The summit, themed “Amplifying the Renewed Hope Through Grassroots Voices: Empowering Grassroots Media for National Development,” aims to strengthen community-level communication and deepen public engagement with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

APC south-south leaders hail Wike’s courage, drive at 58 birthday

The leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the south-south geopolitical zone has described the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, as a courageous leader, whose uncommon drive for development continue to inspire hope and progress across the region and the nation at large.

This was contained in a goodwill message jointly signed by the APC National Vice Chairman (South- South) Chief Hon. Victor Giadom and the National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, to mark the 58th birthday ceremony of the former Rivers State governor.

Felicitating with Wike, the duo congratulated him, said the FCT Minister is God’s special gift to the good people of the South-South region.

The statement reads, “We join family, friends, associates and well-wishers around the world to celebrate the Hon. Minister and former Governor of Rivers State for his audacious life of service to the nation.

“Chief Nyesom Wike is God’s special gift to the good people of the South-South region whose courageous leadership and uncommon drive for development continue to inspire hope and progress across the region and the nation at large.,”

Eulogising the Minister further, the two APC leaders said, “Fondly hailed as “Mr. Project,” Chief Wike has distinguished himself by his vast accomplishments. His tenure as Governor of Rivers State was marked by transformative investments in infrastructure, education, healthcare, housing, and urban renewal, significantly improving service delivery and governance outcomes for the people.

“As Minister of the FCT, he has sustained this record of high achieving performance, driving massive and unprecedented infrastructural development, urban renewal and far-reaching administrative reforms. These include extensive road construction, rail rehabilitation, enhanced land administration, and improved city management in the FCT. Collectively, these interventions have restored the FCT as a super functional modern capital city.”

The duo then commended the Minister’s solid contributions to the successful implementation of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, advancing national development and delivering tangible benefits to citizens.

“On this special day, we wish His Excellency Nyesom Wike continued good health, strength, wisdom, and many more years of purposeful service to our dear country,” the statement concluded

  • Aiyedatiwa’s aide, APC group leader clash over control of Tinubu’s 2027 campaign in Ondo

Aiyedatiwa’s aide, APC group leader clash over control of Tinubu’s 2027 campaign in Ondo

A fresh disagreement has emerged within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, as a senior aide to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Prof. Simidele Odimayo, clashed with a prominent party chieftain Otunba Agboola Kelly over control of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 reelection campaign in the state.

The dispute highlighted growing internal tensions within the party, as key blocs and support groups vie for influence ahead of the next general election.

The clash followed a stakeholders’ meeting in Ore, headquarters of Odigbo Local Government Area, where Prof. Odimayo and other APC leaders insisted that Governor Aiyedatiwa, as the constitutionally recognised state leader, should automatically head Tinubu’s reelection campaign in Ondo once the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) lifts the ban on campaign activities.

“We want President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to make it a matter of compulsion that Governor Aiyedatiwa leads his campaign in Ondo State in the 2027 general elections. We cannot afford to have two leaders in our state, as the governor is the leader of the party. This is what we want in our state during the 2027 general elections,” Odimayo stated, citing resolutions from the meeting.

However, on Saturday, Otunba Kelly, state coordinator of the APC Elders Movement for Tinubu, responded by warning party members against making “provocative statements” that could cause internal friction.

Kelly described Prof. Odimayo as “overzealous,” accusing him of political overreach and attempting to create a crisis to serve personal interests.

“What Simidele Odimayo and his co-travellers are doing is clear – they want to curry favour in Abuja by manufacturing a crisis that does not exist. Their personal ambitions must not be allowed to overheat the polity or sow seeds of disaffection.”

Kelly stressed that Tinubu’s reelection effort is a national project, and independent support groups do not require approval from any individual before mobilising for the President.

He likened the situation to the 2024 Ondo governorship race, where dozens of groups campaigned for Aiyedatiwa without undermining him:

“Just as we had LACO, Friends of Lucky, Aiyedatiwa Vanguard, Youths for Lucky, Women for Aiyedatiwa, and many others during the 2024 election, the same will happen in 2027. These groups will only complement the official campaign structure coordinated by the governor.”

He warned Odimayo and his allies to desist from comments that might threaten the fragile peace within the party.

“The peace and unity currently enjoyed in Ondo APC were hard-won. We will not watch selfish individuals import crisis where none exists,” Kelly added.

He further alleged that the attempt to insist on a “sole leadership structure” for Governor Aiyedatiwa is a reaction to the growing influence of independent support groups allegedly backed by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo (BTO).

“The truth is that the groups sponsored by the Honourable Minister are doing very well across the state. They are projecting Mr. President more aggressively, more visibly, and more effectively than anyone else. The move by Odimayo is simply a response to Tunji-Ojo’s rising influence.”

In a swift reaction, Prof. Odimayo faulted Kelly’s interpretation of the stakeholders meeting, insisting his comments were taken out of context.

According to him, it would be illogical to ask President Tinubu to appoint Aiyedatiwa as campaign leader when the governor is already the automatic leader of the party in the state:

“There is a misrepresentation. I cannot be saying Tinubu should make Aiyedatiwa the campaign leader. He is already the leader of the party in the state by virtue of being governor – just as the President (Tinubu), the party leader at the federal level,” he said.

Odimayo, however, argued that the governor’s popularity and performance naturally make him the rallying point for Tinubu’s 2027 bid.

He maintained that independent support groups exist because of the governor’s performance and do not pose a threat.

“Aiyedatiwa won in all 18 local governments – an unprecedented feat in Ondo State. People love him. Carrying him along will give better votes for President Tinubu in 2027.”

“Every other person campaigning is doing so because Aiyedatiwa is performing. They feel their efforts can help the governor, too,” the governor’s aide added.

  • 2027: I remain loyal to Tinubu, Gov. Namadi – Sen Hussaini

2027: I remain loyal to Tinubu, Gov. Namadi – Sen Hussaini

The Senator representing Jigawa North-West Senatorial District, Babangida Hussaini, has reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi.

He, however, dismissed claims that he is preparing to contest the Jigawa governorship election in 2027.

In a personally signed statement made available to journalists in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, the senator described the reports as false, misleading and deliberately engineered to create tension and disunity within the APC.

Senator Hussaini stressed that his political priority remains supporting the Tinubu-led federal administration and the Namadi government to ensure the delivery of good governance and sustainable development to the people of Jigawa State.

According to him, certain individuals had recently appeared on radio programmes making unfounded allegations that he was positioning himself for the governorship race.

“Recently, certain individuals have appeared on radio programmes making unfounded allegations that I am preparing to contest for the governorship of Jigawa State,” the senator said.

He described the claims as entirely untrue and calculated to sow unnecessary discord within the party.

“These claims are entirely false and clearly intended to create unnecessary division and mischief within our great party,” the statement added.

The lawmaker also dismissed suggestions of any rift between himself and Governor Namadi, insisting that both leaders remain united and committed to a shared vision for the progress and stability of Jigawa State.

“His Excellency, Governor Malam Umar Namadi, and I remain members of one united party, working collaboratively and respectfully towards the progress and stability of Jigawa State,” Hussaini stated.

The senator further alleged that an individual identified as Magaji Dogo recently appeared on a private radio station to repeat the false narrative, allegedly attempting to mislead the public by wearing a campaign T-shirt bearing the images of both the senator and the governor.

“He went as far as wearing a T-shirt with my image alongside that of the governor, complemented with a cap, to falsely suggest that such statements originated from me,” Hussaini said.

Chairman of the Senate Committee on the North-West Development Commission (NWDC), the lawmaker described the action as deceptive and completely untrue, while questioning the motive behind the propaganda.

“It is also important to ask: in his previous radio appearances, whose T-shirt was he wearing?” he queried.

Reiterating his political stance, Senator Hussaini said he remains firmly loyal to the leadership of President Tinubu and Governor Namadi, adding that his commitment to the development of Jigawa State remains consistent and unwavering.

“I wish to reiterate, without ambiguity, that I remain firmly loyal to the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and to the government of our governor, Malam Umar Namadi,” he declared.

He called on the leadership of the APC to take decisive steps to address and curtail the spread of falsehoods capable of undermining party unity and discipline.

According to him, safeguarding the cohesion of the party is critical to maintaining focus on governance and development.

“It is important to safeguard the unity, integrity and cohesion of the APC, ensuring that misinformation and mischief do not distract us from our collective responsibility to build a stronger Jigawa State and Nigeria as a whole,” the statement concluded.
