  • Grand birthday soiree for Oyedele at 70

Grand birthday soiree for Oyedele at 70

Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and others have greatness thrust upon them, these attributes aptly describe the humble beginning and tortuous journey of an educationist and businessman, Alhaji Nurudeen Oyedele.

From a very humble and illiterate background, Alhaji Oyedele weathered the storm to attain the height which now endears him to many as an astute administrator, a retired permanent secretary in Ogun State, a devout Muslim, businessman, a school proprietor and a Club man.

This self-effacing gentleman would rather allow his work to speak for him instead of the fortune he has.

Oyedele, the founder of SOLTAB Schools and chairman of Ojumo Enterprises, carries himself with a lot of accustomed dignity in society.

On Saturday, July 22, Oyedele will join the league of Septuagenarians and indeed senior citizens as he turns 70.

For Oyedele’s 70th, all roads would lead to the OOPL Hall inside the expansive Obasanjo Library Complex in Abeokuta, Ogun State as associates, businessmen, friends, children, and family members gather to celebrate God’s grace on the life of the administrator.

The charming and charismatic Oyedele has so much to be thankful for and these include good health, a great family, thriving enterprises as well as well-run educational facilities helping to shape the future of many kids.

Ordinarily, Oyedele will not allow a gaudy 70th celebration but many of his associates and children prevailed upon him to shed his conservative toga for once, let his hair down, and celebrate without inhibitions.

Abiodun Oshinibosi makes case for girl-child

Abiodun Oshinibosi, the honcho man behind Abelinis Limited is up to something new and it’s a not-for-profit project that will benefit the girl-child.

Buoyed by the pertinent need to further amplify and extrapolate UN Secretary-General, Antonio Gutteres’ summation that “Investing in girls, is investing in our common future,” Abelinis as Oshibonusi is fondly called, has come up with the project called The Girl-Child Matrix.

The project, according to him, was triggered by the need to offer the girl-child, who in most cases is usually left disadvantaged, a better chance and opportunity to excel in all fields of human endeavour.

Planned to coincide with the International Day of the Girl-Child, on October 11, Oshinibosi explained that there had been increased attention on issues that matter to girls amongst government, policymakers, and the general public, and more opportunities for girls to have their voices heard on the global stage.

He, however, explained that investments in girls’ rights remain limited and girls continue to confront a myriad of challenges fulfilling their potential.

Oshibonusi’s project for the girl-child is targeted at girls between 11 and 16 years in secondary schools, proficient in English or French in 12 different states and cities across Nigeria.

The project will be held in commemoration of the 12th anniversary of International Girl-Child Day, on October 11, 2023.

12 girls, who emerge tops, will go through finishing school and workshops while understudying respected and renowned Nigerians. They will also get cash prizes of 22,000 Canadian Dollars.

“The ultimate goal is to produce an ‘Advo-Documentary’ tagged: Girl-Child Matrix Series 1. This will be released for general viewing and broadcast on all possible platforms to further achieve the desired objectives, among them, to boost and bolster the confidence of the girl child. The overall winner in each city will win $5000 CAD while the other 11 finalists in each city will get $2000 each,” Abelinis said.

On why he has taken up this fresh advocacy, Oshinibosi, an experiential marketer who has been effectively and efficiently providing marketing solutions to multinationals, government agencies and individuals since 2007, said he believes the girl child deserves more.

    Dangote remains Africa’s wealthiest

For the 12th year in a row, Dangote Group’s boss Aliko Dangote maintains his status as the richest man in Africa.

Despite economic headwinds that affected the fortunes of half of the world’s reported billionaires, Dangote makes the billionaires’ list as the only Nigerian with an estimated net worth of $14.2 billion, up from last year’s $12.1 billion.

With his business flagship, Dangote Cement Plc, Dangote rose against falling stocks, wounded unicorns, and rising interest rates to be on the list while some of the world’s wealthiest people had a down year.

The GCON awardee is ranked 124th among the 200 world’s richest billionaires. Aside from being the only Nigerian on the list, he also stands tall as one of the two Africans. He’s joined on the list by South Africa’s Johann Rupert, who deals in luxury goods and ranked 157th with a net worth of $11.1 billion.

The foremost philanthropist had earlier been rated 11th of the 50 World’s Greatest Men and Women of all Time by Fortune Magazine for being able to use his conglomerate to impact society positively.

Dangote has hard work and God’s grace to thank as Forbes reported that the party is over for many of the world’s richest people. For the second straight year, the number of billionaires around the globe has declined from 2,668 in 2022 to 2,640 in 2023 and total billionaire wealth has dropped, too – down by $500 billion, to $12.2 trillion – as turbulent times have hit both public and private markets.

The report further said nearly half the planet’s billionaires are poorer than they were a year ago. A total of 254 people have lost their billionaire status altogether yet others recorded gains.

On BRF’s astronomic trajectory at 60

Hard work, loyalty, and diligence are three core values for the growth of anybody on earth but for Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), he took extra effort and multi-dimensional cerebral prowess to get to where he is today.

As he glides into the leagues of Sexagenarians on Wednesday, June 28, the former minister has butterflies in his tummy.

Adjudged as an active person who is also a workaholic, he has shown the trait of a great man from his formative years. Those who grew with him averred that he is a stickler for success and he also maximises opportunity at any given time. His trajectory in the political space is divine.

When most of his peers were struggling, he had already set a path for greatness when he was the poster boy for the Action Congress as Governor of Lagos. With his giant strides, performance, and governance style, he won the hearts of many as he became a reference point with his “no-nonsense” style.

As Governor of Lagos, or ‘Class Captain’ as he is fondly called by his intimate friends and political associate, he ensured discipline was instilled not minding whose ox is gored.

He single-handedly became a model that won most south-west states for his party because he made sure governance was a serious business and as a trained lawyer with years of experience post-bar; he was fearless, witty, knowledgeable, and armed with native intelligence. He was a total package as his indelible footprints in the history of Lagos cannot be shoved away with a wave of the hand.

After displaying so much capacity as Governor of Lagos, President Buhari immediately absorbed the University of Benin trained lawyer as a pivotal member of his cabinet blessing him with three portfolios: Power, Works and Housing. He became the first and only minister to head such a position. When detractors were concerned that he was not going to perform, BRF outdid himself by ensuring he optimised his performance delivering from all aspects.
