Alleged forgery rocks PDP over Ekiti Gov primary

Less than 24 hours after release of the result of Saturday’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary election in Ekiti State, the entire exercise has run into a major controversy with allegations of forgery of official signatures.

Although the embattled factional national chairman of the party and the National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba declined to respond to The Nation’s enquiry on Sunday, other party officials alleged that the document on which the result was stated bears clear and weighty elements of forgery.

National Secretary, Senator Samuelnyanwu and the National Organizing Secretary, Capt Umar Bature (rtd) stated that their signatures on the PDP’s official ‘Ekiti State Result Sheet’ for the Saturday governorship primary election were forged.

Both officials belong to the pro-Wike faction of PDP which claims to have suspended Damagum while Damagum’s faction backed by some PDP Governors also claimed to have suspended Anyanwu and Bature.

“It is just another forgery,” Senator Anyanwu asserted in a text message sent in response to our correspondent.

When asked to confirm whether his signature on the document was genuine or not, Umar Bature emphatically denied being a signatory to the document.

“We have not signed on any result sheet since a Supreme Court ruling; ask them well because I did not sign on any such document,” he asserted.

Chairman of the Ekiti PDP Governorship Primary Election Committee, Senator Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, who represents Gombe North announced that a medical expert, Dr. Wole Oluyede won with 279 votes to defeat Funso Ayeni who polled 239 votes and Funmilayo Ogun who scored 17 votes.

Altogether, 535 delegates drawn across the 177 wards in the State were reported to have participated in the election.

Supporters from both factions of the PDP are already attacking one another on social media with Damagum loyalists asserting that result sheets and party membership cards had been pre-printed in large numbers months before the party’s current crisis while loyalists of Wike/Anyanwu are emphasising that there is mischief if the ‘conjured signatures’ of party officials whom the Damagum camp claimed to have suspended are now being used in a desperate effort to add legitimacy to such process.

“In their statement titled “Forgery Is A Crime: Our Party Must Not Be Built On Falsehood And Deception’, supporters of Wike/Anyanwu alleged that such forgery is an extension of Damagum faction’s false claims that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has endorsed the Damagum faction’s purported suspension of PDP National Secretary, National Organising Secretary, National Legal Adviser, and Deputy National Legal Adviser

“No wonder some of their paid data urchins have been busy peddling unfounded propaganda that INEC had recognised or confirmed the so-called suspension of the four national officers of our great party; then suddenly, the appearance of this very document (dated 8/11/2025) surfaced, bearing the same names and signatures of those who were allegedly suspended.

“This development has left every loyal member of the party stunned and filled with genuine questions regarding the credibility, authenticity, and legality of the documents currently being circulated; this incident wholesomely validates the warning issued a fortnight ago by our National Secretary, who alerted the public that some cohorts had forged his signature and dispatched a document to INEC without his consent,” they alleged.

  • Soludo’s victory shows Nigeria not gravitating to one-party state – Okechukwu

Soludo’s victory shows Nigeria not gravitating to one-party state – Okechukwu

A foundation member of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), Osita Okechukwu has said the victory of Anambra Governor, Charles Soludo of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) at the weekend election was an indication that Nigeria was not gravitating towards one-party state.

He congratulated Soludo for his victory and commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Okechukwu said the outcome of the election faulted the speculation the ruling party and, by extension, President Tinubu would rig the Anambra State gubernatorial election.

With the recent mass defections from the opposition parties into the APC, some sections of the opposition accused the ruling party of putting Nigeria at the risk of becoming a one-party state, which portends serious danger for the country’s democracy.

But reacting to the outcome of Saturday’s Anambra governorship election in an interaction with journalists in Abuja on Sunday, Okechukwu said the victory of APGA has rubbished the lie peddled by some opposition elements and even APC members that Nigeria was sliding towards a one-party state under the APC central government.

The immediate past Director General of Voice of Nigeria (VON) attributed the defections to PDP’s unforced error in breaching the rotation/zoning convention and APC’s growing support to the outstanding and remarkable achievements of President Tinubu in less than three years in office.

Okechukwu recalled Tinubu is in a league with progressive patriots that one party is not suitable for democracy anywhere and that citizens have the right to choose between associations, which one to belong to.

Reminded that some people are already referring to Nigeria as a de-facto one-party state, Okechukwu said: “Those saying that Nigeria has become a de-facto one-party state are speaking out of sheer ignorance of the history of our alliances, latest was in 2004 when such outcry sounded loud. Did we then anticipate that a Buhari would emerge to stop President Obasanjo and his 3rd gambit? Or did we envisage Peter Obi’s Obedient Movement in 2023 presidential election? Albeit there’s no valid fear for One Party State, all we need is performance, which Soludo demonstrated.”

“If APC is aimed to confine Nigeria to a one-party state, it could have used awesome powers at its disposal to shove Professor CC Soludo aside. The cardinal question is why the ruling APC lost the gubernatorial election?

“Like President Tinubu often says, Nigeria is not a one-party state but ruled by one party making the difference. That is why all progressives are working with APC, including APGA, which won last Saturday’s Anambra Governorship election landslide.”

Speaking further, Okechukwu recalled before the APC came to power, politicians have been defecting from the opposition party to the ruling party.

“My brethren, please remember that when PDP was in power, some of their leaders boasted that they would be in power for 60 years. It took the resilience of President Tinubu and late former President Muhammadu Buhari to galvanise the opposition to chase them away after they almost ruined the country through maladministration and corruption.

“Now that APC under President Tinubu is trying to reclaim the country and the same people whose political parties are in disarray, want to deceive Nigerians that we in APC are pushing for one-party state. The victory of Soludo has rubbished their lie,” he stated.

Congratulating the Anambra Governor on his re-election, Okechukwu urged him to be magnanimous in victory and carry everybody in the state along, including his opponents in last Saturday’s governorship election.

He wished Soludo well and thanked President Tinubu for allowing the level playing field: which is the hallmark of liberal democracy .

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Saturday’s governorship election, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, has wept for the burning of a building belonging to an APC supporter in Anambra East local government area.

The young lady’s offence was standing solidly for the APC despite every enticements from different political parties.

Though he failed to mention her name, Ukachukwu said the election really showed the presence of APC in Anambra State despite all insinuations from the opposition that the party does not exist in the State

The APC candidate said the vehicles of many supporters of his party and their buildings were destroyed and burnt in the course of the electioneering campaigns, adding that the battle has not ended.

On the possibility of challenging the outcome of the election, Ukachukwu said, he was still collating information from Wards to local government areas on what happened.

” For now, we are still collating data and information on the election. Again, there is nothing I can do without briefing my Party APC, they are the people to decide on our next move.

” The young woman’s house was burnt and in the course of the campaigns, the vehicles and buildings of some of our supporters were destroyed and burnt but they JK kept pushing, I’m grateful”

Re-elected Anambra Governor Chukwuma Soludo and Speaker Somtochukwu Udeze are dancing after final announcement of results.

They were joined by National chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Sly Ezeokenwa, a lawyer.

Soludo scored 422,662 votes as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to defeat his closest rival Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 99,445 votes

The YPP candidate, Sir Paul Chukwuma came a distant third with 37,753 votes

The results were declared by the Returning Officer, and Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, Prof Edoba Omoregie

But the opposition political parties, especially, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Labour Party (LP), Young Progressives Party (YPP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) faulted the victory.

Soludo commended President Bola Tinubu for allowing the will of the people to prevail during the election.

He also hailed security agencies and INEC, dedicating the victory to the people of Anambra State.

However, he regretted that despite the heavy policing, some miscreants killed one of the APGA chieftains and a Councillor at Owerre-Ezukala,Orumba South local government area

Soludo said the victory was not easy, pointing out in 2021, it was 122,000 he scored but in 2025, it came to 422,662, adding out of the 326 wards in the State, only six were lost.

He extended a hand of fellowship to other candidates who contested against him in the Saturday’s election.

He hailed Tinubu as a democrat for allowing the will of the people to prevail.

The Governor spoke  at his country home in Isuofia, Aguata Local Government Area after he was declared the winner by INEC

But Anambra ADC chairman, Comrade Patrick Obianyo, described the results of the election as a joke

He said despite the complaints and avalanche of things during the election, INEC declared the result, adding the governorship candidate of the party, Mr John Nwosu will react later

Labour Party candidate, Dr George Moghalu, said he could not believe that what transpired during the election would rear its head again.

“The vote buying and intimidation were obvious and democracy cannot thrive in an atmosphere of such nature, it’s very unfortunate,” he stated.

Sir Paul Chukwuma’s Chief of Staff, CJ Chinwuba, told The Nation that the election will go down the history as the worst in Anambra State in years to come.

“They did everything in the open. This victory is not what anyone can celebrate,” he stated.

Soludo’s re-election affirmation of ‘visionary leadership’, says Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Anambra Governor Chukwuma Soludo on his re-election, describing the outcome as a clear endorsement of the former Central Bank chief’s “visionary leadership” and the progress recorded under his administration.

In a congratulatory message he personally wrote on Sunday, the President said Soludo’s “overwhelming victory” makes him only the third Governor in the political history of Anambra State to secure a second term in office.

He commended the people of Anambra, security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the peaceful and successful conduct of the poll.

“Professor Soludo’s re-election is a testament to his visionary leadership and the significant progress the state has made under his guidance,” Tinubu said, adding that the Governor, widely referred to as “Mr Solution”, has proven “that knowledge is power and that academic principles can be applied in serving the people, undergirding accountability, transparency and prudent management of people and resources.”

The President recalled his visit to Anambra State in May, where he inaugurated several projects executed by the Soludo administration, noting that the experience “will remain indelible in my mind.”

He extolled the Governor’s style of leadership, lauding his “discipline, grace, brilliance and fresh perspective to governance,” which he said have helped Anambra live up to its motto as the “Light of the Nation.”

Urging Soludo to be magnanimous in victory, Tinubu advised him to seek the cooperation of his opponents in the just-concluded election, while assuring him of the continued support of the Federal Government.

He also commended the All Grand Progressives Alliance (AGPA), describing the party’s triumph as further evidence of the vitality of Nigeria’s political system.

The President also praised the newly appointed INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, and his team for what he described as a credible election, based on reports so far received.

He charged the commission to maintain its standards and continue efforts to strengthen the nation’s electoral system.

Tinubu reaffirmed commitment to continued collaboration between the Federal Government and the Anambra State Government.

A statement by Adeshina highlighted Soludo’s bold strides in infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, and security as the cornerstone of his triumph.

He said: “Governor Soludo has proven himself a servant leader who listens – roads are being rebuilt, schools are thriving, and farmers are harvesting hope. Anambra’s residents have rewarded this vision with their trust.”

The statement assured that under Soludo’s continued leadership, the people of Anambra will reap even greater dividends of democracy.

“Prof. Soludo’s re-election means more jobs, better services, and a brighter future for the youth and women of Anambra.”

Adewale said: “Your overwhelming mandate is a clarion call for renewed hope. Governor Soludo will not let you down.”

He called for prayers and collaboration as the new term begins.

  • Oborevwori’s defection to APC ushered in ‘greater love’ from Presidency — Aniagwu

Oborevwori’s defection to APC ushered in ‘greater love’ from Presidency — Aniagwu

Delta Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, has provided insights into Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s recent defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In an interview on TVC’s Politics Tonight, Aniagwu described the Governor’s shift as a “necessary adjustment to the changing political climate.”

He emphasised that the decision was strategic, grounded in a “clear understanding of where the state’s interests would be better served.”

He highlighted the political dynamics in the state and suggested that such moves were often influenced by broader considerations beyond party allegiance.

Aniagwu stated: “We noticed a change in the taste of the palm wine, and it became necessary to adjust our drinking pattern,” Aniagwu said metaphorically. “That was what we did, taking a look at what was happening in the PDP. From what we have seen since that time, our governor saw tomorrow.”

The Commissioner added that since the governor joined the APC in April 2025, Delta State had received greater attention and support from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Aniagwu said: “Even while we were in the PDP, there was love. But becoming a member of the same family has brought a whole new level of partnership and progress. Politics, after all, is local and if this new political alignment benefits our people, it is the right step.”

Read Also: PowerChina/I²-ESS, Katar Communications partner to boost renewable energy in Nigeria

Aniagwu addressed reports of internal tension within the APC in Delta State following the Governor’s entry into the party.

He acknowledged that merging old APC members with new entrants from the PDP naturally created differing interests, but insisted that the administration had worked to harmonize all sides.

“You don’t expect that the moment you move in, everybody will be on the same page,” he said. “But what the governor has done since April 28 is to manage these interests and bring a lot of people together.”

Aniagwu dismissed claims made by some APC stakeholders that the Governor’s camp was sidelining older party members, saying that political disagreements were normal in a democracy.

“That someone comes on TV to express grievances does not mean he is bitter,” Aniagwu said. “Democracy offers everyone the right to speak. What matters is that, at the end of the day, we all move in one direction.”

Responding to allegations of “kangaroo suspensions” of party officials in some local governments, including Ughelli North and Ethiope West, Aniagwu denied any high-handedness, saying party members acted within their rights.

He explained: “If a local government party chairman is not doing what he is supposed to do, the people in that local government have the power to act.

“That does not mean the Governor is interfering. The processes of the party must be respected.”

JUST IN: Oluyede emerges Ekiti PDP Gov candidate

Renowned physician and businessman, Dr. Wole Oluyede, has emerged the governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2026 election in Ekiti State.

Oluyede clinched the ticket after polling 279 votes to defeat his closest rival, Funsho Ayeni, who garnered 239 votes, while the only female aspirant in the race, Funmi Oguns, secured 17 votes.

The keenly contested primary election was held on Saturday at the Vino Event Centre, Elemi, along Afao Road in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital

The exercise was monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies who ensured a peaceful shadow poll.

Accreditation of delegates began around 6:00 pm with voting extending late into the night and concluding in the early hours of Sunday.

Delegates from the 16 local government areas  participated in the exercise, which party observers described as orderly and credible despite the long hours.

An Australia-based medical doctor, Oluyede has practised across several continents—including the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, and Australia—amassing vast international experience and networks over the years.

In his acceptance speech, Oluyede expressed gratitude to his supporters, party leaders, and faithful members whose commitment and resilience, he said, made his victory possible.

He dedicated the triumph to all members of the PDP, assuring them that there would be no losers in the contest but “partners in progress and champions of democracy.”

“I thank every member of our great party who believed in the process and in the vision we share for a greater Ekiti,” Oluyede said.

“Together, we have demonstrated that internal democracy is alive and thriving in the PDP in Ekiti State. There are no losers here—only partners working toward a common goal.”

He commended the conduct of the primary election, describing it as competitive, transparent, and fair, and hailed the spirit of maturity displayed by the aspirants.

The PDP flag bearer also appreciated the factional National Chairman of the Party, Ambassador Ilya Damagum, for unwavering support and commitment to fairness and transparency in the process.

Oluyede further extended gratitude to the Southwest leaders of the PDP, especially Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde, for ensuring a level playing field for all aspirants throughout the exercise.

He also saluted his fellow aspirants for their forthrightness and maturity during the primary, noting that their conduct strengthened faith in the party’s democratic process.

“With this victory, I assure Ekiti people that true change is coming,” he declared. “The journey has just begun, and together, we will build a state that reflects the hopes and aspirations of our people.”
