He said the governor has distinguished himself in every sector of development more especially in the area of youth empowerment within the three years of his administration

“Because of that, we want this empowerment to continue, and this lies on the mandate of voting him into power again come November  8 gubernatorial election”.

Describing ASTUC YOUTH leaders as grassroot- oriented, Okoli said members could be seen and felt in all the nooks and crannies of the state.

“We have a plan to ensure that in every polling unit, there must be massive winning for Mr Governor where one youth or two will man the polling unit to canvas and monitor the electoral processes.

“Our target is simple we want to win every polling unit for Mr Governor”.

Okoli urged youths  to come out and participate on the election day.

“We don’t want youths to play football or entertain themselves but to come out massively, for those that have voters card to vote and those that do not have to monitor the process and make sure that every single vote counts.

The  Coordinator ASTUC Youths Ladies, Omenaka Anthonia  said the women were fully prepared as regards mobilizing other youths, especially the ladies for the forthcoming election.

She said: “We already have things working out as planned, and we are ever ready to vote in our solution governor for the second time.

“Women are the majority voters and also have the capacity to convince the electorates to come out and enmass and vote.

    Group advocates violence-free poll

The CLEEN Foundation has warned that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies should be held accountable for any violence or lawlessness during the forthcoming Anambra State governorship election.

Acting Executive Director, Peter Maduoma, in a statement issued in Onitsha, said Anambra’s electoral history has been marred by political violence and impunity.

He recalled the abduction of then-Governor Chris Ngige by police officers allegedly acting under political influence in 2003.

He noted that despite repeated crises and legal battles, no one was ever held accountable, creating a dangerous culture of impunity.

According to the foundation’s recent report, Anambra recorded 14 politically linked killings between 2022 and 2024, raising fears that unchecked violence could threaten the November 2025 poll.

“The rise in violent incidents, small arms circulation, and armed group activities poses a major threat to the electoral process,” the statement said.

“The atmosphere of insecurity is undermining voter confidence, with several local governments already identified as high-risk areas.”

The group also warned that intra-party clashes, cult-related violence, and disinformation were worsening public distrust in the political system.

It urged INEC and security agencies to implement proactive security measures and rebuild public confidence before the election.

Maduoma expressed concern that the experience of the 2023 general elections had eroded faith in the process.

“From January to now, about 63 people have been abducted, some with suspected political links,” he said.

He called for regular pre-election security briefings, updated risk assessments, and the activation of a Security Support Centre by November 7, to monitor and coordinate early responses to emerging threats.

    ADC candidate pledges one-term tenure

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for the November 8 Anambra governorship election, John Nwosu, has pledged to serve only one term of four years if elected.

Nwosu made the commitment in an affidavit deposed to at the Anambra State High Court, affirming his intention to uphold the state’s zoning arrangement.

He said the move was prompted by concerns from voters who feared his election could disrupt the existing power rotation among the three senatorial zones.

According to him, the declaration demonstrates his commitment to transparency, accountability, and public trust.

“I deposed to the affidavit for many reasons. We take our mission to rescue Anambra seriously.

“Seeking public trust is serious business, and our word must be our bond.”

In the affidavit, Nwosu swore that if elected governor, he would serve a single four-year term to allow Anambra Central Senatorial Zone to produce the next governor in line with equity and natural justice.

He acknowledged that the South Senatorial Zone, which currently occupies the seat, has one term left under the rotation principle.

Nwosu also challenged other gubernatorial candidates who have made similar one-term promises to back their words with affidavits.

He said it would show sincerity and restore voters’ confidence that “politics is no longer business as usual.”

The event showcased one of the most ambitious private development interventions in the state’s history.

  • Abia: Benjamin Kalu’s courageous call and shame of others

Abia: Benjamin Kalu’s courageous call and shame of others

    • By James Nwachukwu

When Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives raised fundamental questions about transparency and accountability in the management of Abia State’s collective wealth, he was not playing politics, he was merely exercising leadership by speaking for the voiceless.

He was merely demanding to know how a state that now receives record-breaking allocations has so little to show on ground. Rather than rally behind him, a section of the Labour Party caucus in the House of Representatives rushed to issue a press statement, not to demand accountability, but to pledge allegiance to Governor Alex Otti. One must ask: allegiance to who – the people or the governor?

Even infants knew their press statement  was merely an act of cowardice, Fear of losing political favour. Fear of falling out of line in re-election matters. But it suffices it to say that  true leadership requires courage, not compliance. Abia State today receives humongous monthly allocations from the Federation Account, thanks to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bold and painful removal of fuel subsidy. That single decision freed up trillions of naira for the three tiers of government. It was a political risk of historic proportion. The President took the backlash alone. From angry citizens, labour unions, and critics, but the governors, who became the biggest beneficiaries of the policy, quietly smiled to the bank.

Abia’s monthly allocation has increased multiple times over, yet what is there to show? Roads are still deplorable, local governments remain comatose, and basic infrastructure has become a luxury. Even with these huge federal inflows, combined with Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and the local governments’ statutory allocations, Abians can still not point to developments commensurate with the financial windfall the state now enjoys.

And while Governor Otti’s supporters trumpet selective projects for propaganda, the reality across Abia’s 17 local governments tells a grim story: no local government autonomy as against the President’s clear and unambiguous directive, therefore, no visible transformation.

Now, enter the Abia State House of Assembly – a body that should be the people’s watchdog. For months, these lawmakers maintained cowardly silence as local governance was crippled and funds were handled in secrecy. But the moment Ben Kalu asked for accountability, they suddenly found their voices, not to demand transparency, but to insult! What a caricature of representation! The same Assembly that should be grilling commissioners and examining State accounts is instead performing comic relief, defending the indefensible. They should bury their heads in shame for attacking the man who did their job better than them.

Read Also: Lagos, NEMA on emergency response

While they grovel for political survival, Ben Kalu continues to stand tall. From his vantage position as Deputy Speaker, he has access to facts and figures, he knows what comes into Abia’s coffers monthly, and what the 17 local governments are entitled to. He also knows how much of that money disappears into administrative darkness. His concern is not partisan; it is patriotic. He is not talking politics; he is talking governance. And while others merely talk, Ben Kalu works – attracting federal projects, rebuilding roads, lighting up communities, and providing empowerment programs that have direct impact on the people.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu equally deserves commendation, not condemnation. He took a historic political risk by removing fuel subsidy – a move previous President’s were too timid to attempt. He faced the backlash head-on and carried the burden of national anger, while state governors quietly pocketed the windfall. Today, those governors use the same funds to polish their political image, fund propaganda, and build personal influence, yet the President is painted as a “merchant of pain.” The hypocrisy is nauseating. If President Tinubu were to treat Nigerian States the same way some governors treat their local governments – hoarding and mismanaging allocations – there would be no windfall for governors to spend, Yet the President continues to respect the constitutional rights of the states, even when they fail to replicate such fairness within their own boundaries.

So, to the LP caucus members in Abuja and their counterparts in the Abia State House of Assembly, take a moment to reflect. When your people cry over poverty, unemployment, and bad roads, remember that you stood with power, not with the people. Remember that when Ben Kalu raised questions on behalf of Abians, you responded with insults instead of integrity. The truth is simple: Abia is richer today than ever before  courtesy of Tinubu’s reforms, yet poor in visible progress. That contradiction is the shame of those who claim to represent us.

Ben Kalu and President Tinubu have shown leadership courage: one at the national level, the other at the state level. Both took the risk of unpopularity to do what is right. Meanwhile, their critics wallow in fear, hypocrisy, and self-interest. Abians are watching. Nigerians are watching. And history will remember who stood for truth and who stood for stomach infrastructure. Tinubu deserves our gratitude. Ben Kalu deserves our respect. The rest deserve our pity.

  • Why Tinubu should consider nominating a Minister from Nsukka zone to replace Nnaji

Why Tinubu should consider nominating a Minister from Nsukka zone to replace Nnaji

    • By Ike Jonathan-Ezema

As President Bola Ahmed Tinubu continues to consolidate his political base and strengthen his administration’s national appeal, strategic inclusivity remains essential for deepening his support across all regions of Nigeria.

One critical region that deserves presidential attention in this regard is the Nsukka Zone of Enugu State, a region with about 60 percent of the state voting population that has not produced a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria since the return of democracy in 1999.

Nsukka zone is also the host of University of Nigeria with a huge student and staff population.

Replacing Chief Geoffrey Uchechukwu Nnaji from Enugu East Senatorial District who resigned as a Minister following the allegations of certificate forgery, with someone from Nsukka Zone in Enugu North Senatorial District would change the 2027 voting dynamics in favour of President Tinubu.

The two minority Senatorial Districts in Enugu State (Enugu East and Enugu West Senatorial Districts) have been rotating the Ministerial slots of the state to themselves since 1999 to date, leaving out the zone whose voting strength outwaigh votes from the two senatorial districts put together.

Here is a compiled chronological list of Nigerians from Enugu State who have served as federal ministers since 1999, with each person’s ministerial portfolio(s), years in office and source citations.

    Ministers from Enugu State (1999 — 2025):

    Dubem (Gideon) Onyia
Enugu East Senatorial District Minister of State, Foreign Affairs 1999–2003

    Frank Nweke Jr.;
    Enugu East Senatorial District :
Minister (Intergovernmental Affairs & Special Duties; Information & National Orientation; Information & Communications)
    2003–2007 (various portfolios)

    Fidelia Akuabata Njeze;
Enugu West Senatorial District: Minister of State (Defence); Minister of State (Agriculture & Water Resources); Minister of Aviation (full minister) 2007–2011 (moved between roles; Aviation 2010–2011)

Bartholomew (Barth) Nnaji; Enugu East Senatorial District Minister of Power July 2011 – Aug 2012

    Prof. Ositadimma (Osita) Nebo;
Enugu West Senatorial District: Minister of Power Feb 2013-2015.

    Geoffrey Onyeama;
Enugu West Senatorial District: Minister of Foreign Affairs 2015 – 2023

    Uche (Geoffrey) Nnaji;
    Enugu East Senatorial District:
    Minister of Innovation, Science & Technology (Minister) — resigned Oct 2025 Aug 16, 2023 – Oct 2025 (resigned Oct 7–8, 2025).

This anomaly and injustice if corrected by the President Bola Tinubu’s administration, will pose a great goodwill for him in the next 2027 presidential election in the zone thereby making him to enjoy an overwhelming 60 percent of the total vote cast in Enugu State.

Nsukka Zone; The Political Stronghold of Enugu State:

The Nsukka Zone (Enugu North Senatorial District), comprising key local government areas such as Nsukka, Igbo-Eze North, Igbo-Eze South, Udenu, Igbo-Etiti, and Uzo-Uwani, with a sister Isi Uzo Local Government Area carved into Enugu East senatorial district, holds the highest voting population in Enugu State.

It has long been the political nerve center of the Enugu North Senatorial District and a strategic determinant of electoral outcomes in the state. By nominating a minister from this zone, President Tinubu would be acknowledging a region that will not only show confidence in his candidacy but also has the political weight to influence the broader Southeast electorate.

    Strengthening Political Partnership:

Politics thrives on reciprocity. The Nsukka Zone’s increasing dominance in the APC, despite being in a traditionally opposition-dominated region, demonstrates political courage and loyalty. Rewarding such commitment with a ministerial position would send a clear message that President Tinubu values loyalty, fairness, and regional balance. This move would further energize APC supporters in Enugu State and attract undecided voters across the Southeast ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Balancing Regional Representation and National Integration:

In line with the federal character principle, equitable representation from all parts of the federation enhances national unity. The Southeast region, though still building a stronger presence in the APC, deserves inclusive participation at the highest level of governance. A ministerial appointment from the Nsukka Zone would not only balance the power equation in Enugu State but also promote inclusivity and give the people of the zone a sense of belonging in the Tinubu administration.

    Economic and Developmental Justification:

The Nsukka Zone has vast agricultural potential, abundant human capital, and a growing youth population yearning for federal presence and economic opportunities. With the right ministerial representation, the zone could serve as a launchpad for federal agricultural initiatives, educational reform, and infrastructural development in the Southeast. Such visible impact would translate into greater political goodwill for President Tinubu’s government.

Strategic Political Gains Ahead of 2027:

Looking toward the 2027 presidential election, appointing a minister from Nsukka would be a masterstroke for consolidating APC’s foothold in Enugu and the wider Southeast. It would demonstrate that Tinubu’s government rewards and strengthens alliances, and builds trust beyond partisan lines.

    Conclusion

President Tinubu’s administration stands at a pivotal point where strategic political decisions can define its long-term success. Recognizing and empowering the Nsukka Zone through a ministerial appointment would not strengthen alliances but also broaden the APC’s appeal in the Southeast.

It is a move that aligns with the President’s vision of inclusivity, equity, and national unity— and one that would significantly strengthen his victory prospects in Enugu State come 2027.

  • Christian genocide and the conspiracy against Nigeria

Christian genocide and the conspiracy against Nigeria

    By Femi Fani-Kayode

I listened attentively to the words of

@billmaher & @CNN’s @VanJones68 who have both accused Nigeria of indulging in “Christian genocide” and pondered on them deeply.

If, as a Nigerian, their words and narrative do not concern you or scare you then, as @realDonaldTrump would say, you cannot be a very bright bulb.

When one adds their words to the recent contribution of @SenTedCruz, the greatest defender of Israel and advocate of ‘Christian Zionism’ in the American Senate, where he accused Nigeria of the same and where he said that he was introducing a Bill in the  Senate to do “something about it” and “protect Christians in Nigeria” then you will get an even clearer picture of what is unfolding and the horrendous agenda those behind it have in store for us.

To add to that is the alarming resolution, passed two days ago, by the Canadian Parliament that Nigeria is one of the most dangerous places in the world for Christians to live and that Christians are targetted and slaughtered here all over the country on a daily basis.

The first question that needs to be answered is since when have the Americans and the West generally cared about anyone but themselves, least of all the Christians in our country.

How come they have suddenly started mouthing this fake battle cry and how come the same rhetoric is suddenly coming out of places like the Canadian Parliament and other western capitals?

The sooner those in power in Nigeria and the Nigerian people themselves get a clear grasp of what is really going on the better.

More importantly we need to do something to counter the narrative and we need to do it fast. This is because it is spreading like wildfire all over the world and sadly people are buying into it.

The truth is that the Americans,  their allies and their local collaborators are carefully and craftily preparing the ground for a religious war in our country and they want us to tear ourselves apart.

There can be no doubt that Christians have been targetted and killed in Nigeria in huge numbers by Islamist terrorists, whether they be Boko Haram or ISWAP, over the last 14 years but it is also a fact that as many Muslims have been targetted and killed by the same Islamist terrorists over the same period of time.

There are two points that need to be made and properly understood.

Firstly the terrorists that have plagued our nation and slaughtered our people, both Christian and Muslim, for the last 14 years were established, armed, funded and protected by the very same Americans and their western and Israeli allies that are crying more than the bereaved today.

Worse still they refused to sell arms to us or allow us to buy arms from anywhere in our attempt to resist the terrorists ourselves. Remember that?

They even refused to designate Boko Haram as a terrorist organisation for many years and did not do so until it suited their purpose.

The second point to grasp is that the reason that they are now all talking about Nigeria and what they have labelled as “Christian genocide” is not because they love Nigeria or care about Nigerian Christians but because they want to shift the world’s attention away from Gaza and focus it on Nigeria.

They also want to punish us for  taking a bold stand at the United Nations against the genocide that the Israelis have unleashed on Gaza which they are supporting and funding.

Standing up for humanity: that is our “crime” and I for one, as a Nigerian, make no apology for it.

In my view it was indeed our proudest moment and finest hour when our Vice President stood before the world at the United Nations and boldly proclaimed that we were against the genocide that was being unleashed on the Palestinian people, condemned what was going on in Gaza and insisted on a two state solution to resolve the conflict.

Unlike others we did not sit on the fence or buckle and sadly we are now paying the price for it.

This is the reason for their sudden venom, subversion and malice and we must not for one moment think otherwise or delude ourselves into believing that they really care.

Let me be clear: there is nothing wrong with them wanting to help our country fight the terrorists and neither is there anything wrong in them showing concern.

As a matter of fact that would be a welcome development.

What is wrong and unacceptable is the false narrative that they are peddling that it is Christians alone that are being killed.

Read Also: From frustration to innovation: How phone call challenges abroad inspired birth of Nigeria’s first travel eSim

The question that needs to be answered is why is it being framed in this way?

Yes Christian lives matter but do Muslim ones not matter too? If we are counting Christian bodies should we not count Muslim ones too?

If they had said that terrorists were killing Nigerians of all faiths their concern would have been welcome.

But when they say only Christians are being killed and they are attempting to stir up the hearts and souls of Christians from all over the world to unleash a crusade on us in the name of defending Nigerian Christians that gives cause for concern and the perpetuation and sustenance of such a wicked and distorted narrative and agenda which will not end well for our country.

As a matter of fact it would tear us apart, swell the ranks of Boko Haram and ISWAP, alienate the Muslim population in our country, divide our ranks, encourage more violence and conflict, exacerbate both religious and ethnic tensions and eventually lead to chaos and carnage in our nation the likes of which we have never seen before.

Brother will kill brother and we will end up fighting a never-ending civil war which is precisely what they want.

This is why this new-found rhetoric from the West is so dangerous.

We must join hands as Nigerians and re-emphasise our unity, our plurality of faith and our pride in our nation and we must resist this insidious attempt to divide us with a false narrative that, if we do not manage carefully, will push us over the cliff.

If there was a Christian genocide going on in Nigeria I would be the first to expose, oppose, resist and fight against it because my faith is EVERYTHING to me.

The reality is that it is not a Christian genocide that is going on in our country but rather a genocide against all Nigerians, both Christian and Muslim, and it is being perpetuated by a heinous, evil ISIS-inspired and Al Qaeda-like group of barbaric and savage terrorists and criminals that take pleasure in killing people of all faiths.

They do not represent Muslims but rather satan. And in other countries that have been afflicted in a similar way both Muslims and Christians have joined forces to fight them.

That is what we need to do here and we must not allow the Americans or anyone else to divide our ranks and make us think otherwise.

We cannot win the war against terror by turning on ourselves.

We welcome the concern of our detractors but we reject their false narrative and their attempt to divide and destroy us.

Permit me to end this contribution with the following.

A number of years ago I was amongst those that erroneously believed that only Christians were being targetted and subjected to genocide by the terrorists in Nigeria.

This was the case until 2020 when I went on a tour of the North West and North East and discovered that as many, if not more, Muslims and Muslim communities had been targetted and subjected to mass murder, ethnic cleansing and genocide as the Christian ones in that area.

What I witnessed in Zamfara, Sokoto, Katsina, Kaduna, Yobe, Borno, Bauchi, Adamawa, Gombe and other parts of the majority Muslim core North shocked and shattered me and constrained me to accept the assertion that this was not an onslaught against Christians and Christian communities alone but rather an attack on Nigerians of every faith.

And it is the same in the Middle Belt where these evil demon-possesed barbarians are targetting and slaughtering Christians and Muslims in equal measure.

For example I discovered that they attacked Niger, Kwara, Nassarawa and Kogi states and their predominantly Muslim communities as much and as frequently as they attacked Benue, Plateau and Taraba which are predominantly Christian states.

From the day I came to appreciate all this I took an oath before God and man that I would speak out against the atrocities being perpetuated against not just Christians but also Muslims.

I also accepted the fact that to do anything other than that would not only be inherently intellectually dishonest but also would add to the problem and make it worse rather than solve it.

The sooner we accept the fact that we are all victims of the same evil and heartless beasts the better it will be for us all.

What we must never do is accept the bogus narrative or harbor the perfidious notion that the West is trying to establish that only Christians are being killed in our country.

As Christians we are, after all, meant to be our brothers keeper and as human beings we are meant to feel the same degree of pain and I daresay shame when either innocent and defenceless Christian or Muslim men, women and children are murdered in cold blood in our shores.

When the barbarians drop their bombs, wield their machetes, fire their RPG’s and shoot their AK47’s they do not ask their victims what faith they belong to.

The notion that they do is as asinine and far-fetched as it is ignorant and mischevous.

Beasts don’t care whether you are Christian or Muslim when they knock at your door: they only care about spilling your blood and taking your life.

May God guide us all, may He grant us peace and may He bless, defend and protect the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

    (FFK)
