  • LOVE…The Most Excellent Way 2

Now we know that love is a person and without knowing who love is we can not truly practice love- Love is God and God is love. Jesus made us to know that the greatest of the commandments is LOVE- love for God and love for our neighbours.  Today, we will be talking about LOVE FOR GOD. The first commandment says “You shall love the LORD your God with ALL your heart, with ALL your soul, with ALL your mind, and with ALL your strength. To love God this way is to be totally obedient to Him. Ones love for God shows first in the acceptance and believe in His Son whom He sent to redeem us to Himself. God first showed us love by sending His Son Jesus to die for our sins and reconcile us to Himself- God has given us eternal Life and this Life is in His Son. He who has the Son has Life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have Life. Anyone who believes in Jesus have eternal Life, the one who doesn’t  believe is calling God a liar, because he doesn’t believe what God has said about His Son. Therefore, such is disobedient to God; hence he/she doesn’t love God. Your love for God shows in your obedience to God’s word. In order to have the right to be called a child of God, we must first accept and believe in God’s Son-Jesus. When this is in place then a relationship starts, Jesus begins to take us to loving God with our ALL as mentioned above- it’s a process, that no one can achieve in personal strength – God has given us Jesus to show us the WAY to Him-to loving Him, there is no other way. Jesus is the WAY, the TRUTH and the LIFE; no one comes to the father (God) except through Him, as no one can truly love God except through Jesus.

Whenever I think of a life without Jesus Christ, I find myself full of fear for such life which makes me start praying for the person to encounter Christ the way I did- the relationship gives inexpressible JOY, PEACE, HOPE, SATISFACTION. The fact remains that a life without Christ is full of struggles and emptiness- if that is you, please open your heart to Jesus and be saved so you can have the power to truly love God.

If you love God you will put Him first in your life.  You will trust Him completely with your life and He will direct you and crown your efforts with success.  You will choose to do His will at all times no matter how difficult it may seem. You will honour Him more than any man. Jesus told His disciples “he who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me. And he who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And he who does not take up his cross and follow Me( cleave steadfastly to Me, conforming wholly to My example in living and, if need be, in dying also) is not worthy of me. He who finds his life will lose it and he who loses his life for my sake will find it”.

Most people are quick to declare love for God but when in certain situations of test for the love they so claim, they fail woefully. Note that your love for God will definitely be tested and this test is usually in the area of obedience to do what He says you should do; obedience to the point of death. Tell me, if you have given your life fully to follow God even unto death what else will matter, the world around can’t convince you otherwise.

The test came for Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego to show if they truly love God. Then in Babylon, the king Nebuchadnezzar set up a golden image and made a proclamation that at the sound of some musical instruments that everyone should bow down and worship his image and anyone refusing to bow will immediately be thrown into a flaming furnace. When these instruments sounded, everyone fell to the ground and worshipped the statue (including those who claim to love God). But Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego refused to bow and worship the image. Then Nebuchadnezzar in rage and fury gave the command to bring these men and said to them “… if you fall down and worship the statue, all will be well. But if you refuse, you will be thrown into a flaming furnace. And what god can deliver you out of my hands then? Shedrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered and said “O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king. But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up.”  Then, Nebuchadnezzar was full of fury and commanded that the furnace be heated seven times more than it was usually heated. And also commanded some of his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego and cast them into the burning fiery furnace.  Because the king’s command was urgent and the furnace exceedingly hot, the flame of the fire killed those men who threw them into the fire. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. Then king Nebuchadnezzar was astonished; and he arose in haste and spoke, saying to his counselors, “Did we not cast three men bound into the midst of the fire?” they answered and said “True, O king.”  “Look he said, “I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire; and they are not hurt, and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.”Then Nebuchadnezzar went near the mouth of the burning fiery furnace and spoke, saying, “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, servants of the Most High God, come out, and come here.” Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego came from the midst of the fire.  And the satraps, administrators, governors, and the king’s counselors gathered together, and they saw these men on whose bodies the fire had no power; the hair of their head was not singed nor were their garments affected, and the smell of fire was not on them.

Nebuchadnezzar spoke, saying, “Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who sent His Angel and delivered His servants who trusted in Him, and they have frustrated the king’s word, and yielded their bodies, that they should not serve nor worship any god except their own God! Therefore I make a decree that any people, nation, or language which speaks anything amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made an ash heap; because there is no other God who can deliver like this.” Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the province of Babylon.

Do you serve and worship the only true God, man made god, money, or material acquisition? Your love and my love for God is tested everyday in our offices, businesses, and in our interpersonal relationships. If we trust Jesus to help us, we will be steadfast, faithful, courageous and strong like these three men, then and only then will the world see our God in us and then declare our God as sovereign like the king did- this is how to enthrone Jesus in Nigeria- by loving Him and showing it in every area of your life and living in righteousness.

    SONG/PRAYER:

    1.  More love to Thee, O Christ,
      More love to Thee!

Hear Thou the prayer I make
    On bended knee;
    This is my earnest plea:

More love, O Christ, to Thee,
    More love to Thee.

    1. Once earthly joy I craved,

    Sought peace and rest;
    Now Thee alone I seek,

    Give what is best;

This all my prayer shall be:
More love, O Christ to Thee,
    More love to Thee.

  • ‘Church leaders are causing problems for God’

‘Church leaders are causing problems for God’

The first thing you notice about the senior pastor of The Redemption Glory Assembly (TREGA) Lagos, Pastor Emmanuel Abiodun, is this curious reclusion. He keeps to himself in a way that tells one there is something about him to be unearthed.

This reclusion is an art he has mastered over the years, perhaps to save him the wrath of those affected by his radical views. But once one succeeds in drawing him out of his shell, Abiodun opens up in a friendly, amazing manner.

It’s been ten, long years since TREGA came into being. But there has been no attempt to showcase the church at least in the media. Is there something Abiodun is hiding? “I have not been hiding but busy with running the vision,” he began.

“There has been no intentional effort to blow one’s trumpet. You don’t announce the pregnancy of six months. It announces itself. I just love the simple, unassuming life.”

This unassuming life makes many fellow church leaders avoid him. He hardly gets invited for ministrations. His views are radical and hard-hitting. But Abiodun is the least concerned. “Jesus is my friend and I am contented with him. It is not about popularity but being right,” he retorted.

His obsession with being right is huge. As long as something is right, Abiodun is all for it, without minding whose ox is gored, the cumulative costs or losses.

He also likes to see himself as a process-oriented minister even though he is also mindful results are not easily dismissible. “We are more interested in process without minding results. What is the essence of laboring without results? We want success, prosperity and power but we know that there must be a process. Our attention to process is great.”

Abiodun, who runs TREGA Life centre, a community empowerment scheme that has benefitted over 200 people, says he is never under pressure to deliver despite being a prophet.

According to him:  “You cannot come to this church and I will tell you God will do it in just two months. I will tell you He makes everything beautiful in His own time.”

“I am not under pressure to impress God and people. I tell people there are many things I cannot do.  I am not God. I am only a prophet. I can only pray to God and He has the prerogative to answer or not. God has told me that gifts will not build the church, but the word.”

He said the trend of overpromising puts the church at a disadvantaged. Many people, he said, have been disenchanted by God and the church. “

“When you come to God, He will fix you. But the way, time and how are left to Him. No man on earth can determine that. Many Christians no longer preach Christ but church.

“When we preach Christ, everything is balanced. We are causing problems for God. When we balance things, the focus will be on God, not the man of God. When they have challenges, they will remain.”

Abiodun added: “When we promise what we cannot deliver, we are causing problems for God. We don’t have right over our lives. Why should we promise others things so that they become disappointed with God and the church?

“There is someone who will never die; whose network does not fail. That person is God and He should be our main focus.”

TREGA life centre is a free empowerment scheme designed to uplift the downtrodden. Abiodun said the scheme is an intervention programme that is not money-related.

“We came to the realisation that the church is supposed to be a solution centre in every facet of life. Be it in spiritual or physical area, the church must offer help to mankind.

“I believe the church can do the little it can do without monetizing it to the people around. That is why birthed the vision. We are trying to be a blessing to the community and imposing kingdom values,” he explained.

Though it is taking a toll on the finances of the church, the radical preacher said the scheme has come to stay because it is the right thing to do.

“We don’t believe you must derive monetary benefits to help others. We do what is right to be a channel of correction to others. Fellow pastors have asked why we are wasting our time. Some think there is a grant somewhere and the fact is there is none from anyone. I believe the reward is with God and will not be immediate.

“We are strictly abiding by the core values of moderation and love. We are doing what God wants us to do without bothered about the popularity or otherwise.”

  • Akintobi is new GO of Christ Foundation

Akintobi is new GO of Christ Foundation

The Christ Foundation Gospel Church (Inc) has a new General Overseer.

    He is Rev Nathaniel Akintobi.

He replaces the founder, Rev. Dr. Joseph Olusoji, who died last March.

Until his elevation, Akintobi was the Coordinating Supervisor in-charge of Arigbajo and Abeokuta Districts, Ogun State.

He joined the ministry in 1983 and became Pastor in 1992.

In 2007, he became a Reverend and appointed to the Church’s Board of Trustee in August.

He had served as the National Youth leader between 2005 and 2009.

The Assistant General Overseer (AGO), Rev. Taiwo Balogun, who performed the ordination, enjoined the new general overseer to be brave and courageous to move the ministry to the next level.

Balogun advised the new general overseer to always seek God’s advice and not put his trust in any man, assuring that through that he will not be put to shame.

”You need to always commit your ways into the hand of God, because you can only do little on your own.

“But if you make it a point of duty to always commit your ways and seek God’s advice, without relying or put your trust on anybody, you would not be put to shame.”

He appealed to members to eschew all acts that are capable of

hindering the progress of the church.

Balogun stated that though the late founder had said during a meeting with members and trustees on March 5 that he has chosen an unnamed successor, nobody should work against the emergence of Akintobi.

According to him: “I want everybody to cooperate with him to take the church to another level. All side talks, backbiting and rebellion attitudes should be totally eschewed.

“This is a new era. You need to renew your spirit, renew your salvation if you have lost it.”

He enjoined the church elders to give advice that will expand the

ministry and to always be on the path of progress.

Akintobi solicited for the support of everyone, assuring that through the grace of God, the legacies, faith and founding principles of the ministry would never be eroded.

  • Buhari should be a listening President-Prophet

Buhari should be a listening President-Prophet

A cleric, Prophet Lai Bamidele, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to be a listening leader to meet his goals for the mandate given to him by Nigerians.

Bamidele, who is General Overseer of Glorious End-Time Evangelical Church in Abule-Egba, Lagos, said though the President’s piety and integrity are not in doubt, he still come across as a man who hardly listens to wise counsel.

The cleric hinged his criticism on the fallout of the election of principal officers into the National Assembly, which he said was fraught with betrayal against the decision of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“It was not right then for the President to have quickly reacted that ‘we will work with the newly elected leaders of the National Assembly’, as this has sown a seed of discord in the party that brought him to power.

“For sure, the emergence of Saraki was on a wrong footing and any house built on mere sand will surely collapse,” he stressed.

Prophet Bamidele added that God had since 2013 revealed to him that former President Goodluck Jonathan would not be reelected.

His words: “God told me, as he used to tell me after returning from the mountain on the January of every year, that Jonathan would not win the 2015 election.

“That was in 2013, and it was published in the newspapers. But the second day after its publication, I can recollect vividly that Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State replied me in one of the newspapers that I am a fake prophet.

“Not long after, serious crisis broke out between Amaechi and Jonathan, and the same Amaechi started working against Jonathan.”

The cleric advised the Senate President Bukola Saraki to vacate the office in his own interest as what he foresaw for him as Senate President, “is not palatable.”

Bamidele also condemned Senators escorting “an accused Senate President to answer charges at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, for charges that do not concern the.”

  • Group honours NDDC Director, media practitioners

Group honours NDDC Director, media practitioners

A faith-based nongovernmental organisation, Christian Media Foundation (CMF), has bestowed awards of excellence on some deserving personalities for their commitment to media evangelism.

Among the awardees were the Executive Director, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Anietie Usen; Managing Editor, Online and Special Publications of The Nation Newspaper, Lekan Otufodunrin and Chris Kehinde Nwandu of CKN News.

The award ceremony was the climax of a two- day Christian media workshop by CMF in collaboration with Providence magazine.

CMF Country Director, Gracious Akintayo, said the workshop was to educate, empower and encourage the application of the new (social) media platforms for the enhancement of evangelical strategies.

Akintayo said the awards were aimed at encouraging, appreciating and celebrating practitioners that have distinguished themselves in Christian news reporting and contributed to the development of media evangelism.

He acknowledged that the winners have been selflessly and relentlessly demonstrated passion to write, publish, produce and promote Christ-like character in carrying out their assignments.

Chairman of the occasion, Dr Wilson Badejo, said Christians must take over the social media platforms to positively influence the society.

The former general overseer of the Foursquare Gospel Church said globalisation and technological advancement offer Christians the much-needed leeway to spread the gospel to the nooks and crannies of the nation.

Badejo, who was represented by Rev. Sunday Madudu challenged Christians to take the bull by the horn with the social media platforms.

The guest speaker, Richard Akinnola, said new technologies have reduced the world to a global village, offering Christians the platforms to change the world.

Akinnola, represented by Ademola Adeoye, said: “Evangelism is now made simpler, efficient and cheaper with social media platforms networking strategies.”

Other awardees of the 2016 Christian Media Award (CMA) are Sunday Oguntola (The Nation); Aramide Oikelome (formerly of Daily Independent); Rita Okonoboh ( Nigerian Tribune), Sanmi Falobi, a projects officer with the International Press Centre(IPC);  Julius Adegunna (publisher, PTL News) and Adetunji Akintola (Breakthrough News).

  • Why I gave cars to Nollywood actors, by Iginla

Why I gave cars to Nollywood actors, by Iginla

The Senior Pastor of Champions Royal Assembly, Kubwa, Abuja, Prophet Joshua Iginla, has explained why he gave out 32 cars last Sunday to Nollywood actors.

He said the gesture was to dispel the wrong notion that many of them are rich as depicted in movies.

Six Nollywood actors and actresses, including Prince Jide Kosoko, Francis Duru, Alex Usifo, Ngozi Osondu, Thelma Nwosu and Sunday Omobolanle popularly known as Aluwe got Hummer Jeep 3 series, Mercedes G-Wagon and Mercedes CLS 550 from the cleric to commemorate his birthday.

Speaking on why he targets Nollywood practitioners, Iginla said:  “Many of them are poor but many people erroneously think they are rich because of the kind of wealthy roles some of them play in the movies. So this is my own way of correcting the wrong impression.”

According to him, pirates are feeding fat on the efforts and sweat of Nollywood practitioner, challenging government to do something to arrest it.

“The Nollywood actors and actresses are our ambassadors; they have projected the image of this country positively.

“I’m seeing many of them for the first time today. I am seeing Jide Kosoko for the first time,” he said.

Veteran actor, Jide Kosoko, who confirmed he was meeting Iginla for the first time, commended him for his philanthropy.

16 of the 32 cars he doled out were SUVs.

Some artisans got generators and cash gifts while the widows got deep freezers, rice and cash gifts ranging from N150, 000 to N1.5 million.

Treasure Orphanage Foundation, Nyanya; Divine Wound Orphanage, Kubwa and Christ Home Foundation, Kuje got N1.5 million each and many bags of rice.

Iginla disclosed he caters for 782 widows and orphans every year with the figure increasing daily.

Philanthropy, he said, is his way of affecting the world.

According to Iginla: “It doesn’t matter to me if I trek home. I have given even the car that I personally drive. I can only drive one car and live in one house at a time.

“This understanding is what has taught me that when I die, others will inherit my assets.

“The beauty of life is not in its duration but in its donation. I have not seen some of the beneficiaries before in my life or spoken to them.”

  • ‘Church leaders can reverse national woes’

Convener of Builders with God Ministry Pastor Dele Oyeleru has appealed to church leaders to shun all forms of materialism and provide the needed direction and focus for the nation at this critical time.

Pastor Oyeleru stated this at in an interview with our correspondent at the Labour Day Ministers Conference in Lagos.

He said that the nation went into socio-economic quagmire when the church lost focus and started pursuing material wealth at the expense of righteousness.

He lamented that many church leaders have disappointed God and the nation by their unrighteous behaviour leading to greater moral degradation across the country.

He asserted that there are many hireling and mercenaries servants of God who only embarrass God by using the name of Jesus as a password for selfish reasons.

According to Oyeleru: “We will be stumbling blocks to millions of people from coming to Christ if we do not live in the light of the gospel within our immediate environment.

“True passion that would stand the test of time in the believer comes from a deliberate commitment to genuine love for God and serve without any reservation.

“Unfortunately, many of us are pursuing money as against God. This is why Nigeria is where it is.”

He argued many ministers are running in vain without eternity in mind, stating “when we don’t have eternity in mind in our ministration in the churches, what appears good in the sight of men will be a waste before God.”

  • Cleric to Nigerians: give Buhari time

President Muhammadu Buhari is seemingly slow because of the grave liabilities he inherited, the spiritual father of the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church worldwide Rev Samuel Abidoye has stated.

He urged Nigerians to exercise patient and give the President some more time to deliver.

Abidoye said this while addressing reporters in Orile-Igbon along Ilorin-Ogbomoso expressway as part of activities to commemorate the 10th years anniversary/thanksgiving service of his elevation as spiritual head of the church.

He said: “Personally, I do not believe that it is too late for the President to change this country. It is not easy to handle a very bad situation.

“If he should rush as people expect him to do he will fail, but slow and steady is what I think he is doing.

“Don’t forget that he is a human being; don’t forget that some of the people around him were around former President Goodluck Jonathan in those days especially some of the people in the Senate.

“My advice to Nigerians is to give him some more time. I have that belief that he will bring something out.”

In the same vein, the Founder of Royal Covenant Church, Ilorin, Pastor Biola Paimo said the current administration is operating with a measure of sincerity of purpose and fear of God.

Addressing reporters at the weekend in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital ahead of the church’s annual convention, Paimo said the theme of the convention is ‘settled in heaven.’

According to him: “My present position is that we should let the leaders be sure that they are not lying to the people.

“The Bible says that it is a nation that is accursed that the rulers lie. In a situation where our leaders are not telling us lies, then what is required of us is patient.

“In any circumstance if the person you are dealing with does not tell you lies, then your patience will work. But when God sees that the rulers are liars the next thing is revolution. History has proved over and again.”

He added: “I think the Nigerian populace has been working with that measure of patience. Just a couple of days ago we were told that pump price of petrol is now this amount. If Nigerians had not been patient by now people would have taken to the streets.

“There is a sign that leaders are telling a measure of truth in the polity and the populace is following with a measure of patience. Our prayer is that it will continue that way.”

  • LOVE…The Most Excellent Way 1

The four letter word LOVE, though the most excellent way to live and needed most in our lives, yet the most lacking in our lives and society. So widely talked about but also the most abused. Where there is love, there is peace and of course progress, where there is no love the opposite is the case. Many claim to love and know love but their actions are contrary to what love is.

    What then is LOVE?

Let’s start by looking at the characteristics of love:

    • Love is very patient
    • Love is kind
    • Love is never jealous or envious
    • Love is never boastful or proud
    • Love is never rude
    • Love is never selfish
    • Love is not provoked, irritable or touchy
    • Love thinks no evil
    • Love does not hold grudges and will hardly even notice when others do it wrong
    • Love does not rejoice in iniquity but rejoices in the truth
    • Love bears all things
    • Love believes all things. It will cause you to believe in someone without giving up on him/her.
    • Love endures all things
    • Love never fails. There is no end to love.

If you say you know and practice love, then can you score yourself from the above characteristics of love? Love is active not passive. Surely I need help here and I believe you too. Jesus made us to know that the greatest of the commandments is LOVE- love for God and love for our neighbours.

If the above is the character of love, I want us to know that love is a person and without knowing the person of love, no one can ever truly practice love. Who then is love? This person is GOD. He is love Himself, without Him there is no love and without knowing Him one can not truly love, you will only keep struggling, living in deceit until frustration sets in. When you know God then helps you to truly love. The scripture says beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love”. God demonstrated His love towards us by sending His only begotten SON into this sinful world to set us free from sin and reconcile us to Himself, this He did while we were yet sinners. Not that we loved God but He loved us in spite of our sins and sent His Son to die and free us from sin so we can enjoy a good relationship with Him and be able to love. God sent Jesus to come in human form to show us what it means to love; Jesus laid down His own life for us to be free. He showed love all through His stay on earth and He still loves us being seated at the right hand of God praying for you and me. He was always busy while on earth doing good, He didn’t have a home of His own, He worked tirelessly showing love; healing the sick and setting free the captives of the mighty. While in great pain on the cross He prayed for those who crucified Him, not bad prayer that they should die but that God forgives their sins. Even in death Jesus was forgiving and set free the thief being crucified alongside Him on the cross-oh! What manner of love…! He had the power to call down fire to destroy those who crucified Him, He could have even commanded the ground to swallow them up but all these He didn’t do, rather He chose to submit to God’s will to deliver mankind from sin. In place of the word love in the characteristic listed above put Christ. This same character God wants you and me to emulate.

When you believe in Jesus, He gives you His Spirit- the Holy Spirit who begins to help you to love like Him. If the Holy Spirit controls our lives then can we truly love, for the fruit of the Holy Spirit can be summarized to mean LOVE. We need love in our lives and to show love in our interpersonal relationships; in our families and in our nation Nigeria. If you will choose love (God) and believe in His Son Jesus whom He gave as an access to Him, then He will help us to love.  Without Jesus you can do nothing. Love is who a Christian should be, to love unconditionally as demonstrated by Jesus irrespective of our differences- religion, tribe, language, culture, tradition, social status and all. Jesus died for all. Nigeria needs love. You are Nigeria, I am Nigeria and we need to know and show love. Do not resist love for resisting love is resisting God.

SONG: Let there be love shared among us

Let there be love shared among us
Let there be love in our eyes
May now Your love sweep this nation.
Cause us oh Lord to arise
    Give us a fresh understanding
Of brotherly love that is real,
Let there be love shared among us,
    Let there be love.

    TEXT: 1Corinthians 13, 1 John 4: 7-16, John 3:16, Luke 23: 13-49
