IT is okay to dream – some dreams actually come true. The dream of a 17-year-old corn seller, Samuel, has come true after meeting Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi.

But the boy didn’t just stay idle while dreaming. Passionate about drawing, he drew a pencil portrait of the Ooni and it turned out to be a social media sensation.

After the Oba got wind of the drawing, he invited the lad to his palace and offered to sponsor his education to university level. The king also assured him that he would offer him a job in his palace after graduation.

When it comes to the show of generosity, among Nigerian traditional rulers, Oba Ogunwusi is a leader. Many people have benefited from his philanthropy and he did that cheerfully even before mounting the throne.

ONCE some politicians taste power, they want to remain in or around government because of the many benefits that come with it. But the same cannot be said of the immediate past governor of Bauchi, Mohammed Abubakar.

Recently, Abubakar, who is a lawyer, was spotted in court working on a case. He looked like one who never took a break as he was cheerful among his colleagues in the chamber.

He was first elected governor of Bauche State in 2015 under the banner of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). His attempt to return to office for another four years hit the rocks last year as he was defeated by the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Bala Mohammed.

    Akeredolu undaunted

    By Oladapo Sofowora

In 2016, providence granted respected lawyer and politician, Arakurin Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN, his heart desires as he won a keenly contested election against odds.

In the build-up to the election, Akeredolu at no point saw any reason to entomb his living dream.

Indeed, some of his detractors reportedly tagged him as an incorrigible dreamer, but the lawyer was unperturbed about the enormity of the odds against him.

Everywhere he went during the campaign, he was armed with his pragmatic manifesto, pleading with his people to give him a chance to serve them.

Even when it was obvious that some powerful elements in the state posed a threat to his political ambition, he held on to his dream with uncommon steadfastness. Luckily, he eventually had the last laugh.

It will be recalled that he had lost the bid to clinch the number one job in the state in 2012. But the experience only toughened him when he offered himself to serve his people again.

While he was neck-deep in the campaign, he still maintained his cool, even in the face of needless lies and abuses hurled at him, he refused to join issues with his other political opponents.

Today, Akeredolu is already showing evidence of a brilliant mind who knows what to do when fate offers him a rare opportunity in life.

With three years and a half into his first term, Aketi, as he is popularly called by his admirers, has proved that he is indeed a silent achiever.

Sources from the state say the incumbent governor of Ondo State has left his indelible footprints in several sectors of the state.

Society Rendezvous gathered that despite recently contracting the deadly COVID-19 virus and currently under self-isolation, he is ready to take his opponents to the cleaners at the polls.

  • Where is Princess Fifi Ejindu?

    Where is Princess Fifi Ejindu?

    By Oladapo Sofowora

Urban, cosmopolitan, stylish, showstopper, and many more are some of the words that best describe the persona of Princess Fifi Ekanem Ejindu.

Fifi is the great-granddaughter of King James Ekpo Bassey of Cobham Town in Calabar. Little wonder she oozes royalty anytime she saunters into any public function.

Just like the proverbial masquerade that comes out in it’s best form to display its beautiful attire and aesthetics, Princess Fifi attends social functions in grand opulence ready to make a fashion statement.

Despite being born with a noble aristocratic pedigree, being the daughter of the first minister for health from the defunct Eastern region Professor Silvester Joseph Una, she is indeed an epitome of respect and culture.

She is a humanitarian to the core. She puts humanity first in anything she does. Her charity and philanthropist gestures speak volumes of her persona as a cheerful giver without blinking an eye.

Apart from her family background, her resume is quite an intimidating one. In 1983, she emerged as the first black African woman to be awarded a B.Arch from the prestigious Pratt Institute, a private design college in Brooklyn, New York, where she also bagged her M.sc in Urban Planning.

She is regarded as a woman living in a man’s world. She has refused to be stereotyped with the cliche surrounding women.

Single-handedly, Fifi has redefined construction infusing her traditional renaissance and medieval taste mixed with modern materials to create her magic paying attention to every detail.

Her projects littered across Nigeria and Dubai are receipts for those who have doubted her capability.

Since last year, her admirers are worried about her whereabouts and why she has shunned social gatherings. For over a year now, she rarely attends shindigs and soirees.

Those who wait on the red carpet to catch a glimpse of her fashion statement anytime she graces an event have also missed her dearly.

Her lowkey style lately is becoming worrisome as it has begun to generate a mixed reaction from her admirers.

Sources told Society Rendezvous that she seems to have been preoccupied with lots of work in Akwa Ibom state, where she’s currently consulting for Governor Emmanuel Udom on vital projects.

    By Olushola Victor

Wondering what Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, have in common? They are both members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), from the same Yoruba race and both are men of outstanding style.

Only a few know that these top politicians share the same birthday. The only difference is one is five years older than the other. On Thursday, June 25, the Speaker clocked 58 while Sanwo-Olu celebrated his 55th birthday.

There was no loud ceremony because the governor said that the best birthday gift anyone could give him at this period was to identify those at the bottom of the pyramid wherever they reside, lift them up by putting smiles on their faces.  That, according to him, would have lifted his heart too.

Sanwo-Olu described his birthday mate as a dogged, determined and hardworking friend while praying to God continue to keep the Speaker in good health.

Unlike Sanwo-Olu, in politics, Gbajabiamila has been around for a while. The lawyer was elected to the House in 2003, representing Surulere I Federal Constituency in Lagos, and re-elected in 2007.
