Changing times for Queen Aanu, Alaafin’s one-time favourite

While many are yet to understand the situation of Alaafin of Oyo’s estranged wife, Queen Aanu, it is glaring she has left the palace.

Things happen so fast in life and this explains Aanu’s present predicament. A few months ago, she was said to occupy a special position in Alaafin’s heart. But things have deteriorated badly to the extent that the mother of two claimed during the week that her life was being threatened for leaving the marriage.

But earlier in the year while celebrating her birthday, she spoke glowingly of the king describing him as her lover and history teacher.

She wrote: “I also want to thank my husband, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Dr. Lamidi Olayiwola Atanda Adeyemi III, Iku Baba Yeye, Alaafin of Oyo. JP CFR LLD SAP who has been the Gamaliel under whose feet I continue to learn.

“He teaches me to be focused, that ambition is made with sterner stuff and that a person without goals sets before him or she could be regarded as unambitious, that he or she is like a ship without a rudder, a play without a plot and an aimless wanderer in the voyage of life.”

When three powerful kings in Yorubaland pay you a visit, it brings a special feeling. That was the exact feeling Reverend Mother Abimbola Esther Ajayi and her husband, Ademuyiwa Ajayi, had a few days ago, when they played host to Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Oniru of Iruland, Oba Gbolahan Lawal and Oba Saheed Ademola, Elegushi of Ikate-Elegushi Kingdom, in their new Lekki home.

The visit amid fanfare was barely a week after they hosted former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The Ooni has always shown Reverend Ajayi great love and support. Whenever she reaches out to the king, he hardly ever fails her.

Even though the stylish wife of Oba Saheed Elegushi shunned a big celebration for her birthday on Tuesday, November 10, she still remembered to extend a kind gesture to her people.

Through her foundation, the Quality and Selfless Empowerment (QSE) Foundation, health screening for ailments such as malaria, blood sugar and blood pressure were extended to over 200 persons. Medical professionals from the Preach Health Foundation were also on ground to provide advice and medication.

Later in the day, there was light refreshment for the family and close friends at her event centre, The Monarch. The queen was quoted saying this year had been a significant one with so many challenges, which fueled her decision to have a low-key celebration.

Meanwhile, Oba Elegushi also showered best wishes on his wife thanking her for being a great wife.

He wrote on Instagram: “Great is God’s faithfulness; because they are new every morning”. My dear wife, I celebrate you today, like I do every day. I wish you more happiness and fulfilment as you continue to radiate in Allah’s blessings. Thank you for being a wonderful wife and dotting mother. Have the best birthday ever. I love you.”

One of the few businessmen in the country who have had their names etched in gold, is Leo Stan Ekeh, Chairman, Zinox Group. Not only known for business excellence, but reaching out to those around him with love has also made him an angel in human form.

He has scored many firsts in the past but continues in that trend, in fact, he was born a leader. Ekeh stands out as a man with great foresight. A rare feature that has helped him grow in everything he has ventured into.

Undoubtedly, today the Imo State-born billionaire is one personality whose love for fellow human beings is second to none. This is because he gives out freely without attaching unnecessary attention to it, while he would rather do this out of the media cynosure.

It was gathered that one of Ekeh’s businesses, Konga, suffered huge losses running into billions of Naira during the recent attacks on lives and properties by hoodlums and arsonists.

At least five warehouses belonging to the online store situated in different locations in Lagos were looted and properties vandalised. “Hoodlums attacked Konga Warehouses in Marina, Lekki, and 3 three locations. High tech electronics and other household appliances were carted away by hoodlums and vandals,” a source disclosed.

Surprisingly, Leo Stan, who sits atop of Zinox Group business conglomerate which includes; Zinox Technologies Ltd; TD Africa; Task Systems Ltd; TD Plus; TDiLife, among others; as well as the Konga Group, is unperturbed about the loss. He has made moves to replace the loss. Despite the massive set back on his business, he is not even bothered about it. “When we thought the Chairman was going to be moody about the loss, he was unperturbed. He said he is in support of the youths’ agitation of bringing an end to police brutality. It’s quite unfortunate that it was hijacked by arsonists and looters to perpetrate evil. He has immediately ordered the replacement of the looted items and is currently renovating the burgled facility. Leo Stan is currently constructing Africa’s first robotic warehouse in Lekki, Lagos state. The facility should be open for operation mid-2021.” the source further added.

O.B Lulu Briggs’ family still unsettled two years after

    By Oladapo Sofowora

In less than a month, it will be two years since the demise of Rivers state billionaire and oil magnate, High Chief O. B. Lulu Briggs at age 89.

Since his demise, there has been an unending crisis between the deceased children, led by the eldest son, Dumo Lulu Briggs, and his widow, Chief (Mrs.) Seinye Lulu Briggs.

While Briggs was alive, he enjoyed life to the fullest – stylish and cosmopolitan with an unflinching love for his culture and the Kalabari kingdom. According to those in the know, one of the late Briggs’ silent prayers is to get a befitting burial at his country home after the transition. Sadly, two years after his demise, the head honcho of Moni Pulo Limited’s silent prayer is yet to be answered.

When the cold war and animosity in the dynasty began shortly after Briggs’ demise in Ghana, not many thought it would take longer to resolve. Some thought the family would unite and sheath their swords to honour the late head of Oruwari Briggs House in Abonnema, Rivers State.

Rather than sue for peace, Briggs’ first son, Dumo, and his widow, Seinye, have been at dagger draws with several litigations filed at courts in Ghana and Nigeria. At a point, Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike alongside some other Kalabari respected chiefs waded into the issue but all proved abortive as the animosity between the warring parties remained unshaken.

Dumo had previously alleged that the circumstances surrounding the death of his father remain suspicious. He then approached a court to allow him to carry out a comprehensive autopsy on the remains of his late father. Mrs. Seinye also filed an application before the Supreme Court in Accra, Ghana but the apex court declined her application for an injunction to stop the Ghana Police and the Transition Funeral Home from releasing the remains of her husband to the family headed by Dumo. In March 2020, Briggs’ remains were released and flown to Nigeria on the orders of Dumo. Many had thought since the remains of the late Chief arrived in Nigeria, the family would announce his burial plans but that never happened.

In a seeming twist to the battle, Chief Mrs. Seinye raised allegations that her step-son was keeping the remains of her late hubby from her. During a press conference, Briggs’ widow cried out saying Dumo is hiding the remains of their late husband from her.
