  • Missionary schools should be free, says Chinyere

Educational institutions run by churches and other faith-based organisations should never collect tuition, the general overseer of Omega Power Ministries (OPM), Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere, has declared.

He slammed churches for starting schools with offerings contributed by members only to price them beyond their capacity.

Chinyere spoke last week in Port-Harcourt at the launch of a free lunch scheme for over 200 students in OPM Free Nursery and Primary School.

He said it is not only wicked but also devilish to start schools with offerings and slash members with unaffordable tuitions.

“This is what church offerings are meant to be used for. Not building a school with the offering from the church and put the school fees high. Church schools must be free,” he declared.

He said students in the school will henceforth enjoy free meals to enable them study better.

The gesture, he said, was to complement the free tuition, uniforms and sandals policy of the school.

According to him: “Our drive is to demonstrate that free education is possible and every child is entitled to it.

“We have four of these kinds of schools in the nation where nobody pays a dime to enroll and learn. They get free tuition, scandals, bags, books and now meals.

“If we can do this, we believe government can do much more and bigger churches have no excuse at all.”

The school, which is equipped with air condition and modern facilities, is exclusively for downtrodden pupils.

“Only those who parents cannot afford the fees are here. We select children based on their poor background across all religions and tribes,” he further explained.

He challenged other churches to emulate the tuition-free policy of the school, saying they should add values to lives and not focus on materialism.

OPM Free Nursery and Primary School, he said, provides free books, free sandals and free four pairs of different uniforms to boost the morale of the poor kids.

“We want them to overcome poverty and be educated in a serene environment. That is what we are doing. We only do this from the offerings we collect.

“There is no international donor or collaboration anywhere. Every kobo we spend on the project is from this church. If others join us, we will educate thousands of poor children across this nation,” he stated.

  • Global prayer support for persecuted saints

Persecuted Christians in Syria, North Korea and Iraq will enjoy global prayer supports during this year’s The International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church (IDOP).

IDOP is a global day of intercession for persecuted Christians.

Millions of Christians in 156 nations will participate in the prayer summit tagged Nothing shall separate us.

Secretary of the Board of Trustees for Voice of Christian Martyr

Pastor Bosun Emmanuel stated this in a statement ahead of the 2015 International Day of Prayers for the Persecuted Churches from November 1-8.

Emmanuel said: “We solicit kindest assistance of all Christians for the Nigerian church to set Sunday 8th November, 2015 apart for prayers for persecuted Christians globally and locally.”

He explained that the IDOP Sunday serves as a good reminder for Christians in the nation to constantly remember “our brethren in northern Nigeria going through fiery tribulation under Boko Haram and the Fulani herdsmen.”

Only prayers, he stressed, can douse the fire of these religious extremists, pointing out that efforts by government to tackle them have been largely unsuccessful.

  • Soldiers pray for wounded troops

Officers of the Army Medical Corps, Abalti Barracks Surulere Lagos, last week celebrated this year’s Medical Sunday with the theme accessing divine intervention.

It provided the officers an opportunity to offer prayers for all Colleges of Medicine and other tertiary institutions, commanders and principal officers as well as all medical students and handicapped.

They also prayed for wounded soldiers and medical personnel treating them at the ongoing war against terrorism in the northeast.

Commander, Nigerian Army Medical Corps, Major General Sina Ogunbiyi, said: “The Chief of Army staff has graciously approved that a day is set aside every year for the medical Sunday.

“Even in the bible we had Saint Luke the physician.”

He reassured wounded soldiers and civilians in the north east that the terrorists will soon be flushed out.

According to him: “Many officers and civilians have also been wounded but we want to send a message to them to have hope that this insurgency will soon be defeated.

“We are all aware of President Muhammadu Buhari’s promise that by December, the insurgents will be brought to book.

“We have also been assured by the Service Chiefs that by God’s Grace, it will come to an end.”

He said the troops in the northeast have received better medical attention since the first Medical Sunday held last year.

  • Why Nigeria is still standing, by cleric

God is interested in Nigeria and will always protect her destiny regardless of multiple satanic machinations, the Overseer, Hidden Manna Revival Ministry International, Apostle Hezekiah Agunbiade, has declared.

He spoke with our correspondent at the sidelines of the 10th Overcomers’ convocation of the ministry at Oyun Baptist High School, Offa, Kwara State.

According to him: “The word of God made it clear that God is interested in the affairs of men.

“I believe if it had not been for God the country would have gone into piece but the grace of God has kept this nation till now.

“I believe that the love that God has for this nation remains the same.”

He called on Nigerians to support the current administration.

“With the cooperation of everybody and the prayers of the saints, I believe that all things will work out to our benefits and for the progress of our nation,” Agunbiade stated.

He applauded the rejection of gay marriage in the country, stating that God was pleased with such move.

Going down memory lane, Agunbiade said the convocation was not premeditated but was born in the year 2005 through divine and prophetic mandate.

The high points of the thanksgiving service were unprecedented testimonies, praises and special prayers.

  • ‘No one can destroy our church’

‘No one can destroy our church’

The General Treasurer of Assemblies of God Nigeria, Rev. Vincent Alaje, spoke with Sunday Oguntola on allegations of embezzlement against the leadership by some ex-communicated members and sundry issues. Excerpts:

Is it true that some top officials of the church, like you are under the probe of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)?

There is no such thing like that.  As I speak with you, we have not received any official letter from the EFCC to that effect. I think that it’s just an imagination of some people. There is nothing like that.

How do you react to the allegation of financial recklessness and embezzlement against the leadership?

Well, it’s very unfortunate. It’s because sometimes some media practitioners are not doing their job. Because before you go into the public, before you go out and send a message to the public domain, you must have done proper investigations.

These individuals that have written this are not members of Assemblies of God Nigeria. They were once Assemblies of God members but they have been excommunicated.

Besides, the Trustees of the church have no knowledge of what they are saying. In October 2014, we had our National Meeting where over 7,000 delegates attended the conference and the financial activities of the church were presented to them.

They received it and approved it because the financial activities of the church has gone through internal and external auditors and approved the account of the church. So where they got their information we don’t know.

Let me also say in the last 10 years, this church has not been able to raise up to N100 billion so where they got their figures only God knows. I know of course its speculative but it is wickedness and very unfortunate.

So you are saying the allegation is not true?

It’s not true I can tell you authoritatively because I am the treasurer of the church by the grace of God.

What kind of mechanism exists to prevent financial mismanagement in the church?

Assemblies of God has a structure. You cannot spend a kobo without a requisition. And your requisition will go through all levels of what it should go through. The officers that need to sign will sign. Monies are not just given out by anyone because the same thing applies from the local church to the National level.

Monies are not just given out; there are people that have the responsibility of looking at what should be spent. A decision has to be taken. They will approve what should be spent and it has to be authorised. A cheque to that effect will be issued and all the authorities to sign will sign.

Are you saying in AGN, no one person can withdraw money?

It is not a one-man church; so no man from the national level to the local level can bring out money from the bank.

You said that the leadership got a clean bill after the last presentation of audited accounts.  Can you expatiate on that?

Every year, the financial records of the Assemblies of God Nigeria are presented to the External Auditor. After looking at it, whatever is found they will question and we will answer it. It is when they are satisfied that we will now present it.

In the last council meeting, the audited account for four years from 2010 to 2013 was presented. The entire council with delegates of over 7,800 ratified the account and infact they received it with applause.

Who are the people who constitute these delegates?

We have about 4,800 ministers and the rest were lay men from different sections of Assemblies of God Church all over the country. That is the 36 states of the federation and Federal Capital Territory.

There is this perception out there that the crisis in the church is down to finances. Is that so?

No! It‘s not about finance. It is about a mis-rule; it’s about an autocratic tendency. It‘s about one man who thinks that his word is the final authority. It’s about a man who did not submit himself to the authorities of the Church.

It’s about a man who feels that when he says it that is the final that nobody should challenge him. Its about lawlessness, its about people who wants to take law into their hands.

Why would these excommunicated members go as far as insinuating financial mismanagement in the church?

I wouldn’t know for them, they had better answer that question but one thing I do know is that their days are numbered. They knew very well that their days are numbered and there is no way they can win this battle.

So to them, they resorted to using every means of bringing scandal and begin to cast aspersions on leaders and so on. What they are doing mainly is propaganda and discrediting leaders. Thinking that if they can destroy their public image that is the best way to go about it.

I want to say clearly that this is an issue that bothers on things that we need to say straight to the public. These men that are talking are excommunicated; they are not part of Assemblies of God. Whether it is on the net, print media or electronic media people should stop believing them.

The Assemblies of God Church remains intact today. The meetings we have had this year show that the church is intact. From all over the federation people came for that meeting and there is no meeting we have this year that we have less than 75,000 people coming together in one single meeting.

Besides that, we have 119 units today, only two units are there that are following Paul Emeka and they are insignificant as far as what we have today.

What is your message to members of the church across the country?

I will like to say that once again we want to thank them for remaining faithful to their confession trusting that the Lord Jesus Christ the owner of the church is building His church and the gate of hell will not prevail over it.

They should remain stable and steadfast and be law abiding. In the face of intimidation, in the face of challenges, in the face of the evil that these people are doing. They should remain committed and unmovable because God is ready to fight for them.

Nobody should take law into their hand but the thing is that they have every reason to protect their house. The law is on their side to protect them but they should not take law into their hands.

  • How churches can help anti-graft war, by scholar

A member of the Commonwealth Secretariat Arbitral Tribunal, Professor Epiphany Azinge, has tasked Churches to partner more with anti- corruption agencies to expose Nigerians with ill-gotten wealth.

He said those with illegal wealth using churches as avenues to protect their assets should no longer be covered up by churches.

The former Director General Nigeria Institute of Advanced Legal Studies spoke at the 8th Anthony Cardinal Okogie annual lecture/ foundation in Lagos last week.

Azinge, in his paper titled 2015 Elections: Implications dor Nigeria’s Democracy, said the time has come for churches in the country to strengthen the fight against corruption.

He said: “The church must sustain its role and must remain the voice of reason and the conscience of the nation.

“Our democracy therefore cannot blossom unless all agents of socialisation particularly the schools and churches are prepared to set standards for higher moral ideals.”

On the last general elections, Azinge commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for introduction of card readers and others that militated against rigging.

Azinge however noted that there are some areas in the part of the country where manipulation, rigging, hijack of ballot boxes prevailed.

The immediate past deputy governor of Delta State, Professor Amos Utuama, charged public officials to be transparent in their dealings.

He stated that he resisted pressures to divert public funds to personal projects while in office, charging others to follow suit.

  • Breaking barriers through the power in his book! (2)

Last week, we began this two-part series with the understanding that God’s Word (The Bible) is a covenant dream Book that contains dream seeds for the actualization of our glorious destinies. Again, we understood that just like the natural seed does not bear fruits except it is cultivated, our dream seeds wouldn’t become realities until they are cultivated. Furthermore, we discovered that God’s word is a mirror through which we catch glimpses of God’s picture for our lives and examined some scriptural pictures. In this concluding edition, we will look at more pictures from scriptures that establish the truth of who are in Christ Jesus. They are as follows:

Every child of God is a spiritual Isaac:  The Bible says that we brethren as Isaac, we are the children of promise. According to scriptures, Isaac sowed in that land and received in the same year a hundred fold, for the Lord blessed Him. He went forward, became very great and the Philistines envied him. Therefore, every child of God is a spiritual Isaac ordained for envy (Galatians 4:28; Genesis 26: 12-14).

Every child of God is ordained a fruitful vine: As it is written: Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table (Psalms 128:3). (See also Psalm 127:3).

We understand that every child of God is a wife of the Lamb. There is no male or female; we are all one in Christ. It means every child of God is redeemed to be physically and socially fruitful. Moreover, God has not ordained dry seasons for us. Therefore, the last dry season you experienced is the last you will ever see!

Every child of God is redeemed and raised to be far above principalities and powers: It means that we have been translated far above every force behind all barriers, visible and invisible. We must also understand that there is no barrier before us that can challenge the authority of the revelation of the truth that we believe in. This is because whatever we believe, we are empowered to become (Ephesians 2:5-6; 1:20-21, John 1:12).

However, faith is the spiritual force that destroys all barriers on our path, visible and invisible, because no satanic barrier can resist the authority of Bible-based and Bible-provoked faith. As it is written: Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. Therefore, all invisible barriers are subject to the authority of faith (Ephesians 6:16).

But, how does our faith accomplish this?

    • Faith taps into divine unction that destroys all yokes: From the story of the woman with the issue of blood, we understand that through faith we can tap into divine unction to destroy every barrier on our path (Luke 8:40-48).
    • Faith establishes our partnership with God in battle: When we establish partnership with God through our faith, we become unbeatable, unstoppable and irresistible in the battle of life (Hebrew 11:24; Romans 8:31).
    • Faith engrafts the believer into divinity; thereby, equipping him to be more than a conqueror: Our faith engrafts us into the realm of divinity and that connotes dominion, invincibility, indestructible and undefeatable (Romans 11:17-23; 8:35-38).
    • By faith, we enforce the performance of whatever is written concerning us in scriptures: As it written: And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord (Luke 1:45). (See also Isaiah 10:25-27)
    • The force of faith crushes every barrier on our path: Concerning the heroes of faith, the Bible says: And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets: Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens (Hebrews 11:32-34). (See also 1Timothy 6:12; Matthew 11:12).

However, faith is no cheap talk; faith is hard work. Faith is not making God responsible for the outcome of our lives; faith is sharing responsibility with God in the face of scripture, so as to commit His integrity to perform. Thus, there is our part forever in determining the outcome of our lives.

Moreover, there are two Kingdom mysteries, among others, that are also pivotal in clearing barriers off the paths of our destinies. They include:

    • The Mystery of the Anointing Oil: This breaks every yoke, burden and barrier on our path of destiny. As it is written, For yet a very little while, and the indignation shall cease, and mine anger in their destruction. And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing (Isaiah 10:25&27). (See also Psalm 89:20-24; Psalm 105:13-15). Therefore, every war against our lives is declared won today!
    • The weapon of praise: From scriptures, we understand that God inhabits the praises of His people and when God steps into any situation, every opposition bows out. For instance, when Paul and Silas prayed and sang praises aloud to the Lord in the prison, their chains fell off. Again, when God came down in the midst of Israel, all the barriers on their path were leveled out. Therefore, praise is a spiritual weapon that invokes divine presence, which crumbles barriers off our paths (Acts 16: 25-27 Psalm 22:3; Psalm 114:1-9).

Friend, if the Bible represents the most authentic dream Book of life, then it is worth investing all the time to catch God’s dream for us from His Book. When our part is settled, God is committed to play His part in the actualization of His plans for our lives. I pray that you will accept responsibility to play your part in God’s plan for your life in the name of Jesus Christ!

Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your Saviour and Lord? If you haven’t, you can do so as you say this prayer: “Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me of my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. Deliver me from sin and satan to serve the Living God. Today, I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Thank You Jesus for saving me! Now I know I am born again!” For further reading, please get my books: The Blood Triumph, Miracle Meal and The Force Of Freedom.

  • ‘We need family-friendly public officials’

The founder of the Family Booster Ministry, Pastor Bisi Adewale, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to make enviable family life as one of the criteria for appointment of those that will work with him.

He spoke at the 4th Lagos singles and married conference at the Gymnasium hall, National Stadium, Lagos.

Adewale said Nigeria needs incorruptible ministers with good family values.

He argued that it was high time good family life became as essential consideration for public office holders.

He commended the family life of President Buhari, which he said is reflected in the piety of his life and children.

According to him: “The nation is not really corrupt but individual families are corrupt, which often times reflect in the life of our leaders in public and private sectors.”

He advised that the incoming ministers, irrespective of their portfolios, should be on probation for six months and their accounts audited periodically to foster transparency.

The marriage preacher attributed the upsurge in terrorism and militancy to dysfunctional families across the nation.

He stated that although the Joint Military Taskforce is winning the war against terrorism, it would be a long walk to freedom if the root cause of terrorism, which is traceable to destabilised homes, is not addressed.

“We are killing a lot of terrorists but we are not going to the root. The nation is conglomeration of families that are in it and when we see a strong church, community or nation, you have seen strong families.”

He also condemned the incessant cases of match making, which he said is wrong ungodly and   dangerous

  • Breaking barriers through the power in his book!

The Bible is God’s most authentic dream Book for man waiting to be discovered. We also understand that the Bible is full of dream seeds. Remember, from the “parable of the sower” in scriptures, the seed is the Word of God. If the Word of God is a carrier of God’s plan and purpose for our lives and God’s Words are seeds, then the Bible contains God’s dream seeds for our lives (Luke 8:11; Isaiah 29:11-12).

However, just like the natural seed does not bear fruits except it is cultivated, our dream seeds wouldn’t become realities until they are cultivated. For instance, if you have a bottle filled with mustard seeds and you do not plant, cultivate or nurture it, it will become a waste because it cannot grow. Likewise, every dream seed from the Word remains eternally valid when cultivated. This is because every purpose contained in the Word, is sealed with an oath of affirmation from God. As it is written: The Lord of hosts hath sworn, saying, surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand. (Isaiah 14:24, Matthew 24:35; 1 Kings 8:15, 56; Joshua 21:45; Isaiah 55:10-11).

This means that the dream seeds from the Bible are real, but they wouldn’t bring forth proofs until we take responsibility for their actualization. Moreover, accessing God’s plan is one thing, nurturing it is another. Therefore, until God’s dream seeds for our lives are cultivated and nurtured, the proofs will remain a day dream.

But, What is a Covenant Dream?

A covenant dream is not a desire, but a discovery of one’s future, gleaned from scriptures. It is not an ambition, but a vision borne out of a revelation from scriptures. Also, it is not a goal that we set, but a future we discover as gleaned from scriptures. Furthermore, it is not just a mental picture of the future, but a picture of the future gleaned from the scriptures.

For instance, God speaking to Abraham the dreamer, said: …Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward: For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever (Genesis 13:14-15).

We must understand that every Word-borne dream engenders a glorious future and usually provokes dramatic transformation. This is because no one ever arrives at a glorious future he cannot see. God asked Jeremiah, “What seest thou?” Jeremiah said, “I see a rod of an almond tree,” and God replied: “Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten My Word to perform it.” This means that what we cannot see, we cannot dare and what we cannot dare, God cannot deliver. Therefore, all we can see from the Bible, as it pertains to us, is all we can get (2 Corinthians 3:18, Jeremiah 1:11-12; 1 Samuel 17:37-57).

What are the Proofs of Authentic Dreams?

    • Every authentic dream confers Joy Unspeakable: When we encounter God’s dream for our lives, it stimulates joy unspeakable (Hebrew 12:1-2; Genesis 39: 1-5, 21).
    • It confers Peace: Every of God’s plan is accompanied by divine peace (Psalm 85: 8).
    • Tireless pursuit: Every authentic dream injects us with grace for tireless pursuit (Philippians 3:12-14; 1Corinthians 9:16-17; 2Timothy 4:6-7; Genesis 40:14)
    • Unstoppable declaration: We can see it and not declare it, the prevailing circumstances notwithstanding (Genesis 37:1-19; Acts 4:20).
    • Sustainable focus (Genesis 39:9; Genesis 42:18; Acts 20:24; Romans 8:35-38; 1Corinthians 15:58).
    • Every authentic dream is highly protected by the dreamer (Philippians 1:21; Philippians 3:7-14).

Having established that God’s plan for our lives is in the Bible, we must understand that the Bible is sealed and only accessible to the redeemed; for unto the redeemed it is given to know the mysteries of the Kingdom of God. But to unbelievers, no matter how learned they are; they cannot access it. Also, we must understand from scripture that it’s one thing to be saved; it’s another thing to be committed to discovering and pursuing God’s plan and purpose for our lives, from His Book (Isaiah 29:11-12).

It is also important for us to note that every picture that we discover and believe of ourselves from the dream Book called the Bible is deliverable, realizable, and actualizable, if we meet all the requirements stated therein (Isaiah 14:24; Malachi 4:2; Acts 20:32; Deuteronomy 28:1-14; Joshua 1:8).

What, then, are our pictures from the dream Book?

Every child of God is a child of destiny: Redemption guarantees us a glorious destiny. Therefore, shame and reproach is not part of God’s plan and purpose for our lives (Romans 8:29-30; Ephesians 1:5; 2 Peter 1:3).

Every child of God is ordained the salt of the earth and the light of the world: Salt is an essential commodity of universal and global relevance. Therefore, we are redeemed sorted after and ordained to be positive influences in terms of preservation, restoration and taste. As lights of the world, we are also ordained to lead and be the envy of our world (Matthew 5:13-14).

Are you born again? If you are not, you can do so as you say this prayer: “Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me of my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. Deliver me from sin and satan to serve the Living God. Today, I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Thank You Jesus for saving me!
