  • The church has not failed Nigeria, says Adejumo

The Wife of the President of Agape Christain Ministries International, Rev. Funke Felix-Adejumo has dismissed insinuations the church has failed Nigeria.

He said Nigeria would have sunk if not for the sound teaching of Jesus and his principles for living, being taught in many churches.

She spoke with reporters at the banquet and grand launch of CEDARS House of Grace at the Grand Atrium, Lekki Expressway, Lagos.

She said the notion the church has failed is erroneous.

According to her: “The church has not failed at all. If not for the church, the nation would have been in a far worse condition of degeneration than it is currently.

“Do you know how many harlots would have beeb on the streets if not for the church?

“Do you know how many armed robbers will be out there or people begging for bread if not for the church?

“Government may fail but the church cannot fail. The church remains a pivotal agency of intervention and preservation from further societal decadence.

“We are doing so much and by God’s Grace, we will continue to do more.”

She lauded the launch of Cedars House of Grace, saying “another church is born. The church is marching on and the gates of hell cannot prevail.

“Only God knows the people that will be raised here today that will be in quarters that matter in calling, politics, career, businesses and more.”

Senior Pastor of the church, Rev.  Niyi Eboda, who was full of gratitudes for the launching of the church, said: “Our mandate is to raise a people of distinction, living off a life that is unending – the very life of God Himself”.

Eboda said the church is supposed to raise people who understand the importance of being value-adding citizens.

“We are called to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world. We are meant to solve problems not add to them,” he stressed.

On the general elections, Eboda said: “The church is supposed to raise people who are going to assume responsibility for the rebirth of our nation.

“Governance is a collective mandate and should not be seen as the sole responsibility of those being elected into offices.

“Everybody is a part of the process of governance. I also believe that not only must we raise people who are value-adding citizens, but also people who understand the importance of exercising their franchise in times like this.

“We should not fold our arms and keep complaining of things in the country. We are supposed to get actively involved and play our parts”.

  • Engaging the force of prayer for fulfillment of prophecy!

Welcome to the final teaching for the month! I hope you were blessed by the last teaching. Today, we shall focus on: Engaging the Force of Prayer for Fulfillment of Prophecy!

We understand from scriptures that prayer is a force in the hand of the believer when approached scripturally. It is one of God’s covenant tools for the realisation of our glorious destinies in Christ. Jesus told His disciples in Matthew 13:24-28: Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field: But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also. So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares? He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up? Everything contrary to good in the life of the believer is the work of the enemy. The devil is the believer’s number one enemy and the Bible warns us against him: Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8). So, behind that setback, that unending struggle and those continuous breakdowns is ‘an enemy’. But why is he so determined and hell-bent in seeing us fail? The Bible gives us the answer in Isaiah 5:1-2: Now will I sing to my wellbeloved a song of my beloved touching his vineyard. My wellbeloved hath a vineyard in a very fruitful hill: And he fenced it, and gathered out the stones thereof, and planted it with the choicest vine, and built a tower in the midst of it, and also made a winepress therein: and he looked that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes. That is why the enemy is interested in us! He is jealous because we are God’s choicest vine. By redemption, through the blood of Jesus, we are planted on a most fruitful hill. Not only that, we are fenced and protected. God has invested His best in us. The Bible also tells us in Psalm 92:13-14: Those that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing; No wonder the enemy is so jealous! He wants us down like himself. Just like he did not rest until he got Adam out of the Garden of Eden, he has vowed not to rest until he gets us off the course of our destiny. However, the devil can be stopped and arrested. Since force is the only language he understands, God has placed the force of prayer in our hands, to put him where he belongs.

How then can we engage the Force of Prayer for Fulfillment of Prophecy?

    • Arise: It takes knowledge to have victory in any conflict of life. The first thing we need to know in the war against the thief of our glorious destiny is that we must arise. As it is written: Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered: let them also that hate him flee before him (Psalm 68:1). If the enemies will not scatter until God arises, how then do we think they will scatter in our case without us arising? We can’t keep watching that unpleasant situation in our lives go on, we must arise. No matter how great the revelation we have received from God, if we don’t build up a resistance against the enemy, we will never have a breakthrough. God has spoken some things to us and we are sure of His leading and instructions, but the enemy is standing on the way, saying, ‘You won’t get in there.’ Then we need to arise to the challenge because if we do nothing, we will get nothing. If we fold our hands at the opposition, we will end up in stagnation and deprivation. Right now, certain forces might seem to be resisting every move we make or everything might seem to be working against us, in spite of all our input. I’m glad to let you know that prayer is a major force for fighting all oppositions off your territory and consequently triumphing in life. A time came in Matthew 17, when the disciples of Jesus could not cast out an evil spirit even though they had been empowered to do so in chapter 10. Satan was blocking their access to results in ministry. They asked Jesus “Why could not we cast him out?” He answered them saying: …Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting (Matthew 17:20-21). The three forces outlined for victory are faith, prayer and fasting. These forces enhance effectual prayers.

In summary, many erroneously think that in Christianity everything is delivered on a platter of gold, it is not so. Things don’t just happen; they are made to happen (1 Corinthians 1:9). However, being a Christian does not exempt us from warfare; it only gives us an edge over the opposition. Warfare is inevitable, but victory is guaranteed. So, the obstacles are real, the victories are also real. Thus, you must be born again. Are you born again? If you are not, this is an opportunity to do so. Simply say the following prayer: Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. Today, I accept You as my Lord and personal Saviour. Thank You Jesus for saving me! Now I know I am born again!” For further reading, please get my books: Winning Prayer, Satan Get Lost, and Born to Win. • Don’t sell your destiny, female cleric tells voters

The President of Kingdom Redemption Outreach Center International with headquarters in USA and branches all over the world, Apostle Faith Eden-Osakwe, has called on Nigerians not to sell their destinies to vote buying.

In a telephone conversation with our reporter, Eden-Osakwe said she desires to see a better Nigeria than what she used to know.

“The Nigeria I grew up in was a nation where we all celebrated Ramadan and Christmas together. Where we were free to walk on the streets without fear of being kidnapped or killed for rituals”

“I remember some of my neighbours who were idol worshippers. We all lived together with one purpose, the progress of our nations Nigeria. Please give me back my Nigeria even better,” she said.

She warned that a house divided against itself shall not stand, adding that those who want to Islamize or make Jewish out of Nigerians do not have their interest at heart.

“Don’t you see what they are doing to us? It’s all for  profit making. How many of you have a house in either nation or are you ready to live in a refugee camp?

“Leaving the comfort and freedom that you have behind. Why go live as a slave in a foreign land when we can together rise and take our nation back from those that want to put us in bondage of perpetual fear?”

She told those with their Permanent Voters Cards that the destiny of the country is in their hands, tasking them to go and vote for God has their best interest at heart.

“Don’t sell your vote. Don’t sell your destiny,” she counseled.

  • Elections, not do-or-die- Abiara

A former General Evangelist of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Prophet Samuel Abiara has appealed to politicians not to see the general elections as a do- or-die affair.

He advised them to rather exhibit the spirit of sportsmanship before and after the elections.

He gave this advice during the kick- off of the Abuja edition of the ‘Prayer for peace in the nation’ revival which held earlier in Ibadan and Lagos in January.

The programme kicked off at the CAC Agbala Itura, along Karimu Road, Kado Area, Abuja and ends today with a thanksgiving in the church.

According to him: “There is always life after elections. In developed climes, politicians don’t see themselves as enemies.

“You hardly hear of any conflict or violence before, during and after the elections over there.

“They remain friends and colleagues even after the elections must have been won and lost.

“Nigerian politicians must learn from this spirit of camaderie and sportsmanship always exhibited by politicians in advanced countries like the United States of America and United Kingdom.

“Also, I want to beg the INEC to make sure that the elections are free, fair and credible.

“We’ll continue to pray for peace in the nation, and for Nigerians.

“At this period of the elections, we need to pray. Nigeria has a glorious future.”

While he reiterated there was no gain in predicting doom for the nation, the cleric noted that prayers could change situations for good.

Abiara also advised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to organise a free, fair and credible during the 16th February and 2nd March elections.

  • Our success stories with ex-drug addicts, by CADAM

The Director General of Christ Against Drug Abuse Ministry (CADAM) Dr. Dokun Adedeji has attributed the huge successes recorded with ex-drug addicts to the influence of the word and strategic rehabilitation.

He said increased exposure of inmates in the facility located at Araga in Epe, Lagos to the word of God as well as well-conceived rehabilitation structured into two phases has been giving the ex-drug addicts a new lease of life.

Adedeji spoke last week with reporters during a tour of the large expanse of the facility run by the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).

He pointed out over 1,000 ex-addicts have been fully rehabilitated and taken off the drug chain by the organisation since its establishment.

Founded in 1991, the Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), CADAM began a residential rehabilitation programme for ex-addicts with attention on treatment and care.

On why the organisation has done so well, he said: “Our programme is split into two phases. The first phase is the phase of treatment and the second phase is rehabilitation and what we try to do is when people come here, we expose them to strict secular and spiritual supports.

“They have classes they do things by themselves. They even used to cook their meals by themselves until Mummy GO visited here in 2016.

“So she saw what we were using for rehabilitation centre it wasn’t like this before it was just two blocks it was then she decide that she was going to help us.

“She began to bump in money here got and architects to design so here we are by the grace and courtesy of mummy and God we are here.”

He thanked the General Overseer of RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, for providing the large expanse of land for the facility, which used to be in Gboka, Epe.

The support of the church’s highest leadership, he stated, is critical to the successes recorded in the facility, which houses over 400 inmates.

Adedeji also pointed out CADAM has the full complement of dedicated professionals, academics, social workers, psychologists, clinical psychologists, chaplains and care-givers as well as volunteers passionate about seeing transformed ex-addicts.

Aside from heavy spiritual support, the inmates also enjoy quality talk programmes and seminars from facilitators on why they should shun drug addiction.

The facilitators, he added, also engage the inmates in vocational courses for self-sufficiency after graduation.

Many of those who passed through CADAM, he disclosed have become doctors, nurses, lawyers, pilots with some of them becoming volunteers in the centre.

One of them, Mr. Babatunde Palemo, shared how he became a facilitator after 30 years as an addict.

“I was into drugs two-third of my life and for 27 years I took cocaine, marijuana, madrax, acidi and some other drugs.

“I also took pills and if I should add all together it should be about 30 years before grace found me.

“It has been exciting because I am using my mess to pass a message, challenging so many young ones to rise above the challenge. If God could save me, he will save them too.”

He stated drug users need help and support because trying to fight is not helpful.

He said many of them are only sick and not criminals, arguing it will be an injustice punishing a sick person.

A clinical psychologist, Folorunsho Stephen, said many of the beneficiaries are taken through assessment before, during and after treatment.

“Clinical psychologists conduct assessment to actually know how involved is the person in drugs and what kinds of psychological problems they suffer from like shame, depression, anxiety, rejection etc.

“We have group therapy and individual sessions. The group therapy combines while the individual session focuses on your particular need so that we can able to channels those energies and help to solve your own need in your own way looking at your own strength and your own weaknesses,” he stressed.

  • Prayer and fasting empowers fulfillment of Prophecy!

Welcome to another impactful week! I hope you were blessed by the last teaching. Today, we shall focus on: Prayer and Fasting Empowers Fulfillment of Prophecy!

From scriptures, we understand that prayer and fasting is a business for high level profiting but if we don’t know how to maximise it, we will get nothing out of it. So, it is not just listing our prayer items, it is   aligning the prayer items with the will of God. It is written: And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business (Luke 2:49). So, it is business engaging in Word practice because it is for our profiting (2 Timothy 3:16).  Thus, it is important for us to carry a business perspective of our walk with God as it will help us to be more productive in our engagement. Remember, not every prayer prayed is answered.  To secure our answers on the prayer altar, we must pray according to His will. His will connotes His Word, so we pray according to His Word regarding the issues we are presenting. The Bible says: Produce your cause, saith the Lord; bring forth your strong reasons, saith the King of Jacob (Isaiah 41:21). Strong reasons will come out of strong searches.

Also, as great as these prophetic words are, we have to clear the oppositions resisting the fulfillment of prophecies.   This is because every great door suffers great resistances. And if we don’t clear the resistances, we will just be singing them as a song; it will never come to reality. It will just be a slogan and that is why we are up in prayer and fasting to clear oppositions off our possessions, so we can realise them (1 Corinthians 16:9). So, there is no form of resistance that can spite the authority of the combined forces of faith, prayer and fasting.

Why Then Do We Pray and Fast?

    • To Overpower all the Opposing Forces on the Path of our Glorious Destiny in Christ: The Bible says: Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting (Matthew 17:21). So, we fast to overpower all resisting forces against our glorious destiny in Christ.
    • To Generate and Build Spiritual Strength into our Spirit man against the day of Battle: We fast to build spiritual energy reserves against the day of battle. As it is written: Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint (Isaiah 40:28-31). So, waiting upon the Lord renews our strength, recharges us, re-energizes us and builds up energy reserves into our Spirit against the day of battle (Proverbs 24:10).
    • To Provoke Speedy Divine Intervention: Our God is a present help in time of need and He said He will help us. So when we experience delay, they are those forces that are against our restoration and we break them in a fast. It is written: Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the Lord shall be thy rearward (Isaiah 58: 8). Hence, things answer with speed in a fast. God can answer our prayers without fasting, but whether we take delivery of the answers is another question. So, we engage in a fast to clear off the obstructions on the way, so we can take speedy delivery of what belongs to us.

Blessings that Accrue to us in Prayer and Fasting

    • Outbreak of Revelation: Every outstanding breakthrough we notice in the Kingdom is a product of outbreak of revelation. The Bible says: Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the Lord shall be thy rearward. …then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noonday (Isaiah 58:8/10). Prayer and fasting provides a platform for outbreak of revelation. So, when revelation is bright enough, speed is the experience.

Empowers our Access to the High Places of Life: It is written: Then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it  (Isaiah 58:14). So, prayer and fasting is a spiritual platform for our flight into the high places of life.

Empowers Speedy Fulfilment of Prophecy: Jesus was declared the son of God in Luke 3:21-22. As it is written:: Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened, And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased. So, it was after fasting He took delivery of that fulfilment of prophecy. We are in the era of restoration in the body of Christ because there must be restoration of all things which were spoken by the mouth of the prophet before Jesus returns.

In conclusion, prayer and fasting will be wasteful without faith. As it is written: But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him (Hebrews 11:6).  Faith is our covenant signature for taking delivery of our possessions in Christ. Therefore, we must build our faith for prophecies to be fulfilled in our lives. However, you must be born again. • Polls: Nigeria needs mercy, says Adeboye

The General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God, (RCCG) Pastor Enoch Adeboye has appealed to Christians to pray for God’s mercy before, during and after the general elections.

Adeboye said this at the February edition of the Special Prayer and Thanksgiving service for parents, guardians, single mothers, mature youths and their families at RCCG, Throne of Grace Parish, National Headquarters, Ebute-Metta, Lagos.

He said that Christians should pray before, during and especially after the election for God’s load of mercy for hitch -free elections.

Adeboye said: “It’s an obligation and a commandment from God that we should vote.

“We are already praying as a church for mercy, we are in the mood of fasting till the end of the election.

He stressed Nigerians should not entertain any fear “because the country is in the hand of God and we have been praying for mercy and God must show us His mercy.

“People should be bold because many a times, the fear of what does not exist only comes to peoples’ mind.”

Adeboye, who spoke through the Assistant General Overseer, (RCCG) Personnel and Administration Pastor Johnson Odesola, charged candidates to educate their supporters that it is only in the atmosphere of peace that we can move forward or govern the people.

“There is no cause for fear because God has promised to give us peace but the people that are seeking political offices should preach peace instead of violence.

“Political office is not do- or- die, democracy is government of the people, for the people and by the people,” he said.

Adeboye noted that if a political office seeker fails this time, he can come back and win if he succeeds in convincing voters.

  • Seven-point developmental agenda for would-be elected President

    Mr. President-Elect,

I want to congratulate you on your election as the President of the nation Nigeria.

Majority of Nigerians have demonstrated their trust in you and in your ability to change the nation for the better by electing you into the office of the President for this term 2019 – 2023, which are four determining years for our nation.

They are years that will determine our fate; whether we will experience the development and rapid growth that we all envisage and anticipate or remain in this deplorable state or even deteriorate.

In prayers about eight years ago, the LORD promised me that when Nigeria is 60, it would begin to enjoy rapid development, just like Isaiah 60.

Jerusalem, stand up! Shine! Your new day is dawning. The glory of the LORD shines brightly on you.

The earth and its people are covered with darkness, but the glory of the LORD is shining upon you. Nations and kings will come to the light of your dawning day. Open your eyes! Look around! Crowds are coming. Your sons are on their way from distant lands; your daughters are being carried like little children. When you see this, your faces will glow; your hearts will pound and swell with pride. Treasures from across the sea and the wealth of nations will be brought to you.

    Isaiah 60: 1-5 (CEV)

Nigeria would be 60 next year, and I believe you have been brought into power for such a time as this. The question therefore is, will you yield yourself to the will of God to bring us into this glory? Will you be that hero that Nigerians will live to remember?

We cannot afford another four years of setbacks, corruption and under development. If we would ever get it right, this is the time and you have been uniquely positioned to lead the charge and steer this ship called Nigeria into the future!

I woke up three weeks ago from a vision, with the voice of the Lord speaking to me. Take note that I am not an Economist, neither am I a politician.

But as a prophet of God, I only speak what I have heard and seen. And what the Lord spoke to me is a simple summary that brings to the fingertips what we need to focus on as a nation.

He said to me, demand and supply affect price. When demand is excess of supply, prices go up. Although this sounds like a simple economic theory, yet pay attention to what He said next. Then He said to me, when demand is in excess of supply, it leads to shortage. Shortage leads to desperation, and desperation in turn leads to corruption and inflation. The final result is poverty.

The reason for poverty in your country, the Lord said to me, is because the demand for everything is always more than the supply. The demand for housing is more than the availability of houses. The demand for education is more than the supply of schools. The demand for transportation is more than its supply.

The demand for jobs is more than the availability of jobs. Therefore, to develop your nation, he further said to me, build infrastructures that make supply in excess of demand and focus on these seven areas.

Then he highlighted to me the seven infrastructures that our nation must develop. Please note that I have added scriptures and a little research to enhance these points.

    1. Learning Infrastructure:

“Destruction has overtaken my people because they have no knowledge;”

    – Hosea 4:6 (CEV)

With an estimated 13.2 million children out of school, over 35 million illiterate adult population, prevalent infrastructural deficit and decay at our schools, underpaid teachers, and less than 10% budgetary allocation to education, the education sector in Nigeria continues to suffer neglect and requires urgent attention.

In 2017 alone, only about 550,000 out of over 1.8 Million candidates who sat for the University Matriculation Examination were offered admission into tertiary institutions, reducing the prospect of our nation’s workforce by 1.3Million Nigerian youths in that particular year alone.

Something drastic has to be done to save this abysmal situation. This is why providing and improving access to qualitative education for all Nigerians should not just be a campaign promise, but must be the foremost empowerment pursuit of our government.

An increase in the number and quality of our learning infrastructure will ultimately increase Human Capital Development and help us to produce the caliber of minds we need to develop our nation.

In addition to this, there should be specialised schools for every trade to cater for multi-disciplinary pursuits in human capital development of our nation. We therefore need to revisit our educational system and revise our curriculum from primary to tertiary level, basing its content on the necessary information and training set that can fit into the 21st century market place, thereby producing the human capital necessary and sufficient to build the nation we desire. There is also the need to build sufficient schools at all levels and fields, and adequately fund their operations, granting autonomy where necessary, while also financing citizens to school through sponsored education programmes and scholarships.

We must say no to barbaric systems and bottlenecks that prevent private sector participation in the development of our education system. We must be open to public-private partnership at every level and in every state.

Mr. President, I know you know this, but it is not just something to debate or delegate to the office of the Minister of Education. It should be your heart cry, and every Nigerian must participate, down to the Local Government level in prioritizing this educational reform.

    1. Working Infrastructure:

If you don’t sharpen your axe, it will be harder to use; if you are smart, you’ll know what to do.

    . – Ecclesiastes 10:10 (CEV)

As at the last quarter of 2018, Business Day analysts put labour productivity in Nigeria at under $2 per hour, underlining the need for urgent measures to boost the productivity of the Nigerian workforce. In this age where many developed and developing nations continue to leverage on ICT and artificial intelligence for enhanced productivity, it is sad to note our continued reliance on obsolete technologies in offices, schools, and government parastatals.

The provision of state of the art technologies in our schools, ministries, research institutions, etc would go a long way to improve working conditions and boost the productivity of our workforce, so that our work processes can be simplified, swift and effective.

Also, working environment should be clean and customer friendly with well qualified personnel offering services without unnecessary bottlenecks, red-tapes and bureaucratic roadblocks.

    1. Investment Infrastructure:

The business climate in Nigeria at the moment can be said to be quite hostile and discouraging to local entrepreneurs and would be investors. For instance, our ICT professionals are arguably amongst the best globally, but the lack of conducive business environment has continued to see massive brain drain from the sector to other nations like India, Mauritius, USA and South Africa where their counterparts have greater access to funds and government backed resources and schemes that encourage innovation.

The same cannot be said about Nigeria as only a few months ago, the Federal Government was said to have outsourced the logo design of the national carrier, Nigeria Air, to a Bahraini company. This is just one out of several instances. But in charting a way forward, we must demonstrate our readiness to promote, protect and encourage local entrepreneurs.

Also, investors around the world continue to look for viable investment opportunities and locations. Nigeria should be strategically positioned to leverage on our abundant natural resources, human capital and geographical advantage. We can learn from the success story of Dubai which has successfully diversified its economy to ensure that despite its large oil reserves, oil revenues only account for 5% of the total GDP.

Also, some other nations like Kenya have successfully established their tourism sector as a major source of revenue. We need to create an enabling environment for foreign investments to thrive by making policies that encourage innovation, facilitate investment and create a business friendly environment while protecting our local interests.

    1. Transport Infrastructure:

Commerce thrives when transportation network is in excellent shape, as the supply of goods and services is largely predicated upon the transport infrastructure in a country, but the current narrative in Nigeria is nothing to write home about. For instance, it is far cheaper to transport goods from Europe to Nigeria than it is to transport same goods from Ikeja to Apapa wharf within Lagos, due to the Apapa traffic gridlock that has defied solutions for several years now.  According to findings by a think-tank, the Apapa gridlock of January to September 2018 “resulted in N15bn – N36bn in forgone profit” for one of Nigeria’s leading food business firm alone.

Note that the impact on capital plus cost of funds in the same industry was not even considered in the research. Other industries were also not considered, and this is besides other losses owing to the deplorable state of our roads and airports.

This narrative must be urgently reversed. We can no longer look the other way: our aviation industry, railways, road networks and ports should get the needed renovation and upgrade to support, sustain and expedite the flow of resources within the nation so as to return Nigeria to the path of economic growth and development.

    1. Life Infrastructure:

A glad heart makes a healthy body, but a crushed spirit makes the bones dry.

    – Proverbs 17:22 (BBE)

When anyone chooses to live in this country, will he feel safe and happy to live here? Will he have access to adequately equipped healthcare facilities when he is sick, recreational centers when he chooses to relax, insurance cover for losses, security for his life and properties, and other amenities that guarantees him a good life?

The life expectancy in Nigeria may have risen above 50 in the last year, but the growing number of deaths in the North East and North Central due to acts of terrorism, especially from the notorious Boko Haram sect and the rampaging Fulani Herdsmen has remained worrisome. Many who have the means would rather relocate abroad than remain to develop our nation. This should not be allowed to continue.

We must place a priority value on the life of the individual Nigerian by pursuing healthcare provision, food and drugs administration and control, crime fighting, and promotion of policies that protect human lives and values in a bid to improve the quality of life and standard of living of every Nigerian. It is our responsibility to make Nigeria a place where everyone can have a good life.

Let’s not continue to waste time arguing and fighting, debating and making long speeches. I call on the Senate to make it a daily point of duty to make laws that will see all these things becoming a reality. The Senate should in sincerity compare the average cost of governance in this country to that of their counterparts in other nations. If this is done we will see a gross reduction in the cost of governance which has made political office a hot cake and our elections a do or die affair. Let us shun partisan divide and the temptation to use our offices to only enrich ourselves and our families. We must remember that no matter how much we have and how many buildings and properties we acquire overseas, your money can never change your nationality. Therefore, a poor Nigerian is a Nigerian. A rich Nigerian is equally a Nigerian.

If Nigerians are depicted as bad people, then with all your riches, you are just another rich bad man. With this understanding, let us make the name Nigeria something every Nigerian would be proud of, and that the world will seek to associate with. May God give us this understanding.

    1. Production Infrastructure:

The energy crisis, which has engulfed Nigeria as a whole has continued to have paralyzing effects on industrial and commercial activities in the country, and it continues to be one of the reasons for the spiking cost of production.

Also, access to finance has continued to bedevil the production sector of our economy. The cost of money which translates to the interest due over a loan period in Nigeria ranges from 5% to 30%, making it very difficult to access funds that can be used to build or grow profitable businesses. In 2017 alone, the Manufacturing Association of Nigeria puts the number of major firms that closed up due to recession to 272. This is in addition to 45 that closed down in 2016 as a result of foreign exchange restrictions.

We must therefore focus on tackling the shortage of power supply and lack of funding as a matter of national emergency while creating both the policies and the environment that enables businesses to thrive in these next four years. To do this, we must shun nepotism in appointing officials to oversee the power sector, focusing on qualification and experience, issuing deadlines for these changes that we want to see. If we take the issue of power for example, when would we have uninterrupted power? There should be a specified date of completion, the most qualified persons assigned to the job and backed with the necessary power to break through the barrier set by the cabals who benefit from the epileptic power situation in the country.

    1. Justice Infrastructure:

When we see criminals commit crime after crime without being punished, it makes us want to start a life of crime.

    – Ecclesiastes 8:11 (CEV)

The aforementioned infrastructures cannot operate successfully without a viable justice infrastructure. Nigeria has to be a place where people have confidence in the judicial system.

In the present day Nigeria however, the average Nigerian would rather let go of wrongs done against him because it is always cheaper, easier and less stressful to let the wrongdoer alone than to involve the Nigerian Police or to seek redress in the law court. It is because of this that crime rate is on the increase. Also, there are those who perpetuate evil because they know that nobody will prosecute them. In this term, people should know that the long arms of the law will always catch up with those who do wrong.

It is also the opinion of many that our Nigerian Police and justice system is largely available for rent, as many Nigerians continue to groan as a result of abuse of power by members of the Armed Forces and the political ruling class, with little or no respite coming from the judiciary.

Every Nigerian has a right to fair hearing. Those who are arrested should be given swift hearing at our courts and not remanded in prison unjustly. Cases like Tammy’s abounds, who according to Divine Life Foundation was arrested on the eve of his wedding in a mass raid in Oshodi area following the murder of a prominent political figure years back, and had to stay in jail for 15 years without trial, only to be released during a prison decongestion exercise without hope of ever finding justice for his unlawful detention. This is an aberration that must be corrected.

I want to put it in our conscience as a people that if only we can focus on building these seven infrastructures within this four year tenure, we would be able to put Nigeria on the right path towards economic growth and development.

Also Mr. President, I would like you to know that with your new tenure would come certain temptations, but we are praying for you that you would make the right decision always.

    1. Beware of the temptation of persecution: run an inclusive government:

With your victory at the polls, and with the pressing problems of Nigeria which we just mentioned, you cannot afford to waste time persecuting those who criticized you, those who campaigned harshly against you and those who simply withheld their votes from you. As the newly elected leader of the nation, reach out to them and let them know that though they criticized you, they did it out of their love for Nigeria. Acknowledge and implement some great ideas that they might have which can move Nigeria forward. It is only when united that we can stand.

    1. Beware of the temptation of playing politics; focus on governance: While it is true that politics brought you into office, it is only through governance that you can achieve feats that will move Nigeria forward. Do not be tempted to administer the nation along party, religious or ethnic lines. You came into office to serve the people, focus on delivering on your campaign promises to the nation, and running a government without prejudice, nepotism or bigotry.

Let me also use this opportunity to speak to our older politicians; the present clamour by young politicians not to be mentored by older politicians but to replace them, is a shame to our political system. The elders should rule well and mentor the younger to replace them. The wisdom and experience of the elders ought to be built upon by the younger. But in Nigeria, everyone feels that the problem we have is caused by the older politicians, which is a shame. Look at the United States or British Senate for example, you would find elder statesmen who over the years have served in several capacities and are currently still serving, using their experience to further the nation’s course. Therefore, age is really not our problem, but it is as though our elders have forgotten that success is not money but the succession you create. The younger politicians ought to be inspired by the older ones, and in due course succeed them, not to be in rebellion against them. This is not a good sign.

    1. Beware of the temptation of nepotism: focus on making sacrifices for the nation: Nigeria is at a critical time, and we have a short time to enter into where we must be. As the person at the helm of affairs, the onus lies on you to lead Nigeria into that place. God has elevated you into the highest office in the land, and placed you as a steward over all the nation’s resources. Do not be tempted to build an empire around yourself and those who may have sponsored your campaign. Instead, assemble and work with the best team, and be guided by the resolution to give Nigeria something that was not there before with each passing month.

Although you have assumed the leadership of the nation at a critical time when many around the world continue to perceive our nation as a corrupt system, I want to reassure you that dealing with the problem of corruption is not as difficult as many people think. In fact, it does not need to be fought with military might or a violent revolution as some people might like to presume. Instead, it can be fought with two simple measures that you can help put in place.

    1. Do not be corrupt: As the number one citizen of Nigeria, if you eschew corruption, you can set a precedent that others can follow. And the systems you design and put in place will be devoid of corruption. You cannot tout anti-corruption slogans while you yourself adopt corrupt practices in the discharge of your duties.
    2. Do not tolerate corruption within your inner circle and among your officials. It is not enough for you not to be corrupt. You must also create checks and balances to ensure that those who work with you directly are not corrupt, and that corruption is not tolerated. Also, do not use the fight against corruption as a witch hunt against your political opponents, activist or clerics. Be open to criticisms, and if possible, invite those that oppose you to a discussion table to see if you can find a common ground.

Finally, Mr. President, a golden opportunity is before you to be remembered in the annals of Nigeria’s history as the hero of Nigeria. Will you be remembered alongside the likes of Nelson Mandela of South Africa, Lee Kuan Yew of Singapore, Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum of Dubai, Abraham Lincoln of America, and Winston Churchill of Britain? Men whose names now outlive them because they chose change and development, rather than personal gain.

May the LORD bless you and cause His wisdom to be in your heart. May He protect you and give you favour in the league of nations, support among your people, the wisdom of Solomon, and above all, may Nigeria join the league of developed nations at the end of your tenure, that your name may be written amongst the heroes past.

May God bless you and may God bless our fatherland Nigeria.

  • Cleric canvasses politics without violence to younger generation

The Senior Pastor, God’s Kingdom Christian Centre, Mr John Kome, has urged politicians to bequeath righteousness and politics without violence to the younger generation.

Kome, also an African Democratic Congress (ADC) House of Assembly candidate for Ikeja Constituency, made the appeal at news conference on Sunday in Lagos.

“If blood shedding and bloodletting are what our older politicians are bequeathing to our younger generation, then the future of our youths is bleak,’’ the ADC candidate said.

Kome also called on security agencies to help checkmate the wave of political killings in some parts of the country.

The ADC candidate promised to promote righteous laws and people-friendly policies, if elected.

“I will make sure I stand by righteous policies and laws, I am going
to stand against anything that will stand against the people I am representing.

“If there is any law inhibiting the growth, development and well-being of the people that I am representing, I will stand against it.

“I am going to represent Nigerians, not just the Christians but also
    the Muslims alike,” he said.

The cleric said he was in politics to secure a better platform to touch
    people’s lives.

“When our youths are jobless there will be increase in crimes, what the youths need is an entrepreneurial mindset.

“What the youths needs is to graduate and not look for white collar jobs,’’ the cleric said.
