She wrote: ‘ if you’ve been sexually harassed or assaulted, write ‘me too’ as a reply to this tweet’.

Lots of people, replied to this message. while some just wrote #metoo, others reacted by sharing their personal experiences.

Interestingly, it has been observed that men are also victims of assaults as the movement had lots of them sharing and describing their experiences.

Ebun Peter: NDLEA’s multi-talented officer killed in Kogi

One of the three officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) killed in Kogi state last Friday was Ebun Peters, a multi-talented 41-year old man.

Apart from his job, he was a photographer, hunter, choirmaster of the local Catholic Church and a frontline role player in community affairs.

In a face book post republished below, Mr Tunde Ipinmisho, a relative of the deceased laments the alarming state of insecurity in Kogi.

When Will the Days of Evil End in Kogi State?

Three officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on routine patrol to rid the state of illicit drugs and psychotropic substances, were on Friday night ambushed and shot dead in Okene, Kogi State.
They did nothing wrong other than carry out the commitment they signed to when they took up their jobs, to use the instrumentality of their office to help make Nigeria a better country.
The tragic incident has further reinforced the not too far fetched belief in many quarters that Kogi State is today the most dangerous territory to visit or travel through.
One of those killed is Sunday Olumayowa Ebun Peters, my 41 year old first cousin ( her mother is my mum’s immediate elder sister).

Sunday’s mother who is in her 80s has remained inconsolable since elders of our community summoned the courage to break the unsavoury news to her.
His death has also cast a pall on the community as folks recall the various roles he took on in his life.
As usual, the law enforcement agencies in Kogi State have announced that they are on top of the matter. We know better.
There is a more fundamental problem in Kogi State. There is no government in place that could genuinely be called by that name and there is no governance of any sort.
When you put the unprepared in power, the fabric of state suffers abysmal decay.
Tomorrow, we will let Sunday down into the grave and will leave him there to bear our loss. However, the question would still need to be answered as to when it would be safe again for decent, law abiding citizens of Nigeria to visit Kogi State without nursing fears about what fate awaited them in the hands of kidnappers, gunmen, hoodlums (in and out of government) and ritualists and contract killers. Those should ordinarily be in a position to answer the question are too drunk with graft to bother.
  • Osinbajo’s denial: So who signed NNPC’s contracts?

Osinbajo’s denial: So who signed NNPC’s contracts?

Earlier on Thursday, Osinbajo’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande in a series of tweets said that the Vice President approved financing joint ventures for Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

Akande said the financing were approved after due diligence by the Vice President when he acted as President when President Muhammadu Buhari was away in the United Kingdom.

The VP’s aide said his principal approved the recommendations for the financing as part of necessary actions to deal with the backlog of unpaid cash calls and incentivise investments.

According to Akande Professor  Osinbajo made the clarification in view of media enquiries that followed NNPC’s claim that the contracts were indeed approved by Osinbajo.

“Action necessary to deal with huge backlog of unpaid cash calls which Buhari adm inherited and also to incentivise much needed fresh investments in the oil & gas sector,” Akande had tweeted.

However hours later, Akande issued a statement in which he said Professor Osinbajo,  said that he only approved two loans for the NNPC and not contracts as reported by the media.

Osinbajo made the clarification in Bonny Island where he flagged off the Bodo-Bonny Road, Rivers state.

His words: ” They were of financing loans, joint venture loans, that have procured so in some cases NNPC ventures have to secure loans and they need the authorization to secure those loans.

“While the President was away, I granted authorization which is what the law provides.

“The law actually provides for that authorization, so I did grant all of those, in fact, there were two of them but those are presidential approvals but they are specifically for financing joint ventures and they are Loans not Contracts”, the Vice President added.

Based on the earlier claim by the NNPC, the controversial contracts were signed when President Muhammadu Buhari was out of the country for medical treatment.

If Buhari indeed signed the contracts, he must have done so while in London having handed over government to Osinbajo as Acting President.

The question begging for answer is who really signed the contracts which were not sent to the NNPC board headed by Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr Ibe Kachikwu.

  • Tagbo’s death: Danger of mixing drugs with drinks

Tagbo’s death: Danger of mixing drugs with drinks

Tagbo Umeike, the late 35-year-old friend of Davido, hiphop musician  died on his birthday after reportedly consuming 10 shot of tequila and  engaging in a competition with friends at a shisha room in Lagos Island.

The details of the Medical Examiner’s office autopsy made public revealed that alcohol was a substantial factor that led to Tagbo’s death.

The medical examiner result, which was released on the 9th of October, showed that Tagbo had alcohol and drugs in his system capable of easing a person into the early stages of hypothermia and eventual death.

Related: Davido’s friend Tagbo died from suffocation, autopsy reveals

The toxicology tests detected alcohol (Bacardi 151, 75.5% Alcohol) and Topiramate, a medication for epilepsy and/or migraines in a man’s system, in Tagbo.

Tagbo’s blood-alcohol concentration (BAC) by the report of the examiner was said to be at 0.112, higher than the 0.08 legal limit for normal human being, the coroner’s office stated.

    Topiramate and Alcohol

Topiramate (also known as Topamax) is an anticonvulsant (antiepilepsy) drug. It is used for epilepsy in children and adults, originally used as an anticonvulsant. It also used in reducing the number of migraines.

Also Read: Tagbo: Police quizzes Davido for lying

Mixing Topomax with Alcohol mostly beverages with ethanol, leads to excessive somnolence (drowsiness or sleepiness) and other forms of nervous system depression. Both when combined are synergistic. It enhances the effect of either or both.

Topiramate, like alcohol, can cause dizziness, impaired memory, impaired concentration, poor coordination, confusion and impaired judgment. The central nervous system depression, or impairment, combined with cold exposure can hasten the onset of hypothermia and death.”

Effect of ethanol in Tequila and other alcohols

An alcoholic beverage is a drink that contains ethyl alcohol (ethanol). Ethanol is a psychoactive drug and is one of the oldest recreational drugs known to man. It is responsible for the state of alcohol intoxication in humans when consumed.

Tequila, Whisky, Rums, Vodka, Brandy, Scotch or scotch, all are produced with ethanol, so mixing it with an-depressants, painkillers, sedatives and antipsychotics will have detrimental side effects on the body, by reducing the effectiveness of medications, and increase the risk of overdose and death.

If a prescription drug is taken, the drug half-life is always unknown or the rate at which it is eliminated from the body. For this reason, it is always believed that the drug is out of body system when it really isn’t.

If alcohol is then taken while the prescription drug is still in body, there is a high rate of it being detrimental to the body system.

  • If I weren’t a girl

    If I weren’t a girl

If I weren’t a girl, heavens knows what would become of me.

If I weren’t a girl, I would have probably come as a boy, an animal or even as an insect…these would have been disappointing!

If I weren’t a girl, just how do I become a virtuous woman?

If I weren’t a girl, there won’t be chances of becoming a mother nor a home builder.

Yes, I am a girl, bold and beautiful. Girls, never allow anybody bring down your self-esteem. Your playing small does not serve the world; there is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that the next person wouldn’t feel insecure.

If anyone does rise up again and build it. Though you’re prone to much negativity like domestic violence, trafficking and all sorts, it doesn’t change your being. Stand up for what’s right, fight for what’s good.

What a man can do, a woman can do better. In other words, what a boy can do, a girl can do better. So don’t let nobody tell you that your education ends in the kitchen because it never started there and won’t end there.

Women around the world are becoming Presidents, Ministers, Senators…yours shouldn’t be an exception. Heads up, chin up, and be ready to go up.

She is very productive with whatever is in her care; give her a house and she gives you a home, give her semen, she gives you children, groceries and she turns it to food. You’re a nation builder; don’t let anyone tell you otherwise!

  • I am proud to be a girl

I am proud to be a girl

A girl is a female human; she goes through stages of life from childhood, adolescence until she becomes a woman.

Well, as a girl child I am a proud lover, wife, daughter, mother, sister and of course a proud citizen.

I am that girl, because I believe that I deserve to feel proud of my achievements and not deliberately reduce my light and shine because someone else feels insecure.

I have a brilliant mind and a beautiful heart. I am me…yes perfectly flawed but beautyFULL work in progress.

There are a lot of things only a girl can do that will make everyone around so so proud!

Most people (especially in this part of the world) consistently undermine the value and relevance of the female child; they would prefer a male child who is capable of “preserving” the family name.

In this century, ladies still choose to use their father’s name combine with their husband’s name which makes it a compound name.  For instance, Mrs Bimpe Adekoya-Moses.

The ‘Adekoya’ is the father’s name while the ‘Moses’ is the husband’s name.

Let’s not get it twisted, we know the saying that “what a man can do, a woman can do better”, this is a FACT!

We are fragile, we are a jealous, we get hurt very easily, however, in all our seeming weaknesses, we are stronger than you think.

We are very creative, innovative and persistent especially when we want something; even if sometimes we hardly get what we want.

Being a girl isn’t easy, especially in this time and age. We are sensitive to pain, we get heartbroken easily.

As we celebrate the international day of the girl child, we recognize the importance and strength that she portrays and expresses. This celebration isn’t just about fundraising and raising awareness, it is about collection of data to learn as much as we can.

Forget that boring song “This is a man’s world”, it’s time we started to dance and sing to more interesting songs like “who runs the world…girls!!!”.

We are in a world where adolescent girls have unfettered access to sexual and reproductive health information and services; they possess the knowledge and confidence they need to make the right choices for a healthy life.

I am a girl and I am proud of myself.

    I am pretty, cool, soft-hearted.

We are all beautiful and are the masterpiece of the greatest sculptor ever – God! Little wonder he made us from a finished product (that is, from the man), and not directly from dust.

  • TOTEM: A poem

    TOTEM: A poem

This poem runs an unbiased commentary on the latest and unusual happening, being the first of it’s kind in the Yoruba culture, in the marital foray of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Ogunwusi and his ex-queen Zaynab Otiti Obanor.
]As it carefully doesn’t heap the blame on either of the parties, it clearly delves into a deep analysis of the Yoruba culture, our personality struggles and how much they clash with the role of the gods in our affairs as humans.

For Her Highness, Zaynab Otiti Obanor

    Ifa is a corpus,
the last gift Orunmila got from the Creator –
    the divinity. the prophecy.
    The gods are errand boys,
the bridge between the earth and beyond –
    the crown is the deputy,
    Alase Ekeji orisa –
    the Oonirisa,
    the powers that be.

    Uneasy,they do say –
lies the head that wears a crown –
    ori ti o maa d’ade,
inu agogo ide ni ti n wa.
Orun to maa lo igba ileke,
inu agogo ide ni ti n wa.
Kara-ibadi ti o so ileke iyun,
mo sebi inu agogo ide ni ti n wa.
Equity is the principle that guides life,
    not equality.

    The common man
    and the royalty,
    drank from a tap –
    rooted from a source –
    sprouted from an harem –
    they both have footprints,
    they both can run –
    but not from their shadows..
what distinguish a man and the crown,
    is the other realm –
    the spirit world.

    The king –
    the husband of the witches,
    the husband of the genies,
    the husband of the women,
    green. black. yellow.
    oba lo nile,
    all that be –
    belongs to the king –
his control remains on the formidable humans,
not the gods that enthroned him.
And the moment one kisses the king,
    she become a goddess.
Then, the clash of the titans..
    a power clash.
    Or how would two souls,
stand upright in place of a soul ?

    She is a woman –
    she is magic herself –
for her bottom power speaks for her
and she is the common man –
who can lobby with the gods –
    she stands in the quest,
    of being a king
    and being a natural genie.
But the Abobaku(s) are now scared of death,
no wonder a man fled into hiding some seasons back,
so he won’t swim beyond the earth with a king –
    that was once a king.
    She is the King’s wife
    not Abobaku..
for even Abobaku o fe ku mo.

    Who is a queen ?
Is it the woman that smooch the skin of the crown,
or that woman whose tongue cuts through the ear lobe –
of the feared deputy of the other world ?
    Perhaps,
    a queen is she –
who has dined in a calabash with the gods,
    a queen is she –
who has tasted what the gods tasted,
    a queen is she –
who has ventured to the other coven…
a queen is not just the she –
who roam in the four corners of aafin,
a queen is not the she –
who serve the king a free portion of her body,
    when night falls.
For the king has concubines –
    and choice wives.
    The father has that son,
who is the apple of his eye –
    the king has that woman,
who is the favorite amongst others –
    perhaps,due to her exquisite beauty
    or unrivalled wisdom.
When these physical gifts are gone,
she is just a common woman –
    never a Queen
    but a choice wife..
    aayo-oba.

    And
the poor cry fifty times a day,
the tears of the rich are unquantified..
what happens behind the closed door,
    I don’t know –
    you don’t know..
we know what they want us to know,
and like the gullible we were thought to be,
we believed the cock and bull stories..
    what happens behind closed door,
is more than meet the eyes.
    cries..shouts..screams.. fidgets..
    that’s what comes with –
    royalty.
    tears. blood.
that’s what forms the water –
    of royalty.
    Royalty don’t just die,
    they are killed –
    for spirits don’t die,
we don’t call it suicide –
    it is a pass over.

Some bear the mysteries that linger in royalty –
    because of wealths. inheritance. status.
Some can’t just bear the mysteries –
    for they might go blind.
And what law ordained that –
when a feet step out of the palace,
she can’t roam freely on the popular world ?
    Even *akudaaya* roam freely.

    Soldier goes,
    soldier comes.
    A soldier today,
    a soldier forever.
But a soldier can dump his belt –
    and pick a gauntlet.
She is out of the palace –
she is no more a spirit –
    she is a woman..
    she was always a woman,
for *ade isembaye* make a king,
    and hence,she was not a queen –
    but a choice wife.
The spiritual realm is built on choices –
    not compulsion.
    The gods don’t dictate,
    they prophesy.
And Olodumare has total powers over prophecy..
for it to come to life or not,
just like He control a blossom –
to last for long or not.

Go to the earth and multiply !
    was the command of Olodumare.
If this land is of no convenience,
then we can always sojourn to another land –
    we are all common men,
until we see what we shouldn’t see.
And we can always be common again –
    it’s from the heart,
    not from the body.

    Memory will have it –
as the queen who didn’t last for two years,
    because she couldn’t endure –
    the ghommids called royalty.
    But –
there is always a second chance,
    until death comes.
She is not to be blamed –
the gods are not to be blamed,
    choice. choice. choice.
we always want to apportion blames –
    we are still blind.

Some water have flowed for ages,
that dusts now make a nest out of it.
    The chain would still continue,
as our heritage now turn to sham –
and the other world cackle at us..
the gods are laughing at our foolishness,
for no aspersion is to be casted on her –
she is never to be blamed.
She can once again, roam the free world..
    liberty. choice. wisdom.
    Yo yo yo,
    Yoruba..
    E ronu.

  • Because you a girl

    Because you a girl

Because you’re a girl, you should be happy

You should be tough, made of the toughest materials

Soft, penetrable, ludicrous, yet strong and firm as a rock!

Because you’re a girl, you should not withstand the storm, you should be the storm

Because you’re a girl, You Don’t Have to Be Pretty.

You don’t owe prettiness to anyone.

Not to your boyfriend/spouse/partner, not to your co-workers, especially not to random men on the street.

You don’t owe it to your mother, you don’t owe it to your children, you don’t owe it to civilization in general.

Prettiness is not a rent you pay for occupying a space marked ‘female’

Because you’re a girl, you shouldn’t hate yourself, so that’s why you need to be very brave

Because you’re a girl, you should not let them shut you up, you should talk, scream, shout! Let your voice be heard

Because you’re a girl, You should have aspirations, beautiful solid aspirations, untainted by culture and its nuances

You’re supposed to be made of courage, sacrifice, determination, commitment, toughness, heart, talent and guts!

Happy International Day of Girl Child
