  • His landmark and Your Hallmark

    His landmark and Your Hallmark

    Venerable Henry Adelegan

Text: “Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.” – Proverbs 22:28

MY father was behind the wheels with my mother beside her as they were taking me to Ibadan 45 years ago to resume secondary school as a boarding student. I sat quietly at the back of the car thinking about my provisions in the boot  and the unknown years that laid ahead of me at Ibadan. Suddenly, my mother began to counsel me and what made me burst into laughter was when she said, “Henry, remember the son of whom you are”. I burst into laughter because I took that counsel in its literal form for I knew who my father was. Without explaining, she kept on repeating herself for the message to sink into my babyish skull. What she meant however was that, I must never forget our family values and not deviate from our ancient landmark of good behavioral conduct as I was about to leave the latitude of my parental control.

The Bible emphasizes the import of adhering to God’s set pattern, which is a prelude to enjoying His benefits, as nothing comes ala carte, or without a cost. There is a price to be paid for every benefit. It is compliance with His set standard through right behavioral conduct that opens the gateway to His blessings (cf Deut 28:1,2,15; Isaiah 1:19,20). Any deviation from His rules incurs His wrath, His anger and curses. One challenge that had bedeviled the human creation from the beginning had been obstinacy and disobedience. In Jeremiah 6:16, God instructed people of Israel to “…Stand you in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and you shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.” – what an irony!

God has a pattern for Christian life and living in every area of our lives ; marriage, business, parenting, friendship and our general conduct, as stipulated in His Holy books; and, any deviation from it incurs His wrath and manifests in challenges that cuts across the board and world. Your body, for instance, does not belong to you: it is His temple. Paul told the Corinthians in 1 Corinthians 6:19 that, “… know you not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which you have of God, and you are not your own?”. He explained it further in 1 Corinthians 3:17 that, “If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple you are”. As children of God, your body does not belong to you. You are not supposed to distort His pattern and change the color of your skin, add to your body features, expose areas that are supposed to be covered, make your underwear your outerwear or wear torn pants in the name of fashion , neither are you expected to indulge in immoral sexual pleasures, drunkenness and carnal works because there are severe consequences for it now and more in the future.

His pattern for the prosperity and long life of any person has been set as instructed in Ephesians 6:2,3 that “Honor your father and mother, which is the first commandment with a promise so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth”. While it is good to honor your alma mater, bless your society, be of importance to your club and assist your church, what will elongate your life and enlarge the scope of your influence is honoring your parents. Anything to the contrary is a distortion of set pattern by the Owner of life. A wife who is not submissive to her husband also and fails to accord “her own husband” respect (Ephesians 5:23), as enjoined in His commandment and disrespects him at will, rubbishes him impulsively and manifests pride because of the privilege of earthly things that shall expire has distorted set marital pattern. If you are doing that, you will hinder yourself from the experience and enjoyment of a marriage of eternal value as promised by God but will have a short tenor-bound cohabitation.

When a man does not love his wife, buying property only in his name and nothing in the name of the wife, not going out of his way to make her more comfortable and happy, talks anyhow to her, not protective of her, rubbishes her openly, does not take exceptional care of her, the pattern of the Lord has been distorted. The Originator of marriage said that, “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for her. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself”. When you refuse to be sacrificial, in tandem with His landmark, you will have a house and not a home, and your prayers will not be answered (1 Peter 3:7)

Beloved in Christ, God places very high premium on His landmark as a prelude to your hallmark achievement and celebration. Whenever landmark is altered or His pattern distorted, He transfers His promises to another person. Saul was an example of a person who altered His pattern. God therefore sent Samuel to him that, “…The Lord has rent the kingdom of Israel from you this day, and has given it to a neighbor of yours, that is better than thou” (1 Samuel 15:28 cf Acts 1:24-26). His pattern distortion could also lead to kingdom termination or sudden death. Uzzah was a bad example of a man that was struck down by God when he took hold of the ark of God because the oxen stumbled. The Lord’s anger burned against him “because of his irreverent act” ( 2 Samuel 6:6-7)

Beloved in Christ, Jesus is calling you at this time of Lent to consider and amend your ways (Haggai 1:5). Are there areas where you are contravening or upsetting His set landmarks? Have you been disobedient to His laws and following your own ways? Please return to Him and ask Him to forgive you. He will restore you to Himself, revive all that rightly belongs to you as His child and a time of refreshing shall come for you.

Prayer: Oh Lord, bring me back to your ancient landmarks, give me grace to walk therein and restore my hallmark in the name of Jesus.

‘COVID-19 will disappear same way it came’

    By Sunday Oguntola

General Overseer of Royal Place Ministries International Texas, United States, Bishop Blessing Samuel, has assured that the coronavirus pandemic will disappear just as suddenly as it emerged.

He appealed to Christians not to lose hearts but trust God to see them through.

He asserted that what the world is going through is a trying time though difficult to bear for everyone all over the world, stating that faith rather than fear should be the watchword.

Bishop Samuel assured there is hope in the hopeless situation, declaring the development is not the end of the world.

“This is just a trying time. Coronavirus is not just a virus, it is a demon trying to kill our faith and also close churches but God will fight for His people. This viral virus will soon disappear the same way it came,” he reiterated.

The cleric advised everyone to take preventive measures, stating even “doctors and scientists may be confused but God is not confuse, help is on the way.”

He added: “I believe strongly that the demon has been destroyed and solutions shall be found quicker than the doctors anticipated.

“Stay safe and be prayerful, having faith in God to see us through. I encourage all Nigerians, religious bodies and everyone in the world not to ignore the laws and instructions of the government. Also to join hands in the mission to rescue the nation system from collapsing.’’

    Baptist conference suspends church services

    Our Reporter

THE Lagos West Baptist Conference has suspended services in all its affiliate churches.

The move, according to its President, Rev (Dr) Sam Oladiran, in a memo to church leaders, was to comply with Lagos State Government directive and ensure safety of worshippers during the coronavirus pandemic.

“We appeal to our churches to please close down the building for seven days. We need to do this for the safety of our members,” Oladiran said.

He urged churches to utilise the house fellowship centres for services with five families, not exceeding 20 members meeting in selected centres.

  • ‘It’s annoying to say Christians are not persecuted’

‘It’s annoying to say Christians are not persecuted’

Founder of the Para-Mallam Peace Foundation, The Rev Gideon Para-Mallam, spoke with Sunday Oguntola on the coronavirus epidemic, Leah Sharibu and persecution of Christians in the north. Excerpts:

Isn’t it time churches nationwide shut down services in the face of the coronavirus epidemic?

There is need for much carefulness in handling this challenge. Therefore, in the face of the coronavirus spread, it is important for the Church in Africa, especially Nigeria to be proactive rather than reactive in taking measures to contain its spread.

Measures are needed and I think that is what the focus should be not shut downs. Having said that, we live today in a way in the digital age and so exploring all possibilities to hold Church services and fellowships abound, especially for those with significant education. The main concern in exploring the digital option would be the majority of Church goers who live in the rural areas and villages.

But back to your specific question in the area of remedial strategy, I would suggest the following: (a) Meetings in small groups of twos and threes, (b) house fellowship meetings, this time in family unites and two to three families at the most, (c) Online telecasts services – almost everywhere in this country there are television facilities – such should be per household and not like to football viewing centres which are crowded. The idea is to guard against crowd pulling events.

Any church member who exhibits symptoms of the corona virus should immediately be self-quarantined or be quarantined while the medical authorities are alerted immediately.

There should be nothing like taking such a person to the Church or Pastor or Elder for prayer. Your prayer can go anywhere is truly Holy Spirit led and guided. No barriers to our prayer.

Is it fear or lack of faith for Christians to avoid public gatherings, including services?

The question of fear or lack of faith in this issue does not arise at all. Avoiding public and social gathering is rather wisdom and an act of faith also rather than fear. Talking about fear in this case is the usual spiritualisation of things by Nigerian Christians.

Faith and common-sense reasoning sometimes are always mutually exclusive. You do not jump on to a rushing traffic just to prove a point that after all when you get knocked down then a prayer of faith will heal you from any broken bones.

Jesus applied common sense in the way He lived and remember He is the author and finisher of our faith. Never forget that when Church started at the beginning, it was not predicated on large public gatherings, no it was in small house fellowships.

Jesus himself said ‘where two or three of you are gathered in my name, I am there in your midst.’ Let’s be guided by Scripture. When this season is over, things will normalised but it also poses a question which should propel us into the future. How really should Church be run in Nigeria?

Developments in the world are changing and redefining everything we do including traditional office work etc. There is the work from home WFH emergence. The Church needs to be open to learn new ways of doing things.

In some of the most persecuted contexts of the world, let’s ask ourselves how did Churches run then? Think of the Church in Ethiopia under the communist dictatorship of Mengitsu and in communist countries of the former Soviet Union (USSR) and Eastern Europe?

You were recently in London with Leah Sharibu’s mother. Do you believe all hope is not lost on her rescue or return home?

I commend the efforts of Leah’s mother Rebecca Sharibu, who despite her pain and emotional turmoil, was still able to travel to the US and the UK to appeal for the release of their daughter.

Those trips have been planned with the Leah Sharibu Foundation and we are working in partnership to see Leah freed from captivity. The Para-Mallam Peace Foundation is very active in advocating for Leah’s release and we have been to both the US and UK also working in partnership.

Dr. Gloria Puldu, who heads the Leah Sharibu Foundation, went with her to both countries. While they were in the UK recently, we collaborated with another group in the UK to encourage prayer and awareness on the issues.

It is high time Christians and Muslims unite and cry out against all forms of social injustice and deprivations meted out to our citizens by all sorts of terrorist and militant groups.

As to whether we should not lose heart, the answer is a capital YES!! Why loose heart and hope? In a video appeal interview I granted to the Netherlands based Open Doors International to mark Leah Sharibu’s 2nd anniversary in captivity, I spoke about hope and faith. I still believe that one day Leah will be out by the grace of God.

The Sultan recently said reports of persecution of Christians in the north were false. What’s your take on this?

I have the highest respects for the Sultan in our brief personal encounters and in public functions, he has impressed me personally. However, I disagree with him when it comes to this question of the persecution of Christians in the north.

It is even more painful for me to read on the pages of newspapers the esteemed leader of the Muslim Ummah saying such. I want to state categorically that it is false to deny the persecution of Christians in Nigeria today and especially in Northern Nigeria.

Christians must not be made double victims in their own country. They are persecuted and the proof abounds. For over three decades now, physical attacks have been meted out to Christians in Nigeria. They started in full force in Kaduna and Zaria as a fall out of the Kafanchan ethno-religious crises of 1987. Hundreds of Christians were killed and almost all the Churches were burnt down.

The then Military President Ibrahim Babangida described it as an equivalent of civilian coup d’état.  Since 1987, such frontal attacks have continued unabated with impunity. Gideon Alaluka was beheaded in Kano; Mrs. Bridget Agbamin was killed by mob action – clearly because of her religious identity. Her husband is still alive if anyone cares to hear the full background of what happened. What about the Reinhard Bonnke crises in Kano in 1991?

Christians killed Churches burnt down. Then the systemic persecution, which is more subtle, is always there. So many incontrovertible evidences and yet Christians are being put in the defence?  Such callous intellectual denial is part of the tragedy of Nigeria. Today Christians are targeted and killed.

The Sharia crises are further proof. Around Easter in April 2012, gunmen burst into on-going Christian worship services at Bayero University Kano and about 40 Christian worshippers were killed – what name will the Sultan call that?

Does the Sultan have any iota of sympathy in his heart for these many Christians brutally murdered in Nigeria by rampaging Muslim attackers? With the talk about NIREC inter-religious dialogue supposedly going on and we have such denials dished out to the public?

How does the Sultan help promote such dialogues in all honesty? Government denies, a key Muslim leader denies, one is tempted to ask are they co-travellers in this journey of denial?

One must also give it to the government who recently admitted that Boko Haram has changed tactics and is now targeting Christians. That represents truth telling and the beginning of admitting what has been the obvious.

Is this coronavirus epidemic from God or the devil?

It is very interesting to even suggest such notions by asking if this coronavirus is from God or the devil. We may also ask if Ebola was from God or the devil and similarly ask if HIV and AIDS was from God or the devil.

Our degenerative human nature of sin and the pollution of the environment have combined to complicate the cosmos and climate. Things aren’t as straight forward anymore and the consequences of sin most severed on God’s creation: both human and the environment.

  • Engaging the unlimited power of faith for settlement!

Engaging the unlimited power of faith for settlement!

    Bishop David Oyedepo

WELCOME to the concluding part of this teaching! I hope you were blessed by last week teaching. This week, we shall focus on: Engaging the Unlimited Power of Faith for Settlement!

It is important to know that our settlement as believers is crucial to God. That’s why the

Bible says, But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you (1

    Peter 5:10).  From scriptures, we understand that every prophetic Word from God is designed for fulfilment. As it is written, And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord (Luke 1:45). This is because prophecies are not psychological predictions, but the unveiling of divine plans. We must understand that God speaks according to His resources and not our scarcity. He speaks according to His integrity and not our fallibility. He also speaks according to His size and His unlimited capacity to make it happen (Isaiah 55:11; Numbers 23:19; Deuteronomy 18:22;

Haggai 2:8; Psalm 50:9-11). In addition, it is important to know that only God’s hand can perform whatever He says. However, without our faith, we cannot take delivery. It is written, The Lord of hosts hath sworn, saying, Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand (Isaiah 14:24).

    What Then, Is Faith?

    • Faith Is The Master Key To A World Of Unlimited Possibilities: Jesus said to Martha, Lazarus’ sister, ‘…If thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?’ Thereafter, He resurrected Lazarus, who was dead and buried for four days (John 11:40; Mark 9:23). It means that through faith, we possess the ability to do the things that only God can do (John 14:12). However, we must understand that it is our level of faith that determines our level of command on earth.
    • Faith Is A Spiritual Engraftment Of Humanity Into Divinity Thereby Commanding Supernatural Feats: For instance, when the woman with the issue of blood grafted herself to Jesus Christ through her faith, she tapped into His virtue and the flow of blood ceased. Similarly, when we engage our faith, we are grafted into God and become partakers of His divine nature, thereby commanding divine authority over the issues of life (Romans 11:19-23).

We must recognise that the Bible is a book of covenants and God’s covenant with man in scriptures is binding as long as the earth remains (Jeremiah 33:20-22; Psalm 89:34). However, we must understand that it is our faith in the settled Word of God that guarantees our settlement in life (1 Peter 5:8-10; Psalm 119:89).

Having established that faith is the covenant force that guarantees our settlement, we must also know that God’s covenant is based on well defined terms and sealed with an oath to deliver. As such, we must believe and engage these terms to commit God’s integrity to perform (Isaiah 34:16).

What Are The Terms Of The Covenant Of Settlement?

    • We Must Fully Return To God: Until we return to our covenant walk with God, it is not our turn to be settled (Malachi 3:7). For instance, life was a miserable adventure for the prodigal son until he returned. When he did, he was settled and his dignity was restored. Also, until Judah returned in the days of king Asa, she was not settled. However, upon return, God gave Judah all-round rest (Luke 15:17-24; 2Chronicles 15:3-6; 11-15). In addition, we must understand that being away from God is a curse (Psalm 16:4). This is because we serve a jealous God, Who cannot stand double dealings (Exodus 34:13; James 1:6-8).
    • We Must Be Planted In The House Of The Lord: Zion is the Church of Christ and our covenant place of settlement (Obadiah 1:17; Hebrews 12:22-24; Psalm 84:4-7; 132:13-18). Again, when we are planted in the house of God, we are ordained to flourish in all areas. However, it is important to note that God has an appointed place of worship for every believer and until we locate and abide there, our settlement is not guaranteed (Psalm 92:12-15; 2 Samuel 7:10; Deuteronomy 12:13-14).
    • We Must Make A Covenant To Serve God: Serving God indeed and in truth commits Him to our settlement. It is when we serve God and the interest of His Kingdom that He adds to us what others are dying to get (Matthew 6:33; 2 Chronicles 15:1-4, 12-15; Joshua 24:15; Deuteronomy 30:19; Exodus 23:25-26; Job 36:11). Remember, only workers are entitled to wages. Therefore, we should not just watch others serve God but engage wholeheartedly and excitedly in Kingdom service, and watch God deliver our settlement testimonies (Matthew 10:10; Luke 10:7; 1 Timothy 5: 18).
    • We Must Pray For Our Desired Settlement As Men And Women Did In Bible Days: From several scriptural references, we understand that God established the altar of prayer as the altar of settlement. For instance, when Jacob, Jabez, Hannah, Blind Bartimaeus and the Canaanite Woman prayed in faith for their settlement, the Bible says that God heard and settled them immediately. This simply means that we are only entitled to receive what we ask for in faith (James 4:2; Genesis 32:24-28; 1 Chronicles 4:9-10; 1 Samuel 1:13-19; Mark 10:46-52; Matthew 15:13-28).
    • Raise An Altar Of Sacrifice: We can also enforce our settlement by rearing an altar of sacrifice as prompted by the Spirit of God. For instance, when Noah offered a sacrifice to God after the flood, God averted the curse and settled humanity. Again, when David reared an altar of sacrifice as instructed by God, the plague ceased (Psalm 126:1-6; Genesis 8:20-22; 2 Samuel 24:18-25). Therefore, whenever we receive a prompting of the Holy Spirit to rear an altar of sacrifice, we should dive into it in faith, because therein lies our settlement.

In conclusion, God has an agenda of settlement for us but without our faith, we can never access it; and faith cannot be exercised unless we are born again. Are you born again? If you are not, this is an opportunity to do so. Simply say the following prayer: Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me of my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. Today, I accept You as my Lord and personal Saviour. Thank You, Jesus, for saving me! Now, I know I am born again! Appoint dependable marriage counselors, cleric tells church leaders

     Adeola Ogunlade

WIFE of the Assistant Pastor in Charge of Lagos Province 44, Corporate Social Responsibility of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Pastor Mrs. Adebisi Opeoluwa-Caleb has appealed to

church leaders to train and appoint dependable and god- fearing marriage counselors to help singles prepare holistically for their marriage.

Opeoluwa- Caleb said this in an interview with The Nation at the Couples Hangout and Dinner organised by RCCG, The Charis Centre, Lagos recently in Lagos.

She lamented that many marriages within their early years are failing, making many singles not to be prepared spiritually, physically, emotionally, psychologically for marital success.

She noted the needs for well trained and reliable marriage counselors in places of worship so that together they can approach marriage prayerfully, patiently and with all honesty.

She said premarital counseling helps intending couples improve their ability to communicate, set realistic expectations for marriage and develop conflict-resolution skills.

She noted that the family is the basic unit of the society established by God and the last things that the devil is fighting knowing fully well that a stable home is a threat to his Kingdom.

Opeoluwa-Caleb added that the devil is really out against Christian homes “because he knows that if the home is not settled, it is going to affect everything, the children, prayer life of the couple and oneness that God desires for the home.”

She lamented that there are lots of Christian couples have hidden secrets, which have given the devil incursion into their homes.

“Christian couples should come together as one and oneness should not only be in bed but in everything, including finance, planning and taking decision together and the home will be a better place”, she said.

Assistant Province Pastor in Charge of Youth, Province 2, Pastor (Mrs.) Ifeoma Obaro, called for forgiveness and love among couples as love covers multitude of sin.

She bemoaned the increasing cases of attempted suicide and domestic violence among couples, attributing them to bitterness and hatred in the heart which should be addressed critically.

She challenged married couples to seek help from faithful men of God, professional therapists and psychologists.

FOTA cancels Cross Concert 5 over COVID 19

    Our Reporter

THE Foundation of Truth Assembly (FOTA) has announced cancellation of the fifth edition of its annual concert tagged Cross Concert.

The yearly concert is one of the largest gatherings of Christians from Nigeria and beyond for praise and worship to celebrate events marking Easter.

In a statement by the convener, Rev Yomi Kasali, who is Senior Pastor of FOTA, noted that the cancellation of Cross Concert 5 had been necessitated by public health concerns.

It reads: “In view of the global outbreak of Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and its potential to pose communal health risks in large gatherings, the Foundation of Truth Assembly (FOTA) leadership hereby notifies all stakeholders and the general public, that we have cancelled this year’s Cross Concert which was earlier planned for Easter Monday.

“As a socially responsible organisation, we value lives of our guests and support the efforts being made by the government as well as other entities towards promoting public health, especially in such a time as this. It is in response to this that we made the difficult decision of cancelling the annual cross concert.

“We will however continue with the overarching vision of the Cross Campaign that seeks to remind believers about the cross of Jesus Christ as the essence of our Christian faith and a reference point for the salvation of souls, irrespective of affiliations and denominations.

Coronavirus symbolises God’s anger – Cleric

    Our Reporter

THE outbreak of coronavirus is a direct message from God to the world to return to Him, Senior Pastor of Awaiting The Second Coming of Jesus Christ, Adewale Giwa, has stated.

Declaring that the pandemic is beyond the human imagination, Giwa advised people to seek for forgiveness from God.

He said the current situation could be compared to the days of biblical Noah where God destroyed the earth with a flood.

The cleric specifically said the world had neglected God, stressing: “I can understand this kind of anger displaying by God.

“This is a warning sign to us to repent and turn to God. This situation tells unbelievers now to know that God created and owns the world; it started like a joke but see what has become.

“The world will get over this but we need to serve God diligently. This disease has made the people to run helter skelter.

“Pastors have disappointed God. The religious leaders no longer seek God but money.

“God is angry at us, and only the righteous can be saved. Let us examine ourselves. This is a period of sober reflection.”

He however stated the epidemic will not affect genuine Christians.

“That Coronavirus is not meant for true Christians. A thousand will fall at your side and ten thousand at your right side but, it will not come near you. Only with your eyes shall you see the reward of the wicked,” he began.

“Devil is trying to steal our faith and he wants us to believe something other than God’s Word.  As true Christians, we must hold on to our faith in God.

“Coronavirus is part of the diseases recorded in the book of Revelation to remind us to start packing our stuffs and preparing for the coming of Jesus Christ.

“We don’t need to be afraid. Rather, we need to hold on to God and do what is right by God.”

LENTEN MESSAGE: Ignore them. You shall get there!

    Venerable Henry Adelegan

Text:”…Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men” (John 2:24)

Once upon a time there were a bunch of tiny frogs who arranged a running competition.  The goal was to reach the top of a very high tower. A big crowd had gathered around the tower to see the race and cheer on the contestants. The race began and in all honesty no one in the crowd really believed that the tiny frogs would reach the top of the tower. Consequently, the audience started to make comments such as,  “Oh, its a difficult assignment”, “They will never make it to the top”, “Not a chance that they will succeed. The tower is too high!” and ” Get down or you will fall and die!!”

Quite prophetically, the tiny frogs began collapsing one after the other except for those, who in a fresh tempo, were climbing higher and higher. The crowd continued to yell, “It is too difficult!!! No one will make it!”. Unfortunately, more tiny frogs got tired and gave up but alas one continued higher and higher and higher. The last frog refused to be daunted by the comments of the audience and eventually reached the top. Then all of the other tiny frogs naturally wanted to know how this one frog managed to do it? A contestant therefore asked the tiny frog how he had found the strength to succeed and reach the goal and he replied him, “what did you say?”. It turned out that the winner frog was deaf and consequently didn’t hear the negative yell of the audience which facilitated the failing and falling of the other contestants. On his own, he assumed that they were encouraging him to continue.

Like the frogs’ experience, it is habitual and normal but unfortunate for people to speak idle words of support, shower fake praises and exhibit false comradeship to the fortunate that wields power but to turn back to malign, destroy and peddle damaging reports when a person is either out of political reckoning, struggling to achieve a seemingly impossible feat or afflicted by an ailment. Beloved, it is a truism of life that when things are good, your friends will know you but when things are bad, you will know your friends. To succeed in this world therefore, partnership with the Holy Spirit alone for leading, counsel and guidance is very principal (Psalm 40:4; 84:5; 128:1 John14:26, 1 Cor.2:10-11; 2 Cor. 3:17). Trust or dependence on man is many times shallow, deceitful, unreliable and undependable.

Jesus Christ had a similar experience at Jerusalem when He entered the temple and found “….those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting: And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers’ money, and overthrew the tables (John 2:14-15). Against this background, many believed in Him because of the miracles which He did. But, Jesus Christ did not commit Himself to them because He knew what was in man. Beloved in Christ, for you to get to where God has destined for you, you need to know and follow only the voice of the Holy Spirit (Hosea 4:6; Isaiah 5:13; Philippians 3:10) and be deaf to the “musicians’ praise notes” or the pessimistic cum defeatist counsel of your advisers.

Blind Bartimaeus, according to Mark 10:46-52, was not only blind but he assumed the position of deafness too when he heard that Jesus Christ was passing by. The people shouted him down when he cried out “Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me”; instead of heeding to their counsel, he shouted yet again but this time like that frog, he cried the more. It was that position of deafness that made Jesus Christ to stand still for him, asked him to come and healed him.

Have you been informed that you will never make it in life? Are people saying that there is no hope for you to move to that great height or that you have gone past the age of marriage or conception? Has someone lied to you that you are unfortunate or that your case is beyond redemption? Are you being shouted down by some people around as a result of a disability, meagre income, poor educational pedigree or low position at work or commission? Are people using your today to judge your tomorrow? Are people ganging up to pull you down, demean or run you down? Like that frog you must be deaf to their comments and remain focused on Jesus Christ, who is the author and finisher of your faith (Hebrew 12:2). You must also ensure that you are not discouraged by their talks because all powers are in the hands of the Almighty God (Psalm 62:11), no person has the final say but Him (Lamentations 3:37) and will surely raise you up at His appointed time (Habakkuk 2:3; Ecclesiastes 3:1).

The Almighty God who turned things around for Sarah after she has gone past childbearing age, that destroyed the yoke of delay, that frustrated medical counsel and did what eyes had not seen, ears had not heard and the miracle that was yet to come to human understanding or imagination shall do same for you (cf Genesis 21:1-3; 1 Corinthians 2:9). It doesn’t matter how heavy or strong the embargo that had been placed on your life by powers of wickedness is, I have it on His authority that it shall be removed because it is not by power or might but by His Spirit (Zechariah 4:6); and where others are failing or have failed, you shall have a testimony of awesome experiences in the name of Jesus.

Jesus Christ shall stand still for during this lenten season of your rising glory, as He did for Bartimaeus, and all that have gathered to shut you up shall gather to announce your call. Besides that, all that are turning their backs on you now and yelling that nothing good can come from you shall return to attest to the reliability of your God (Isaiah 60:15). During this Lenten season, may the Holy Spirit continue to lead you in the right path and close your ears to flattering words that will put you into trouble and terrible words that will discourage you from the chosen path of honour and greatness, in Jesus’ name

Prayer: Father, give me grace to be open to leading of the Holy Spirit and be deaf to human praises, in Jesus’ name.
