  • Should men of God entangle themselves in politics?

Dictionary definition of politicking is to be engaged in political activity, such as seeking votes. Politicking is an act of intrigues and manoeuvres. A politician, therefore, is one who seeks the votes of the electorates through intrigues and manoeuvres.

Jesus made it very clear that His disciples are not of this world, even as He was not of this world. And we all know that politicking is of the world, and it is not of God but of the devil, who is the prince of this world and its vain-glories.

Jesus Christ resisted every temptation of the devil, to entice Him with the kingdoms of the world and the glory of them (Matthew 4:8-10). Jesus also resisted every attempt by the people to make Him a king by force (John 6:15).

In Judges 9:7-15, Jotham, one of the sons of Gideon, spoke a parable: “The trees went forth on a time to anoint a king over them; and they said unto the olive tree, Reign thou over us. But the olive tree said unto them, Should I leave my fatness, wherewith by me they honour God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees?

“And the trees said to the fig tree, Come thou, and reign over us. But the fig tree said unto them, Should I forsake my sweetness, and my good fruit, and go to be promoted over the trees? Then said the trees unto the vine, Come thou, and reign over us. And the vine said unto them, Should I leave my wine, which cheereth God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees?

“Then said all the trees unto the bramble, Come thou, and reign over us. And the bramble said unto the trees, If in truth ye anoint me king over you, then come and put your trust in my shadow: and if not, let fire come out of the bramble, and devour the cedars of Lebanon.”

The olive tree, the fig tree and the vine tree, in this parable, are symbolic and can be likened to those men of God, who have a divine calling and recognise the importance of a life of consecration to their divine assignment.  So, they will not want to be distracted from their divine assignment by any other earthly assignment.

The bramble in this parable can be likened to anyone without divine calling in the Lord’s vineyard, and so, will not mind to get himself involved in politicking. Men of God, who actually have a divine calling, are soldiers, who have been chosen by Jesus, the Commander of the army of heaven.

They are always at war with the unseen forces of the land, and so, if they must please Jesus, they cannot entangle themselves in the affairs of this life, one of which is politicking (2 Timothy 2:4).

Any man of God, who is in politics, cannot escape the friendship of the world, and being a friend of the world. Such a man of God is an adulterer and an enemy of God (James 4:4.)

Jesus said in John 18:36 His kingdom was not of this world. So also the kingdom of genuine men of God and of all the saints of God, is not of this world. Their kingdom is yet to come, when they shall reign with Christ as kings and priests (Revelation 5:10).

Genuine men of God and genuine Christians who are into politicking, and who desire to enter heaven, are therefore warned by the Almighty God to come out from amongst these politicians and be separate and never to touch their unclean thing.

  • Gaining spiritual command for dominion!

Welcome to another impactful week! I believe you were blessed by the last teaching. Today, we shall focus on: Gaining Spiritual Command for Dominion!

From Scriptures, we understand that every child of God has a great destiny in Christ. We are not redeemed to be pitied but to be envied by the world. As it is written: For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist (Luke 21:15). However, the devil raises several oppositions to deny us access to our glorious destinies in Christ; hence, as great as our destinies are, so are the oppositions against them. The only way to deal with this adversary is to take command of the outcome of our lives. We must understand that God does not only want us to have spiritual turnarounds but also to be physically, mentally, psychologically, financially and emotionally sound. Therefore, we must know how to deal with the adversary or our colourful destinies may remain shut. We need to understand that we cannot gain or give out command without authority. The word “command” connotes exercise of authority, and except we walk in the steps of giants, we cannot command results after their order.

The Centurion met Jesus and said: …speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed. For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this and he doeth it. And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour (Matthew 8:8-9/13). In the above scripture, there was an instant turnaround in operation and that came from a source of authority. We must understand that we have authority, but we cannot exercise it without being under the superior authority of the One that gives all things. That means, as believers, we have authority in Christ, but to command authority we must subject and submit ourselves to the Source, which is God. Also, as heirs of the Kingdom of God, we are redeemed to be kings and to reign on the earth (Revelation 5:9-10).

How then, Can We Gain Spiritual Command for Dominion?

    • Take the Sword of the Word: Authority cannot be acquired or attained; it can only be conferred. In Matthew 21:23, the Jews questioned the authority of Jesus saying: …By what authority doest thou these things? And who gave thee this authority? Authority is exercised by the word coming from the Source of the authority. Jesus gave His disciples power and authority over all devils and to cure all diseases. He gave them power, but that power became effectual by the authority He conferred on them. One may crave, thirst and fast for power, but authority is only conferred. We cannot fast or pray for it; it can only be received by the sent Word. Hence, the authority that gives us command over all circumstances and situations can only be conferred on us by the Holy Ghost.
    • Possess a True Knowledge of Your Identity: A discovery of our actual identity in Christ empowers us to exercise authority. We need to know who we are, or we will never gain command. Our level of authority is a function of our depth of understanding about our position in Christ. As believers, we must seek to have access to the mysteries of God’s Word, because the clarity of our picture from the Word determines our clarity of command in the supernatural. If we can see our worth through the Scriptures and activate ourselves into the flow from the Word, we will begin to command authority for definite turnarounds after the order of Abraham (John 8:39; Isaiah 51:2).
    • Know the Source of Command: Knowing the source of our command helps to boost our confidence. Jesus is always on key and ever in control. He said, “As I hear,” meaning He worked as directed by the Father. Jesus said in John 5:26-27: For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself; And hath given him authority….Even though by redemption, we are positioned to take charge, it takes a word from the Lord to gain command. “As I hear”, not “as I read”, or “as they said.” “As I hear from the Father, so I determine and decide what happens and I am always in charge.”Therefore, our source of command is a word from the Lord, which will terminate every struggle of life and empower us to take charge of our situations.
    • Engage the Holy Spirit: He is the Carrier, Communicator and Transmitter of the power of God. He is the power from on high and whatever is from above is above all. Therefore, when confronted with any issue of concern, we can always engage the invincible force of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, nothing is permitted to resist our progress, success, accomplishments, exploits or breakthroughs, when the Holy Spirit is at work. For it is written: Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you (Luke 10:19). The Holy Ghost is the person behind the mystery of the Word that gives us mastery. He is called the Teacher! He teaches and gives us understanding of every scripture that makes us capture our future in the Scriptures, because He will remind us of our sent Word so we can war with it (John 14:26).

In conclusion, new birth is not a religious experience; it is a spiritual transformation into divinity. It is the importation of divine nature into the human vessel. It is not enough to be born again, we must be conscious of the worth of our salvation. This is what distinguishes us from others who claim to be believers. Are you born again? If you are not, this is an opportunity to do so. Simply say the following prayer: Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. Today, I accept You as my Lord and personal Saviour. Thank You Jesus for saving me! Now, I know I am born again!” For further reading, please get my books: Turnaround Power of the Word, The Force of Freedom, Walking in Dominion, Satan Get Lost, Born to Win and Fulfilling your Days. • Don’t drag Nigeria backward, Olumakaiye begs Atiku, PDP

The Diocesan Bishop of Lagos Anglican Communion, Rt Rev Humphrey Olumakaiye, has called on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to challenge the just- concluded presidential election as good patriots but avoid dragging the nation backwards.

This, he said, is because Nigerians have taken a bold step and “we must continue to move forward as a country”.

Olumakaiye spoke at the centenary rally in commemoration of the Centenary celebration of the Diocese recently at TBS, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Thousands of Diocesans from 14 Archdeaconries participated in the colourful display with various floats, radiant dresses, decorations and rich cultural presentations.

He said that Nigerians must pray and thank God for what he has done for us.

“When God says yes, nobody can say no. God has spoken and it is for every one of us to come together as one and accept the will of God.

“God has appointed a leader for us and it is important that we cooperate with the new government and move the nation forward by making sure that we are also patients that at the end of the tunnel, there will be light,” he stressed.

Olumakaiye noted that although it is within the rights of Atiku and the PDP to contest the presidential results in court, he said “they must not drag us backwards as Nigerians have taken a bold step and have spoken with their vote.”

He appealed for calm and patience because “God is not done yet with Nigeria and respite will come soon.”

On the centenary celebration, he said: “It is designed to be celebrated throughout this year and it is targeted at fostering a more cordial relationship among members as they look forward to establishing something that the coming generations will also appreciate us for.”

He pointed out the rally was set toward “showing to the world although we are from different tribes, languages and colour, we are one and there is no other face of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Olumakaiye charged the body of Christ to endeavour to always promote the virtues of peace, love unity and mutual understanding within their neighbourhood.

He said the “true Christian faith is a life lived in love. Christ died to reconcile us back to God.

“The ministry of reconciliation is not limited and we must continue to work on it not only in the church but in the society.”

  • Ambode, Sanwo-Olu for Lagos CAN’s IDDS

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and Governor-Elect Babajide Sanwo-Olu are expected at the 2019 Inter-Denominational Divine Service (IDDS) of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Lagos State chapter.

It holds on Saturday, March 23 at The Shepherd Hill Baptist Church Obanikoro, Lagos.

Lagos CAN chairman Apostle Alexander Bamgbola told reporters on Friday that the theme of the programme is “Walking in the perfect image of God”.

He said: “Once in a year, the entire body of Christ, under the umbrella of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Lagos State, comes together, historically on the 2nd Saturday of the month of February to have a solemn assembly of prayers and thanksgiving, unto the Lord

“It is important to emphasise that the five blocs of CAN cover all Christian denominations: Catholic, Anglican, Methodist, Baptist, Presbyterian, African Church, The Apostolic and Christ Apostolic Churches and all the Pentecostal churches, under the umbrella of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria.

“On this one day, Christians of every denomination come together in one spirit and one accord to pray, praise and worship Jehovah The Almighty God.”

Bamgbola pointed out it would be a great time of unity and oneness in fellowship with the Lord Jesus Christ.

“Signs and wonders always accompany this singular event in an unusual way, because of the mighty presence of the Lord God Jehovah.

“Furthermore, it is a time to give thanks to God specially, for the peace and prosperity of LAGOS State, our own Jerusalem.

“This year we decided to postpone the date of the IDDS till after the elections, while the church remained fervently prayerful in the interim.

“It is therefore a momentous occasion of thanksgiving and praises to God, for the peaceful elections in Lagos State and across the landscape of Nigeria.’’

The guest preacher is His Eminence, the Catholic Arcbishop of Lagos, Rt. Rev Alfred Adewale Martins.

  • Joshua Iginla controversy: When pastors fall from grace

When Pastors fall from their exalted position, their church councils are expected to call them to order. Omolara Akintoye examines whether pastors who committed immoral acts should still continue as General Overseers of their churches

The duties of Pastors and ministers are almost limitless as leaders of church congregations. Pastors provide counsel or support to church members in a variety of ways. Offering advice or counsel during challenging times or for pre-marital couples is common.

More importantly, pastors are expected to lead by example and to challenge church members to follow biblical principles, they are expected to maintain a higher standard of behaviour to effectively guide others. But when such high standard behaviour is lacking then what should the church do about it?

Such is the case of the popular Abuja-based pastor, Joshua Iginla, who has admitted that he and his wife, Yemisi, had children out of wedlock.

Iginla, who is the Senior Pastor of Champions Royal Assembly, who spoke to his congregation during a Sunday service, said when his wife brought an illegitimate child into their home, he forgave her, but that she refused to forgive him when he had his own child with another woman.

It was also in the news that the self-proclaimed Prophet Joshua Iginla married Stella Zimasa Ndamase, (his baby Mama) who is pregnant with his second child. Iginla had recently announced that his marriage to Yemisi had crashed because he made the mistake of having a baby mama.

The Prophet however forgot to add that he married his baby mama as far back as October 2014 in a Civil Marriage. In fact, it is reported that she is carrying a second pregnancy for him. The first child is named Rhema.

The Baby Mama Stella Zimasa Ndamase Iginla who is from South Africa is whispered to be ‘’so rich she does not know what to do with money.’’

    Solving a spiritual riddle

Stories abound of so many men of God in developing countries who after having committed immoral act, rather than stepping aside continue to preside in that spiritual capacity, this no doubt is a wrong signal to the body of Christ and the society at large.

The question is what should Pastors or Minister of God who have fallen from such exalted position as a result of immoral act do, should they continue to preside over their congregation in that spiritual capacity?  Pastor of Apostolic Impact Ministries, Abuja, Emmanuel Adeyomoye, is of the view that “When someone is found to have committed immoral act, such a person steps down from leadership, because leadership either spiritual or physical is a respectable and a responsible office. So if a leader is caught in an immoral act, not only sexual immorality, it could also be financial immorality, I mean misappropriation of funds, he should step down from that position of leadership until proper investigation is carried out. If he is found guilty, then he should be prosecuted according to the law and if found to be clean, then he can be restored to his position. But in this case, it is a spiritual matter so that he will not begin to celebrate sin in the body of Christ. He should step down so that people will not begin to abuse such office by believing that they can commit such immoral act and get away with it, by saying if that Pastor can commit immorality and get away with it then how much more me a worker or an ordinary member?”

According to Adeyomoye, it is important for the Church Council to take the necessary disciplinary action so that it does not send a wrong signal to the body of Christ, anybody can go and mess up and come back to pretend as if nothing has happened. “He might be the General Overseer of his church but he is not the God of that church, he should step down and go and reconcile back to his God, repent of his sin. Then if the church has a council that is independent from his authority, they must ensure that he steps down and in the process must see a measure of repentance and remorse in their Pastor who will now reinstate him. His reinstatement must be done by the council who will tell the church the true part of the story and the woman concerned must be given a fair hearing to be able to defend herself.”

He warned that this might make some men in that church to begin to do anything to their wives knowing full well that they can get away with it. “It is a spiritual matter and must be handled that way. For him to have the moral standing to stand before the congregation, to be able to truly deliver God’s counsel and message,  he should stop defending himself, rather he should own up by saying that he has committed the act and that he is sorry and step down for as long as the council wants. Else it will give room for immoral act to thrive in the body of Christ.”

On her own part, the General Overseer, Divine Souls for Christ Church International, Lagos, Bishop Dr. Joy Oberiko, said the Pastor needs to ask God for mercy because he has committed adultery.  He must realize the fact that he has sinned against God, and then confess before God and the congregation. But if he continues in the sin then something is wrong with him, whether he is the General Overseer or the Pastor, he should not be cast away, he needs to ask for forgiveness. But if he did it intentionally because his wife had committed the offence in the past, then there is no doubt that he will continue in such sins,” she said.

For Pastor Adetokunbo Emmanuel of Grace Missions International, he is of the opinion that gross sin among Christian leaders is a signal that something is seriously wrong with the church. “But an even greater problem is the lowering of standards to accommodate a leader’s sin. That the church is so eager to bring these men back into leadership is a symptom of rottenness at the core.”

He added, “Some have claimed that a leader’s failure makes him more effective in shepherding fallen people. That is ludicrous. Should we drag the bottom of sin’s cesspool for the most heinous sinners to lead the church? Are they better able to understand the sinner? Certainly not! Our pattern for ministry is the sinless Son of God. The church is to be like Him and her leaders are to be our models of Christlikeness.

“We must recognize that leadership in the church cannot be regarded lightly. The foremost requirement of a church leader is that He be above reproach according to1 Timothy 3:2, 10; Titus 1:7. We must try as much as possible to be without reproach and should that happen, he should step down for a while to undergo disciplinary action,” he said.

American Pastors who fell from grace and had to step aside

There are notable examples of American leaders who fell into immoral act and had to step down for a while they include:

William Hybels: He is the founding and former Senior Pastor of Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington, Illinois, one of the most attended churches in North America, with an average attendance of nearly 24,000 as of late 2018. Hybels is also an author of a number of Christian books, especially on the subject of Christian leadership. He resigned early after allegations of sexual misconduct were made against him, though he has denied all allegations.

Ted Haggard: Haggard is an American evangelical pastor of the New Life Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado. A founder of the Association of Life-Giving Churches; and was leader of the National Association of Evangelicals from 2003 until November 2006. In 2006, a male escort named Mike Jones publicly claimed that Haggard had been a client for years. Not only that, Haggard had allegedly used crystal meth in front of his male lover. Ted Haggard was forced to resign from his church. Following his downfall, he attempted a form of conversion therapy and embraced his heterosexual side. His wife stood by Haggard during the scandal.

Jim Bakker: He was perhaps the most popular televangelist in the 1980s, though his wife Tammy Faye gave him a run for his money. That all ended when Bakker was brought down by an enormous scandal that included sexual abuse and fraud. In 1987, Bakker’s secretary publicly accused the televangelist of raping and drugging her. After Bakker resigned from his ministry, he was charged with accounting fraud and sentenced to 45 years in prison.

Bakker was replaced by Jerry Falwell, who called his predecessor, “the greatest scab and cancer on the face of Christianity in 2,000 years of church history.”

Bill Gothard: Gothard is famous for his home schooling ministry, known as the Gothard Institute of Basic Life Principles. He promoted extreme submission of women and ordered them to dress modestly. In 2014, more than 30 women accused Gothard of molestation and assault, including underage girls. The allegations included sexual harassment, inappropriate touching, molestation, and rape. He was forced to resign from his ministry, though he resurfaced on the Internet with a blog in 2016.

Bob Coy: He was the most famous evangelical pastor in Florida. His Fort Lauderdale mega church had 25,000 members, and George W. Bush even visited Coy. But it all came crashing down in 2014 when he admitted to multiple affairs and pornography addiction. He resigned in disgrace––but the worse was still to come. In 2017, Coy was publicly accused of molesting a four-year-old child. Police sat on the accusation for months and dropped the inquiry without interviewing Coy. The case is still ongoing.

  • The judiciary is ordained by God

Daniel 4:17 says the most High God rules in the Kingdom of men and gives it to whomsoever He wills. He also sets up higher powers to ensure law and order in the kingdom of men. And these higher powers are the Judiciary, which in the sight of God are sacrosanct and therefore the most important arm of government.

This is why God commands all men to be subject to these higher powers. Romans 13: 1 stresses: “Let every soul be subject unto the higher power for there is no power but of God. The powers that be are ordained of God.

Romans 13: 4-5 states: “Why? Because these higher powers, that is, the Magistrates and the Judges, are God’s own ministers, who bear the sword, to execute and to dispense justice in the society.

“All souls, therefore, especially believers in Christ, must be subject to all magistrates and judges, both for conscience sake and for wrath’s sake.”

Any civil government in power, or any citizen of the country, and of course, any believer in Christ, who resists these magistrates or judges by refusing to obey their orders is resisting the ordinance of God and shall receive to themselves damnation.

Christians are reminded in Titus 3:1 that they must be subject to the powers that be, by obeying the order of magistrates and judges, and must be ready to do every good work, so that they will not be damned.

Judges and magistrates, being the ministers of God, are also warned to take heed what they do for they judge not for man but for the Lord, who is with them in all their judgments as 2 Chronicles 19:6 points out.

Therefore, Magistrates and Judges must be conscious of the fact that they are judging for the Lord, and not for man, and so, must not judge with the fear of man or with the fear of the Government in power, but with the fear of God, who put them in power, and who is with them in their judgments.

As ministers or servants of God, no iniquity should be found with magistrates or judges and they must have no respect of persons, neither must they take gifts to pervert the judgment of the righteous. 2 Chronicles 19:7 states this as much.

The role of the true church in a civil government is to preach salvation to all men and to be engaged in ceaseless prayers of intercession for those in authority, especially for magistrates and judges, who have God’s sword in their hands for the execution of judgment.

The church must pray so that this sword may be applied rightly in the fear of God. Because of this important divine role of the church in the society, saints of God are not to sue one another to any law court.

Rather, they must judge all matters amongst themselves. I Corinthians 6:1 says: “Dare any of you having a matter against another, go to law before the unjust and not before the saints?”

Verses 2-3 say: “Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? And if the world shall be judged by you, are ye not worthy to judge the smallest matters? Know ye not that we shall judge angels? How much more things that pertain to this life?”

A true church is also a militant church, which must always be in constant spiritual warfare with the demons behind the lawlessness in the nation and with the demons which hinder good governance and the prosperity of the nation.

Therefore, the militant church is a praying church and the saints of God, who make up the militant church, must not entangle themselves in politicking so that they can please Jesus, who has chosen them to be spiritual soldiers as 2 Timothy 2:4 points out.

The healing of any nation and the stability of any civil government and of the Judiciary and even the peace of any nation, depends upon a militant praying church, whose Great Commander is the LORD JESUS, because He is the LORD of hosts and at the same time, the Prince of Peace Isaiah 9: 6 says.

  • Don’t contest your defeat, Marahaj Ji tells Atiku

Self-styled perfect living master Satguru Marahaj Ji Marahaj Ji has warned presidential candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar not to contest his defeat at the court.

He said President Muhammadu Buhari won the election free and fair.

He declared any effort to contest the victory would end in futility.

“I will advise Atiku not to waste his money on lawyers but should rather donate such money to motherless baby homes and the less privileged.

“The lawyers are only out to collect this money, they know the effort will be in futility,” he said.

He also supported All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, saying his election will take Lagos to greater heights.

Addressing a press conference at the weekend, Satguru Marahaj Ji said Lagos has experienced a tremendous infrastructural and human development under visionary leaders that have governed the state.

“Why change a winning team? Lagos under ACN which later joined progressives to form the APC has been a role model in monumental development for other states, so I for see them winning the next election in the state.”

According to him, PDP is not an alternative in the state.

“Under the PDP at the federal level, public utility companies such as NITEL, Ajaokuta rolling mill and several others were sold in controversial circumstances of which the country is yet to get over.

“Lagosians will benefit more under Sanwo-Olu because they will be assured of continuity of the good work started in 1999 by Bola Tinubu as against a new party whose manifestoes is still shrouded in confusion.”

On his advice for Buhari, Satguru Marahaj Ji said the President should continue with his fight against corruption, advising all former presidents to join hands with him to rid Nigeria of corrupt practices and officials.

“A nation cannot move forward with such a heavy baggage like corruption.

“His second term should be used to pursue the fight with vigour, off course many will be offended and even ganged up against him, but he has the mandate of the people, and therefore shouldn’t relent,” he said.

He said Nigeria is too blessed to remain poor. “The collective wealth of the nation has been stolen by a few and these few are the one fighting back.”
