It’s been a year since my beloved wife, Modupe, went to be with the Lord. You are warmly invited as we worship, remember, and give thanks for her inspiring life,” he wrote.

For many, the memory of that sombre Saturday, October 19, 2024, remains vivid — the day news broke that Mrs Dada had passed on at a private hospital in Lagos after a brief illness. She was aged 48.

Until her passing, Mrs Dada, a committed banking professional, served with distinction at various banks in Nigeria, where she had earned a well-deserved promotion and respect for super performance— a testament to her diligence, excellence, and unwavering commitment to her profession.

The memorial service on Sunday, scheduled to be superintended by Reverend Femi Paul, will not only honour Modupe’s memory but also celebrate her enduring legacy of faith, compassion, friendship and genuine love — virtues that continue to inspire those she left behind.

When Iperu paused for Mama Abiodun

    By ‘Dare Odufowokan

Last Wednesday, the ancient town of Iperu-Remo in Ikenne Local Government Area (LGA) of Remo Federal Constituency in Ogun State, paused for hours, soaked in glitz and glamour, as Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, his siblings and the entire Abiodun family hosted the 90th birthday celebration of their jewel of a mother, Chief Mrs. Victoria Olaitan Abiodun, in grand style.

From the hallowed hall of St. James Anglican Church, Iperu, where dignitaries from across the world converged for a commemoration service in celebration of Mama Abiodun’s life of service and devotion, to the streets of Iperu, where the jubilant people of Remoland, across all social and economic divides, celebrated Mama Victoria Olaitan Abiodun’s birthday as a remarkable milestone, and all the way to the grand reception in honour of the celebrant, held within the alluring confines of a tastefully constructed marque on the premises of the Christ Apostolic Grammar School, Iperu-Remo, prayers, joy, music, and heartfelt tributes honouring a deserving matriarch, filled the air.

Truth be told, the 90th birthday events of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s mother were heartwarming celebrations of her life and legacy. Family, friends, and loved ones gathered to rejoice over a life that has touched numerous others for good. The day teed off at the beautiful and historic St. James Anglican Church with stunning stained-glass windows, elegant chandeliers, and a warm, inviting atmosphere. The wooden pews showed as if freshly polished, and the altar was decorated with a special 90th birthday arrangement. All in honour of a devoted and revered member of the congregation, Mama Victoria Olaitan.

Sitting pretty and radiating joy, the ninety-year-old birthday-girl looked around her to see a church hall filled to the brim and pouring out, into the expansive compound and beyond. Her expressions were those of happiness and fulfilment. Adorned beautifully in sparkling white iro and buba, with glittering royal blue gele and ipele, and stable blue shoes to match, mama caught the picture of the day’s special guest of honour.

Behind her and her children with their immediate families, family members, friends, guests and church members, all dressed in the eye-catching green and orange aso ebi, gather to celebrate this milestone birthday. The congregation sang hymns and songs of praise, accompanied by the church choir. The music – uplifting and celebratory, and the mood was simply joyous. The choir sang, the congregation danced, and the celebrant beamed with appreciative smiles at dignitaries from across the country, including a strong delegation from the presidency that had Vice President Kashim Shettima; Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume; Chief of Staff to the President, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, and others. Their presence showed how important the event was to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

    Kayode Ojo’s dream cut short

Engineer Kayode Olubunmi Ojo is a certified Nigerian engineer, who made a name for himself with sheer hard work and dedication over a few decades. The philanthropist, who also ventured into politics, has been eyeing the Ado Ekiti State house for some time.

EKO, as Ojo is fondly called, had his dream cut short after his attempt at contesting for the All Progressives Congress (APC)  Ekiti State governorship primaries was stopped midway.

It is no longer news that his candidacy was disqualified by the APC, however, what many do not know is the impact of the dream, which was cut short.

His sin, according to reports, was not conforming to the party’s constitution and electoral act provisions. He was also reported to have failed to meet the required nominators per local government.

The youthful Pro-Chancellor & Chairman, Governing Council, University of Nigeria Nsukka, had his hopes dashed by the party after his disqualification from the race.

Those close to Ojo noted that beyond his boardroom acumen, he also served as Pro-Chancellor across three reputable higher institutions, where his leadership has been marked by reforms, infrastructural renewal, and a commitment to academic excellence. He understands the central role education plays in shaping the future of Ekiti, a state known for its rich intellectual heritage.

Ojo’s dream of leading the Ekiti people has been a long one but it became public in 2018 when he said he contested because he believed he could change the story of Ekiti State for the better. He invested in youths and supported himself with young Ekiti indigenes to achieve his dream.

The question on the lips of many is,  will this be the last of Ojo on the political scene?

    Paddy Adenuga’s heart of gratitude

Paddy Adenuga, one of the sons of legendary business mogul, Dr Mike Adenuga, is no small fry in the world of business as his exploits transcend several countries and three continents.

With his eyes firmly fixed on striking gold on his own, fame and fortune have not, for once, made Paddy lose focus.

The 41-year-old businessman has taken after his parents in many ways, and one of the ways, aside from his ambitious moves, is his heart of gratitude.

If anything, Paddy sure knows the essence of gratitude and doesn’t hesitate in expressing thanksgiving where needed.

The boyishly handsome Paddy has been grateful to God for many reasons, and those close to him chipped in that one of the reasons isn’t unconnected to his success as a businessman, who is taking giant strides without recourse to his billionaire father’s largesse. Though a word of advice here and there from his father and mother always came in handy, Paddy stands tall as one who made it on his own while doing what pleases him in the world of business and life.

Always keeping his lips sealed on his next move and his strategy operational till it is completed, Paddy is said to be making not only his father but sisters and friends proud with his achievements outside the shores of Nigeria.

On his film project, no word has been heard from those close to him, but his inner circles noted that if Paddy is passionate about anything, it is about completing the project, just like his other business ventures.

His ambitious ways ensure the Ijebu indigene doesn’t sit still even after achieving so many things at his age.

For Paddy, there always has to be a new conquest, a new mountain to climb, or, as is the case most times, a new business to go after.

His above modest townhouse in London has always been his nest to plot his next move, and this might be in the world of upstream oil & gas or other sectors. The abode and a few choice restaurants also serve as places for thanksgiving and expression of gratitude to God for every one of his achievements.
