonathan was even accused of being the creator of Terror among other things…

Our security forces were so overwhelmed that even Abuja the seat of power was attacked a few times by the terrorists…

All of these were damning for the then President and the Nation’s Armed Forces too were accused of even aiding the Terrorists, simply because the people were greatly traumatized.

It was a new kind of war that fighting Terror is, not a conventional war against a standard army. Terrorists are civilians who mingle unsuspectingly with the people and remain largely undetected.

The situation needed a new kind of approach and perhaps a New Government that the people would have the confidence in that they will be by it, be protected.

And on this basis, was President Buhari, elected.

Also based on this conviction has Nigerians in the three years down the line of Buhari’s rule, been collectively satisfied that this administration has greatly reduced the Boko Haram Terror to bare Nothingness…!

Churches and Mosques that used to be bombed every Sunday and Friday  from Maiduguri to Jos have become a distant history…. Months have gone on without a single terror incident occurring. Even the advanced countries are not free of Terror.

No doubt President Buhari has done exceedingly well on the war against Terror.

The Nigerian Army, since the advent of General Tukur Yusufu Buratai has also by same extension done exceedingly well to upturn the battered image of the Nigerian Army that suffered greatly due to the general loss of confidence in it during the time of President Jonathan, and this fact cannot be too overstretched either.

I won’t let any one make me believe for once that Nigeria is not by far, better off now, with all the efforts put in by both the President and the Army to combat not only the Boko Haram terror but also the greater challenges of banditry, communal clashes, foreign incursions and other criminalities that have sprung up in the two to three years since this government came on board.

That people like General T Y Danjuma believe this administration has not done enough or the army is not neutral, is based on the resurgence of some isolated attacks by  Boko Haram or the various bandits, foreign elements, militias disguising as herdsmen as we are all made to believe.

And with all the monies stolen, running into billions of dollars, meant for procurement of military equipment by the last administration, Nigerians should rather be thankful to this very committed Armed Forces that have continued to fight all our numerous security challenges with inadequate funds and Equipments..

General Danjuma and others should be insisting on proper funding of the Army and the Armed Forces to be able to effectively tackle all our very pressing and serious security issues.

To those who believe that the President is in support of a particular group killing another, or the Military is partisan, let it be known that it will simply not be possible in a Country like  Nigeria,  let alone an agenda of a President to be adopted by an independent and professional institution like the Nigerian Armed Forces.

The Nigerian Army will not sanction the killing of innocent Nigerians under any guise, it is  Simply not Possible.

And if the truth must be said, the Army has lost many of its gallant soldiers to these bandits and the army has killed and arrested many more of the so called Fulani Herdsmen — Wherefore has the very idea of the army aiding and abetting the criminals come to be in the mind of General Danjuma…!?

If anything, this President and the Nigerian Armed Forces, have shown the political will to fight insecurity in this country than what the last administration ever did….. Nigerians must never forget where we are coming from. Nigerians must never forget we are fighting a different kind of War.

Our soldiers are now well motivated than ever, they are getting required support as at when needed, army headquarters relocated to Maiduguri where it is most needed, gone are the days when all our army generals will sit tight in Abuja in the comfort of their luxurious apartments and receive situation reports on the phone or by signals only.

The Inspector General of Police was directed to relocate to Benue state because the President wanted an immediate end to the carnage being perpetuated there. Recently, the American President signed off on a deal to sell twelve super Tucano fighter jets to Nigeria, eight Mi-35M attack helicopters from Russia, five Super Mushshak aircraft from Pakistan, Yabhon Flash 20 Remote Piloted aircraft from the UAE all because this government is serious about fighting insecurity.

Not forgetting that President Muhammadu Buhari released an helicopter from the Presidential fleet to our troops for added support on this fight against all forms of insecurity, because he believes securing Nigeria and Nigerians should come before his own comfort.

What we are used to seeing in the recent past is the National Security Adviser, dispensing dollars to politicians, instead of fortifying our arsenal.

While we all sympathize with the people of Benue, Taraba and victims of Terror and Banditry in other states, we should not be so carried away as to stir up inter-tribal wars of attrition that are capable of aggravating the situation.

Our soldiers should be rather well motivated with encouraging words; the war they are fighting is not a conventional war that they are used to…. They should also be praised for restraint in the face of tensed situations that have not led to indiscriminate military actions like we had in Odi some years back.

Western leaders who used to tag us as a fantastically corrupt country will tell us now now that Buhari’s administration is one with sincerity of purpose.

Our expectations might be high, which is natural, but one never knows how hard it is to fight in an unconventional war, from the comforts of their palaces.. until one has experienced it, a conventional war defies strict military training solutions!

General Danjuma never foght in an unconventional war, so he may not know how hard and mentally tasking it is— just like a football game, spectators are the ones who knows how best to play.

His Wakeup call might be good, but his accusation of non-neutrality is Not.

His lamentation on the state of insecurity might also be needful, but not his assertiveness to people to pick up arms, that is a call to anarchy.

Condemning is natural for us humans. PATIENCE IS KEY so that we don’t escalate our insecurity issues to a full scale tribal war

In this regard it is better to state empirically the facts as it is so that Nigerians can best be served and the fears of General Danjuma, addressed.

The military has in place, “Exercise Cat Race”, an operation that engages troops to curb the menace of the herdsmen-farmers conflict and other  criminal activities in the North Central Region amongst others.

And while living up to its task of safeguarding the nation, some of the officers and personnel of our armed forces, have paid the supreme price in the battle against criminality.

For instance, a gallant non-commission officer of the Nigerian Army was beheaded on 16 March 2018 in Takum Taraba State by these same criminal that General Danjuma has claimed the Armed forces are aiding and abetting.

And there are other officers too that daily are in danger

It is therefore highly uncalled for, an invitation to anarchy that ordinary people should take up arms to defend themselves… By this, indiscriminate use of arms is certainly not a call to make, as it will lead to the breakdown of law and order in the country.

It should be disregarded by all well-meaning Nigerians.

The Nigerian Armed Forces has over the years earned international accolades for the sheer professionalism and patriotism in all its engagements, and this situation too will pass. Tensions are high, but higher is the stakes that can lead to anarchy.

A well organised and highly professional Armed Forces, motivated and appreciated will do us all, far more good than to accuse our Armed Forces, which comprises of all the tribes of complicity in discharging its constitutional mandate.

This situation in a democracy allows for expression and freedom of speech. But it should not be taken to the level of loose and gaseous expressions that are without proofs.

If our respected General has any evidence of wrongdoing or of dereliction of duty against our Armed Forces he should please bring them forward rather than to be making blanket and generalized statements that can throw the entire polity into a flaming discord.

It is also important to state that the frustration in the situation might be evident and embedded in the painful outburst of General Danjuma.

We need to all do more as Nigerians.

Once upon a time, General Babangida cried out that “Nigerian economy had defied all known solutions”.

At another time, the same General Danjuma had to throw in the towel as minister of Defence in President Obasanjo’s administration, when the usual Nigeria problems of selfishness, self interest, over national interests, were the order of the day.

Just recently President Jonathan said, Boko Haram had penetrated into his government, into his cabinet and traced their presence also, to the Legislative and Judicial arms of government… These are issues that this present administration have also inherited.

To date, known and unknown financiers of BH remain unmasked and elusive. The army under the leadership of General Tukur Yusufu  Buratai has managed to catch some notable backers and financiers of Boko Haram and I am sure in the no distant future, the backers of the herdsmen criminalities in the North Central zone will also be fished out by our Hardworking military leaders.

In truth, our gallant soldiers deserve every support and encouragement we could muster, we need from them, accountability and transparency in respect to human and material resources vis a vis the economy of the cost and opportunity cost implications of the unresolved crisis.

But us Nigerians too, should do more to help alleviate the problems of poverty, destitution  and insecurity in the affected areas.

The major cause of insurgency is frustration and poverty. Our politicians too should do so much more.

The wake up call is for all of us to be alert to our responsibilities. We are the government, not just President Muhammadu Buhari and his cabinet. They are only the beneficiaries of our freely given mandates that must be supported.

God bless our Dear Country. Amen.

Comrade Oladimeji Odeyemi,  the President of National Committee of Yoruba Youth (NCYY)

  • Our policies have led to improvement in transportation network, others – Buhari

PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI’S 2018 EASTER MESSAGE TO THE NATION

    Fellow Compatriots,

I am indeed delighted to join our Christian brothers and sisters to commemorate this year’s Easter celebration.

We thank the Almighty God for granting us the opportunity to celebrate another Easter at a time of great promise and hope for our dear nation, despite the challenges we also have.

Easter, the season in which Christians mark the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, represents the triumph of good over evil; and life over death. It is also a time to show love, forgiveness, compassion and renewed hope in the Grace of God.

The Holy Scripture affirms that happiness and fulfilment in life do not flow from acquiring the best things in life but in being richer in a relationship with God and fellow human beings.

Let us use the opportunity of this special season to deeply reflect on how everyone of us can imbibe the profound teachings of Jesus Christ with renewed vigour.

In so doing and by placing the joy, comfort and happiness of others above ours, we will make a statement that vices such as, hate speech, bigotry, corruption, banditry and terrorism have no place in our nation.

We must do all it takes to love our neighbours and display increased spirit of tolerance and accommodation.

I commend those who recognise and support our unwavering efforts to prevent the spread of conflicts in our communities; check wanton criminality and the taking of innocent lives; unite the country; and steer the ship of state to a steady path of economic growth, job creation and development.

While we enjoin law-abiding fellow compatriots to work for peace and social justice in our beloved country, let there be no doubt of our resolve to firmly resist others who may want to make cheap political capital out of current national security challenges.

Our programmes and policies in the last three years have resulted in bringing down the prices of staple crops, gradual improvement of road, rail and electricity infrastructure and making Nigeria the preferred destination for investors.

More than ever before, we are ready to consolidate on these gains and ensure that we improve the lot of our communities in the years ahead.

Thankfully, our Dapchi schoolgirls who were safely released recently after 30 agonising days in the hands of their abductors, have been reunited with their families.

I am very optimistic that all others, including the Chibok girls who are still in captivity will be safely released unconditionally to their families. I urge you to continue to pray for their safe return.

In the meantime, I have given clear instructions to our security agencies to prioritise safety in schools in areas where the humanitarian and security situation are still dire, in addition to ensuring adequate protection of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

As we approach the period of campaigns, I appeal to our political actors and other stakeholders to resist any act that could mar the integrity of our electoral process.

I am optimistic that with God on our side, the dark days of Nigeria’s elections being manipulated by violence and rigging by corrupt politicians and their agents are over.

They are confined to the dustbin of history where they rightly belong.

I remain committed to bequeathing a legacy of supremacy of the people’s will through the ballot box.

May this year’s Easter celebration bring us renewed hope and confidence as a great nation.

    Muhammadu Buhari

    President, Federal Republic of Nigeria

  • 670.42 % Debt: A Violation of DMO Rules, ADP Tells Ambode

The Action Democratic Party (ADP) has called on Governor Ambode to exercise immediate restraint in his borrowing spree; saying that the current over borrowing in the state is mortgaging the future of Lagosians.
In a statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday by the Lagos State Publicity Secretary of the party, Prince Adelaja Adeoye, he said, Lagos has always been known to be the most indebted state in Nigeria and that the hype that Lagos is self sufficient in terms of wealth is far from reality.
The party said that according to the guidelines of the Debt Management Office (DMO), the debt status of each state should not exceed 50 per cent of the statutory revenue in the previous 12 months.
ADP argues that in the light of the DMO guidelines on debt management framework, citing sections 222 to 273 of the Investment and Securities Act, 2007 pertaining to debt sustainability, the debt to income ratio of states should not exceed 50 per cent of their statutory revenue for the preceding 12 months but that the APC led administration in the state has flouted this.
ADP states that the debt to gross revenue ratio of 930.96 per cent is outrageous and that available projects does not reflect the actual borrowing in the state. The party says that they have no choice but to ask what the government of the day has been spending these monies on.
ADP says that most of the physical infrastructural development that made Lagos what it is today, were either constructed during the military era when Lagos was the capital of Nigeria or during the political leadership of Alhaji Lateef Jakande.
The party says that it is now obvious why the APC led government in the state is refusing to make public its financial statements; the party says that the government is run with no iota of accountability to Lagosians even with the craze of increasing taxes indiscriminately.
ADP is shocked that Lagos state debt has hit $1.47billion, the highest in the history of any state government in Africa. The party has reiterated its call for Governor Ambode to make open the budget of Lagos State and implement the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act in the state to enable Lagosians have access to information about the activities of their government.
Speaking on the infrastructural development in the state, ADP said that most of the projects initiated by the Ambode led government are just for show and for photo op. The party claims that anyone who doubts their position should take a tour to the nooks and crannies of Lagos where the people live in very inhumane conditions.
The ADP says that most of the communities in the state lack basic amenities such as access to water, electricity, security, affordable healthcare, affordable housing, refuse and sewage disposal mechanisms, etc.
ADP has however assured Lagosians to be ready for massive reconstruction of Lagos as they are waiting to take over power in 2019. The party has said emphatically that they will open the books of Lagos to the public and they will give to Lagosians that real status of Centre of Excellence.
  • Group slam Danjuma over statement urging citizens to resort to self help

The Coalition of Youth Leaders, representing the Southern states of Nigeria,  have condemned the call by former Minister of Defense and former Chief of Army Staff (COAS),  General Theophilus Danjuma, urging citizens to resort to self help and violence , in areas where the country have continued to witnessed clashes between herders and farmer, and those, which has been under the attack of armed Militias, in some parts of the country.

Recall that General Danjuma, has during the inaugural convocation ceremony of the Taraba State University, Kalinga, accused security agencies, particularly the Army, of aiding the Armed Militias, whenever there are reported cases of attacks, in the affected areas.

Rising from an emergency meeting in Lagos on Sunday, the group in a statement issued and signed by President of National Committee of Yoruba Youth,  Comrade Odeyemi Oladimeji,  Dr. Fidelis Nze(KSC) representing the Southeast Proffessionals in Diaspora and Chief Godwin Ogerugba of the Federation of Southsouth Patriotic youths,  said the statement by General Danjuma, is unexpected of an elder Stateman of his status, as it can best be seen, as an open declaration of war against the Nigerian nation, also being a great disservice to democracy in the country.

“As young Nigerians, we consider it worrisome and highly shameful to listen to the former Chief of Army Staff and Elder Statesman,  Gen TY Danjuma,  a man who has profited massively from his position and influence in the Nation, verbally indicting the Nigerian Army and calling for anarchy, without a shred of evidence on the altar of ethnicity and primordial sentiment of collision with criminal elements. If a man of General T Y Danjuma’ s status can make the statement he made about the Nigerian Army in a public event in his locality rather than lend the Nation his wealth of experience to tackle our security challenges. When a supposed leader of the nation can seek to make a statement like ” Somalia will be a child’s play ” , on issues he should understand requires maturity and sensitivity.  Then we just can’t help being so sad. The Nigeria we live today is the Nigeria,  General TY Danjuma and his cohort built for us.  A land where we live in insecurity and ethnic distrust.  Where we are all so poor yet strive for happiness.  General Danjuma is worth a few billion dollars,  and the question is this, does General TY Danjuma really feel our pain as a Nation.  On this, General TY Danjuma goofed and his statement is politics taken too far” the statement read.

“At this crucial time in our nation, statements like this are very sad and a complete reversal of all the democratic experience we have built and nurtured in Nigeria in the last 18 years. A University’s Convocation which normally should have been an opportunity to educate the young generation of our people and promote National unity, was instead turned into a call for war and violence by an elder statesman.

“As a generation, we will not fold our arms and allow  any war monger, to destroy our hard earned democracy. We will not stop but continue to alert Nigerians and the international community to the danger that these self serving individuals are posing to our democracy.

Finally, we urge Nigerians, particularly the youth of the troubled region of the Northeast and the North central, to disregard any call for lawlessness and support the effort of our security agencies, in ridding our country of the activities of these criminal elements, who are hell bent on destabilizing our democracy.

  • Ogun school where pupils learn under Mango Tree despite N30M allocation

Akere, a riverine community located in the interiors of Idiroko LCDA, Ipokia Local government Ogun state boasts of a population of 3000 inhabitants. The community which shares boundaries with Badagry in Lagos State and Benin Republic, is home to the Ipokia Local Government Primary School, Akere. The primary school provides elementary education to children in the community as well as other neigbouring villages namely Wheke, Ilasa, Ajaluto, Gbodota and Zebe, despite it decrepit state.

When Tracka, a community of active citizens tracking the implementation of government project visited the school on 20th September, 2017, the learning condition was found to be totally horrendous. About half of the school’s population were seen learning outside the classrooms under the scorching sun without any protection over their heads, save a Mango tree which about three out of six classes were made to seek shelter under.

    Ogun School

The failure of government to deliver on its expected duties over the school has resulted into most of the children in the community going as far as Apapa and Badagry in Lagos State which is about 30 minutes ferry across the ocean. The only private school in the community built by the Redeemed Christian Church of God is beyond the reach of many parents in the community.
During a recent visit, Tracka observed that the sad condition of the school has been further aggravated by the removal of the roof of one of the tattered classrooms by the State Universal Basic Education Board.

It was also observed that six to seven pupils sit on a bench meant for two pupils while others resort to sitting on the bare floor. There is also deficiency in staff strength as only four class teachers cater for six classes with one Assistant Head teacher and one Head teacher. Also, the classroom floors are bare and sandy, predisposing pupils to health hazards.

It was also learnt that he headmaster from his meager earnings single handedly concretized the floor of the class for the primary one pupils due to his awareness of their high susceptibility to feeble pathogens. The Head teacher’s office was seen under the mango tree, the school has no store and, in the process, most of the government owned books given to the school have been stolen. Again, the state’s intervention project by SUBEB which was donated in 2012 has remained uncompleted, the last furniture given to the school by this body was in 2007.

The Tracka team sensitized the school and community on the proposed project for the school which is the ‘Renovation of Blocks of 8 Classrooms in Akere, Agosasa, Ajegunle and Idogo’ for N30M. This could in turn be interpreted as renovation of a block of two classrooms for a sum of Seven million and five hundred thousand naira at each of the four schools. The disclosure of this information impulsively raised the people’s hope, but Tracka maintained that they must inform their representative of the awareness of the project and demand implementation and they did.

    Ogun School

However, feedback from the community leader, Chief Gandonu Joseph has not been positive as he stated that Hon. Akinlade Adekunle Abdulkabir, the law maker representing the area in the National House of Assembly, Abuja neither pick calls nor respond to messages–a development which started since the community became aware of the project.

The situation in Akere is not in tandem with what is obtainable in other part of the state as projects that have not yet been completed are either ongoing or close to completion in most cases. It is also expected that the state government ought to have prioritized the renovation of some of the ebbing schools, rather than embarking on new school projects in the state.
Tracka and the community are highly expectant that the community’s awareness about the school project would eventually translate into the implementation of the projects both at Akere and the remaining three schools.

  • Music Review: FaceTime

Facetime is that song you can enjoy stuck in the traffic, stuck in the bathroom shower or on the road just taking in good vibes.

LottoBoyzz’s FaceTime is a song that is going to give lead vocalists a run for their money. Even WizKid’s and Tiwa’s vocals should be warned. These two fellas got bars.

While people would rather WhatsApp or use Facebook Messenger, Twitter, Instagram or Snapchat; Lottoboyzz would rather prefer a Face time.

FaceTime is an app that shares the same features as IMO or WhatsApp visual features in connecting with your partner. It is purely FaceTime where you communicate through video and instead of clacking fingers via keypads; FaceTime is a persuasive call to a lover to just have a Face time than wallowing in the business of exchanging wack emojis.

Which obviously betrays one’s true feelings.

In a world where fake responses occur via chat; FaceTime is a way to test the true strength of love’s resolve.

Hence the first line: “And I don’t really like typing, Babe just FaceTime me.”

The features of FaceTime require you registering undiluted attention to the person in the visual conversation and as such, the song begs the lover to leave other guys on WhatsApp and spend quality time with him, asking her how she got the perfect body curves.

It doesn’t just stop there; this smitten lover wants more than just company, he wants to spice up the game by eventually hanging out with his lover.

Read Also: Beware of fake watch carriers

Weird innit? Africans don’t do FaceTime.

But this guy has already laid down his criteria. He obviously wants to use the FaceTime to check how curvy the lady on the other side is. If she is not thick enough or her curves are not real enough, they wouldn’t hang out or go on a date.

Isn’t that why he wants to ask how she got her bum fat?

What is spectacular about FaceTime is LottoBoyzz ingenuity in registering a theme we are familiar with. Other artistes sing songs praising female attributes openly but LottoBoyzz do this seamlessly with several metaphors hidden in the lyrics and feel good instrumentals to accompany the beat.

FaceTime is sweet yet sublime with several puns and vague expressions oozing out with a very well delivered lyric. If you don’t like this song from the first word till the end; you definitely are a rock that doesn’t want to be moved.

I will rate FaceTime a 9/10. It is a song for all seasons and it says the same thing differently. Nigerian Music has continued to have song clichés; you can easily predict how a song like this would do in the hands of popular A list artistes with loads of several vulgar characteristics to describe the body of a woman. FaceTime says this in mild terms with a video that is just fine.

LottoBoyzz would go far in the Nigerian Music scene with songs well laid out like this.

  • Beware of fake watch carriers

I am currently a fake wrist watch carrier. This is my personal confession on the path to restitution.

I know you are all smiles now probably wondering what I mean by being a “fake watch carrier.”

A fake watch carrier is one who wears a watch that doesn’t work. Now this watch that never works can never ever work.

You heard me clear. It can never work! And for some of us, the watch used to work before but since it is too fashionable, like mine, it is too hard to throw away.

While for some others the watch has stopped working ages ago. But slay queens must pepper them and men must show their swag. So, what do we do?

We wear fake watches that never tells the time.

Don’t blame us. You know I said this was a confession. I am changing slowly, so I publicly restitute with this testament.

If you are a fake watch carrier just say “Oh, yeah!”

One day I was quietly embarrassed by the fake watch. Many times, I cradle my phone, so when someone asks for time from my watch, I just use my phone and tell the time.

On this very day, I was running late and I got into this three vehicular machine we all use. Three minutes down the line and someone was gesticulating to my fake watch.

Apparently, he went thus: “Sir, he nodded with respect, ” What is the time?”

I quickly spun out my phone and told him. He wasn’t too convinced and looked at me wondering why I had to stress myself. Reaching for my phone was now stress, in his mind.

He stared at me for awhile and the beautiful lady who might have laughed at me in her mind.

I was sad, I knew I was ousted. But how can I stop wearing this favourite watch of mine?

It has this silver lining that is responsible for its beautiful glitters. I love it and I am too lazy to repair it.

Too much workload and stuff to worry about.

But sadly, I wear this watch all about Lagos.

Are you a fake watch carrier? Tell us in the comment box!

    I will be waiting.

  • Dapchi kidnap: CSO accuses amnesty international of undermining Nigeria’s sovereignty

The group in a statement issued in Lagos on Tuesday and jointly signed by its Convener and Registrar, Comrade Odeyemi Oladimeji and Atani John respective, described the recent statement credited to the Right Group, where it said “Nigerian Security Forces ignored warnings about Boko Haram attack on Dapchi” as totally undeserving and a joke taken too far by Amnesty International, at the expense of Nigeria’s Internal Security and sovereignty.

The statement further said the group is increasingly worried, about the actual motive of AI, and it’s persistent criticism of the Nigerian Security Forces, who have spent the last few years, working through extreme conditions, towards ensuring that the Boko Haram insurgency, and all other forms of insurgency in the Country is brought to a halt.

“We want Nigerians and the International community to know, that AI is on a clear-cut mission of sabotaging our nation’s security, by tactically using its many and persistent frivolous reports, to demean the effort of our armed forces, and ostensibly ginger the Boko Haram terrorists, who again have began tormenting the North East region of the country, through their isolated attacks on soft targets, including the recent callous abduction of 110 School girls in Dapchi, Yobe State,  the statement said.

“We have also noted that anytime the Boko Haram insurgents are dealt serious blows by our gallant forces, the AI is immediately out with one form of accusation or the other, against our armed forces. This often time results, in a heightened tempo of terrorism in the the North East, as we see the role of Amnesty International, as such that gives commendation and undeserved protection, to these criminal gangs, terrorising our people.”

The group further said the latest report by AI, accusing Nigerian Security Forces of ignoring warnings about an impending invasion of Dapchi, is apparently fabricated, lacks substance and should not be taken serious by Nigerians and anyone at all.

“Nigerians and the international community need to know, that it has become the norm, for Amnesty International, to ignore basic standards of consulting critical stakeholders, particularly the leadership of the various security agencies, in order to ascertain the veracity of its numerous accusations against them, but will rather rush to the public with unverified, beer parlour gossips and poorly cooked up tissue of lies to defame the integrity of security institutions in the country.”

“From all indications, It is becoming clear that AI is testing the patience of Nigerians by this inordinate interference in our internal security matters. They cannot continue to demoralize our gallant men and women, who have dedicated their lives, to the protection of our lives and the territorial integrity of our Nation. This is unacceptable.”

While urging Nigerians to disregard the AI’s latest report on the Dapchi School girls abduction, the group urged the Nigerian Security agencies, particularly the Nigerian Army, not to be distracted by the report like many other that have emanated from AI, as it also called on the United Nations and the international community, to call the AI to order, especially in its works, as it affects the internal security matter and sovereignty of Nigeria.

  • Buhari: We are committed to the transformation, diversification of the economy

ADDRESS BY HIS EXCELLENCY, PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI, DURING THE OFFICIAL COMMISSIONING CEREMONY OF THE SUNTI GOLDEN SUGAR ESTATE (SGSE) IN NIGER STATE, 15TH MARCH 2018

I am very pleased to be here today to formally commission the Sunti Golden Sugar Estate.

    2. This project is timely as Nigeria makes her journey out of recession and the economy continues to show considerable progress. We are reminded of one of the cardinal objectives of this administration which is to look inwards as we focus on our natural endowments in agriculture, and other non-oil sectors for inclusive growth and development.

    3. The level of work and magnitude of investment that we are witnessing here today is a clear demonstration that our policies on economic diversification are attracting the right kind of support and engagement. On that note, I must congratulate the entire members of the board, management and staff of Flour Mills for such a major step in expanding the business and creating more jobs for our people.

    4. Since the establishment of Flour Mills in 1960, the company has repeatedly shown commitment to Nigeria, through good times and bad.

    5. The Sunti Golden Sugar Estate, as I am told, was built at a cost of over fifty billion naira making it one of the largest Agro-allied investments in Nigeria today, with a capacity to produce 100,000 metric tons of sugar annually.

    6. I am informed the Estate will engage up to 10,000 people directly including a network of over 3,000 small-scale out growers of Sugar cane. This to my mind is central to our administration’s determination to have an inclusive economy. The socio-economic impact of such a massive investment, in rural area of Nigeria, cannot be quantified.

    7. Lives will change for thousands in these localities. And the impact on the national economy will be significant.

    8. The location of the Sunti Sugar Estate on the banks of the River Niger is as notable as it is commendable. The enormous economic possibilities inherent here have perhaps been overlooked for far too long. It is on record that the Niger River Basin has played an essential role in the lives of the people who have had to depend on the basin for their subsistence.

    9. And when we take into cognizance the tributaries of the river and the proximity to the Kainji dam and the ecosystem, it is time we explore how this massive body of resources can be converted to a hub for industry and commerce. To that end, I call on other investors to take a cue from what we are witnessing today and come and invest heavily in this area.

    10. Let me reassure Nigerians, that this administration is fully committed to the transformation and diversification of the economy. We will continue to support businesses by creating enabling business environment.

    11. I wish to assure Nigerians that this government will continue to focus on the improvement of security and critical infrastructure, like roads, construction of rails and power generation across the country as a vital pre-requisite to economic progress.

    12. We all know that Government cannot do everything alone. We will need to partner with the private sector. Therefore, we expect that the company would seize this opportunity to further develop the Sunti-Mokwa Road through its corporate social responsibility programs. This will complement the flour mills ongoing rebuilding of the critical Apapa-Wharf Road in conjunction with other private and public-sector stakeholders.

    13. The world over, Sugar has been identified as a key commodity that is critical to national food security. Other than the development of local content, an investment of this size in the sugar value chain will not only help to stem the tide of importation of sugar and save foreign exchange, but enhance rural industrialization and create wealth amidst rural poverty. For this, I must commend the Flour Mills of Nigeria.

    14. Once again I say congratulations to the Board, the Management and staff of Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc for this landmark project.

I thank you most sincerely for your attention.
