    Tambuwal declared winner in Sokoto

    Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has been declared the winner of the Saturday Sokoto State governorship election in Sokoto state.

    Being the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), he defeated his main rival of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senator Abdalla Wali in the contest.

    The result collation of the Saturday election commenced at 7.07 am in the auditorium of the Sultan Muhammadu Maccido Institute for Koranic and General Studies, Sokoto.

    The Returning Officer, Prof Abdul Bagudu, who is also the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) of the Usman Danfodio University, presided over the exercise.

    Announcing the results, he noted that The Nigerian Police Force, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) , and  Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC) witnessed the collation and announcement of the result.

    Besides, personnel of the different security agencies Condon vehicles and unauthorized persons from the collation centre throughout the duration of the collation that was as peaceful as the election in most of the polling units.

    Agbaje calls Ambode, concedes defeat

    The Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate in Lagos, Jimi Agbaje, has called the All Progress Congress candidate, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, to congratulate him on his victory at the Lagos governorship election.

    He called Ambode at 6.50pm, prayed for him and said he was looking forward to a more prosperous Lagos.

    At the time of this report, the final announcement was still being awaited.

  • Bayelsa Dep Speaker loses seat to APC

    Deputy Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Victor Ateki, has lost his Brass Constituency 1 seat to the candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Mr. Sunny Igoli.

    Igoli, erstwhile aide to former Governor Timipre Sylva, won the House of Assembly election by landslide.

    He was said to have scored 4,328 votes to defeat Ateki, a candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 2766.

    With results of all the 20 local government areas in Lagos announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, the All Progressive Congress candidate in the state, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, is set to be declared winner of the election having maintained a clear lead in the results announced by the commission.

    El-Rufai declared Kaduna Governor-elect

    All Progressives Congress (APC)’s Mallam Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai has been declared winner of Saturday’s gubernatorial election in Kaduna State.

    He polled 1,117,635 votes to defeat the incumbent Governor Ramalan Yero of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who scored a total of 485,833 votes in the 23 local government areas of the state.

    APC won in 17 local government areas, while PDP won in six local government areas.

    However, the Returning Officer in charge of Kaduna State, Prof. Ja’afaru Makau Kaura, declared El-Rufai as Governor-elect having met the 25 per cent requirement in 2/3 of the 23 local government areas and scored the highest number of the total vote cast.

    APC leads Adamawa guber poll

    The All Progressive Congress, APC, candidate in Adamawa state gubernatorial election, Senator Jibrilla Bindow is taking the lead in the election held on Saturday.

    Out of the 17 local government councils so far released officially by INEC, the APC has polled a total of 280,160 votes compared to its closest rival, the Social Democratic Party, SDP, which has scored a total of 162,072.

    The local government won by the APC are, Yola North, Yola South, Jada, Mubi South, Shelleng, Mayo -Belwa, Gombi, Girei, Song, and Maiha.

    The SDP candidate, Makus Gundiri, has won in Madagali, Michika, Lamurde, Hong, Numan, Demsa and Guyuk.

    Results of the gubernatorial elections are still being awaited from three local government councils of the state.

    The Peoples Democratic party candidate, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu came far behind in the third position, polling a total of  74957 votes, while Dr Ahmed Modibbo of the Peoples Democratic Movement is trailing behind with 7220 votes.

  • PDP wins 25 Assembly seats in Ekiti

    The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has continued its winning streak in the Ekiti State House of Assembly election conducted on Saturday, winning 25 out of 26 seats declared so far.

    The only result still being awaited was that of Ilejemeje Constituency which was still being collated at press time.

    The implication of the result is that no present member of the current Assembly-either on the PDP side or the All Progressives Congress (APC)-will return to the legislative chamber when the fifth Assembly is inaugurated in June.

    The result hands control of the state parliament to the PDP which is expected to enjoy overwhelming majority when a new Assembly is proclaimed into existence.

    A statement issued on Sunday, conveying the results which was signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state, Taiwo Gbadegesin, revealed that the Ilejemeje Constituency result will be released as soon as the agency is through with the collation.

    According to the result endorsed by INEC, PDP won in Ado Constituency 1 with 10,065 to beat APC, 3,819 and Labour Party 1,110.

    At Ado 2 constituency, the PDP polled 11,770 compared to APC’s 4,660 and LP’s 301.

  • Ajimobi declared winner in Oyo

    Ajimobi declared winner in Oyo

    Mr. Abiola Ajimobi has been declared winner of Saturday’s governorship election in Oyo State.

    Ajimobi, the incumbent governor defeated the Accord Party candidate, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, the Labour Party flag bearer, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala and two others to retain his seat at the state Government House in Agodi.

    Ajimobi polled 327,310 votes, while former Governor Ladoja recorded 254,520.

    Alao-Akala, another former governor of the state, scored  184,111 votes.
