  • Empowered by the Holy Spirit for exploits!

Welcome to the concluding part of this teaching! My prayer for you is that God is going to turn every unwanted situation around your life into undeniable testimonies, in Jesus’ name! This week, we shall focus on the topic: Empowered by the Holy Spirit for Exploits!

From scriptures, we understand that every child of God is ordained to live a lifestyle of exploits. This is because exploit is the birthright of the redeemed of the Lord. Also, for every believer, the scripture makes it clear that: Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid (Matthew 5:13-14).That means, our destinies are not just any kind, but an enviable one. Therefore, our call into the faith is unto glory and honour, not to shame, frustration and reproach (2 Peter 1:3; 1 Corinthians 2:9).

However, we understand from scripture that, for our destinies to be great and glorious, it will require the ministry of the Holy Spirit for full delivery. This is because there is no exploit outside the Holy Spirit (Zechariah 4:6; Psalm 92:10-15).

Who, then, is the Holy Ghost?

He is the third Person of the Trinity who shares the same identity with the Father and the Son. Furthermore, we recognise from scriptures that the Holy Spirit is the power base of the Kingdom, and He manifests Himself through multi-dimensional channels. This is why we can’t play low on Him as He is a multi-dimensional Spirit that empowers the saints for exploits. Therefore, it is important to understand that there is no platform for comparison between what the flesh can accomplish and what the Spirit can get done. Thus, our golden destinies are not deliverable by human efforts or exertion of one’s might, but by the Holy Spirit. For instance, we saw from scriptures that John the Baptist carried the potential above what Elijah carried; yet, a small girl demanded for his head and as such he couldn’t fulfil his glorious destiny. Also, until the Holy Ghost came, the glorious destinies of Peter, James, John and the other disciples were not realised. After the Holy Ghost came, the fearful Peter became bold such that he and his team took the city by storm. Even Jesus, until He returned in the power of the Spirit, He had no identity. Obviously, to be destined for exploits is one thing; it is another to accomplish it on earth. Consequently, potential is not equal to realities. That is why we must find out what it takes to actualise our potentials in Christ.

However, the Holy Ghost operates through divine channels. Thus, until we engage these channels, life remains an eternal struggle. Some of these channels include:

The Spirit of Love: We have the Holy Ghost firing the love of God into our hearts.  Importantly, the Spirit of love is not just about loving God, but loving God above all else including self. We observe from scriptures how anointed lovers of God excelled. For instance, Joseph, a lover of God set an example for us on the importance of the Spirit of love in doing exploits. He said: …how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God? (Genesis 39:9).Likewise, Daniel who would rather die in the lion’s den than to bow to the idols of the king consequently became the envy of his generation. I once said, you may have read all the books I have written but you have not found my secret until you discover my heartbeat for God because the secret of my little life is in my heartbeat for God.

The Spirit of Boldness: It takes boldness to possess our possession and to command exploits. As we all know, in everyone’s Promised Land, there are giants, whose mission is to scare us from possessing our possessions and the more we subscribe to fear, the more we become grounded. Remember, it is the fear of man that brings him into a fall. Consider Job the great, who initially became grounded as a result of fear. That was also Peter’s experience until he was baptized by the Holy Ghost. Thereafter, the shaky Peter became a rock; spoke the unspeakable and set fear into the heart of the enemy.

In summary, there is no shortcut to actualising our potentials in Christ without the visible, tangible and proven empowerment of the Spirit which begins with baptism in the Holy Ghost. Remember, the world is waiting for the manifestation of the sons of God, but only those empowered by the Spirit can manifest as such. However, supernatural exploits in life is not for everybody; it is only reserved for the redeemed. Are you born again? If you are not, this is an opportunity to do so. Simply say the following prayer: Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. Today, I accept You as my Lord and personal Saviour. Thank You Jesus for saving me! Now, I know I am born again! • Alder Consulting sets agenda for churches, govt with new report

The church is the barometer through which societal values are evaluated.

This was the kernel of the 2019 edition of Alder Consulting Church Report presented to reporters last week in Lagos.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Leke Alder, Principal of Alder Consulting, said the firm took up the survey not only to provide the clergy a window through which they can view society but also to provide society a window through which they can view the clergy.

“The report measures the perception of the Church in Nigeria and its impact on society & national development.

“It provides feedback from church members & the general public, as well as information about socio-cultural shifts that affect the Church,” he stressed.

The Alder Church Report highlights the social relevance of the Church and in particular, captures the reaction of the youth demographic on burning topics such as sexuality and mental health.

According to him, the survey for the Alder Church Report was done online and offline and spanned 6-geopolitical zones in Nigeria.

In all, there were 4,634 respondents. 68 percent of whom were below 35 years old.

The gender ratio for the survey was 58 percent male to 42 percent female while 50 percent were single and 50 percent married.

From the survey, 30percent of the respondents are of the opinion that the Church should not be involved in politics. However, 23 percent say that pastors can vie for public office while 80 percent think that churches should advocate for good governance.

The survey, among many others, finds that more millennials consume Christian contents in digital format (e-Bible, Video Messages & Audio Messages) in the Northwest than in any other region of Nigeria.

This speaks to a strong desire for teachings in this part of Nigeria.

Another outcome of the report shows that Church members would like the Church to demonstrate financial responsibility by giving back to society (81%).

46 percent would like professional financial auditing, 40percent would like churches to publish financial reports while 25 percent want churches to pay tax.

The outcome of the survey also shows that people would like the church to be more responsive to issues of drug abuse, domestic violence, unemployment, depression, rape and sexuality.

Similarly, the number of millennials who believe in premarital sex has risen to 20 percent from 17 percent (2018).

This may signal a mind shift regarding sex and sexuality among millennial churchgoers.

With regards to church attendance, weekly attendance in church has increased from 42 percent to 50 percent.

However twice weekly attendance has dropped to 43 percent from 48 percent.

Regarding how the church can impact the next generation, millennials emphasised “Teaching the Word”, scoring it 92 percent.

In terms of current impact, they scored Financial Empowerment lowest (56 percent), despite the multiplicity of teachings on the subject.

Meanwhile, there appears to be a drop in church influence on culture. It is ranked below average (45percent). In 2016, it was ranked 68percent.

Reacting to the report, Senior Pastor of Elevation Church, Pastor Godman Akinlabi, said churches are trying their best to make living spiritually and physically more meaningful for their members but added that there is a limit to what they can do.

“This report will also help in no small ways for churches and policy makers to respond adequately to grey areas of the society,” he stated.

He, however, said the report is not limited to churches alone and its clergy but for all stakeholders, including policy makers, social workers, parents as well as youths.

CEO of Emotions City, Pastor Oyinkansola Alabi, said many are quick to blame the church for some issues but in reality they’re policy related issues which must be tackled by government.

  • ‘Buhari should make anti-graft fight development oriented’

Senior Pastor of Praise Arena Lagos, Pastor Jummy Adetoyese- Olagunju has charged President Muhammadu Buhari to make the fight against corruption in the next four years, a developmental process that will include all strata of our national life.

Olagunju spoke with our correspondent at the Super Praise Carol organised by the church at VGC, Lekki, Lagos.

He attributed the reputation and popularity of Buhari to his stance against corruption dated back to over 30 years ago as a Head of State, which he described as highly commendable.

But he said Nigerians backed out of the anti-corruption stance of Buhari the most he was ousted because it was not a developmental process that Nigerians across board could take ownership of.

He warned the ongoing anti-graft battle might suffer the same fate except Buhari allows Nigerians to see it as their project.

“A programme hardly outlives its initiator because successive administrations may not continue in that trajectory but when it is a process, it will outlive its initiator from generation to another.

“President Buhari should bring his reputation to the surface and deliberately fashion out developmental plans of action that are geared toward promoting the values of orderliness, patience, honesty and selfless services at all levels of our educational institutions, market, private sector, and other relevant institutions in Nigeria,” he said.

He added: “Let the anti-corruption development plan and processes starts from primary schools on their assembly grounds.

“It should be sounded into their ears so that they will know that it is good to uphold good values and character for the progress of our country.”

He restated corruption and indiscipline are hydra headed monsters that threaten good governance, sustainable development plans, economic growth, and public trust in Nigeria.

Olagunju noted that corruption has been misconstrued to mean financial misappropriation, stating it extends to someone withholding salaries of workers, taking bribes, driving on one way traffic, child abuse, modern day slavery and moral laxity.

He pointed out some western countries are winning the fight against corruption because they have succeeded in embedding the culture of discipline, honesty and integrity into their system.

Such cultures, according to him, are adhered to by everyone irrespective of status or party affiliation while defaulters are punished according to the rule of law.

The cleric lamented the dearth of quality leadership in the nation, stating people who offer themselves for leadership positions exploit collective divisions to drive their personal courses.

  • Escaped Chibok Girl graduates in America

One of the 276 schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram terrorists in Chibok town, Borno State in 2014, Palmatah Mutah, has earned an associate degree from a community college in the United States of America.

Her graduation day came 5 years, one month and three days after the ignoble mass abductions that sparked global outrage and ignited the #bringbackourgirls campaign.

The 23-year-old escaped that fateful April night by jumping out of a Boko Haram truck.

She becomes the first escaped Chibok girl to obtain an associate degree from an institution abroad.

Many Nigerians were shocked most of the 57 Chibok students who escaped could not speak English although they were final year secondary school students.

However Mutah proved to be an exceptional candidate and after just one year in a two-year programme in the US meant to enable them complete their high school education, she took a Community College entrance exam and passed.

She was the only one out of 10 Chibok girls sponsored to school in the US by international human rights lawyer Emmanuel Ogebe to make it to Community College within the first year of arrival.

In January 2016, Mutah along with two other non-Chibok victims of terror and persecution from northeast Nigeria, who had also successfully passed the entrance exams, began their academic sojourn in a Community College in Washington metro area.

One of the three gifted schoolgirls who was orphaned by Boko Haram in Maiduguri graduated last year with an associate degree in Science while Mutah also obtained her associate degree in science.

Ogebe praised her for her resilience in the face of threats and entreaties from several quarters to quit schooling.

“In addition to her courage, character and intellect, Mutah was also active in her campus Christian fellowship group. She volunteered in her church and also participated in the church’s seasonal mass choir.

“She has also shown exceptionality in other sectors of life. She learnt to drive a vehicle and obtained her Driver’s license. She drove herself to school for over a year and also drove her classmates as well.

“On the whole Ms Mutah is a well-adjusted, fully-assimilated “All-American” young adult with grace, poise and balance,” stated.

He added: “She models the ideals of what young girls given opportunity can blossom to become.

“Mutah’s success was a derivate of personal integrity, principle and discipline coupled with mentorship, nurture, faith and love.”

Ogebe said Mutah’s determination, courage and tenacity have always been there all along, even in 2014 when she refused to abandon her classmate in Sambisa forest after she jumped and injured her legs.

“How will I face your parents and tell them I left you in the forest?” she replied when he friend asked her to leave and save herself.

It was that friend who when given an opportunity to school abroad by human rights lawyer Emmanuel Ogebe then recommended Ms Mutah to be considered for school in America as well.

She again displayed remarkable tenacity during her escape when she went in search of help for her friend and found a herdsman who didn’t want to help.

“If you don’t help us, no one will?” she insisted until he finally went back with her on his bike to rescue her injured friend and ultimately to another village after his wife tended to them.

Amazingly, the friend she helped later reciprocated she recommended to go along with her when given the opportunity to travel overseas for schooling.

An emotional Ogebe said: “The graduation of Palmatah is a highpoint of 5 years of toil and travail. Weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning.

“She is an illustration of the millions of brilliant kids in Nigeria undiscovered for opportunity but for tragedy and even then until personal vision and intervention.

“I am especially thankful to God for vindicating and honoring our sacrifices and struggles for her.

“Some people said they were not ready or worthy of America but we took the risk all the same. She has proven that any child with the right attitude can reach altitudes.

“Interestingly of all the 11 schoolgirls we flew into America in 2014,in the largest airlift of Nigerian victims, she was the only one who personally flew with me.

“I am also grateful to those who helped us support her these past few years.”

At the graduation ceremony of her college, which is the 14th largest in America, she was one of less than 100 students on international visas from 45 countries to graduate.

During the recognition of special classes of students, she stood up amongst those who speak more than two languages and those who were the first graduates in their families.

  • CWI bemoans insecurity

Members of the Christian Welfare Initiative (CWI) in Lagos have expressed unhappiness over banditry, kidnapping and extra-judicial killings in Nigeria.

They spoke at a media briefing last week with the theme “Insecurity, honesty, equity and welfare for Nigerians.

The CWI President, Archbishop Michael Fadeyi, said the increasing social vices in the nation had reached a point where government should give utmost priority to tackling insecurity.

This, he said, is because security of lives and property remains the first duty of government.

While acknowledging the security forces are overstretched, Fadeyi suggested said it was high time federal government reconsidered the issue of state policing.

“The burden of policing the whole country with different complexities, cultures and terrains is clearly becoming unbearable for only the federal government to cope with,” he said.

He added that evil and despair should not be allowed to consume any country, saying “innovative leadership, deployment of technology, personnel trainings, adequate funding and equipment and discipline of security forces will ensure that these vices, which has caused more than enough sorrow and bloodshed in the land will be dealt with appropriately.”

Archbishop Fadeyi, who was inaugurated at the event, replaced late Archbishop Magnus Atilade, the founder of the organisation

Speaking on the outcome of the 2019 elections, Fadeyi congratulated the losers for efforts in strengthening the nation’s democracy and the winners for their victory.

He urged the winners “not to forget their campaign promises to the people, as they assume the positions they were elected into.”

  • Cleric canvasses national day of praise and worship

The Senior Pastor of Apostle Royal Triumphant Church International Apostle Helen Dania has thrown her weight behind calls for a National Day of Praise and Worship in Nigeria.

Dania said this at the 4th edition of church’s high praise extravaganza at its headquarters in Ojo, Lagos.

The event featured praise, drama and comedy

She said the socio-economic cum security challenges in Nigeria can be so overwhelming and may have defiled series of fasting and prayer.

But if Nigerians praise God, she assured things would turn around and all the nation’s tormentors will be dusted.

Although, she commended the effort of the government in tackling insecurity in parts of the country, she stated the unending cases of banditry, kidnapping and terrorism are as heartrending as disturbing.

She noted that declaring a day of national praise and worship to God can put the enemies of Nigeria at bay because “God is always happy when His children praise Him and remind Him of how powerful, mighty, great and wondrous are His works.”

According to her: “Each time we praise God a lot of miracles happen. Praising God is a profitable venture. We have been seeing the benefits of praising God in our lives as a church”.

She stressed that setting aside a day of National Praise and Worship to thank God would have immense effect on getting God’s attention for the much needed peace, growth and development in our country.

She posited that all the hideouts of terrorists across the nation where people promoting unrest will fall at the instance of praise.

“Praise is the gateway to God’s heart and God is waiting for Nigerians to praise Him against all odds.

“He will stand up in His mighty power and fight for the country and enthrone peace and progress across the land,” Dania stated.

  • Understanding the master key to a world of exploits!

Welcome to another impactful week of enviable testimonies and liftings! This week, we shall focus on the topic: Understanding the Master Key to a World of Exploits!

First, we must recognise that by redemption, every child of God is ordained for exploits, not just ordinary exploits, but supernatural exploits after the order of Christ and even more. As it is written: Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father (John 14:12). That means anyone who believes in Him is ordained for greater works than Christ. This is not being ambitious or over-ambitious, but it is our heritage in Christ Jesus. This is why commanding unusual exploits should not be strange to us as it is not reserved just for the privileged; it is our birthright in redemption (Acts 10:34).

    What is Exploit?

As recorded in scripture, exploit is all about accomplishing things that eyes have not seen, that ears have not heard and that have not entered into the hearts of men (1Corinthians 2:9). It means global relevance and impact after the order of Isaac.  For instance, in Genesis 26:12-14, we saw that Isaac was in a foreign land; yet, he went forward, waxed strong, became very great and as such, the Philistines envied him. In other words, he became the envy of the people among whom he was a stranger. This shows that, we, as the brethren of Isaac, are equally destined for exploits and accomplishments of outstanding feats. We must get done things that eyes have not seen, that ears have not heard, and that have not entered the hearts of men. That’s what exploit is all about. However, like I have always said, it’s one thing to have the key to a door and another to use it to gain access. Nothing guarantees access like having the key to a door we desire to access and using it. When we have the key, we have dominion over the door. Exploit is God’s agenda for the redeemed but if we don’t have the key, supernatural exploit is not in view.

What, then, is the Master key to a World of Exploits?

No doubt, the Word of God is the Master Key to a world of exploits. In Hebrews 11:3, the scripture says: …we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. This helps us to understand that God’s Word has inbuilt power to generate exploits. God’s Word is not only true, but it is the truth about anything and everything in life. For instance, the Word of God in Luke 5:4 was the trigger for supernatural exploits for Peter. Remember, Peter was a fisherman who was earlier frustrated because he had laboured all night and caught nothing, but when the Word of the Lord came, it turned his frustration into celebration. He experienced a net-breaking and boat-sinking breakthrough as a result of the Word of God he received, believed and worked with. While the Word of God is master key to a world of exploits, it is our spiritual understanding that empowers the Word of God to deliver in our lives. Moreover, the Word will plainly deliver only to the measure of our understanding of it, because it is understanding that converts the Word to light. This is why we cannot have light from God’s Word and not do exploits in life. Therefore, walking in the light of God’s Word is a sure way to the realm of supernatural exploits.

Certainly, anybody who got any testimony got it through the engagement of light from the Word. This, I believe, is the difference between a shining believer and a suffering one. For instance, men of insight all through scriptures were men of exploits and were distinguished from their peers. For example, concerning Joseph, Pharaoh said ‘inasmuch as God has shown you’ (Genesis 41: 39). What God shows us is what makes us a show. We need to pray for the light of God’s Word in order to command exploits like Joseph. No wonder the devil does not want us to access the light because if we do, we will be in command of supernatural exploits.

In conclusion, the world is waiting for the manifestation of the sons of God. But only those with supernatural light (insight) from God’s Word can manifest as sons of God by commanding unusual exploits. Therefore, as you do, I see you moving unto next levels of exploits, in Jesus’ name! However, supernatural exploits in life is not for everybody but only reserved for the redeemed!
