    By Adeola Ogunlade

They described her as an exemplary Christian whose prayer life is commendable.

Led by wife of The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor (Mrs.) Folu Adeboye, the church leaders stated she was a gift to humanity and the body of Christ.

Others who paid tributes to her include General Overseer of Foursquare Gospel Church and his wife Rev Felix and Olubisi Meduoye; incoming general overseer of the church and his wife, Rev. Sam and Bisi Aboyeji; Wife of the General Overseer of Christian Pentecostal Mission, Pastor Mercy Ezekiel; Founder of Later Rain Assembly Pastor Tunde Bakare, and Senior Pastor Soul Winning Chapel Rev. (Mrs.) Edith Iloh.

Adeboye said: “Mummy Badejo is beautiful physically, beautiful at heart, beautiful in all sphere of life.

“She is a mother in a million. She had experienced motherhood and she is experiencing it. In the physical, it has transformed into her ministry experience, counseling ministry which we all know her for and even in her relationship with other people.

“She is a mother that knows the Lord, a mother that encourages, a mother that loves and pray that all these virtues in your life will continue to multiply in the name of Jesus.”

Adeboye, who spoke on gratitude, said that the salvation of the soul of Badejo was worthy of celebration.

Ezekiel, who said she and the celebrator have been friends for many years, described her as a “decent woman, a woman of integrity, a woman that fears God, respect her husband and takes care of her children.

“She has fire in her bones. Ask me about her. She is a prayerful person. She is not somebody who you can joke with because she knows how to ascend the throne of grace and bring the answers.”

Meduoye, who led prayers for the family of the celebrator, lauded her dedication and commitment to the service of the Kingdom.

“You have done so much in promoting the cause of the gospel. Your dedication to God’s service, selflessness and bringing smiles to others are indeed exemplary.

“You are church planter, a lover of missions. Your life of sacrificial giving to the work of the ministry is commendable.”

To Bakare, “she represents the qualities of a virtuous woman. She is consistent and she is a woman of prayer.”

  • Canadian Pastor’s family feeds, cares for the poor

    Obinwa Nnaji, Toronto

Meals, food to be precise, have an irresistible pull of affection to society, for as the maxim goes, feed a man or soul, you feed a community nay nation because of the multiplying effect.

In Toronto, a Canadian Pastor, has over the years applied the methodology of cooking, feeding freely and caring for a large number of the poor who simply walk into his church every Saturday, whether known or unknown, and get a full compliments of luncheon, to win souls for God.

Amazing as it sounds, Pastor Mark Goring of Church in Regent Park, had experimented Community Meal in the church in 1994, which then operated from 3.30pm-4pm, and it became a major success, thus with time, becoming the largest Meal Church in Toronto.

His zest, knows no bounds. First is to feed souls, thereafter those of them not under any compulsion, stay behind for the second stanza, which is the spiritual cleansing using the Bible on the sacred words of God.

Spiritual sanitisation quickly caught up with the deluge of the needy as could be found in every society of the world, as they trooped to get fed and listen to the word of God. It brought a flood gate of conversions as the church grew from its first negligible number to a large faithful coming over every Saturday.

So with a heart full of meek of human kindness, Pastor Mark and his wife Pastor Kim who handles the musical aspect of the church, have taken several risks by not only waiting for those in want to come over to the church, but had confronted the alcoholics, drug addicts and gang groups in their very habitat, at the risk of their lives.

In the last 15 years, the faces of these Pastors husband and wife have been a regular and constant faces in the communities, administering hope and amity by bringing succour to all and sundry, meeting both their spiritual needs and basic necessities of life.

He tells of some eerie stories of attempts to convince drug addicts and get some street gangs out of the streets, almost turned awry as some of the gang groups were very upset that they traced his children to their schools and were making enquiries of them.

A Pastor with muscular Christianity, he continues to relish and praise God for what He had laid on the palms of Church in Regent Park to offer to society at large. Pastor Mark’s reminiscences of his work in God’s Vineyard, sounds like a thriller film. Do have a Sunday delight:

“Regent Park is one of the oldest social groups/communities housing very low income people in the area at that time. Built in the late 40s, the area was full of crimes 15 years ago, gladly the area now has become a model to tackle crimes, poverty, drugs and those frightening challenges, have become a thing of the past. The old buildings have been pulled down about eight years ago and now we have tall beautiful buildings with bustling economic diversities never there before, springing up.”

From a modest and humble beginning of just trickles of people coming on our first day of introducing Community Meal, we have now almost a full house of diverse group of people from poor background.

The initial timing had to change so from 3.30pm we now run the service as from 5.30-6.30pm. Thereafter at 6.35pm we roll out spiritual songs and then preach the Bible. We then share testimonies that are awesome and exciting.

There are lots of people who had difficulties in understanding the word of God, a maze of people in the church and community that have left alcoholism, ex-criminals, drug addiction, prostitution, those hitherto sleeping on the streets, indeed those who had lost all hopes of making it in life again.

“We now have School teachers, nurses, we have begun a Sunday Bible Study and also a small Sunday Gathering Park. We are hoping to put something together for the children, toys we give out to children, Special Christmas Meal, Carols of Candle Light billed for December 21, this year. One of our board members, long time member, she has been organising cookies bags for Christmas as a tradition.

“The Church in Regent Park is most grateful and appreciate support from individuals, organisations and collegiate of 15 different churches that fund the feeding as they worked out a simple formula of one group of church taking care of the food for two months duration and another takes over.

“I am full of gratitude to God and humanity that we have continued to offer valuable services to the community meeting their spiritual and basic needs.

“Very pathetic stories that would bleed the heart but it is gratifying that most have turned a new leaf. One of our very active workers in church now, was a forsaken drug addict. When his mother passed on, he started doing drugs, cocaine leading to his loss of job. He began sleeping under a tree.

“One cold day, he hit rock bottom, picked up his pieces and went to a drug rehabilitation centre near our church. He found a bible and went back to school. He has been sober for over four years now.

“There are also about five people in the church who had also been down below on drugs but have now stayed stable and gone off drugs. God can do all things. Our joy is that we have touched lives and those who felt persecuted and abandoned. Trans gender, LGTBQ acronym for Lesbians, Gay Trans Gender, Bisexual Quere.

“Perseverance to God has a way of strengthening us. We have gone past the age where we just come to Sunday service and go. We must share our experiences and testimonies as they are the lubricants to ignite and save souls. We must go into the community and help them out.

“My wife Kim is gifted musically and she leads worship songs every Saturday. My children are also learning music and there is no gain saying that in a few years time, they will join the church worship group.

“We have full resident bands for the community and my parents are nurtured in worship as my mother is a pianist and father a good drummer amongst other attributes.”

Pastor Mark Goring’s background is enriched with 17 years of worship with the youths, 12 years in neighbourhood fellowship and had pastored churches in various areas of Canada viz Scarborough Maldern, smaller communities in Toronto and also worked for years at north east of Toronto.

Majored in Theology at the Eastern Pentecostal Bible College Peterborough, where he got a Degree, he told me of a gripping story that brought tears to his eyes that indeed made him to seek better ways of helping community.

Two gang groups had been at daggers drawn, with one of them approaching him for a solution. The gang put before him a riddle and impossible question that made him retire to his closet in the church and weep.

Pressed further, he had no answers to their plight. Through research, he now found a solution by attending further training at the Full Seminary Los Angels where he got Urban Certificate and thorough grooming from experienced theologians and experts on managing crime infested areas.

Feeding several mouths, so to say, is Biblical. Jesus had used the breaking of bread and drinking of wine to feed his disciples and to a larger extent the entire Christian world, that still partake in the sharing of the bread and wine. To share with the downtrodden brings a spasm of hope to the lost and forsaken. It restores love and creates conviviality with the hoipoli.

Pastor Mark Goring epitomises the typical Canadian, ever loving, hospitable and friendly, ready to assist any visitor in case one has questions on seeking directions to locations. The streets of Toronto, Ontario and Calgary, yours sincerely visited, speak volume of a

People well nurtured, cultured and a Canada that works, worthy of emulation by world leaders.

  • Building true unity among Nigerian Christians

     Adeyinka Akintunde

There is lack of unity amongst Nigerian Christians today. Many churches exist in Nigeria, all with different doctrines, beliefs and ways of approaching the same God. From the Orthodox churches, the Jehovah’s Witnesses, the Anglican, the Catholic church, the white garment and to the Pentecostal churches, different thoughts are served from the very many pastors and general overseers, to the expectant members.

Some teach that God is so holy that he cannot behold sin, and as such, members must continually examine themselves, whether they are still in Him, in order to avoid His anger and judgement. Others say that the grace of God is sufficient, and so, it is not for man to be conscious of sin all the time, but to stand firm in the liberty and righteousness of Christ.

From time immemorial in Nigerian Christianity, different issues have reared their heads, with questions on its rightness or otherwise hovering around it. A quick example is whether it is right for a woman to put on trousers, ear rings and make up. Another is on the question of tithes, and who receives it.

This is a proof of the divisions that exist amongst Nigerian Christians. It is sad to note that people, most especially women, go to church just for miracles from their “man of God” in their various churches. No one wants to have a close relationship with God, learn his ways and live on earth like Him again.

Another unfortunate observation reveals that a member of a church like the Redeemed Christian Church of God can give justifiable reasons why he should not be found in Christ Embassy, and a member of the Celestial Church of Christ should not worship in the Deeper Life Bible Church, or the Catholic Church. The list is endless.

The big question on the unity of Nigerian Christians continues to linger. When will the divisions among Nigerian Christians end, such that true love and acceptance becomes truly evident?

Like Jesus Christ prayed in the Holy Scriptures, it is for the benefit of all if Nigerian Christians will be one in faith, doctrine.

Paul the Apostle, in writing to the Ephesian church, also urged them to “endeavour to keep the unity of the spirit in the bond of peace”. He further stressed that there is only “One body, One Lord, One faith and One baptism.”

This is one sure way to fulfil a line of the Nigerian national anthem “one nation bound in freedom, peace and unity”

“Similarly, the programme provides a wider opportunity to bless children of God through prayer and prophetic ministration in line with the objective of the monthly Solution Night that holds in HCC church. In addition we take time to pray for our dear Nigeria and our leaders,” he stated.

The cleric assured the outreach will be marked by wonderful time of deep worship, gospel entertainment and so many activities.

He stressed that it’s also a time to pray for issues. “We shall seek the face of God for mercy and divine intervention in the lives of people.

“If you know anyone believing God for the fruit of the womb or anyone that is sick and their hope is dimmed or it seems there is no cure, why not come so we can pray together for Mercy. That’s why it is titled “Night of Mercy”.

Evangelist Tope Alabi assured participants of open heaven.

“I will be releasing a single before the end of this year and participant of “Night of Mercy” will get a taste of it,” Alabi said.

  • The Healing Balm!

Welcome to another exciting week! I hope you were blessed by last week teaching. Today, we shall focus on: The Healing Balm!

We discover from scriptures that there is a balm in Gilead but it is not recognised; there’s a physician there but He is not acknowledged. As it is written, Behold the voice of the cry of the daughter of my people because of them that dwell in a far country: Is not the Lord in Zion? is not her king in her? Why have they provoked me to anger with their graven images, and with strange vanities? The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved. For the hurt of the daughter of my people am I hurt; I am black; astonishment hath taken hold on me. Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered (Jeremiah 8:19-22). From the above scripture, we can see that with the Physician and the balm, our health can be recovered. This Great Physician is Jesus; His Word is the balm that heals and delivers and He has made a prescription for us.

    What then is this Balm?

    • The Anointing Oil: This is one of the prescriptions of the Great Physician. The Bible records, And he called unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits; And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them (Mark 6:7, 13). The Great Physician sent forth His disciples and He equipped them with the prescription for any kind of sickness. Having proved the efficacy of this prescription, the Apostles maintained the use of it all through their ministry. That was why James boldly recommended it to the Church in James 5:14, Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. This is the all-purpose drug. Throughout the scriptures, there is no other prescription for healing outside the oil –the New Testament covenant balm. It will heal any sickness and destroy any disease. The anointing oil is the healing balm.

Furthermore, inside the oil resides the personality of the Holy Ghost, the third Person of the Godhead. The Bible says, Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah (1 Samuel 16:13). David was anointed with the oil and the One inside the oil stepped out of the oil and came upon him. Every time we receive the oil with an open heart, He comes out for us. It is written, So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him (Isaiah 59:19). Friends, what the anointing oil contains are not scientific; it is a mystery –the mystery of the indwelling presence of the Spirit of the Lord.

In conclusion, the anointing oil has the mystery of the fan and fire as seen in Matthew 3:11-12, I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire (Matthew 3:11-12). When the fire enters our bodies, it destroys every chaff, it consumes every stone blocking our health, it licks up every spell of satan and every evil in our lives (1 Kings 18:38). However, this can only be possible when you are born again.  Are you born again? If you are not, this is an opportunity to do so. Simply say the following prayer: Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me of my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. Today, I accept You as my Lord and personal Saviour. Thank You, Jesus, for saving me! Now, I know I am born again! • Nigeria Prays summit in Lagos

    By Our Reporter

In line with its commitment to keep interceding for the nation, Nigeria Prays, the non-denominational prayer group established by former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, has concluded plans to hold a one-day prayer retreat in Lagos.

The last time such retreat was held in Lagos was about two years ago.

But the Nigeria Prays group normally holds prayer rally every month moving from one state of the country to the other.

The group has also had to travel out of the country to hold such rally.

But the Lagos rally is organised by the Lagos Chapter of the group and conceived to bring together believers from across the state so they could cry unto God for Nigeria.

Read Also: ‘Why Nigeria needs mercy’

A statement by the Lagos state chapter Chairman of Nigeria Prays, Pastor Toyin Kehinde and his vice, Pastor Afolabi Raphael, explained the summit will hold at the Good Shepherd Parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) 232/234 Herbert Macaulay Way, Alagomeji, Sabo Lagos on October 27 by 2p.m.

The theme of the prayer summit according to the statement is: “Oh, Lord Arise heal our Land.”

“It is mainly an intercessory session. It is true that we have been praying. But prayers can never be too much. While we keep calling on God, we keep appealing to our people to work hard and live lives that will bring glory to God.

“Our situation is not irredeemable. If people say we pray they don’t get results, what if we have not prayed at all? But the fact is that it is the prayer of the saints that have been keeping Nigeria as a country,” the statement added.
