  • On Kola Karim’s lowkey birthday

    On Kola Karim’s lowkey birthday

To Nigerian businessman and oil mogul, Orikolade Karim, Managing Director, Shoreline Energy, November 24 of every year is a day worth celebrating, as it signifies the beginning of his earthly sojourn. Mercifully, this year, Karim, who is also the Agbaoye of Ibadan land, is privileged to see another year on mother earth. For a man of his status, it won’t be so surprising if he chooses to present his memoirs on the occasion of his 54th birthday. Certainly, if the billionaire decides to put the story of his life in black and white for public consumption, it will make an interesting read.

His memoirs also will certainly be an inspiration to aspiring businessmen and compelling textual material for humanity. If you are in doubt, the story of his steady rise in the sector as one of the biggest players is proof that he was born under the proverbial lucky star. But close sources hinted that he is not in a hurry to release his memoirs for public consumption because he believes that he is still an evolving phenomenon.

However, the Polo buff, who sits atop other conglomerates, will have more than one reason to be joyous, apart from the grace to survive the mysteries of the days and nights in the past year. When he rises from his ornate massive bed to witness the dawn of the new beautiful day, his heart will be filled with gratitude to God for the grace to mark another birthday in sound health.

Reliable sources disclosed that the birthday celebrations was low-key. In other words, there was no carnival-like celebrations. Though he is not given to frivolities or throwing any form of revelry, his family members, friends, business associates, fans and admirers shared in his joy and poured encomiums on him on occasion. The man who does not court media attention unnecessarily has touched several lives whose paths have crossed his in so many positive ways. He is as generous, collaborative, and lovable as he is innovative and brilliant.

The mogul has a large heart and loves to see others succeed. He has an innate belief that behind every success story are others helping to make it happen. Probably because he keeps the cameras away during his altruistic gestures, many don’t know that he is one of the biggest philanthropists in Nigeria at the moment. It is a fact that the brilliant man has good eyes for investments. His convictions can move mountains and his determination can shatter ceilings. This, no doubt, gave him an edge over his competitors.

In the views of some observers, Karim’s continued relevance, nay staying power, should provoke some careful study by aspiring entrepreneurs or even established ones, especially in Nigeria’s inclement business environment.

Those who have followed his political trajectory will submit that it’s divine because he was an accomplished billionaire businessman. He saw politics as an avenue to give back to his own state. At a time when all odds were against him in the build-up to the election, Governor Abiodun worked against the tides fighting all forces standing against him to become victorious at the pool as the 5th Democratically elected Governor of the state.

Today, he is performing excellently well putting Ogun state as one of the most economically viable states in Nigeria with various results to show how assiduously he has been working.  On assuming office, Abiodun hit the ground running by ensuring all rot in the educational sector in Ogun State is fixed by the construction and upgrade of classes making them conducive enough for learning.  He also ensured he mobilized contractors for roads abandoned by his predecessor to be completed, ensuring the gateway state meets up to its true potential.

One thing standing Dapo Abiodun out from his peers is his industrial revolution and his liberalisation creating avenues for ease of doing business in Ogun State which has attracted Public Private Partnerships, and Foreign Direct Investment including multinationals bringing investment to create massive job opportunities boosting the production capacity of Nigeria.
