  • Siminialayi Fubara hits the spotlight

    Siminialayi Fubara hits the spotlight

Rivers State Governor Siminialayi Fubara is one of the most misunderstood personalities in the country. He earned that misconception since his emergence as flagbearer of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) before the 2023 elections. Many felt Sim, as he is fondly called, would be a puppet and his administration will allow his successor to stay in office for the third time by proxy. Many said he is a man who can’t take decisions on his own without his predecessor’s consent. Many even felt that a very reserved but highly cerebral man like him has slim chances of performance but Governor Sim, in his usual manner, kept mute and worked assiduously hard to prove naysayers wrong. Instead of derailing from the laid down plans by the previous administration, he glued to it and further built and consolidated on it to his own advantage. Today, he has rewritten all the negative narratives about him. Those who felt he was going to find it hard to fill the lacuna left by former Governor Wike were disappointed that he is keeping up sustaining the pace. He remains the first Governor who announced his cabinet immediately after swearing in without wasting time. He also showed that as a team player, you need to bring all hands on deck to ensure the smooth running of government so he never hesitated to ensure everyone was on the same page with him in delivering his dividend of democracy to the good people of Rivers.

Due to the harsh effects of the recent subsidy removal, Sim has ensured that he provides palliative measures to civil servants in order to cushion the effects with free bus rides. Many, who criticised him in the past, have woken up to the reality that he is a man in tune with the happenings around him and if given maximum support, he will perform optimally. As part of his administration’s promise to ensure infrastructural development across the oil-rich state, Fubara recently launched a 51-kilometre ring road worth billions of Naira which will commence after the flag-off. In a bid to achieve the project, some buildings that would be affected by demolition will get compensation from the government. This will enable them to get another place to reside and also place the government as a government that prioritizes the welfare of the people.
