JUST IN: Omisore, Alabi, five others disqualified by Osun APC guber screening committee

    • …clears ex-NIWA boss Oyebamiji, one other

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Screening Committee for the Osun State governorship primary election has disqualified seven aspirants, including former deputy governor and APC National Secretary Senator Iyiola Omisore, immediate past Deputy Governor Benedict Olugboyega Alabi, Dotun Babayemi, Akin Ogunbiyi, Senator Babajide Omoworare, Kunle Adegoke (SAN), and Babatunde Haketer Oralusi.

The decision was announced following the submission of a report by the seven-member screening committee, led by Barrister Obinna Uzor, to the party’s Organization Department on Friday.

The committee cleared Hon. Mulikat Adeola Jimoh and Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji for the December 13 primary election, noting that they fulfilled all regulatory requirements outlined in the party guidelines, Constitution, and the Electoral Act.

The disqualified aspirants have been referred to the APC National Working Committee (NWC) for final clearance before they can participate in the shadow election.

According to the six-page report signed by all committee members, the decision followed a petition from the Osun APC Renewal Group, which flagged two aspirants for failing to meet mandatory nominator requirements under the APC Constitution and party guidelines for the governorship primary.

“Upon careful review, the Committee found the issues raised in the petition to be weighty, substantial, and germane to the integrity of the screening process,” the report stated. “In the interest of fairness, transparency, and uniform application of the Party’s rules, the Committee extended the same scrutiny to all nine aspirants, ensuring every sponsor (nominator) was assessed based on compliance with Articles 9.3(i) and 31.2(ii) of the APC Constitution and paragraph 6(c) of the Guidelines. This approach guaranteed a level playing field and upheld the principles of internal party democracy.”

The committee concluded that Mulikat Abiola Jimoh and Munirudeen Bola Oyebanji met all constitutional and guideline requirements, including nomination by the requisite number of fully registered and financially up-to-date party members from each Local Government Area.

However, the seven disqualified aspirants failed to secure sponsorship from at least five fully registered and financially up-to-date members from each Local Government Area, as required under Articles 9.3(i) and 31.2(ii) of the APC Constitution and Paragraph 6(c) of the APC Guidelines.

The Screening Appeal Committee, headed by Senator Tola Odebiyi, is scheduled to convene on Saturday in Abuja to hear petitions and appeals from the disqualified aspirants and other aggrieved stakeholders.

Fed govt seeks deeper collaboration with retired perm secs to strengthen governance

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to harnessing the wealth of experience within the Council of Retired Federal Permanent Secretaries (CORFEPS) to strengthen governance and preserve institutional memory for national development.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, stated this while delivering the keynote address at the 2025 Annual Dinner and Awards Night of the council, held at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja.

Describing CORFEPS as “an invaluable national asset,” Akume said the collective expertise of retired permanent secretaries remains crucial to improving policy formulation, deepening continuity in governance, and driving public sector reforms.

He said the theme of this year’s event, “Harnessing the Council of Retired Federal Permanent Secretaries as a Wealth of Institutional Memory for Nation Building”, was timely, noting that Nigeria continues to grapple with the effects of policy inconsistency and gaps in implementation.

According to a statement issued by the Director of Information and Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Segun Imohiosen Akume said, “nothing can replace experience. Members of CORFEPS are living repositories of institutional memory. The nation stands to benefit immensely from your insights, and the present administration remains open and committed to leveraging your expertise”.

Akume highlighted recent efforts by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to integrate the wisdom of elder statesmen into governance, including appointing some CORFEPS members to strategic national positions across agencies and commissions.

He assured that his office would continue working with the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation to advance key proposals submitted by the council.

Earlier in his remarks, Chairman of CORFEPS, Yayale Ahmed, reiterated the council’s readiness to continue offering patriotic service to the nation.

He described CORFEPS as a sanctuary of wisdom and a custodian of Nigeria’s administrative heritage, stressing that retirement does not mark the end of service.

The event brought together former and serving public officers to honour distinguished retired permanent secretaries and reaffirm their role as partners in Nigeria’s national development efforts.

  • APC invites Rivers chair over alleged removal

APC invites Rivers chair over alleged removal

The National Legal Adviser  of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has invited embattled Cross River chairman of the party, Alphonsus Ogar Eba..

The State Executive Committee (SEC) of the party passed a vote of no confidence on the chairman, leading to his alleged removal.

The APC National Legal Adviser, Murtala Aliyu Kankia, in a letter dated December 4, 2025, invited Eba to appear before the national leadership on Monday, December 8, to respond to the vote of no confidence.

The NWC said the meeting would enable it to hear directly from the chairman and ensure that due process is followed.

The invite came amid growing factional tension after a majority of SEC members reportedly claimed that “The System” no longer wanted Eba and announced his removal, an action Eba dismissed as illegal and “a joke taken too far.”

The embattled chairman last month rejected similar calls for his resignation by the Forum of Chapter Chairmen and Secretaries, who accused him of high-handedness, diversion of party funds, and failure to remit stipends to ward and chapter officers.

Eba fired back, accusing the same officials of financial misconduct involving more than N60m.

He said the party had adopted a direct payment method to curb diversion of funds and ensure that stipends went into the accounts of the 5,778 ward and chapter officials statewide.

He added that some chapter chairmen allegedly receive millions monthly from political appointees and withhold funds released by the government for party administration at the local level.

According to him, no chapter chairman has the constitutional authority to demand the resignation of a state chairman, insisting that disciplinary powers over him lie with the South-South Zonal Executive Committee as provided by Article 21(3)(vi)(d) of the APC constitution.

The move by the NWC is seen as an attempt to halt the escalating crisis ahead of the 2027 general elections.

With the national leadership now stepping in, party stakeholders are hoping for a truce as efforts intensify to restore calm and reposition the Cross River APC.

  • Ogun Central stakeholders drum support for Adeola

Ogun Central stakeholders drum support for Adeola

A group in Ogun Central, MATA YAYI, has said that Senator Olamilekan Solomon Adeola has demonstrated over time that he meant well for Ogun State in general and its people, and appealed to President Bola Tinubu, Governor Dapo Abiodun, and other political leaders to support him to join the 2027 governorship race in the state.

The said Adeola’s track record of urban and rural development initiatives across Ogun three senatorial districts, despite being a Senator representing Ogun West, are attestation to greater things he would do to uplift the state if supported to serve the whole state.

Its convener, Chief Adeyinka Taiwo, disclosed that Yayi has good intentions for the people of Ogun, and vowed to mobilise grassroots support for him if All Progressives Congress(APC) gives him its governorship ticket, adding it would also boost the APC’s standing and chance in Ogun.

The appeal was made in Ifo Local Government, where community leaders, political leaders, and others called on Adeola to vie for the gubernatorial seat in 2027.

In a communique issued and signed by Hon. Chief Adeyinka Taiwo, the Sobaloju of Agbado Kingdom, Ogun State, and convened by the Mata Yayi Group, highlighted the need for Adeola to contest the Ogun State governorship in 2027.

Adeyinka posited that the justification for the endorsement is embedded in Yayi’s giant strides in achievements in infrastructure, politics of benefits, education empowerment programs, and others across the state.

He said: “The people of Ifo local government, the men, women, young people, traditional leaders, and stakeholders, do solemnly and publicly call on our dear Ogun State son, Sen. Adeola Olamilekan YAYI, to show interest in contesting the Ogun State Governorship in 2027.”

“Over the years, and through the statecraft of successive administrations in Ogun State, development and governance have been concentrated in the ethnic area of the particular governor. This governance behaviour has undermined the integral development of Ogun State as a state of interdependent groups with a shared vision. However, since his foray into Ogun State politics, Sen. Adeola Olamilekan YAYI has demonstrated competence, capacity, and passion for inclusive governance, which is visibly and evidently seen across the entire senatorial districts in Ogun State, even though he is currently serving as senator of Ogun West, one of the three senatorial districts in Ogun State.”

“Our public call is not a mere call of rhetoric but a call with determination to deliver this mandate, hoping that he heeds our call. We have well over 30,000 registered voters with an addition of more than 10,000 newly registered, prepared and ready to vote in the 2027 election. We have also set up a committee saddled with the commitment of identifying those who have never voted and converting them to willing voters,” he posited.

“We hereby, with all respect and honor, appeal to our dear president, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; the national leadership of our dear party; our indefatigable leader of APC in Ogun State; our governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun; our political patriarch, Aremo Olusegun Osoba; all former governors of Ogun State in our dear party; and the entire government and political personalities and structure in our dear party, APC, to graciously back our public call for Sen. Adeola Olamilekan Yayi as Ogun State Governor in 2027.”

In the same development, he also called on President Bola Tinubu to enhance security architecture in the country, to prevent saboteurs from dragging Nigerian democracy into the mud.

He posited that Tinubu’s efforts are yielding results in the economy of the country, which is not giving the saboteurs joy, yet they tend to destroy his reelection bid.

“We want to categorically appeal to our great leader, sage, and political father, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to consider a reelection bid in 2027. Since May 29, 2023, Nigeria has won a new and positive aspiration and a new agenda, and it is no doubt now set on a path of renewed prosperity.

“This has not come without its challenges, but our dear president, Bola Tinubu, working tirelessly to solve them, must be ready to sacrifice another four years for service to Nigeria,” the group stated in a communique to buttress their points in a comprehensive overview.

  • Oyo poll: Why Agbaje is the APC’s comeback strategy

Oyo poll: Why Agbaje is the APC’s comeback strategy

    By Olatunde Sanu

As Oyo State warms up for the 2027 election, the political atmosphere is thick with familiar currents — alignments, realignments, whispers of ambition, and renewed calculations among the key players. Within the All Progressives Congress (APC), the question that looms large is not whether the party will field a candidate, but whether it will field the right one.

After two election cycles marked by internal disunity and avoidable losses, the APC in Oyo must now make a defining choice — between repeating the politics of personality and embracing the politics of purpose. And in this delicate balance stands one man whose temperament, loyalty, and consistency make him not just a viable option, but the party’s most strategic path to redemption: Akeem Agbaje.

    A candidate prepared, not paraded

Unlike many perennial aspirants whose presence is sustained by noise or controversy, Akeem Agbaje’s political journey has been marked by quiet preparation and steady engagement. He has maintained cordial relations across party lines, nurtured genuine friendships within the APC family, and remained faithful to the party even when others abandoned it in moments of turbulence.

Agbaje’s political persona is refreshingly distinct — calm yet firm, accessible yet principled, grounded yet visionary. He represents the breed of politicians who build trust not through slogans but through quiet consistency and service. In a state fatigued by endless political feuds, this steadiness offers the APC an invaluable advantage.

The underdog factor: lessons from history

Political history, both within and beyond Nigeria, abounds with stories of “underdogs” who rose from perceived obscurity to change the course of their nations. They were not the loudest or the most financially endowed, but they possessed integrity, patience, and a deep connection to the people.

In Edo, Adams Oshiomhole turned his labour activism into political capital, dislodging entrenched interests through grassroots engagement. Olusegun Mimiko achieved a similar feat in Ondo, breaking the PDP’s stronghold as Nigeria’s first Labour Party governor — powered by trust and persistence rather than what we call ‘structure’ in Nigerian politics.

Internationally, Barack Obama’s improbable ascent to the American presidency in 2008 remains the ultimate underdog story — a triumph of discipline and message clarity over political establishment. Emmanuel Macron of France shattered decades of two-party dominance with a centrist movement built on renewal and trust. William Ruto of Kenya, mocked as the “hustler,” defied elite structures to capture the presidency in 2022. Justin Trudeau of Canada resurrected a fading party through authenticity and empathy.

The thread that binds them all is clear: when the political environment is clouded by cynicism, the people often turn to those who embody integrity, humility, and quiet strength.

In Oyo today, that figure is Akeem Agbaje.

Oyo’s political temperament and the need for balance

The people of Oyo are politically discerning. They reward intellect and sincerity, not theatrics. From the days of Chief Obafemi Awolowo to the legacies of Lam Adesina and Abiola Ajimobi, Oyo’s political culture has always gravitated toward leaders who are grounded, humane, and administratively prepared.

The PDP’s present dominance is not necessarily a reflection of ideological superiority but rather of the APC’s internal disharmony and failure to rally behind a unifying face. That unity will not emerge from the usual power blocs or flamboyant aspirants, but from a bridge-builder who commands respect without division.

Akeem Agbaje has maintained relationships across factions, avoided the bitterness that often defines party primaries, and cultivated goodwill among the grassroots. These qualities make him not just acceptable but broadly electable — the exact kind of figure capable of healing old wounds and rekindling confidence in the APC’s progressive ideals.

    Choosing credibility over controversy

If the APC is serious about reclaiming Agodi Government House in 2027, it must resist the temptation to reward noise over substance. The people of Oyo are weary of recycled controversies. They yearn for a new face of politics — one that represents credibility, composure, and competence.

Fielding a divisive or elitist candidate again would be an act of self-sabotage. But choosing Akeem Agbaje would symbolize renewal — a return to the politics of character over chaos.

Agbaje’s record of loyalty to the APC, his scandal-free image, and his deep connection to the ordinary people of Oyo position him as a rare candidate who can unify the party and appeal to the electorate beyond partisan boundaries.

    The calm before victory

Political victories are seldom the product of noise; they are earned through trust. In Akeem Agbaje, the APC has before it a man who embodies the discipline of preparation, the patience of loyalty, and the humanity of service. He represents the archetype of the disciplined underdog — the man who, though underestimated, becomes the people’s consensus.

If the APC truly desires to return to power in 2027, it must look beyond the loud and the lavish, and choose the calm, credible, and consistent.

For Oyo APC, Akeem Agbaje is not just a candidate — he is the comeback strategy.

‘Zone governorship seat to Kwara North in 2027’

Kwara North monarchs have urged political parties in the state to zone their governorship tickes to the senatorial district during the 2027 elections.

They insisted that it is the turn of the district to produce the next governor.

The monarchs under the aegis of Kwara North Council of Chiefs and Obas, said this at a meeting to deliberate on the prevailing security situation in Kwara North region.

The meeting took place at the palace of Etsu Patigi, who is the Vice Chair of the council, Alhaji Ibrahim Umar Bologi II.

The engagement’s theme was: “Kwara North Unity, Security and Way Forward – Project 2027.”

The communique at the end of the engagement signed by Etsu Bologi, Emir of Lafiagi, Muhammed Umar Kudu Kawu, Emir of Kaiama Alhaji Muazu Shehu Omar (Kiyaru iV), Etsu Tsaragi: HRH Alhaji Aliyu Abdullahi  Kpotwa, Emir of Okuta Alhaji Abubakar Aliyu Serobeteye, Emir of Ilesha Baruba Alhaji (Prof) Halidu Abubakar and Oba of Jebba Oba Abdulkadir Adebara.

They said: “that in the spirit of fairness, equity, and justice, it is the rightful turn of Kwara North to produce the next governor of Kwara State in 2027.”

They identified unity as the strongest tool for achieving this aspiration, urging stakeholders to set aside past differences and work together in the collective interest of the region.

The communique also “resolved that alliances must be built with Kwara Central and Kwara South, and that advocacy be extended beyond the state—particularly to Abuja, national party leadership, and other critical political actors.

“The priority at this stage is ensuring that political parties zone their governorship ticket to Kwara North, and stakeholders committed to supporting the processes and ultimately the Kwara North candidate who emerges.

“Deliberations and consultations are ongoing to ensure that Moro Local Government produces at least one National Assembly member in the 2027 elections.

“Community leaders and residents were reminded to prioritise voter registration and collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to strengthen the region’s electoral advantage.”

On insecurity, the communique “expressed sincere appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for their ongoing efforts and support in addressing national and sub-national security challenges, particularly those affecting Kwara North.”

The communique added: “The meeting called for sustained and concerted efforts from the Federal, State and Local Governments to ensure that terrorists, bandits and other criminal elements are flushed out of our forests.

“The meeting noted with deep concern the rising security challenges across Kwara North, including attacks leading to loss of lives, closure of markets and schools, and disruption of economic activities.

“It was resolved that security is a collective responsibility, and communities must provide only accurate and truthful information to security agencies.

“The act of harbouring criminals was strongly condemned. Communities were urged to expose informants and collaborators aiding bandit activities.

“The meeting recommended the establishment of a unified and well-coordinated security architecture for all five Local Government Areas of Kwara North, to be supervised by the respective LG Chairmen.

“Vigilantes and forest guards should be adequately empowered, trained, and equipped with the necessary logistics, considering their superior understanding of the local terrain.”

  • Tinubu’s security drive restores public confidence, says Gbenga Abiola

Tinubu’s security drive restores public confidence, says Gbenga Abiola

Gbenga Abiola, National Coordinator of the Tinubu Media Force (TMF), said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s approach to Nigeria’s security challenges has been “strategic, systematic, and sincerely people-centred,” restoring public confidence in the government’s ability to protect lives and property.

Abiola highlighted that the administration’s structured and transparent approach is addressing decades of insecurity, which has included terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, highway robberies, and other criminal activities.

He noted that previous governments made efforts to tackle these threats, but progress was often inconsistent.

“The sincerity of this administration cannot be overstated, and Nigerians are increasingly confident in the President’s ability to provide lasting solutions to security challenges,” Abiola said.

“Recent government actions include the appointment and restructuring of Service Chiefs to enhance military efficiency, and the activation of a national framework for recruiting and deploying Forest Guards to protect rural communities, secure criminal hideouts, and provide early-warning intelligence.

“In addition, President Tinubu has nominated a seasoned Minister of Defence, well-versed in Nigeria’s security architecture, as part of a broader strategy to professionalise security management and improve coordination across all agencies. Police officers previously assigned to VIP protection have been redeployed to frontline duties, boosting community safety and rapid response capabilities.”

He added, “The National Security Adviser has deepened collaboration with the United States on intelligence sharing, counterterrorism training, modern surveillance, and capacity building for security agencies, aiming to dismantle terrorist and bandit networks.

“The administration has also increased funding and logistics for nationwide military operations, enhanced aerial and ground deployments in high-risk areas, activated rapid-response units, restructured joint task forces, and engaged local authorities and community security networks to improve intelligence gathering.

“These measures have produced tangible results. Several kidnapped victims have been rescued in recent weeks, including schoolchildren in the North-West, commuters on major highways, and villagers held in forest enclaves.”

Abiola said, “The Tinubu administration’s systematic and sincere approach to insecurity is unprecedented. Nigerians are beginning to feel the impact of coordinated action, and confidence in the President’s leadership continues to grow.”

The Federal Government has urged citizens to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies, and support ongoing operations as the administration consolidates gains and works to restore full normalcy nationwide.

2027: Northern groups to Tinubu: Don’t replace Shettima with Dogara

Youth and socio-political groups from the North East and North West have appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to retain Vice President Kashim Shettima, cautioning that any move to elevate former Speaker Yakubu Dogara to a more prominent political role could unsettle party loyalists and create uncertainty ahead of the 2027 elections.

The appeal was made during separate media briefings held in Gombe and Kaduna.

In Gombe, the session was led by the President of the APC Youth Mandate Forum and North East Youth Forum, Honourable Umar Waziri Kumo.

In Kaduna, the coalition included the North West Sociopolitical Group, Northern Rights Concerns Protection, and the Arewa Coalition for Good Governance, led by Comrade Haruna Mai Kano.

The groups said Vice President Shettima enjoys broad support in the North East and warned that attempts to undermine his position could lead to discontent among party supporters in the region.

They also noted that Dogara’s political influence should be carefully evaluated, stressing that the President should ensure strategic considerations that will strengthen national unity and party cohesion.

The groups further encouraged all political leaders to avoid divisive statements and to continue fostering harmony within the party.

They highlighted the lasting respect many in the region have for the late President Muhammadu Buhari and urged political actors to uphold the values of unity and stability associated with his legacy.

Despite their concerns, the groups reaffirmed their support for President Tinubu and expressed confidence in his leadership.

They emphasised that maintaining stability within the administration would help consolidate the President’s efforts toward national development.

PDP’s late expulsions deepen crisis, jeopardise electoral future — Aborisade

A United Kingdom-based human rights lawyer and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Niyi Aborisade, has warned that the party’s delayed expulsion of key members has intensified its internal crisis and endangered its prospects in upcoming elections.

Aborisade said the PDP should have taken decisive action long before now, rather than waiting until the eve of an election.

In a statement, he noted that the delay has pushed the party into an avoidable state of uncertainty.

“PDP acted late to expel those who should have been expelled long ago. This should have been settled a long time ago and not on the eve of the election,” he said.

According to him, unresolved court cases continue to cast doubt on the party’s stability and cohesion ahead of the next polls.

“There are still court cases to which no one can predict the outcome. The party will definitely rise again after this shadow, but our fate is now uncertain in the next election unless we can resolve the matter amicably,” he added.

Aborisade also described the defection of Osun State governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, as a troubling sign of the dangers confronting the party.

“A sitting governor has left us. He sees the danger ahead and does the wise thing. How many are yet to leave? Some are just barely clinging to the fabric that holds the party together,” he said.

He noted that Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, now carries the responsibility of leading a swift healing process within the PDP, describing the task as “herculean.”

Aborisade urged Makinde to seize the moment by leveraging what he called the looming challenges within the All Progressives Congress (APC) to rebuild and strengthen the party.

“There is little time to rectify the situation, and we must act fast. Hope is fast fading, and act fast we must,” he warned.

He stressed that urgent reconciliation remains the only way to prevent further haemorrhage within the party.
