‘Why Nigeria needs to wake up’

General Overseer of Calvary Kingdom Church (CKC) Lagos, Achbishop Joseph Ojo, speaks with Adeola Ogunlade on how Nigeria missed out and the palliative measures the church uses to accommodate indigent pupils/students. Excerpts:

We have had Vision 2000 and Vision 2020. But Nigerians are wondering what vision the nation is pursuing…

… I think my vision 2020 is Acts 20: 20. That’s my vision 2020, not government’s own. Like I was saying in one of my services here I think few weeks ago, People can’t understand it. The bible says “we are in the world but we are not of the world”.

Though we are here in Nigeria but the Central Bank Governor for us is in Heaven because our citizenship, the bible says, is in Heaven.

Acts 20:20 says: “How I hid nothing from you, but have declared unto you publicly from house to house.” That is my vision 2020. This year, we want to take the gospel from house to house. I am not waiting on government policy, their own is ‘chop, chop and chop’.

I have not seen a government that is sincere, including this one we are in now. I have not seen somebody that has come to serve, all of them put together, they are just coming to get.

Until you see somebody that has a policy, a 10-year vision that can really affect the generality of a population, then we can’t move forward as a nation.

My vision 2020 is Acts 20: 20. It says: “And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you…” I wish the government will not keep back what is profitable to the populace of this country.

Keeping it to themselves is not helpful. “I kept back nothing that is profitable unto you, but have shown you and have taught you publicly from house to house…

Your church is close to the land borders. What is your take on closure of land borders?

I think it has an advantage and disadvantage. The advantage is Nigerians should learn to manage what they have. If our country can produce enough rice and make it more tasteful, we won’t need imports.

I have tasted some Nigerian rice, you would want to throw up; it does not have taste and it is not like the Nigerian rice we ate in the 50’s and in the 60’s.

I was privilege to be a rice farmer way back in the 60s. I had rice farms. And the way it is being done now, I don’t know whether it is the chemical that they are using in production that makes it tasteless or they don’t learn from foreign rice producers.

So, positively, I think it will help us to look inwards. Until they build the in-house possibly also, it’s affecting the livelihood of the people.

Whether you like it or not, there are people that are surviving by it- whatever they get from there. So, they should be able to use wisdom to manage it so that people will not over tight their belt until they die. That’s my counsel. It’s good in a way; it is bad also in a way.

Is that a way to say Nigerians need to look inwards and let go of some of their foreign taste?

It is the same thing; we take all things with levity. That’s why today we are having problem in knowing our exact population. Because in other civilized places, they plus and minus.

They don’t do the census we do here often. They take data from hospitals because there is nobody born that his or her birth is not registered.

Read Also: Nigeria can plan economy without oil, says Agusto

There is no person that died that is not registered. When you calculate the number of death plus the number of birth, you add it to last year’s, you will know your population. But in Nigeria, every five year or so, we are doing census because we lack planning.

God someday, somehow will give us leaders who are reasonable and sensible enough that will not put money first but will put service first.

How come many church members cannot afford mission schools again today?

It is the perception of the outsiders; people who are not close, they think like that. You know from Genesis chapter 1, God made man with moral choice.

If I cannot choose, for example, a big university, I can choose the one I can afford. Most people when they see churches, they say it is the tithe and offering. Most times it is not true.

Like what I have here, 100 percent of this structure is my personal money, not church. But, members that are there, what we do is that we give them rebate.

If you are a member of this church and you have a child there, you pay less. If you are a member and you have three children there, you pay for two and you leave one.

Every one of these ministries has their different palliatives that they give to people but the outsiders will not see it. They don’t even understand that the people saying their penny is not in the church.

You have deacons, pastors, elders and when you bring record, their name is blank; they don’t pay anything. They are just there. And most of those people make a lot of noise like the saying that “an empty vessel makes the loudest noise”.

    Our Reporter

A faith-based health organisation, Relume Charitable Foundation in conjunction with the mission department of the Household of God Church, Lagos has provided free healthcare services provided to residents of Ikenne, Ogun State and its environs.

At the two-day event at the Obafemi Awolowo Square, aged and young residents received free medical attention.

Tagged: Health and education mission, the outreach featured blood pressure screening, vision screening, children vocation bible study, diabetes screening, distribution of medication, education of food nutrition and distribution of foodstuffs.

Over 50 residents had minor surgeries while some were referred to hospitals for major surgeries.

Chairman of the foundation, Dr Sunday Adeosun, said the initiative was to put an end to suffering from different kinds of ailment or diseases.

“This time, we are happy to do many surgeries. We gave out eye glasses to people, diagnosed people and gave them medications. People have benefited from this initiative over the years and the thing that has been igniting us to do more is by taking care of the health of the people.

“When we look around, we see a lot of people that need medical help and the only way we can help the society is by responding to their appeal for assistance.

“Despite the fact that we are out of Nigeria, we still see the need to come home and give back to the people irrespective of tribe or colour because this is the community that raised us to be where we are today.

“This community has supported us in a way and now, we are out there, we make a little bit, then we are here to give back to the people and that’s the important thing to do and help the next generation,” he said.

The Head of Mission, Household of God Church, Mr Lolu Ogunmade, said it was a great development to meet needs while spreading the gospel.

According to him: “For about six years now that we have been a blessing to people, especially the underprivileged across the length and breadth of Nigeria with Relume Foundation.

“The church has to give back to the society. We must actually demonstrate the activities of Jesus, especially as regards showing love to people in practical terms.

“We are happy to save the people of Ikenne community from various kinds of health challenges. The outcome of this exercise depicts the need for basic health services in the country.

“So, we are committed to doing our own part to alleviate the sufferings of the people and we are happy for the cooperation of the Ikenne people.”

President of the foundation, Professor Sheri Adeosun, said the gesture was based on what the foundation stood for.

“We are always interested in coming to the rescue of communities and people that are suffering from health challenges.

“We are happy in putting smiles on people’s faces and making their health problems become a thing of the past.

“Our outreach is about touching lives and it is really encouraging to see people coming out,” she said.

  • Cleric donates school to Lagos community

Cleric donates school to Lagos community

    By Charles Okonji

The Shepherd- in- Charge of Celestial Church of Christ Genesis World Lagos, Prophet Israel Ogundipe,  has donated a modern school he built to a community in Lagos,

Ogundipe, who made the donation as part of his birthday celebration in Lagos during the week, noted that he finds joy and happiness in making people laugh.

While stating that he is not God, the cleric said he is happy to share the little he has with people.

He recalled how he came across the idea to donate the school: “We just acquired two acres of land to the glory of God as we wanted to extend our church, but when I was ministering, some children over the fence were shouting “Genesis, we love you” so I started praying for them and I told them I will come and visit them, but after the service I went to visit the school, and realised that they were only sitting on the floor, no concrete no tiles.

“If it’s raining, the school will be flooded, no toilet, no blackboards, and so on. So we decided to start building the community school with the materials we have provided for the church building.

“This was what the Holy Spirit told me that we shouldn’t build our church or do anything until we complete that our public primary school because I asked them and they said it’s a community school but that all the children are finding it difficult pay tuition fee of N1000 per term, which is used for the payment of teachers.”

He added: “So for the nature of the school, I called on the church members that want to give birthday gift to me not to do so but convert it to money or building material for us achieve our purpose of rebuilding the community school and they supported massively, now we are at the finishing stage.

“So my passion is not about building churches over now, if we have branch anywhere, to the glory of God let us build school and donate it to the government or to the community, which is a way of giving back to the society, because when I was struggling  to look for people to help me, there was nobody. This is why I have chosen to make a change by building people and not churches.”

    Oladiyun urges Christians to unite

    By Adeola Ogunlade

The General Overseer of Christ the Living Apostolic Mandate (CLAM) Lagos, Apostle Wole Oladiyun, has called on church leaders to put aside their differences and work together toward the advancement of the Kingdom of God in Nigeria.

Oladiyun said this at the just- concluded 8th edition of the End Time General Ministers Conference at Vineyard Christian Ministry, Lagos.

The programme tagged God’s battle axe attracted church leaders from across the country and featured prayer, teachings and prophetic ministration.

He said: “We need to be together in purpose, not in doctrines. We may have our dogmas and styles but let us put them aside for the purpose of expanding the kingdom.”

He noted that Nigeria needs the voice of the church in the area of advocacy, industry, media.

“We need to take over agriculture and be in different parastatals and be part of the affairs of the nation because we are the light of the world,” he stressed.

Oladiyun argued the church needs to restore values that have been eroded in families, put people in governance and tell them about biblical advocacy and governance.

“We need to talk to people about biblical economic because everything is in the bible.

“We need to give people hope and be involved in humanitarian services in all the 774 local government. We need to have a united voice,” he said.

He noted the church was making great impact across all sectors in but stressed “we need to do more and make our impact count.

“God has given us the grace through the eyes of the Holy Spirit to do things right. We can normalise this country if we unite together (CAN and PFN).

“Let us put away our differences, there is no perfect man or perfect person but through the help of the Holy Spirit, we will move this nation forward,” Oladiyun said.

He appealed to Nigerians in part of the north who are going through the horror of terrorism not to give up hope.

He called for more support to people in Internally Displaced Camps (IDPs) across the north so that they get their lives back and lead a normal life.

Convener of the programme, Pastor Folake Adeyeye, said it was conceived to equip and raise generals as battle axe in the hands of God.

She said that if a nation refuses to recruit new army, they will submit to the enemies, noting that the old fathers in the faith are dying and need to deliberately pass on the batons for new generals so that the kingdom race can continue unhindered.

“Our generals are dying and the mantles need to be passed on. New generals need to be recruited and equipped by our fathers so that as they pass on to glory, the work of the kingdom,” she said.

Adeyeye challenged church leaders to be available for God’s use as the harvest for the end time mandate of soul winning is plenteous but the labourers are few.

“God is looking for generals, new vessels that are available to be used for his people. As many that are willing and available, God is ready to pour himself on them to go all over the world to impact lives, set the captive free and harvest souls for the kingdom,” she said.

  • Understanding the supremacy of faith!

    Understanding the supremacy of faith!

    By Dr. David Oyedepo

Welcome to another exciting week! I hope you were blessed by last week teaching. This week, we shall focus on: Understanding The Supremacy of Faith!

From scriptures, we discover that we engage in faith to tap into divine virtues, which in turn enhance our value. The Bible says, Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good report (Hebrews 11:1-2).

Also, our vision can never deliver beyond the level of faith we are operating in. Hence, the beauty and colour of every vision is a function of the quality of faith that is employed.

Therefore, without faith, our vision has no substance because it is faith that defines the substance of our vision. Every act of God in our lives is only realisable via faith and as long as our faith is on fire, we remain on flight and also in command of things happening around us.

Thus, it is to us according to our faith, not according to our vision (Matthew 9:29). So, if our faith is down, our life and destiny will be down.

What Then, Is The Supremacy Of Faith?

    • Faith Engages The Word For Performance: It engages the Word of God in order to enforce the delivery of our destiny and desires. The Bible records about Mary, …Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her (Luke 1:38).

Sometimes, it may not be convenient for us but if it is commanded, we must engage in it because that’s the only way to where we are going and it is what determines the happenings in our lives. That is what makes faith a vital force that gets the job done. As long as our faith is in place, we remain in command over the issues of life.

Faith Is A Spiritual Force: Faith is neither a psychological nor philosophical force; it is a spiritual force. It is not an intellectual issue either; it is a spiritual virtue that operates within the spirit of man not in his head.

As it is written, For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation (Romans 10:10). Thus, whatever is working contrary to our inheritance in Christ, faith can stop it instantly.

For instance, the woman with the issue of blood has her faith intact and her health was restored immediately (Mark 5:25-34).

Read Also: Engaging the breakthrough power of faith!

Faith Is A Spiritual Chemistry: It is the spiritual chemistry with which we quench the oppositions, clear obstacles and access our possessions. The Bible says, For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith (Mark 11:23). Every time faith is at work, a spiritual connection is established and that connection provokes the flow of virtue from God. That virtue flows to enhance our value.

Faith Is A Living Force: It is a living force, drawn from the living Word to produce living proofs. That woman drew from Jesus, the Living Word, and a living proof was produced.

Faith is not just believing that God can do something; it is being moved to do something to prove that we believe. When we are moved to act on what God commands, He is committed to perform.

So, faith is an act. For it is written, But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him (Hebrews 11:6).

Therefore, faith is the only way to move God in our direction and the only way to stop the devil from molesting us (Ephesians 6:16).

Faith Is Hard Work: Faith is no cheap talk, faith is hard work. It is written, For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief (Hebrews 4:10-11). It requires a form of labour.

We don’t wish for faith but work at faith. Faith does not answer to wishes, it answers to workings; that is working with the Word of God.

Whether it is conventional faith or supernatural faith, all forms of faith draw from our Word bank or reservoir. The things on our inside are what faith draws from; it has to be there before faith can draw. The Bible says: So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:17; see also 2 Peter 1:5).

Faith Is A Great Profession: Faith is no mere confession, it is a great profession. As it is written, Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; for he is faithful that promised (Hebrews 10:23). Profession here connotes definite skills. Thus, it requires skills to maximise its benefits (Hebrews 5:12-14).

In conclusion, faith is an asset of inestimable value, an unstoppable force which taps into the omnipotence of God, quenches all the fiery darts of the devil, answer to all satanic assaults and commits the integrity of divinity.

However, you cannot experience the supremacy of faith unless you are born again. Are you born again? If you are not, this is an opportunity to do so.

Simply say the following prayer: Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me of my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. Today, I accept You as my Lord and personal Saviour. Thank You, Jesus, for saving me! Now, I know I am born again! For further reading, please get my books: Unlimited Power of Faith, Exploits of Faith, Born to Win and Satan get Lost. • LENTEN MESSAGE: Consequences of Inconsequences

    LENTEN MESSAGE: Consequences of Inconsequences

    Venerable Henry Adelegan

Text:”Cast you bread upon the waters: for you shall find it after many days” Ecclesiastes 11:1

There are certain individuals that either, through sheer ignorance or pride of position in the society or the body of Christ, lose sight of the fact that power comes from God (Psalm 62:11) and that we shall all answer certain questions from Him at specific stages of our lives (Eccl. 12:14). If people placed in delegated and temporal position of authority were alive to this irrefutable fact, one would expect them to realise that occupied positions are offices of privileges and know that all blessings and endowments are by grace, and not works (1 Corinthians 15:10 cf 1 Corinthians 4:7). God does as it pleases Him. He can lift the last born who is not experienced and exposed to the top while the most educated is placed below.

Solomon, the wisest king to traverse this earth, from our text, made it abundantly clear that nothing is forgotten in life and that every act of pettiness or smallness has an aftermath. If you fire an arrow towards the sky thinking that the kings of the earth are oblivious of your deeds, nothing is hid from the sight of the all-seeing eyes of the Almighty (Psalm 139:7-12).

Newton, a distinguished physicist, confirmed this axiom in his third law of motion which states that “For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction”. This is suffice to say that for every incident, there was a sublime or obvious antecedent or before a concept is established, there must have been a precept.

There was an incident thousands of years ago when the leaders and worshippers in the temple of Jerusalem abused the sanctity of the temple, they abandoned the altar and were serving tables. When Jesus entered the city, He wept over Jerusalem (which incidentally was His second time of betraying such emotion). He wept here because of the pervasive ignorance of the people of Jerusalem. He wept because “the things which belong unto your peace but now they are hid from your eyes” (Luke 19:42).

He went further to open their spiritually blind eyes to the calamity that laid in wait for them following their “blindness”. He wept because the people of Israel “… have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.” (Jeremiah 2:13)

The disappointment and anger of our Lord Jesus Christ didn’t end there but was further ventilated on the temple and of course the leaders of worship. He was let down and upset because the temple of God which ought to be the platform to direct people to the majors of human existence had lost focus and revelling in the minors. Instead of the house of God to be a place for His Word and prayers, it had been turned into a house of Mammon, it had been reduced to a place of economic merchandising and spiritual trivialities.

The priests of the temple had abandoned spirituality for carnality and dropped the ethos of eternity for carnality. Jesus Christ was displeased, He turned their tables and chased them out.

Beloved in Christ, in view of the fact that Jesus Christ is ‘the same yesterday, today and for ever’ (Hebrews 13:8) and that He does not change (Malachi 3:6a), it therefore is incontrovertible that His standards are unchanging and infallible – as it was yesterday, it is today and it shall be forever. Permit me to then ask you my believed in Christ, if Jesus Christ visits your place of assignment or if He calls you home today, would He laugh with you, would He weep over your Jerusalem or would He chase you out of the temple as an unprofitable servant? (Matthew 25:14-30).

Beloved, there are consequences for our inconsequences, and permit me to inform you in plain terms that the consequences of our inconsequences are unpredictable in dimension, grievous in practical term and regrettable in experience (Matt. 25:30).

To avoid a calamitous and regrettable end, you must ask God for mercy during this Lent season, retrace your steps, be committed to good works, place your hands on the plough of our Lord Jesus Christ and refuse to turn back (Luke 9:62). You must not allow the society to derail you from the standard of heaven, you must eschew conformity with the world (Romans 12:2) and you must be willing to declare like Esther, to stand by the truth of the Gospel, “if I perish, I perish” (Esther 4:16).

Prayer: Father, give me grace to amend my ways before it is too late for me in the name of Jesus Christ

  • All things are yours, if….

    All things are yours, if….

Text: “Do not conform to the pattern of the world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is…” Romans 12:2

IT had been from biblical times for people to suffer in the midst of opportunities and plenty. Hagar with her son, Ishmael, were once in this ugly situation and Ishmael would have died in the wilderness of Beersheba because of thirst, not knowing that there was a well beside where they were which the angel of God opened Hagar’s eyes to (Genesis 21:14-21).

Simon Peter had the same experience when he went fishing. He toiled all night in the midst of opportunities to no avail until Jesus Christ arrived, and where he had failed all night, he became a success within seconds (Luke 5:1-11).

Beloved, it is not over with anyone who is genuinely in Christ ( cf Romans11:36; Colossians 1:16,17). Peter said that “…the God of all grace, who has called us unto His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that you have suffered a while shall make you perfect, establish, strengthen and settle you” (1 Peter 5:10). I pray that God will speak to your situation and open your eyes to see the stupendous opportunities within and and around you in the name of Jesus Christ.

In Jesus Christ, all things are available and possible provided one can surrender to Him as Lord and Saviour by seeking first His kingdom and follow it up by seeking His righteousness (John 16:33). Beloved, nothing free holds value as value is a function of cost. While seeking His kingdom is a personal decision, to seek His righteousness demands the right attitudes. It is imperative to  note that Christianity is not validated by church titles, position in the church, stickers on cars or size of Bible but by character. Christianity is not pontificated by speaking in tongues or canonised by ability to quote Scriptures. Christianity is seen by the fruits that we bring forth through our character (Matthew 7:20-21). When your attitude towards God is right, your altitude from Him shall be righted and blighted as He would expand your latitude of opportunities.

From our text, Paul offered a template of success to the Romans. He said that three things are needed to open the doors of opportunities. He said that to be able to test, give approval of and showcase the will of God, you must not be conformed to the patterns of this world. In other words, you must not be a con (meaning cheat, defraud, swindle and victimise) to be established as it is in the society. In essence you must “…put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts” (Eph. 4:22). You must not be a person of substance through cheating or swindling or defrauding other people as it is the pattern of the world.

As a follow up to that, Paul said you must be transformed meaning to be “trans” (to shift position or to take certain decisive actions) to be formed. You must “… put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness” (Ephesians 4:24). You must have the “…bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, long-suffering; forbearing one another, and forgiving one another…and charity (Colossians 3:12-14 cf Galatians 5:22-23).

Beloved, kingdom character is a key to manifestation of glory (cf Romans 8:19). To live a testimony-filled life, you need Competence, Chemistry and Character. Competence will get you the things and height that you desire while Chemistry or ability to work with others will determine your fulfilment in that space but Kingdom Character, which is guided by determination, empowered by diligence and uplifted by discipline will keep you at the top, take you to the next levels and do exceedingly abundantly above all you may ask or think (Ephesians 3:20). Character will lift you up from the valley to the mountain top and can dethrone from grace to grass.

Lastly, Paul said this transformation can only evolve from mind renewal, which is from the hearing and hearing of the Word of God will change perspectives (Romans 10:17). Kindly be informed brethren that there is no formation without information (which is internal formation) or the Word of God (Joshua 1:8; Leviticus 20:22) and where there is no in-formation, there will be deformation of person, destruction of life purpose and life shall be fraught with frustration. You must, therefore, ensure that you attend a Bible believing and teaching church, read and meditate on the Word of God both day and night, and observe to comply with its stipulations.

At this time of Lent, I encourage you to seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness by not conforming to the standard of this world but to take a decision, even if it is going to be painful to your body or worldly relationship, to be transformed through increasing knowledge of the Word of God and decision to obey Him concerning all He orders (John 2:5; Joshua 1:8). As God lives, hitherto locked doors shall open to you, your latent opportunities shall come to the surface, you shall be healthy and you shall live and not die in the name of Jesus Christ.

Prayer: Lord, give me grace to jettison worldly patterns and live according to your own will in the name of Jesus Christ.

Lenten Message: The possibilities in fasting!

    By Venerable Henry O. Adelegan

Text:”… nothing shall be impossible unto you… this kind goes not out but by prayer and fasting (Matthew 17:20-21

In our Lord Jesus Christ, there is no barrier that one cannot scale and there is no height that one cannot attain. If the Word of God (John 1:3; Col. 1:16,17) can lift up Joseph, who was a prisoner, to become the Minister of Finance and Vice President in a strange land (Genesis 41:14,39,40), there is no geographical barrier or hinderance with Him, and there is no case that is hopeless with the Scent of water (Job 14:7-9) –

He can remember a beggarly person in Mephibosheth from the valley of life in Lodebar and catapult him to the mountain top of life in the palace (2 Sam. 9). And if He can pay the debt of the widow of one of the sons of the prophets, and upscale her to the committee of the rich people in the society with a small jar of olive oil (2 Kings 4:1-7), He can change your story before this week ends. If with a touch on His garment, the issue of blood of 12 years in the life of that woman which doctors regarded as a terminal ailment (Mk 5:25-34) was healed, there is no HIV/AIDS, hole in the heart, cancer, Ebola or coronavirus ailment that He cannot heal today.

From the passage of our text, He promised that when we fast genuinely, pray very well (1Thess 5:17) and have faith like a mustard seed (Luke 17:6), He will release to us the power to move mountains. Suffice to say that whatever mountain that is commanded to leave shall heed and be removed without hesitation.

What is a mountain? A mountain is that frightening ‘Goliath’ in your life; it is that problem asking, ‘where is your God?’; it is that power that is behind aimless life journey; it is that problem that is capable of turning a 40-day trip to a 40-year journey; it is that power that has introduced strange sicknesses into your life or problems into your family, education or staff of bread; it is that issue that you have prayed about but decided not to shift but abide with you; it is that drug, ruinous habit or life challenge that people have agreed will be with you as long as you are alive.

A mountain can also be an animate being, a person who is blocking your path at home, in your family, at your place of assignment or lifting its head at your place of commission and declaring that you will never fulfil divine purpose or get to your Promised land (Zech. 4:7). Jesus Christ promised that with a command, they shall all become history.

When you fast in faith and with prayer, it doesn’t matter for how long the mountain had been with you, it shall relocate of its own accord and your life shall experience peace in the name of Jesus. Dont forget that Jesus Christ had promised you that nothing shall by any means be impossible with you – what an awesome promise!. He promised that “… whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it” (John 14:12-14) Halleluyah!

Beloved in Christ, it doesn’t matter what you may be passing through at such a time as this, I have good news for you that it is not over with you, God can move the human, spiritual or structural mountain standing before the manifestation of your glory. As long as He lives, your story is going to change for His glory. Where you have been regarded as a nobody, power will change hands very soon and you shall become somebody of great influence. Take the matter of life before God in faith and your case shall be a testimony for the world to hear about.

To benefit from this season of Lent, come to Jesus Christ with a penitent heart, ask Him to forgive your sins and be your Lord and Saviour. Then, you must forsake every act of wickedness, commit yourself to doing good, be charitable to the hungry, attend to the poor, pay attention to the less-privileged and be a channel of blessing to your community. God has  promised that  “Then shall your light break forth as the morning, and your health shall spring forth speedily: and your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of the Lord shall be your reward. Then shall you call, and the Lord shall answer; you shall cry, and He shall say, Here I am.” (Isaiah 58:8,9a). This shall be your portion in the name of Jesus Christ.

Prayer: Lord, hear my cries, attend to my plea, remove my mountains and let my life continue to be a testimony in the name of Jesus Christ.

  • When Olanipekun built for God

    When Olanipekun built for God

    By Sunday Saanu

His father could be described as poor as a church rat in terms of material wealth! But Pa Isaac Olanipekun of blessed memory was as rich as Croesus when it comes to the fear of God, charitable character, community service, humility, compassion and Christian eschatologies.

For good 17 years, Pa Isaac Olanipekun who passed on in 1999 served St .Peter’s Church, Ikere Ekiti, sweeping the floor, planting flowers and cutting grasses without collecting salaries. This was the tradition with which he raised his children,  including today’s legal titan, Chief Oluwole Oladapo Olanipekun

Chief Olanipekun’s story is probably one of the inscrutable ways of the good Lord. He has got what his father lacked! Could it be said that he is reaping the fruits of his father’s good work? Today, Chief Olanipekun,  who is obviously one of the men of immense means in Nigeria, is using every ounce of energy in his body, as well as his wealth to positively change the world for the better, rising everyday by lifting people and the society daily.

Perhaps, the best of the benefactions of this man of affluence and influence was his recent donation: a multi-million Naira and architectural masterpiece building, as a replacement of the church of his birth, St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Ikere in Ekiti state. The dedication of the ultra-modern building which drew dignitaries from every part of Nigeria, inc luring the Vice-president, Prof. Yemi Osinbanjo, one-time Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, almost all the governors of South West among others. The dedication ceremony which was both sober and spiritual, was also replete with pomp and pageantry. It was a day of glory to God. It was a day of honour for the legal luminary. It was indeed a great day in Ekiti!

The church, a magnificent and tastefully furnished edifice of enviable opulence solely championed to completion by a legal colossus and his beautiful wife, Lady Omolara Olanipekun, has a capacity for 1,500 worshippers with state-of-the-art facilities such as modern music hybrid, fully marbled pulpits, audio visual gadgets and new complete set of musical instruments. It is impressive, picturesque and exquisite. To say the least, the church is a beautiful place of blessing.

Interestingly, Chief Olanipekun who is regarded as a phenomenal philanthropist in the country has registered his passion in communal, educational and ecclesiastic settings, building men and institutions- all towards poverty extermination, man-power development as well as the societal growth. Perhaps to corroborate the popular saying that charity must begin at home, this modest and meticulous man of integrity begins his humanitarian activities from his state of origin, Ekiti State. For instance, in Ikere, along Igbara-odo Road, he built and donated to the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Ikere Branch, in March, 2014, a 350-capacity Bar Centre and in August, 2019, he purchased a brand new 16-capacity bus for the Branch. Along Akure road (at Amoye Grammar School), a computer hub fully equipped with laptop and desktop computers was built and commissioned in 2007 and refurbished in 2019. While approaching Ikere from Ise, is the magnificent Iyaafin Abosede Amenity Ward with the state-of-the-art facilities, built and donated to the Ekiti state Government at the State Specialist Hospital in 2015. Along Ado Road, and within the premises of St. Peter’s Anglican Church, the Pa Isaac Olanipekun Memorial Vicarage building was donated by him and his wife in 2012. On the same Ado Road, is the budding FM Radio Station which was commissioned on 28 February, 2020.

In 1996, he instituted the Wole Olanipekun Scholarship Scheme, and as at the last award exercise in November 2019, over 649 indigent students from various secondary schools and universities in Nigeria have benefited from the scheme. At the same event, he paid for the 2020 JAMB fees of 94 students of St. Louis Grammar School, Ikere, 46 of whom are Ikere indigenes, while the remaining 47 are form other parts of the country.

Taking the kind gesture a notch higher, Chief Olanipekun sacrificially gave his substance ceaselessly when he was appointed by the government as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council of University of Ibadan. He used his influence to open up Ajibode, the second phase of the institution. In 2011,  when the flood ravaged the university, he personally donated N10million towards the amelioration of the situation. Before his tenure expired, he donated a 350-sitting capacity lecture theatre to the Faculty of Law, known as Wole Olanipekun Law Lecture Building.

Shortly after his stint in UI, Chief Olanipekun was also appointed as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council of Ajayi Crowther University. Along with his wife, he has donated Wole and Lara Olanipekunn Vice-Chancellor’s lodge. According to Ajayi Crowther University VC, Prof. Dapo Asaju, “while Chief and his wife were building the lodge, I tried in a very surreptitious way to ascertain the cost from the contractor with a view to assisting financially. The contractor told me that he was under strict instruction not to disclose the cost to anybody. Chief Olanipekun and his wife therefore financed the lodge all alone”

It never ceases to amaze the pundits how an individual could be so generous, focused, consistent and irrevocably committed to the welfare of people. Chief Olanipekun, with his huge intellectual savvy, uncompromising sense of justice, uncommon courage and steely grit in defence of rule of law and justice has been providing oxygen for the survival of the society without an expectation of any reward in return. Mass poverty makes him teary. He is ever ready to light a candle in the darkest moments in people’s life as a result of milk of human kindness flowing in his body! He has been trained and taught to use his sweat to bind the wounds of poverty of the people, dressing its suppurating gashes with his wealth.

Without mincing words, Chief Olanipekun is a rare gift to this generation with gross benevolence, touching lives and enhancing dreams and destinies. More impressive is his humble, humane and effervescent disposition, including generosity so unstinting, gregariousness that is so capacious. He serves God with genuine, but unostentatious rectitude. He radiates so much zest in community development and human emancipation. He believes it is in giving that we receive.

Eulogizing him, Vice President Yemi Osinbanjo described Chief Olanipekun as a smart lawyer who will ever be blessed by God for building for God. Prof. Osinbanjo said God loved David for thinking about building for God. According to him, “if God loved David for thinking about building, what do we think God will do for the person who thought and built for Him?” In the same vein, the Archbishop and Primate of all Nigeria (Anglican Communion), the most Reverend. Nicholas Okoh believed the gift of the building was the best of Olanipekun’s achievements. Charity is a theological virtue by which we love God above all things and also fellow men for the sake of God. It is a supernatural gift. But unfortunately, not all men are endowed with it. Chief Olanipekun, with his selfless sacrifice and service to humanity called on other men of means to assist the less-priviledged with their wealth.

Indeed, we are all products of our backgrounds Chief Olanipekun has advertised a disciplined background, acting in the fashion of a gentleman . Hear Chief Olanipekun, “growing up was beautiful, eventful and refreshing. I had parents, who were not rich, but very rich in character and fear of God. They inculcated discipline in their children; they taught us to fear God and respect  humanity, to love our neighbours and country. What we are today is the result of the training they gave us” What are the parents teaching their children today? Are the children being taught to fear God and respect humanity? Where is the place of altruism, patriotism and selflessness in our quest to make a living? These are not just rhetorical questions , but questions that must be answered by every parent, school and religious organization.

Among the mammoth of dignitaries at the occasion were the UI VC, Prof. Abel Idowu Olayinka, the UI Registrar, Mrs. Olubunmi Faluyi, Dr. Gani Adeniran, Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde, All Progressives Congress National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole; former governors, Chief Segun Oni (Ekiti), Senator Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo), Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola (Osun); former deputy governors Prof. Modupe Adelabu and Kolapo Olusola (Ekiti); Minister of Sports, Sunday Dare; Senators Ifeanyi Ubah and Biodun Olujimi; the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi among others.
