  • Church holds annual thanksgiving

The annual week-long thanksgiving of the Voice of Salvation Evangelical Ministry, Ketu, a Lagos suburb, starts tomorrow.

Speaking with journalists at the headquarters of the church on Tuesday, the General Overseer, Prophet Joseph Ayeni, said the yearly event is meant to celebrate his calling as a priest.

‘’It is an annual programme that has to do with my calling.

“The programme has been giving solutions to many problems in people’s lives in the last 15 years.

‘’There’s need for us to celebrate because we have not lost any member of our church since it was established about 16 years ago.

“We are happy because God has been protecting our members from evil or satanic attack.”

Ayeni urged Nigerians to revert to God for solution to the current recession assailing the country.

  • OPM sponsors wedding of converted prostitute

OPM sponsors wedding of converted prostitute

Two months after she accepted Christ at a special outreach to a brothel in Diobu, Port-Harcourt, a former sex worker has finally found love.

Her marriage was formalised at a ceremony presided over by General Overseer of Omega Power Ministries, Apostle (Dr) Chibuzor Chinyere.

It was fully funded by the founder of OPM.

Chinyere had promised to provide free accommodation and capitals for business take-over for the 38 converted sex workers during a special outreach by the church last September.

He also promised to sponsor the traditional and church ceremonies of whichever of them presented prospective grooms.

The over excited bride said Thursday September 22nd was a day she can never forget in a hurry.

She was full of joy to God and gratitude to Chinyere for the sudden transformation of her life.

According to her: “That day, I had personal contacts with Daddy OPM in our evil brothel in Diobu, a place where my life would have been ruined ignorantly in prostitution.

“I have listened to so many preachers who came around to preach to me but Daddy OPM’s pattern and style were different from all others who tried in vain to convert me.

“Daddy OPM did not only preach the words of God to me, he bought my fellow prostitutes and I from the devil’s dungeon.

“He also provided an accommodation in an estate for us, fed us, clothed us and set for us a life time businesses after committing us to water baptism.

“Today, I am a fulfilled born again Christian, happily married to a man I truly love to spend the rest of my life with.

“God is really great, to have used His servant to change my ugly story for good. I will forever serve Him throughout the rest of my life”.

The groom said he met his wife some years back but lost contact with her.

According to him:” “I am grateful to all of them and more importantly the general overseer of the church.

“May God continue to bless him as he made my day worth celebrating.”

Chinyere said he personally officiated the ceremony because of his immense delight and the enablement to fulfill one of his promises to the converted sex workers.

More importantly, he said he felt fulfilled to be an instrument for the salvation of souls.

“What else could be worth celebrating than the harvest of souls to God’s kingdom?” the cleric queried.

He shuddered at what would have happened to the saved souls if they were still at the brothel, vowing to intensify efforts to deliver millions of souls to the kingdom.

Chinyere then announced the provision of a better comfortable accommodation for the newlywed, a development that attracted wide applause from the congregation.

  • St Jude celebrates adult harvest

Members and priests of St Jude’s Anglican Church, Omole of the Diocese of Lagos West were in high spirit last Sunday during the 2016 adult harvest.

The harvest, which attracted many worshippers, was dubbed “harvest of divine laughter”.

In his welcome address, Vicar of the church, Canon Taiwo Olupitan charged Christians not to lose hope in the Nigerian project.

He added that with fervent prayers, the nation’s situation will change for the better.

Olupitan urged the worshippers to continue sowing because the time of harvest is close-by.

“We should not give up sowing seeds that will honour God and establish our awaiting laughter over the years because when a man’s season comes, his affliction ceases,” he stressed.

Delivering a sermon titled: ways to wealth, Venerable Dr. Kelvin Tope-Tapere, said there is still great possibility for prosperity despite the recession.

Faithful, righteous and prayerful Christians, he said, will still smile despite the recession in the nation.

“As Christians and Nigerians, we need to be more faithful now than ever for God to hear our prayer and heal our land of all forms of challenges,” Tope-Tapere stated.

According to him, Christians must be truthful and faithful in all their dealings as well as keep all the tenets of God.

Leading the various families in prayers, Rev. Tunde Adejuyigbe appreciated the efforts of the Harvest Committee led by Mrs. Bunmi Ademosu.

Adejuyigbe, who charged the congregation to be steadfast in the face of the worsening economic situations, tasked Christians to be fervent in prayers for the leaders and the nation.

  • WCCA felicitates with juveniles, church leaders

Its President, Primate Ayoola Omonigbehin, said the occasion was truly special and validates the commitment of the church to future investment.

Omonigbehin, in a statement, hailed the General leader and District chairman, Special Apostle Sunday Korode, for believing in the ministry of children.

He also thanked Shepherd of the children’s ministry, Special Apostle Tunde Senbanjo, for practical demonstration of love to the juveniles.

  • ‘We need more regenerated artists’

    ‘We need more regenerated artists’

National Secretary Officer in charge of inspecting and correcting activities of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in Rivers Province 12 and 13, Pastor Seun Sogunro, is a fine arts practitioner.
He spoke with Sunday Oguntola on his life and a scheduled exhibition to mark his 60th birthday. Excerpts:

What has changed for you at 60?

At 60, many things have changed. The energy expended on work and activities is no longer as strong as when one was 40 years old. Spiritually, one is stronger though. Many activities are now delegated- which is wisdom.

The way I view and act over issues has changed. One does not flare up like a 20-year-old. The type of food and number of times one eats has changed. Food items that are full of carbohydrates are consumed less but protein and fruits are taken more. My body can’t take breakfast anymore even if I am not fasting.

Though I still stand up to draw and paint, I sit down more. I sleep less currently, which gives me time to pray. Most times, when I set alarm clock to wake me, I ‘m already awake before it sounds. Currently, there is the realisation that one can’t spend the number of years already spent again on earth.

What does fine arts have in common with pastoring?

Fine Arts have many things in common with pastoring. Just as in teaching, students remember what they see than what they hear. Art works are used to encourage or remind the people concerning moral life style, prayerful, fellowship, evangelism, cleanliness, unity and so on.

In Exodus 31, God instructed Moses to get some set of artists that would assist in carrying out specific assignments in the beautification of God’s tabernacle and craftily working on some church items.

So, for me, being a pastor and fine arts practitioner is combined honours.

What would you remember as the lowest ebb of your life?

One occasion I remember was when some of us in Yaba Tech were asked to repeat the whole final year. Instead of graduating in 1980, I had to graduate in 1981. Initially, it was disappointing but God had to console me to go back.

We knew that we were not asked to repeat because we were poor academically but because we were good and proud. I had to keep to myself during the long vacation. I went back and took the whole session and eventually graduated and had NYSC in Command Secondary School, Ipaja Lagos.

At 60, what has life taught you?

At 60, life has taught me that it is not of him that wills but of God that shows mercy. This means that it is not by strength or power but by God’s Spirit. I have learnt that what is more important is our closeness to God; that if we remain close to God, we will have whatsoever we need at God’s timing.

I have also learnt that human beings can’t query God. He does what He wills. He is the one that protects, lifts up, provides what no man can give like keeping one alive, giving one children and so on.

As a PHD holder in Church Growth, is it true that church growth is an illusion?

There are many technicalities and principles that Christians need to know. Things that if we practice, the church will grow and things that, if we practice, the church will not grow.

People need to know that church growth is both the scientific and Holy Spirit study of the nature of the church. If church workers expand their knowledge concerning how God’s church that Jesus used His blood to purchase should be, people will not get frustrated or become failures.

If as church workers, we work on our character, our lives will not drive people away from the church but we’ll attract lives.

What difference is fine art making on your pastoring assignments and vice versa?

I am able to use artistic illustrations to make my points easily understood during my teachings and in the books I have written. The difference that my pastoring is making on my painting is passing Biblical messages and virtues through the art.

My paintings do not encourage disorderliness, idolatry or Satanic worship. What is exposed to me as a pastor can’t make me portray groups issue out death warrant on their members or see murder as good in my painting.

I can’t publicise them in the name of culture. At times of ignorance in the past, we used to publicise pornography and Satan worship but not again.

How did you come into the ministry?

After about eight years that I gave my life to Jesus Christ, when I was transformed from a sinful life style to that of the fear of God, my church leadership instructed after prayers that I should lead other seven church workers to pioneer another branch of RCCG.

Less than one year after we started, I went to have a personal prayer retreat. I was asking God to help me and empower me. After some hours into prayers, I was taken in a kind of trance. I saw myself taken by some men to the Deputy General Overseer that he should take me; that I was ready.

I was not happy when I came to myself. I quickly understood that I should work full time with the church. The Deputy General Overseer – that time – was in charge of interviews for new full timers.

After some days, I applied, was interviewed and employed in 1996. Twenty years down the line, I have not regretted my action. God has been faithful.

Why exhibition to mark your birthday?

It was around 11 months to my 60th birthday that I was thinking of what to do on the occasion- I had always organised or handled a project to mark landmarks for myself and the church I pastor.

It has always been to pass a message to the community or Christians. It has never been an occasion to wine and dine.

Apart from writing a book, which is actually a miracle to do (I never love writing but God supernaturally taught me). I was reminded to use my talent, which is drawing and painting to bless the church- to pass across information of Christian virtues and beautify the church.

The Spirit of God made me to see that Christian premises are not beautiful enough. In Exodus 31, 35, 36, 37, 38 and other parts of the bible, God told Moses that he had anointed some people specially to beautify the tabernacle, working with various medium.

When people say ‘see Paris and die’ or that Dubai is beautiful, it is the lavish use of art works to embellish both the interior of buildings, bridges and parks.

I was inspired to make some art works and donate to the church as an example before encouraging other Christian artists to do the same. It is also to pass a message on art works that are not harmful to us like in the name of culture.

Some produce idolatry artworks and promoting groups that issue death warrants to those that leave their group. There are some of the art works I feature that pass a message that pedestrian flyovers are becoming outdated.

In Milton Keynes, a city near London, pedestrians walk under while vehicles drive above, not men and women running 100 metres to cross busy roads.

  • Engaging the Ministry of the Holy Ghost for Exploits! (2)

Last week, we began this teaching series with the understanding that every redeemed child of God ordained to command exploits. We also established that it is the Holy Spirit that empowers us for exploits through His anointing (Matthew 5:13-15).

This week, as we continue the teaching, it is important to recognise that the Holy Ghost is a multi-dimensional Spirit. For instance, the seven Spirits of God are listed in scriptures and Jesus was an embodiment of all during His earthly ministry. Thus, the Holy Spirit is the same Spirit but with diverse operations. As it is written: There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism (Ephesians 4:4-5; see also Isaiah 11:1-3; 1 Corinthians 12:5; Revelation 5:6).

Let’s examine three dimensions of the Holy Spirit that empower men for exploits.

v            The Spirit of power: The Holy Ghost is the Spirit of power, which is also referred to as the anointing. That was the kind of anointing upon Cyrus that positioned him for exploits. The mission of the anointing is to empower us to command exploits, subdue our enemies without struggles, and destroy the two-leaved gates resisting our advancement. The anointing also stops the wickedness of the wicked by executing vengeance against all oppositions to our advancement (Isaiah 45:1-3, 61:1-5; Acts 1:8).

Let’s recognise that power is the secret behind dominion in the Kingdom and the only language the enemy bows to, is that of power. It is written: Say unto God, How terrible art thou in thy works! through the greatness of thy power shall thine enemies submit themselves unto thee (Psalms 66:3; see also Psalms 110:1-3; Luke 4:18).

v            The Spirit of faith: This is one of the powerful spiritual virtues that empower believers to command exploits. The Spirit of faith is the same for all generations. As it is written: Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints (Jude 1:3; see also 2 Corinthians 4:13; Hebrews 11:32-34).

What are the manifestations of the Spirit of faith?

    • The Spirit of Faith puts us in command of all things: The Spirit of faith empowers men to believe the unbelievable, think the unthinkable, dare the undarable and deliver the impossible. Jesus said: … for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you (Matthew 17:20).
    • It empowers us to believe all things: The Spirit of faith enlarges our capacity to believe everything written in God’s Word and as declared by His Prophets. Our capacity to believe is enhanced by the Holy Ghost and whatever we believe, we are empowered to become (Mark 9:23; Luke 1:45; John 1:12; Acts 24:14).

For instance, in 1979, I had an encounter from scriptures on my total health heritage in Christ, which empowered me to live a healthy life till date. I also had an encounter about my prosperity heritage in redemption and believed that I can never be poor.

    • The Spirit of Faith speaks through us: The Spirit of faith is ever speaking loud and clear because it doesn’t doubt the reality of what it believes (Matthew 10:20; Acts 14:3; 2 Corinthians 4:13).
    • It quenches all the fiery darts of the devil: It is written: Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked (Ephesians 6:16).

In other words, the Spirit of faith puts us in command of whatever situation or circumstances we are confronted with. However, we must understand that faith is built by revelation from God’s Word, and God’s Word is only accessible by God’s children. To be a child, you must be born again. Are you born again? If you haven’t accepted Jesus Christ as your Saviour and Lord, you can do so as you say this prayer: “Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me of my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. Deliver me from sin and satan to serve the Living God. Today, I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Thank You Jesus for saving me! Now I know I am born again!” For further reading, please get my books: Anointing for Breakthrough, Understanding the Anointing, Anointing for Exploits and Release of Power. I will conclude this teaching next week.

  • NOSCEF gets new executives

    NOSCEF gets new executives

The Northern States Christian Elders Forum (NOSCEF) has elected new executives to run its affairs for the next three years.

The induction took place last week in Kaduna.

The newly elected executives include Elder Olaiya Phillips as chairman, Dr. Luka Lobadungze, vice chairman, Elder Patrick Ambut as secretary and Mika Haruna as assistant secretary.

Others are Yabuku Dauda as auditor, Prof. Nuhu Gworgwor, treasurer, Mr. James Sakaba as secretary and Barrister Morris Odeh, legal adviser.

Also in the new executives are Oibe as PRO, Pastor Sunday Akpan, welfare and Engineer Sule Kilang as securty officer.

In his acceptance speech titled the road ahead, Phillips said the group has been remorseless in advocacy for fairness, justice and equality for all Nigerians, irrespective of tribe, religion or political affiliations.

According to him: “We have sought broad consultations across and among Northern Christians and elders.

“We have made our voices heard through regular public assessments of the state of the nation.

“In all we have done, we have sought to be a strong voice for the Northern Christian community; guided by the values of fairness, justice and equality.”

He however stated there is much more to be done in the next three years.

NOSCEF, according to him, needs a befitting secretariat to better coordinate its activities.

This project, among others, Phillips requires unity in the body of Christ.

“Unity is the bedrock upon which we must build. Only when we speak with one voice can we expect the Christian voice to be heard and taken account of.

“We must rediscover that unity that once empowered us to fully realize our latent strength.

“For our unity to be manifest, we must build it with strong foundations from the bottom up.

“If at local government level we are seen to speak as Christians, in spite of our denominations, we will be setting the tone for how we engage in our state and national interfaces,” Phillips added.

  • Follow in His steps (6)

    • My sheep hear My voice, and I know them and they follow Me

Jesus is the good shepherd and those who hear His voice and follow Him are his sheep, the sheep will hear Him and obey Him. They will not hear the voice of a stranger who comes to kill, steal and destroy, but Jesus came to give us life more abundantly.

To follow Jesus and eventually be like Him is possible only if you hear His voice (know His word) and obey Him. God’s word as written in the Bible is for you to read, study and do, if you truly want to be Christ-like.

I remember my teen years, I didn’t like to read the Bible, or even listen to sermons but after Jesus encountered me, this became the very life I live; to study and listen to His word, I can’t do without studying His word daily- in fact my best time is my time of solitude studying God’s word- His word truly has been a lamp to my feet and a light to my path, without which I would have gone astray and fallen into deep pit, I pray He makes me love His word more.

If you don’t want to listen and follow the voice/words of Satan and his agents whose agenda is to steal, kill and destroy lives, then you must always study God’s word and find counsel therein. My utmost desire is to live by God’s word, and truly I’m seeing the effect of His word in my life, God so made it that, through His word He prepares me for my everyday living, I’m so helpless without His ever guiding word in my life. When you study the word of God, He will show you great and mighty things you didn’t know. Each letter in the Bible seems to me as breathing; it gives life. The Word is Jesus who became flesh to give LIFE to all, you know Him by studying the Bible. “If you abide in my word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free”

After Jesus encountered me; setting me free from the sin that held me in bondage, He planned to get me see the importance of His word in making me remain free (Jesus sets free and makes free – it’s a continuous process only possible through His word). God sent me to serve in a remote village called Kwarra in Farin-Ruwa development area, Nassarawa state, for my one year National youth service corps (NYSC). After the three weeks orientation camp training, our journey to the village started; it was a dreadful long journey to an unknown land- an isolated village surrounded by mountains. I remember a male corps member also posted to the same village saying, God sent us to that village as a punishment for our sins, I knew it wasn’t so for me, I didn’t commit any sin I was being punished for, I had given my life to Christ and promised to live for Him. In fact, that period of my life was the beginning of a very close relationship with God.

I refused to manipulate my posting, wanting God to send me wherever He wanted me to be, I already promised to honour Him in every area of my life and I understood what that meant, so I allowed God to pilot the affairs of my life. I agreed to go to that village to spend my full service year barely travelling, Some of those sent to this village paid their way through and left- thank God I stayed, thank God I agreed to teach in that village school. For it was in that village God started revealing Himself to me deeply through His word, studying it for myself; He made me wake by 4:00am to observe my Quiet Time studying the Bible- I had so much hunger for the word and I enjoyed studying it, the revelation in His word kept me glued for hours- those were one of my best days- though the village was without electricity, no market, we drank well water, lived in a mud house and used pit toilet, yet I thank God for sending me there. So much happened in that village that I may not be able to narrate now; there I got to know who I am and my mission on earth. I didn’t fully understand a lot that happened then but now I do.

I plead with you to follow Jesus fully, He will never lead you astray, don’t manipulate anything that concerns you for by so doing many have thwarted God’s plans for their lives by themselves. It may not be what you want or like but if it’s God’s will then accept it for it will lead you to your destiny fulfilment- the road is never easy, that’s the reason you need Jesus ‘the good shepherd’ to lead you for you can’t walk alone – Follow Him!

  • ‘Recession is about perception’

The General Leader Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church, Surulere District Lagos, Special Apostolic Prophet Sunday Korode, has assured God will fix the recession biting hard in the nation.

He spoke at the 2016 adult harvest thanksgiving service in Lagos.

He urged Nigerians to support government efforts to tackle corruption.

According to Korode: “At this recession period, I would like to say we are progressing if we remain committed to the Lord.

“That is to say our spiritual life must appreciate. The truth of the matter is that it is all about perception and as a man thinks so he becomes.

“If you think you are in a recession, you will be receding and if you think otherwise, it will simply turn out the way you think.

“There is nothing like reality, perception is reality. The way we construct our social reality that is the way it becomes.”

He went on:  ”At the spiritual level, you don’t think negatively, it is the positive attitude that guides how you become.

“What you should know is that God is able to convert what you think is bad to what is good.

“The first point of call is the collective attitude of Nigerians and that is to start thinking right and acting right.”

Korode explained that the change in any society must begin with the people involved, noting that President Muhammadu Buhari had set a template that must start with individuals.
