  • Eight ways to be perfect lover during her period

Eight ways to be perfect lover during her period

When your babe’s monthly visitor is around, the initial instinct of perhaps the most patient lover may be to hide and wait for ‘it’ to run its course and go away.

Unfortunately, this may not always be the best course of action. Have in mind that, a girl on her period isn’t to be feared or avoided like some plague. You simply need to understand what she’s going through and how to make her feel better.

Your babe’s period is one of the perfect opportunities for you to step up and show her that you’re man enough to take care of her and more importantly that you don’t love her less.

Below are eight ways you can be a perfect lover to your babe during her ‘red alert’:

Ask her what you can do to help

There’s no miracle cure for making a girl on her period feel better. Every woman has different preferences but you can somehow make a difference. As such in other not to be found wanting, just ask her what you can do to help out.

Whether it’s running to the store to get pads or tampons or helping out with the chores, just keep in mind that she may be feeling really horrible and that those simple tasks can mean the world to her.

    Answer questions with care

A girl on her period may not realise it, but there are times when they can’t help but put their men in the spotlight by asking questions that have no right answer.

And when you attempt to answer those questions, you may be assaulted by a bombardment of angry words, tears, and the occasional threat to break up.

    Avoid sensitive subjects

Your woman may usually be a rational and easygoing person. But when she’s on her period, she may not respond with the same nonchalance as she would on a regular day.

So before you tell her about your honest opinion on one of her all-time favourite movies or casually mention an out-of-town trip with just the guys, consider telling her about it when she’s no longer as moody.

Anything that might elicit the slightest hint of annoyance might turn into full-blown anger when a girl is on her period and already battling her hormones.

With that said, it’s best to keep the conversation light and soothing, at least until she’s done with her period.

    Give her food

Losing blood and feeling bloated can be pretty exhausting for a girl on her period. It can drain so much of a woman’s energy that she’d be too tired to prepare a meal.

In these cases, one of the best gifts you can give her is her favourite food. Sometimes, women on their period can act like pregnant women in that they may start to have unusual cravings.

In cases like these, it’s ideal to ask her what she would like before heading out to get it for her.

    Get naughty

Some experts say that having sex or just engaging in foreplay can help soothe the cramps a girl experiences along with her periods.

Albeit, it’s mostly a matter of preference if you want to engage in some horizontal tango while it’s all ‘bloody’ around. If you’re convinced you can go through with it, why not? Go for it.

Just remember that she may feel extremely unsexy during this time of the month although, for some other women, this is when they feel the horniest. So, to avoid a tedious clean up after the cat, it’s best it’s done in the shower.

    Treat her like a queen

You should have a lot more empathy for your beau when she’s on her period just in case you’re the kind of lover who has little or none.

So, during these few days, you need to suck it up and be nice as pie. Treat her, show her that you care, and basically do all the things you should be doing a lot more of anyway!

Be as patient as you can possibly be

While you’re the recipient of her hormonal rage, keep in mind that the state she’s in won’t last for more than a couple of days. After that, she’ll be back to her usual self.

Also, during these times, it may be a good idea to be extra nice, just for added measure.

Ensure to keep words like, “I’m sorry,” “You’re right,” and “It’s fine with me” in your vocabulary for use in conversations that are teetering precariously on the argument vs. conversation line.

Compliment, tell her how much you love and care for her

Beyond dishing out all the nice treatment you have up your sleeves, make sure you compliment her looks, even if you have to lie sometimes…lo!

Also, butter her up with sweet nothings by telling her how much you love, adore, cherish and care for her.

Fact-Check: There are indications oceans are overheating

    Claim

A Twitter User @TonyClimate on the 15th of January 2023 wrote that there is no indication the oceans are overheating

His tweet was a comment to Micheal Holmes’ tweet on what Dr John Abraham from the University of St. Thomas said about the effects of the climate crisis on land and oceans. Abraham stated in a quote that “Global warming really is ocean warming.

@TonyClimate in his reply to the tweet wrote: “There is no indication the oceans are overheating. Why do climate academics keep spreading this sort of misinformation?” His reply had 96 retweets, 6 quote tweets and 347 likes.

    What is Ocean Heating?

According to Energy Education, Ocean heat is the energy associated with the change in the average ocean surface and bulk temperatures as a result of both natural and human activities. Ocean warming results from high atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gases, which are known to be caused by human emissions.

As the vast majority of extra heat from increasing greenhouse gases is being absorbed by the oceans, it leads to “ocean warming”, which makes ocean heat content and sea level rise vital indicators of climate change.

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) explains that the majority of the excess heat from greenhouse gas emissions is absorbed by the ocean, which causes ocean temperatures to rise. Rising ocean temperatures also have an impact on marine species and ecosystems, leading to coral bleaching and the disappearance of breeding grounds for marine mammals and fish.

Read Also: Fact Check: Climate Change occurs from CO2 Emissions

The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) states that the ocean is the largest solar energy collector on Earth as it has the ability to store and release heat over long periods of time. It further states that the main source of ocean heat is sunlight, and when clouds, water vapour, and greenhouse gases emit the heat they have absorbed, some of the heat energy enters the ocean.

    Is the Ocean Overheating?

A report on InsideClimatenews.org on the 11th of January 2023 states that findings by some scientists in their annual measurements of ocean heat revealed that ocean heat content reached a new record high for the fourth year in a row.

The findings published in the journal ‘Advances in Atmospheric Science’ show that just in the past year, the planet’s seas absorbed about 10 Zetta joules of heat which is equivalent to 100 times the world’s total annual electricity production.

According to NOAA, ocean heat gain had increased over the years. In data seen from 1993 to 2021, it showed that heat-gain rates are approximately 0.64 to 0.80 Watts per square meter. The data further showed that heat content in the global ocean has been consistently above-average since the mid-1990s.

    Rating

False – There are several indications resulting from research and analysis carried out by Scientists which shows that oceans are overheating as Ocean heat has been on the rise since about 1960.This fact-check was produced by Justina Asishana, a Journalist with The Nation Newspaper with support from Code for Africa’s PesaCheck and African Fact-Checking Alliance network.

  • Things to know about 16 Neglected Tropical Diseases

Things to know about 16 Neglected Tropical Diseases

    • Samuel Oamen and Agency Reports

January 30 is World Neglected Tropical Diseases day NTDs.

The day is dedicated to creating awareness about the devastating impact of NTDs

NTDs are found in several countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. NTDs are especially common in tropical areas where people do not have access to clean water or safe ways to dispose of human waste.

Here are things to know about 15 neglected tropical diseases:

    1: Buruli Ulcer

Buruli ulcer is a disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium ulcerans. It mainly affects the skin but can also affect the bone. Cases are generally seen in the tropics, primarily in West Africa and Australia.

Infection often leads to ulcers on the arms or legs, which can also destroy skin or soft tissue. When not properly treated, the disease can cause irreversible deformity or long-term functional disability.

    2. Chagas Disease

Chagas disease is named after the Brazilian physician Carlos Chagas, who discovered the disease in 1909. It is caused by the parasite Trypanosoma cruzi, which is transmitted to animals and people by insect vectors and is found only in the Americas (mainly, in rural areas of Latin America where poverty is widespread). Chagas disease (T. cruzi infection) is also referred to as American trypanosomiasis.

    3. Cysticercosis

Cysticercosis is a parasitic tissue infection caused by larval cysts of the tapeworm Taenia solium. These larval cysts infect brain, muscle, or other tissue, and are a major cause of adult-onset seizures in most low-income countries. A person gets cysticercosis by swallowing eggs found in the feces of a person who has an intestinal tapeworm.  People living in the same household with someone who has a tapeworm have a much higher risk of getting cysticercosis than people who don’t. People do not get cysticercosis by eating undercooked pork.  Eating undercooked pork can result in intestinal tapeworms if the pork contains larval cysts.  Pigs become infected by eating tapeworm eggs in the feces of a human infected with a tapeworm.

    4. Dengue Fever

Dengue viruses are spread to people through the bite of an infected Aedes species (Ae. aegypti or Ae. albopictus) mosquito. Almost half of the world’s population, about 4 billion people, live in areas with a risk of dengue. Dengue is often a leading cause of illness in areas with risk.

Dengue outbreaks are occurring in many countries of the world. Protect yourself from mosquito bites.

    5. Dracunculiasis (Guinea Worm Disease)

Guinea worm disease, a neglected tropical disease (NTD), is caused by the parasite Dracunculus medinensis. The disease affects poor communities in remote parts of Africa that do not have safe water to drink. There is neither a drug treatment for Guinea worm disease nor a vaccine to prevent it. Great progress has been made towards elimination of Guinea worm disease; the number of human cases annually has fallen from 3.5 million in the mid-1980s to 15 in 2021.

    6. Echinococcosis

Echinococcosis is a parasitic disease caused by infection with tiny tapeworms of the genus Echinocococcus. Echinococcosis is classified as either cystic echinococcosis or alveolar echinococcosis.

Cystic echinocccosis (CE), also known as hydatid disease, is caused by infection with the larval stage of Echinococcus granulosus, a ~2–7 millimeter long tapeworm found in dogs (definitive host) and sheep, cattle, goats, and pigs (intermediate hosts). Although most infections in humans are asymptomatic, CE causes harmful, slowly enlarging cysts in the liver, lungs, and other organs that often grow unnoticed and neglected for years.

    7. Fascioliasis

Fascioliasis is a parasitic infection typically caused by Fasciola hepatica, which is also known as “the common liver fluke” or “the sheep liver fluke.” A related parasite, Fasciola gigantica, also can infect people. Fascioliasis is found in all continents except Antarctica, in over 70 countries,  especially where there are sheep or cattle. People usually become infected by eating raw watercress or other water plants contaminated with immature parasite larvae. The young worms move through the intestinal wall, the abdominal cavity, and the liver tissue, into the bile ducts, where they develop into mature adult flukes that produce eggs. The pathology typically is most pronounced in the bile ducts and liver. Fasciola infection is both treatable and preventable.

    8. Human African Trypanosomiasis (African Sleeping Sickness)

African Trypanosomiasis, also known as “sleeping sickness”, is caused by microscopic parasites of the species Trypanosoma brucei. It is transmitted by the tsetse fly (Glossina species), which is found only in sub-Saharan Africa. Two morphologically indistinguishable subspecies of the parasite cause distinct disease patterns in humans: T. b. gambiense causes a slowly progressing African trypanosomiasis in western and central Africa and T. b. rhodesiense causes a more acute African trypanosomiasis in eastern and southern Africa. Control efforts have reduced the number of annual cases and for the first time in 50 years, the number of reported cases fell under 10,000 in 2009. In 2017–2018, fewer than 2000 cases were reported to WHO.

    9. Leishmaniasis

Leishmaniasis is a parasitic disease that is found in parts of the tropics, subtropics, and southern Europe. It is classified as a neglected tropical disease (NTD). Leishmaniasis is caused by infection with Leishmania parasites, which are spread by the bite of phlebotomine sand flies. There are several different forms of leishmaniasis in people. The most common forms are cutaneous leishmaniasis, which causes skin sores, and visceral leishmaniasis, which affects several internal organs (usually spleen, liver, and bone marrow).

    10. Leprosy (Hansen’s Disease)

Hansen’s disease (also known as leprosy) is an infection caused by slow-growing bacteria called Mycobacterium leprae. It can affect the nerves, skin, eyes, and lining of the nose (nasal mucosa). With early diagnosis and treatment, the disease can be cured. People with Hansen’s disease can continue to work and lead an active life during and after treatment

Leprosy was once feared as a highly contagious and devastating disease, but now we know it doesn’t spread easily and treatment is very effective. However, if left untreated, the nerve damage can result in crippling of hands and feet, paralysis, and blindness.

    11. Lymphatic Filariasis

Lymphatic filariasis, considered globally as a neglected tropical disease (NTD), is a parasitic disease caused by microscopic, thread-like worms. Adult worms only live in the human lymph system. The lymph system maintains the body’s fluid balance and fights infections. Lymphatic filariasis is spread from person to person by mosquitoes.

People with the disease can suffer from lymphedema and elephantiasis and in men, swelling of the scrotum, called hydrocele. Lymphatic filariasis is a leading cause of permanent disability worldwide. Communities frequently shun and reject women and men disfigured by the disease. Affected people frequently are unable to work because of their disability, and this harms their families and their communities.

    12. Mycetoma

Mycetoma is a disease caused by certain types of bacteria and fungi found in soil and water. These bacteria and fungi may enter the body through a break in the skin, often on a person’s foot. The resulting infection causes firm, usually painless but debilitating masses under the skin that can eventually affect the underlying bone. Mycetoma can be caused by bacteria (actinomycetoma) or fungi (eumycetoma). The number of people with mycetoma worldwide is not known, but there were 17,607 cases reported in a 2017 review of scientific articles between 1950 and 2017. The actual number of cases is likely substantially higher.

Mycetoma affects people of all ages and is more common in men. This disease primarily affects poorer people in rural regions of Africa, Latin America, and Asia that are located near the equator and have dry climates. People affected by mycetoma often live in remote areas where they have limited access to healthcare and medications. Mycetoma can cause severe physical disabilities that can force people to stop working and cause stigma.

    13. Onchocerciasis

Onchocerciasis, or river blindness, is a neglected tropical disease (NTD) caused by the parasitic worm Onchocerca volvulus. It is transmitted through repeated bites by blackflies of the genus Simulium. The disease is called river blindness because the blackfly that transmits the infection lives and breeds near fast-flowing streams and rivers, mostly near remote rural villages. The infection can result in visual impairment and sometimes blindness. Additionally, onchocerciasis can cause skin disease, including intense itching, rashes, or nodules under the skin. Worldwide onchocerciasis is second only to trachoma as an infectious cause of blindness.

    14. Rabies

Approximately 5,000 animal rabies cases are reported annually to CDC, and more than 90% of those cases occur in wildlife. This marks a dramatic change in the types of animals reported as rabid since 1960, when the majority of cases were in domestic animal species, primarily dogs. The principal rabies reservoir hosts in the United States today include bats, raccoons, skunks, and foxes.

    15. Schistosomiasis

Schistosomiasis, also known as bilharzia, is a disease caused by parasitic worms. Although the worms that cause schistosomiasis are not found in the United States,  people are infected worldwide. In terms of impact this disease is second only to malaria as the most devastating parasitic disease.  Schistosomiasis is considered one of the neglected tropical diseases (NTDs).The parasites that cause schistosomiasis live in certain types of freshwater snails. The infectious form of the parasite, known as cercariae, emerge from the snail into the water. You can become infected when your skin comes in contact with contaminated freshwater. Most human infections are caused by Schistosoma mansoni, S. haematobium, or S. japonicum.

Soil-transmitted Helminths (STH) (Ascaris, Hookworm, and Whipworm)

Soil-transmitted helminths refer to the intestinal worms infecting humans that are transmitted through contaminated soil (“helminth” means parasitic worm): Ascaris lumbricoides (sometimes called just “Ascaris“), whipworm (Trichuris trichiura), and hookworm (Ancylostoma duodenale and Necator americanus). A large part of the world’s population is infected with one or more of these soil-transmitted helminths:

    16. Trachoma

Trachoma causes more vision loss and blindness than any other infection in the world.1 This disease is caused by Chlamydia trachomatis bacteria. Other variants or strains of these bacteria can cause a sexually transmitted infection (chlamydia) and disease in lymph nodes.

This is a photomicrograph of a conjunctival smear that revealed the presence of what are known as, intracytoplasmic inclusions

Trachoma is easily spread through direct personal contact such as from fingers, through shared towels and clothes, and through flies that have been in contact with the eyes or nose of an infected person. When left untreated, repeated Chlamydia trachomatis infections in the eye can cause severe scarring on the inside of the eyelid. This can cause the eyelashes to scratch the cornea (trichiasis). In addition to causing pain, trichiasis permanently damages the cornea and can lead to irreversible blindness.

retweets, 2 quote tweets and 402 likes.

    Verification

    What is CO2?

CO2 is the chemical formula for carbon dioxide which is a colourless and
odourless gas that is one part carbon and two parts oxygen. It is a natural
component of the air and makes up part of the carbon cycle.

CO2 is produced both naturally when “organisms respire or decompose
(decay), carbonate rocks are weathered, forest fires occur, and volcanoes
erupt”, and through “human activities, such as burning gasoline, coal, oil,
and wood”. In the environment, people exhale CO2 which contributes to
    CO2 levels in the air.

    Source: US Environmental Protection Agency

Eurostat defines Carbon dioxide emissions or CO 2 emissions as “emissions
    stemming from the burning of fossil fuels and the manufacture of cement;
they include carbon dioxide produced during consumption of solid, liquid,
and gas fuels as well as gas flaring”.

What are the Causes of Climate Change?

According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA),
Human activities have released large amounts of carbon dioxide and other
greenhouse gases into the atmosphere and this has changed the earth’s

climate. It further states that natural processes, such as changes in the
sun’s energy and volcanic eruptions, also affect the earth’s climate.

Climate change is caused mainly by greenhouse gases which come from a
variety of human activities, including burning fossil fuels for heat and
energy, clearing forests, fertilizing crops, storing waste in landfills, raising
livestock, and producing some kinds of industrial products. Climate change
also occurs from a buildup of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and the
warming of the planet due to the greenhouse effect.

Carbon dioxide is the primary greenhouse gas contributing to recent
    climate change.

Does Climate Change Occur from Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Emissions?
According to the US Environmental Protection Agency, greenhouse gases
produced by human activities have caused an overall warming influence on
the Earth’s climate and the largest contributor to warming has been carbon
dioxide (CO2,) which is the primary greenhouse gas emitted by human
    activities.

    Rating

False – It is not true that there is no climate change occurring from CO2
emissions. This is because Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions are the
primary driver of global climate change.

Nine negative effects of irregular sex

People refer to not having s3x for a long time as celibacy or abstinence. When someone does not have sex for months or years, they are unlikely to notice any negative physical side effects on their health.

However, research shows that having regular sex can result in certain health benefits, including improved immune system function, reduced blood pressure, lower stress levels, and less risk of cardiovascular events.

    Below are nine ways irregular intercourse could adversely affect your body;

    Higher risk of heart disease

A scientific study has found having sex just twice a week halves a man’s chances of getting clogged arteries compared to those who indulge less than once a month.

It found having sex slashed men’s levels of homocysteine, a harmful chemical that can trigger cardiac problems.

It is believed men getting regular sex often have better circulation and healthier blood vessels

But the benefits are less pronounced for women because their arousal is less dependent on healthy blood flow – a key factor in keeping homocysteine under control.

    More stress/anxiety

You might be feeling sexually frustrated for a good reason, as research shows a session beneath the sheets is good for relieving stress.

Sex increases the levels of endorphins and the hormone oxytocin produced by the brain. Studies show oxytocin can offset the effects of the stress-causing hormone cortisol.

Not having sex when in a relationship can make a person feel insecure or anxious. Talking about these emotions can help remove any sense of discomfort.

It’s true that less sex may reduce your exposure to germs, but unfortunately, you’ll also skip the immune-boosting benefits of a weekly roll in the hay.

In one 2004 study, researchers found that people who had sex once or twice a week enjoyed a 30 percent boost in immunoglobulin A (IgA), compared with those who had sex seldom or never.

IgA is an infection-fighting protein and one of the body’s first lines of defense against viruses, such as those associated with the common cold.

The risk of prostate cancer rises

Guys who stop having sex may miss out on the prostate-protecting perks of frequent trysts.

A 2016 study found that men who ejaculated at least 21 times per month significantly reduced their prostate cancer risk.

One reason? Frequent ejaculations may remove potentially harmful substances from the prostate, which may prevent the formation of cancerous tumors.

The risk of erectile dysfunction rises

Men who have sex infrequently are twice as likely to experience erectile dysfunction as men who do it frequently, according to a study.

Since the penis is a muscle, frequent sex may help preserve potency in a similar way that physical exercise helps maintain strength.

    Libido level drops

One of the most effective ways to boost a low libido (sex drive) is to genuinely try and have more coitus.

Experiencing more physical and emotional intimacy can help you feel more connected to your partner, so when you stop having sex, your desire to start back up again may stall.

Irregular sex decreases the pelvic blood flow and natural vaginal moisture

    You may become less intelligent

Sex does affect our cognition. People who engaged in more regular sexual activity scored higher on tests that measured their verbal and spatial skills, according to a study.

In addition, people who reported having sex scored higher on cognitive tests than those who had not had sex recently.

The researchers think the brain boost may have to do with the hormones released during sex.

    Vaginal walls could thin out

Once you hit menopause, your body won’t pump out as much estrogen.

This can lead to vaginal atrophy, a condition in which your vaginal walls become thin, dry, and more prone to tearing.

Not having sex might exacerbate the problem, since the extra lubrication and blood flow you experience during sex can help keep the tissues in your vagina healthy.

    You’ll be less stimulated

Alongside losing lubrication, women’s bodies can also react adversely to a lack of action.

No sex for a long time can lead to problems getting aroused or reaching an orgasm.

    • Samuel Oamen with agency reports

Most of the time, the causes of a brain tumors are unknown but the below factors may raise a person’s risk of developing a brain tumour:

Home and work exposures: Exposure to solvents, pesticides, oil products, rubber, or vinyl chloride may increase the risk of developing a brain tumour. However, there is not yet scientific evidence that supports this possible link.

Family history: About 5% of brain tumours may be linked to hereditary genetic factors or conditions, including Li-Fraumeni syndrome, neurofibromatosis, nevoid basal cell carcinoma syndrome, tuberous sclerosis, Turcot syndrome, and von Hippel-Lindau disease. Scientists have also found “clusters” of brain tumours within some families without a link to these known hereditary conditions. Studies are underway to try to find a cause for these clusters.

Exposure to infections, viruses, and allergens: Infection with the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) increases the risk of CNS lymphoma. EBV is more commonly known as the virus that causes mononucleosis or “mono.” In other research, high levels of a common virus called cytomegalovirus (CMV) have been found in brain tumour tissue. The meaning of this finding is being researched. Several types of other viruses have been shown to cause brain tumours in research on animals. More data are needed to find out if exposure to infections, other viruses, or allergens increase the risk of a brain tumour in people. Of note, studies have shown that patients with a history of allergies or skin conditions have a lower risk of glioma.

Electromagnetic fields: Most studies evaluating the role of electromagnetic fields, such as energy from power lines or from cell phone use, show no link to an increased risk of developing a brain tumour in adults. Because of conflicting information regarding risk in children, the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends limiting cell phone use and promotes the use of a hands-free headset for both adults and children.

Ionizing radiation: Previous treatment to the brain or head with ionizing radiation, including x-rays, has been shown to be a risk factor for a brain tumour.

Head injury and seizures: Serious head trauma has long been studied for its relationship to brain tumours. Some studies have shown a link between head trauma and meningioma but not between head trauma and glioma. A history of seizures has also been linked with brain tumours, but because a brain tumour can cause seizures, it is not known if seizures increase the risk of brain tumours, if seizures occur because of the tumour, or if anti-seizure medication increases the risk.

N-nitroso compounds: Some studies of diet and vitamin supplementation seem to indicate that dietary N-nitroso compounds may raise the risk of both childhood and adult brain tumours. Dietary N-nitroso compounds are formed in the body from nitrites or nitrates found in some cured meats, cigarette smoke, and cosmetics. However, additional research is necessary before a definitive link can be established.
